[Q] Anyone Update UBLF2 / Brazil / TTT CSC? - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Anyone on the stock UBLF2 update theirs to I9300UBBLG2 or I9300UBBLG5 yet?
Issues, stability?
Thanks,
-CC

CSC will not have anything to do with stability its only local area network settings . It is not the firmware .

Yeap, I understand that, just wanted to be specific as to which version.
As it seems most of South America and the Caribbean region uses this "version" with some areas having additional updates and others not.
I ask because this seems to be the version that comes on international phones that can be acquired in the US/North America.
I know I can flash any region/area, but then it breaks the ability to update using Kies.
SIDENOTE: I took the Kies update I9300UBBLG2 and it has improved signal and battery life, not that my phone needed it really. But it's an observation, ofc that's very dependent to each users' service/area anyways. I am in Miami, FL USA on AT&T MVNO.

[Q] Only getting Edge Network

Hey Everyone,
I just picked up an unlocked/unbranded GTI-9100 and am only picking up the Edge network for T-Mobile USA. Is there a certain Modem or Kernel I need? The 9100 is on 2.3.3, so I guess I should root it and flash upgraded ROM/Kernel package? I am fimilar with ODIN as I have a Vibrant and a T-Mobile GS2.
Thanks in advance for your help.
I think you should double check your network settings and APNs
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA App

With the GT-I9100, you'll ONLY ever get Edge on T-Mobile USA. Doesn't matter what you flash. The phone simply doesn't have the hardware to receive 1700mhz UMTS, which is one of two necessary bands (the other being 2100mhz UMTS) for 3g/4g on T-Mobile USA's network.
The GT-I9100 will only ever get HSPA/HSPA+ on AT&T's network in the US. I'm sure of this - I have an I9100, and am on AT&T.
Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.

Nope. Not short of getting an AT&T account just for that phone, anyway.
...
(sorry, here comes some snark)
Unless you're comfortable cracking open the phone, ripping out the antenna, replacing it with one that will receive 1700/2100 mhz UMTS, decompiling the OS, tweaking it to recognize the new frequencies, and recompiling.

Thanks... Looks like I can sell it for GOOD money to AT&T people for a good profit. I traded my wifes MyTouch 4G for it , so I am still in the good.

You can either get a USB jig or flash a stock kernel back. Try a search. This has been asked a CRAPTON of times.

Just found this forum... have the exact same issue. I have the GT-I9100 Intl version from Australia and now in the USA for a couple of weeks using T Mobile.
The dude behind the counter asked if my phone was unlocked, which it is. I told him that it supports Quad Band UMTS 850, 900, 1800 and 2100mhz and he said I'd get full HSPA+ reception on the 2100mhz band...
Sure enough, it's only Edge. I THINK there might be a setting in the Device Config (on keypad * # * # 197328640 # * # *) and possibly change something to use the US 2100mhz or something like that...
I can live with using Edge, but just interesting whether it's just a config setting that needs to be changed in the handset itself to pickup a different connection type for US 2100mhz bands?

I9100 only gets Edge on T-mobile USA because it doesn't receive 1700 WCDMA. If you want 3g/"4g" you'll have to go to ATT or another carrier that uses the same frequencies...
T-mobile USA uses AWS for high speed mobile internet, which REQUIRES BOTH 1700 & 2100mhz WCDMA. One is used for uplink, the other for downlink. Only receiving one of them won't work, which is why you're only getting Edge.
Dude behind the counter is wrong and doesn't seem to know how AWS works.
EDIT: BTW, UMTS and WCDMA are somewhat interchangeable in this instance.

[Q] Modem Flashing

Hi there everyone,
I have a unbranded Aussie GT-I9100 that i bought in cambodia and use it alot here. But when i go back to the USA for a visit i plan on doing some travelling around and want to know if flashing a USA modem pack would allow me better to access more of the GSM networks in the US? I know several networks run on either 1700mhz or 1900mhz for 3G/HSPA+ and this phones modem is not setup to allow access to those frequencies for 3G/HSPA+ . Or is that just how the hardware is setup?
Thanks for the help
Shawn
The phone won't be able to use frequencies the hardware doesn't support full stop. No flashing of modems will change that. Choose a carrier over there that you know uses the frequencies the phone hardware uses (or you might be left with using 2G or even have no connectivity). The I9100 was never sold by carriers in the US (there are no specific US stock roms & bundled modems that you know will work), so you might end up having to experiment if you get poor connectivity with the modem you're currently running. Might want to download as many modems as you can get your hands on before you go & take them with you.
But best advice is as above, choose a carrier that uses the same freqs as the phone to avoid teeth gnashing.

What if i choosed the wrong ROM country?

I am having a problem with 3G network for along time even though we have 3G coverage in my place
i installed lolipop 5.0.1 and it worked perfectly but the 3g problem still
im in north africa but my phone manufactured in brazil ,under the battery it's written ANATEL and a number of 10 digits following it Do you think this phone works only in brazil and only under Alcatel. network ?
now an idea comes into my mind is to install a brazil region ROM with a brazilian carrier , but some told me ROMs are all the same and it won't resolve your problem
Do you think this phone works only in brazil and only under Alcatel. network ?
Dear experts please advice me in my case .....Thank you in advance
Each phone is set to use different bands. So unless the band's match up you will have issues.
but i do not have that carrier in my country here
It's not the carrier. It's the band's that are programmed into the device itself. This is something you have to be very careful about when getting devices from other carriers and countries as they don't all use the same bands.
I would look your phone up and see what bands it supports and then check what bands tour carrier uses. It's most likely they don't use the same ones so you will never see 3g.
so how do i check the programmed band on my phone?
By checking the device under the carrier that it was made for.

Modem,Radio,Baseband. Carrier tuned? Firmware

I live in Australia and I know there's carrier firmware for Optus, Telstra, Vodaphone, and just XSA for Australia I would like to know if Optus, Telstra, Vodaphone specifically tune there modem files they provide in there firmware, so using Optus firmware with Optus sim card provides a better reception, battery life network speeds, then say using XSA with a modem that's for all Australia and no specific network intended.
I've also read someone suggesting sometimes carriers don't update there modem files they just stick with one that they found to work throughout a phones lifetime, uncertain how true untrue this statement was.
Thanks.

SM-965U Changing Region / Country - Modem Change?

Hi,
I have the unlocked SM-965U unlocked model that I've been using on Verizon in the US. I'm moving to the Netherlands and am wondering about modem / frequency compatibility.
Looking at the frequencies used by Verizon in the US and Vodafone in the Netherlands none of the 4G frequencies are the same, although the phone is theoretically compatible with all the frequencies of both carriers.
Will I get better reception if I can find the appropriate modem to flash using Odin?
Sorry if this is a dumb question but I've looked through the forum and can't find a straight answer.
Thanks!
