My wife accidently hit update when she was trying to respond to a text and now it is starting to update albeit over slow 3g so I doubt it will take. Any way to cancel it? She turned off her internet but I am pretty sure it will start up again correct?
Thanks in advance
It's just downloading the update. She doesn't have to actually install it though.

Settings, software updates, htc software updates. Uncheck the option to automatically check for updates.
Thanks everybody. She told me after I posted that it asked her if she wanted to install. She followed the instructions to uncheck but it is still in the status bar. Any ideas? Reboot?

I had it appear on my phone as well. There should be a running process called Updater that you can force stop. Once you do that, the notification disappeared for me and I unchecked the box to automatically look for updates. So far, so good.

Hi dear atrix users. Can someone help me with turning off the updater. The case is followig:
I've tried to make system update in phone setting, and i had notofication that "download will start when connected to a wifi", i have a wifi issue that's common for unlocked phones and it does not work. Now i want to discard updating process and take off that notification on the top. I've already updated my system through official "Motorola software update program" using my laptop connected to atrix. I've "force closed" and "cleared data" for "Updater" in application manager, and the notification disapears and after some time pops up again. Does somebody know how to swich it off? Thanks in advance.
(Maybe) check /cache for anything that would have to do with the update...?

Rename it with Root Explorer.
So I ran across this article today about improving voice quality http://androidforums.com/htc-evo-3d...r-vocoder-settings-improve-voice-quality.html
After trying this method when I rebooted phone, low and behold my missing phone icon was back on the lockscreen! What the heck? Figured I'd better let everyone know my findings!
Any idea why the phone icon disappeared? I got the same prob and I searched for like half an hour thru the phone

If you did the update you will lose your phone icon. You need to go into HTC updates as there is another update available in there if you hav not done that one. It will give you your phone icon back after you update and soft reset your device.
I had to keep checking for the update before it actually showed available.
ota
I did the OTA update and still had phone icon
I did a hard reset and while the phone icon returns, as soon as you cange the lock screen icons, it's gone again. You will have to download the update mentioned previously.

Make sure to go into settings, software updates and check the HTC one. If it doesn't come up, keep checking throughout the day. That is what I had to do after I hard reset when device after taking the 1st update.
You will need the additional software update to get your phone icon back as that update does not stick on a hard reset. It will show up without it, but once you change it will not be available again like mentioned.
Strange... You may be right though my icon is back

Occasionally, since I rooted my Amaze, I see an icon in the notification area that looks like an upside-down teardrop with an exclamation point and the notification text says "Set current time - Tap here to change your settings."
Sometimes I've seen this after reboot, other times it happens completely randomly. The time is correct on the phone... Why does this notification come up?
Thanks in advance for any insight anyone can offer.

In settings Date & time there is an option to automatically get the time from the network, if this is ticked and you happen to lose your signal when it is checking you will get that error..

Thanks so much for the quick reply. So to your point about "if this is ticked and you happen to lose your signal when it is checking you will get that error.." - this has nothing to do with root? It's just a freak thing that happens occasionally?
I only ask so that I can understand more and try to learn more about my phone.
Thanks again.
It's not a root thing, just Sense looking for information and not being able to find it so gives an error.

Good to know. Guess I was just lucky enough to never notice it before I rooted, and now it happened twice so I guess I got concerned something was wrong. It could always be corrected manually each time, or - as was the case this morning - it eventually just went away!
Thanks again. Really appreciate the help.
Depending on what you flashed, it may have to do with your kernal or rom systematically turning off your connection to save battery and then if that runs you get the error. (my thoughts)
No. Nothing to do with root. My amaze is still a virgin, and I get this error once in a while as well.
As other poster mentioned, uncheck the set time with current internet or whatever it says it will stop.

The 4.3 update of my HTC One got 2.8MB downloaded and then stopped. I let it sit for a couple hours and it didn't change at all. I tried several things to "kick" it into motion, but nothing worked (turning on/off data, etc.).
In a desparate attempt to get it to continue, I restarted my phone (bad choice, I see). Now, when I touch "Check for updates" on the "AT&T software update" screen, it doesn't do anything. No dialogs -- nothing.
Is there a way I can clear out the partial download and reset the state of that process and trigger it to start again?
Thanks for any help!

Mine did the same thing. What I found is that it needs Wifi to complete the download. If you restart the phone and let it see Wifi, it should resume the download without any interaction from the user.
Try this
1. I disabled Power Saver Mode and all the options obviously
2. I turned off the option in the Settings --> Power --> Turned off the sleep mode where the data connection gets cut off during long periods of inactivity after the screen is off
3. Went to Settings --> Wifi --> Advanced and then turned on the option for best WiFi performance
4. Set the screen time out to 10 minutes, try to keep the screen from timing out just in case and dont use your phone while it is downloading
5. Powercycled my Router and Modem
6. Restarted the Phone and tried to update then!
GOODLUCK!

This was exactly the issue! I actually didn't need to restart the phone though. I just enabled WiFi and the download resumed.

A different twist for me...
I'm experiencing a similar issue, but with a twist...
After what looked like a successful DL of the OTA 4.3 OS Update on my AT&T HTC One, the actual update never kicked off.
Now when I touch "Check for updates" on the "AT&T software update" screen, it doesn't do anything. You can see the button move, but you get no response, No dialog, Nothing....
Is there a way I can kick off the DL'ed update file or clear out the [possibly corupted?] download and reset the state of that process and trigger it to start again?
The DL happened Thurs Oct 10th 9AM.. I had a similar type hiccup the last Maintenance Update that AT&T / HTC sent out, and waiting 24 hrs cured that... But, as of now, more than 24 hrs later, No Joy!!
Anyone out there have a fix??
Please Advise.

Sadly, that did not work for me...
I spoke with the AT&T Support folks and they have indicated that the only way to resolve this issue is to do a Factory Reset.... Ugghh!!
I'm backing up my phone now and seriously thinking of doing just that.. Can anyone talk me off that ledge??
Much Joy!!

So, being the patient kind of guy I am, I fought back the urge to do a Master Reset, as the good folks @ AT&T told me was the only way to remedy my issue, and instead slept on it....
Lo and behold, 48hrs after the initial failed DL / No Upgrade, I got the "Update available for my Device" pop-up... The DL was a bit faster, at the end the Upgrade kicked off as expected, and all is well...
Patience is one of the most important tools you can keep in your bag-o'-tricks... Good luck to all out there...
Ok, so I'm on at&t and I got the notice for the 4.2.2 update. I wanted to do a factory reset before the update, which I did, but now when I go into settings and check for updates it tells me there are no update available. I was wondering if anyone has any insight as to whats going on and how I go about getting the update now. What's even more frustrating is the 24hr wait time between update attempts. Is there any way around any of this. By the way I am stock and unrooted.
Also a secondary question is about the notification pulldown. I don't know if it's just coincidental to this factory reset, or something that I amazingly never noticed, but I can pull down the notification tray from the lockscreen. I can't believe I've never noticed this before. Is this supposed to behave this way? Is there a setting that I've missed that was reset? It's annoying cause it easily unlocks when I put the phone in my pocket. I can't believe it's supposed to work that way as it completely defeats the purpose of the lock screen.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Yeah, I had your exact same problem. I decided to follow the suggestion @grigoriisi provided and it worked. Step by step, this is how I pulled it off.
1- I reset the phone to stock settings, after which point I suffered your same problem. I checked for updates and it said my software was up to date.
2- I went to the Time/Date settings and changed the date by 1 full day. By this point, I checked again for updates and it found one and started downloading the small update.
3- After the phone rebooted, I checked again for update and it said my software was up to date.
4- I then moved further ahead in time by another full day. After this, I checked for update and it found the full update and began downloading it.
5- Afterwards everything went as expected. Once the phone was up and running (And fully updated) I reset the date to the correct one.
Note: Some networks (as in Office WiFi or not optimally configured home networks) may prevent the phone from reaching the update server in the first place. Check for the update using your LTE connectivity, and once it starts downloading switch to the WiFi.
the trick of checking for the update on LTE worked! Switched over to wifi after getting the notification and am updating. Thanks!
