P4 recognised as p4wifi - Galaxy Tab 10.1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Ok I had a few problems to get CM on my tab so I tried many ways to install it. At the end I managed to install it but now my tab is recognised as p4wifi and not as it should just p4. Rom manager wants to install p4wifi updates and CWM will always give me error 7 if i want to install a p4 ROM. Can anybody help me to get my tab to work right? THX

Technically the model code "P4" is a designation for all Galaxy Tab 10.1's, and if yours is the WiFi only model, then yours is the "P4WIFI"

It's a 7500, a p4 and I have a sim in it.
Basicly it wants to be a wifi only

Then depending on your carrier, it would either be a P4TMO or a P4VZW.

It's not T-Mobile P4TMO nor a Verizon P4VZW.
Just a straight P4 GT-7500 that wants to be a GT-7510.
I'd like to know how to fix it

Did you perhaps install the wrong flavour of cwm? Lots of people are having problems installing roms due to assert errors, thinking the fix is to remove the asserts. Instead, they just need to put the right version of cwm on

Right, I keep having the same problem over and over again, which seems to be caused by Rom Manager (for which I have paid the premium version). It keeps downloading/flashing "p4wifi" variants of CWM and/or downloaded ROMs such as cyanogenmod nightlies.
I don't quite understand why. Every time, I have to go back to Odin3, reflash a proper p4 version of CWM and a manually downloaded p4 variant of whatever ROM I want to install, Rom Manager just gets it wrong

restock via odin with a P7500 firmware then root/get latest cwm from pershoot for p7500 5.5.0.4 get the "P4" rom from cyanogenmod Site and flash it...

[Q] HELP! installed wrong ROM

Hi Guys
I hope someone can helpout.
I followed a complete guide to install the latest cyanogenmod nightly ICS on my tab. however for some (stupid) reason I accidentally downloaded and installed a ROM for the Galaxy tab 10.1 wifi and not the Galaxy tab 10.1 3G.
The result is that I can't use 3G and the tab won't let me install any other ROM version (tried different Cyanogenmod versions and the Kang ones).
I'm getting the following message:
assert failed: getprop("ro.product.device") == "p4" ll getprop("ro.build.product") == "p4"
E: error in /sdcard/cm-9-20120904-NIGHTLY-p4.zip
(Status 7)
Installation aborted
Does anyone know what I can do to get my 3G capability back
Thanks a lot in advance
You need to completely wipe (/system, /data/factory reset) and then install the correct 7500 (3G) ROM for your device. If that still doesn't work, you may be faced with using Odin to flash the stock firmware for your particular model.

I second that, although I "personally" would go the Odin route and start fresh anyway, but again thats just me, as I'm a bit funny with things like that, knowing I've started completely fresh would help with trouble shooting any further problems that may occur as a result of the mix up.

Thanks so far guys.
I tried installing the stock firmware and ended up in a reboot-loop. I recovered the tab by following a thread on this forum and is now running Android version 3.0.1 ......However, the tab still thinks it's a wifi version (GT-P7510) with no 3G capabilities.
What am I doing wrong?
Thanks again.
I wonder if this could just be a build.prop somehow hanging around from the wrong rom or something. When you installed the stock firmware did you do a factory reset by chance? If not that could potentially be why...
Although factory reset on the stock kernel is a scary thing to do these days. Read up on the eMMC brick bug before proceeding.
So i managed to get the tab working on a 3.2 rom.
Bit i still don't get why i can't get the ics cyanogenmod Rom installed.
Please forgive the noob question but could it be that my kernel is too old?
Thanks again

It could be something to do with the version of recovery you're using, I'll see if I can find the link to the correct one for you.

Just to clarify you were able to successfully root your device and now have root access? What custom recovery are you using when you try and install the ROM's? Usually a status 7 error indicates a bad download or that your are trying to flash a ROM that is not meant for your device. If you can provide me with some more information I'll be happy to help you out best I can.

I haven't installed any custom recovery
I think I have solved the problem, it looks like I can't use ROM's for Samsung Galaxy S to my Samsung Galaxy S plus
I have now installed CM10.1 M2 custom for I9001, is there a newer version?

The latest unofficial version of Cyanogenmod for your device is CM 10.2 based on Android 4.3 which can be downloaded from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2395406. I would also recommend installing a custom recovery for your device so you can easily backup and restore your device when installing ROMs and other modifications, a list of custom recoveries for the Galaxy S Plus can be found here http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/Samsung_Galaxy_S_Plus/GT-I9001#Recoveries. Additionally remember to keep in mind never flash anything on your device that's not specifically meant for your device.

Did you have your contacts synced to your Google account? If they were synced to your Google account you can navigate to https://www.google.com/contacts and all your contacts will be preserved and you can then sign into your Google account on your phone and all your contacts will be restored. All did you make a backup of your current ROM before flashing CM10.1? What you can also do is use Kies export feature and export your contacts to a file that you can then transfer to your device and import in Android's built in contact app.

Every ROM I tried had the same problem. Cyanogenmod stable and nightly and a couple of others. Anyway, I got around the problem by flashing CWM with Heimdall. Now everyhing works fine.

[Q] GT-P7500 but no sim slot?

I just rooted and flashed my old GT 10.1 with the nameless ROM and it's working great -- thanks so much to kaspar_h for his excellent compile and guide. First time I'd ever done anything unofficial to an Android device and I had zero bumps. It's nice to be on a non-Heartbleed version of Android now!
The interesting thing with my tablet: it reports model number GT-P7500, which afaik is the 3G model number, but there's no SIM slot on the device. Anyone know what's up with this? I remember buying it at Best Buy, I definitely did not buy the 3G version, it came in a Wifi box.
I installed the non-wifi P4 ROM and it's working fine. The only weirdness I'm seeing from this is an always-empty connection strength wedge in my notification bar, which isn't a big deal. I'm just curious.
This means you have the p4wifi but installed the p4 ROM, which is why it shows as GT-P7500.

The p4wifi ROM actually wouldn't install on my tablet -- when I tried to install it, it directed me to the p4 ROM.

Yup, you're right.
So the recovery actually sets the model number on the tablet? Wow, I didn't anticipate it would work that way, I figured the model number would be on the device in some permanent storage.
Thanks for explaining that to me.

Not really, its because since you flash a p4 recovery, it will only flash a p4 ROM because of the assert line that checks what device you have in the updater-script of the ROM to prevent any problems. Once you delete that line, then you can flash the p4wifi ROM.

Need help to install TWRP 3.1.0.0 and Lineageos 14

Hello,
I have an old i9100 (international) with the original stock rom (android 4.1.2 Jellybean) and I want to upgrade to Lineage os 14.
First I tried to install twrp using heimdall, but the recovery mode is still using the stock one. Searching in the forum, I saw that first I need to change the kernel to one "isorec compatible" and I'm stuck in this step. I have never changed the kernel of an smartphone before, I don't know how can I do this and what kernel I can use to successfully install twrp.
I know there's a lot of links teaching how to do this, but this is one of my problems. Most of then have dead/missing links to download, or they presume I've already flash something to continue.
So I would like do ask if someone can show me a simple way to make my phone isorec compatible, so I can install twrp a lineageos?
Thank you!
