Bye bye Razr forums
with special thanks to pedroterresfillo as he helped my several times to update and root this complicated phone
Iv bought the Samsung Galaxy S3 as not impressed with Motorola phones with the way motorola handles alot of things with regards to their phones
maybe in the future when they release the Razr HD Nexus quadcore if it has unocked bootloader I might be tempted back while i did love this phone i started to hate it for several reasons
If anyone wants to buy a unlocked sim free Razr boxed with all accessories in Uk as i will probably sell it now
Have fun with samcrap. I agree the razr is a bit of a pain but nothing I can't handle. I couldn't live with samsungs crappy build quality though. I hate plastic haha

Are you on Verizon? Because Verizon has come out and stated that the bootloader for the SG3 will NOT be unlocked, ever. The only way to get it unlocked is to switch carriers.
I know there was a news article a week or two ago about how someone talked with Verizon and asked about the unlocking of the SG3. Apparently, even though the person was told "yes, there will be an OTA to unlock the phone", the Verizon rep was talking about the SIMM card, not the bootloader.
Now, there is a developer edition to be released for Verizon that is to be released with an unlocked bootloader, but even Motorola did this with the RAZR Dev Edition, but when it was released overseas, it was still locked and apparently still is from what I understand.
So, if you are still with Big Red, you are in the same boat as you were with the RAZR. Verizon isn't allowing Samsung to unlock the bootloader for the SG3 on their network. However, Verizon has come out and said Samsung is the one not allowing the unlocking of the bootloader:
http://www.androidauthority.com/ver...3-locked-bootloader-developer-edition-100550/
So, who is telling the truth? I don't know...
"what? I said I have a new phone. A new phone. Yes. What do you mean I sound garble? I said: I don't sound garbled! I do? IT'S NOT BROKEN! What? I sold the other phone. I SAID: I SOLD THE OTHER PHONE! What? I can't get it back. What?"
...been there, done that...

Good Luck with your SGS3. I bought one on launch day and returned it yesterday. Heres my very quick pro/con list of it:
Pros:
- TouchWiz was surprisingly much better than I thought
- Screen was bigger; phone didn't feel too big for my hands.
- Camera was awesome and extremely fast (Almost kept it because of this reason alone.... i find the Razr's camera to be too slow)
- Easily rootable
- I'd compare the SGS3 to an android variant of the iPhone. Simple to use, with a lot of customization available (even without rooting)
- Availability of accessories locally as the phone is available on all the major carriers.
Cons:
- Battery life was horrendous. If you look on the SGS3 forums you'll see people going "OMG BATTERY AWESOME" and see that their Cell Standby is the top of their battery usage list. My phone sits on my desk at work untouched and my razr is usually at 80% when i leave.... the SGS3 was 30% or below.
- Build quality is horrible. VERY CHEAP PLASTIC. I had it in a case and still felt like I could break it in one fall. I've never once had my razr in any case...
- THE LED NOTIFICATION IS BROKEN FOR USA VERSIONS. I mean, it works.... but you cannot currently change the color of any notification. If you try to, the light stays on permanently.
- Signal strength seemed lower in more places compared to the Razr, and the SGS3 had trouble holding onto LTE in low coverage areas.
Sorry, not trying to jack this thread... honestly..... but keep the above in mind while you're in your return window.
im in UK with a simfree version of the phone which comes unlocked and im pretty sure the bootlloader is unlocked here, One of the reasons i moved from GS1 and GS2 to the Razr was the build quality of Sammy phones was quite plasticy and poor , but the S3 is better then previous models it has a partial metalic side which does inprove the build quality slightly and combined with a good chrome metal back cover i purchased on amazon its made quite a difference to the build quality feel, the pros is better and battery life was not as good as Razr , but we had a ICS update a recently which has made a big difference there will soon be a 2500mah or 3000mah battery which i will buy to further enhance this phone
Wifi does drain alot of battery for some reason which is a concern for now even with update but im sure a custom rom or update to Jellybean which is due in August Sept will fix a lot more issues
I will miss my razr as it is a great phone for several reasons but its all about personal choice

Well, isnt the Atrix the sister of Bionic? I heard from VZW that it was delay due to melting issue. Over heat in situation due to the dual core it uses.
Motorola phones are pointless if you care about aosp kernels etc
Also you are supporting the company that wants root community to die...screw them
I like the fascinate, I dont like samsung, the samsung charge looks a lot like the fascinate, with LTE, and front facing camera, I think is better than the thunderbolt, but again, what good is it to have an unencrypted bootloader if the source codes are not released by samsung, see how we have managed with the fascinate, just hunting for leaks, fortunately we have better releases from our devs than from samsung or verizon, and it is very true what Nitsuj17 wrote, we dont want to support a company that wants to control how you use your owned and purchased with your hard earned money phone, screw motorola.
in simple words, I think I am leaning towards samsung charge

Wasn't the source code for the Charge released already? And I've been hearing HTC is slowly following Moto's footsteps in locking their bootloaders.

Correct and correct. Cyanogen (of all people) has actually picked LG over HTC for his next phone because of this.
I have been with samsung since my first cellphone back in 2004, I will be getting the charge when the price drops.
I think all of them will eventually lock bootloader. Either that or suck.**** on release like samsung. Tbolt looks promising, so is charger.

Same here. I think I'm addicted to the AMOLED screens (cause it sure isn't TouchWiz, using SPB Mobile Shell on the Omnias and LauncherPro on the Fascinate).
The Charge is the new 'big brother' to the Fascinate. The same guts more or less (nothing has changed profoundly), but the 4.3" SuperAMOLED+ Screen vs the 4" SuperAMOLED screen is sexy. Then you sprinkle a little 4G in there and some new cameras, and bam, you have the Charge.

With the OTA 2.2 update tho I'm pretty damn happy with my Fascinate once again. I really think it'd take a screamin' dual core 4G phone to make me really want to jump to a new on.
Yeah I think a dual core would make me more likely to upgrade even sooner.
The charge originally was supposed to be a dual core, but alas it was not to be.
$300 is steep, but if you think about it, its the exact same price as a 32gb iphone.
Think how much better a charge will be than an iphone:
almost 1 inch larger next gen screen.
lte
not stuck on inferior os
etc etc
If you think about it that way, the price seems much more palatable.
I just hope they make the physical buttons better than the DX. Those were flimsy.
That is steep. All of my last four phones were all under 250. Charge has less ram than tbolt. So what warrant the price?

There wasn't a thread on this new device, so I figured I'd start one.
I've always strayed away from Moto devices and have been eagerly waiting for the Vigor and Nexus Prime. That said, the DROID RAZR looks like a worthy competitor.
With competitive specs, a nice big screen and a 7.1mm thickness, it seems like an amazing device. I'd like to hear everyone's thoughts...
I will still wait for the Prime and Vigor, but this device is looking so damn good right now with my available upgrade. Pre-order starts the 27th, but it probably wont drop until early November. We'll see on the Prime dates tonight and hopefully learn of concrete Vigor dates soon.

I think it's by far the best Moto device. I still like the Rezound because of the 1.5Ghz processor and Beats, and I do like Sense. From time to time, I take a break from Sense to try the new CM or MIUI, but always end up coming back. Also, the Rezound and GNexus will come out on November 11th according to a Verizon roadmap. We'll get a confirmation on the GNex tonight.
Moto RAZR + Locked Bootloader = No Thank you
In all seriousness, this is probably the first Moto device that I would consider purchasing if it wasn't locked down. The specs are pretty nice and it's pretty thin...just like I prefer my ladies.
I also noticed on Droid Life the Razr went thru FCC with both LTE & GSM radios. That's pretty nice.

Completely agree... it is a great looking phone, but that cannot overcome the locked bootloader.
kuddos to motorola for making some nice improvements after the bionic fiasco.
I can't personally stand the look of it. I've never really liked Moto's design though. And that horrid UI thrown on top of it just doesn't do it for me. And no ICS as of right now? Locked bootloader? Pass, pass, pass...
Am I the only one who just now realized it's gonna be an amazing week for Verizon?

Looks pretty awesome, but I cannot and will not buy a phone with a locked bootloader. If I was interested in being locked down, I would buy the 4S in a heartbeat. The other reason I can't justify the Razr is because of the qHD display while still costing as much as the Rezound and Prime.
According to one leak they are all out on the 10th of November. Can't wait to see them in person, I really think I am leaning towards the RAZR. In the back of my head I think about ICS and larger screen, but the smaller better looking RAZR has me interested. Hopefully the bootloader will be figured out soon enough.

Nope. On Endgadget and Co, most comments say that Motorolala's bootloaders are hardly "perfectly safe". I love that phone too, but I will have to pass, cause we will never see any custom rom on it.
but it's so beautifull...
I'm like a moth and a candle... hahaha
Looks like the RAZR will be getting ICS sometime after launch. Kind of makes the decision tougher, although after last night's event I'm in love with the Nexus. I just pray the LTE version isn't much thicker.

I know it's easy to jump to conclusions, but just because it has a locked bootloader doesn't mean it will always be that way. Look what HTC did, didn't motorola promise to start unlocking them? Battery is swapable, but maybe it will be still be replaceable with some disassembly. The only thing that can't possible improve is NFC. I really was looking forward to this, why did motorola leave this out?
Went from a rooted HTC 3D running at 1.836 fast as hell and hacked to death; to the HTC Resound? No root; no s-off. I remove apk’s; change my htc_bootanimation/htc_downanimation; keyboard layout; etc…I reboot and presto - my changes have gone into the bit bucket.
I am thinking of switching a different phone. I am a Go Go Gadgets kind of guy; 12 cell phones and 2 tablets in the past 2.5 year. How about I try the Motorola razr droid? Or should I wait? I want it and I want it now LOL.
I understand how u feel cuz I'm like that to but I think with these awesome devs we will get s-off soon. So I think you made the right choice but its your decision not ours.

I would keep it, this device has way to much potential. I also love my devices and have to have the newest and latest. Im going back and fourth between this and my tbolt(thanks to simply swapping Sims) my bolt is rooted and all jacked up but does not come close to this stock beast! I don't even think the gnex is gonna be as badass as this device when we get S-OFF. Sure it has ICS out if the box but we will get it too thanks to our Devs and still have the option to run whatever crazy Sense builds they come up with. Hope my opinion helped.

thanks -- I like Verizon and like you was with Sprint for over 10 years. the 4G is a hell of a lot faster.
This is my first smartphone so my opinion may not carry as much weight as the others, but I researched for about 8 months to decide what phone to buy knowing that I will probably keep the same one for about 3-4 years. I went from the Incredible to the tbolt, evo3d, sgs2, looked at bionic, glimpsed at razr, it came down to either galaxy nexus or this and picked this one, mostly because of the screen and removable SD card and heard the camera was great. I also liked the way Sense looked.
I am loving it, but like I said, first smartphone so any of the above would have been fantastic. But the screen is amazing! The other phones' screens can't compare.
Removable SD card is a big plus, someone posted they successfully added a 64gb card so that is pretty sweet.
Have you gone to the Razr forums to see how people like it and if there are issues with it? If not, I would do that before you change your mind about this beauty.

I would rather have the international version even though I'm not a big fan of the button layout on it. One thing to consider is the higher resale value of it.
Well if I would of had to pay full retail for my i777, I would have an i9100 instead. I would rather have the i9100 myself, however, for paying $ 199.99 for my i777 coming from a broken captivate, it was nice to at least get a sgs2 with out having to pay $ 600 for.
HTH,

International. . . I'd love to have a button
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I777 using Tapatalk
International (even though i do not like the button) because it gets better dev support (ICS for example). ICS is easier to develop for the i9100 because it gets updated more and source code related things, etc. Sound will be a ***** for our phone because of a couple things being changed. (this is what I'm getting from all of these posts feel free to correct me if I am horribly wrong)
If I had the money, I would have gone with the International S2. ^^ I like the design of International Version better, but for convenience's sake I got the AT&T version.
Yep same here. Seems we all think the same thing

I prefer the att version, I hate that button.
I wish they made an android with slide up keyboard. Or even a Nokia n95 dual slide. Some kind of non generic design
I prefer to have a button for contextual search. And as annoying as it is, I'd trade the loss of FM radio for NFC support.
Primary downside is fewer ROM/Kernel choices. Primary upside is my phone only cost $200.
At&t button looks cheap and iphoneish

I love my ATT version very much, but I think I like the feel of the International version a bit more. It's nice to have a physical button, as well as the greater dev support.
I had bell galaxy s2 (international) but it got stolen so I bought an unlocked AT&T one because it's almost $200 chb~eaper. I am very unimpressed, the international version has more dev support, the i9100 is noticbly thiner by like 2 mm even more important with a phone this big. I used the fm radio humders times more then i will probably use nfc. EVEN THE CUSTOM ROMS HAVE ATT&T CRAPWARE BURRIED DEEP IN THE INSIDES OF THE OS THE the bell version has stock samasung + only a few user removable apks. And if you want to enable anything taken out by the carrier all you have to do is delete a file.
The $200 is save is worth all the minor annoynces but i wouldnt do it again

2 mm is noticeable?
I have thought about buying the international version and then selling the phone I have now to recoup the difference.
Ill probably just keep this though. I got most of the bloat off the phone.

I think I might try to get one instead of the AT&T phone, if I can anyway...

Yup works fine.
I have both. (I damaged my international version and got an ATT version to replace it.)
My observations:
- i really like the home button on the international, (but hated the way the home button was hardcoded to the old version of Vlingo). I like to way removed the double tap for Vlingo on the ATT version.
- I get somewhat better voice quality with the ATT version. (the voice quality on the international may have gotten worse after installed a custom kernal, I'm not sure. But ATT version has less static incoming and clearer louder sound outgoing.
- The ATT version has somewhat better data speed (may be due to new sim card I got with ATT version).
Well I think I might have to keep my eyes out for an Intl version =P
I'll probably be very passive about it, just cause its so nice here!
Also, lol @ no love for sprint version

2mm would be noticeable... EXCEPT the difference isn't 2mm. The i9100 is 8.5mm thick whereas the i777 8.9mm. Is 0.5mm noticeable? Highly doubtful.
Another thing that the i9100 doesn't have is the NFC feature. The ICS is supposed to bring a bunch of NFC-enabled apps, and that would be a value-add for the i777.

What is it exactly that I am supposed to be angry about?

Saw the Ostrich on my MOTODEV post
Made this
What's your point? I'll be angry when Moto don't unlock bootloader on ICS release. Coz Motorola declared it. We'll see.

You will not get the unlock with ICS. You want an unlocked bootloader then buy the Developer edition.

This is a FAQ on MOTODEV's site:
"Why has Motorola chosen to make a separate unlockable edition of the Motorola RAZR™?
The creation of a developer edition in Europe was the most efficient way to deliver an unlockable device."
Efficient or profitable???
Can they not send an OTA to unlock our devices? <Seriously, I don't know if this is possible.

Efficient equals to profitable when all you see is money
And yes. They *could* unlock the bootloader with an OTA *if they wanted to*.

Yes the DROID razr is really fast its great. Its also built very well. I'd definitely get one. Its a very thin phone too with a great camera. I'd buy the razr maxx if you want the bigger battery though.

Moto don't worry about people who spend 500€ for buy the first Razr, and don't want to re buy the SAME phone for an other 500€...
he just want to make money...
