Finally pulled the trigger on the 3D, and I have been reading quite a bit on it. I wanted to know from you lucky folks having had some time with it already, what is your favorite part about the phone? What features caught you off guard, overall impression of the phone? Looks like some people are getting stellar battery life, and coming from the Evo OG, I have high expectations. (Running Synergy on the OG now, and I am digging Sense 3.0!)
Applications that REALLY belong on the Evo, and anything I should REALLY avoid.
I have been looking at the rooting community pretty closely, and it sounds like there is a wee bit o hate and discontent, but I'm sure it will settle down if and when the goodness happens with permanent root.
Thanks guys!
ALSO - What applications have you found to be PERFECT on this phone? I just snagged up a Nook Color just to flash MIUI on it, so I do have my flashing solution in the meantime...
Congrats man! You'll enjoy it, sounds like you've been keeping up on the threads so you know kinda what to expect. 3D is awesome, and I'm an old guy compared to most on here, and it amazes me. Hell, I even purchased Spider-Man and I am not a gamer, but it's a good one I think with some nice depth...really fun. My suggestion is to try to not look for faults in the device, just enjoy it as it is a huge upgrade to the OG and hopefully very soon we'll be some ROM flashing fools! As you can probably tell people are getting pretty edgy and a lot of wars going on here, too much time on our hands, so hopefully real soon lol! So welcome aboard, you're gonna love it!
A breath of fresh air Welcome aboard! Great phone, you will enjoy the heck out of it. Thanks for the enthusiasm.

Lol your rooted sense 3.0 experience won't compare with this device stock. It will be better on your evo 4g until this device is rooted. Just so you won't come compare the experience.
Its a great phone, you won't be disappointed
Camera freezes are the biggest thing for me to worry right now.
Otherwise, this phone is awesome.
If you're not a flashaholic then its the best phone you can buy right now. Even if you a flashaholic, you cannot the deny the dual core 1.2 GHz and 1 GB ram balls this beast has.

No way man, coming from the 4G running sense 3 the 3D blows it away man. Add in the two chichitec batteries and my battery life is close to double what my 4g was getting with a similar setup.
I'm content with temp root for the moment but the second I get s-off i'll have this phone flying.

Man welcome to hell this phone sux huge balls 3D is bad really bad. I have light leakage my screen is crooked my battery life sucks I only have 1 core and there is no permanent root for god sakes I want to be able to flash roms. Idk what these guys are talking about this is such a Downgrade from the OG. If no permanent root before 7/24 I'm taking it back.....
Now that you've heard all the bs, this is the best phone i've ever had my hands on and 2011 I had most of the new hot smart phones my favorite was the OG Evo. This phone is a keeper for sure the 3D is wonderful the phone is completely fast as hell and I really don't have any complaints.
Bang.... That's the sound of my shooter.

I did notice that. Fortunately the Synergy Rom is providing some meantime amusement. I'll have to look into the spideman game, I've been such a nut for Plants v Zombies, abduction 2, and quite a few others I was lucky enough to get from that Amazon free application deal. Thanks for the words, and I'm pretty sure I'll be enjoying it!

Good to know. I'm sure it will tide me over until development allows for alternatives.
SIDENOTE:
Do you have the T-Mo Espresso still? My Fiance has that, and I really haven't found a Sense based rom that is really stable... You know of any? She's on one of the latest nightlies of Cyanogenmod, but I have not been able to find a dumbed-down-enough method of S-Off, so it is still S-On, and I have to do that "update" anytime I want to enter the custom recovery. What method did you use for S off? Seen any good sense Roms?

Self proclaimed flashaholic... but I think I can deal. That's the exact reason I finally went for it, the dual core really sold me on it. Truth be told, I have not even had the luxury of putting hands on one yet. The first one I see will be mine! I feel like Cartman waiting for the Nintendo Wii...

Now THAT is good to hear. Temp-root still sounds good to me. If they've gotten this thing to 1.8mhz without a meltdown, I'd assume it can take some pretty decent frequencies consistently. Time will tell.

Good to hear, again, I haven't been lucky enough to lay hands on it! Good to hear your favorite was the Evo, ditto on that! No buyers remorse here!
Hey just wanted to add that I noticed you said "finally pulled the trigger". Good pun considering you just bought a "Shooter" haha....
I'll tell you what really caught me off guard was the little things they implemented in sense 3.0. On my OG EVO I had to get different apps to do things that are now built-in. It was a welcome surprise. The back speaker disappointed me a little at first, but I weened myself off of it and I'm used to it now. Overall its an awesome phone, but you don't need to hear it from me... I really feel like I have the top of the line for now, and it seems that its only gonna get better.

Lol... yeah, unintentional pun to be honest.
Well that is good to hear about the 3.0, I've grown pretty accustomed to Sense 3.0 Elements on the OG!
It IS the top of the line, for now, as is all electronic hardware. But I think it will be able to hold up for a full year. Imagine, soon we will be looking back at the Shooter wondering how we ever got along with such a slow 3D phone, especially when 5G and 6G is all the rave... lol
I'll have it in the next day or two... Xmas coming early!
Welcome...you enjoy the speed of this demon....don't you... I miss synergy also but we are shortly ( hopefully ) getting custom roms to take care of that and others that could not be run on the evo 4g. You will notice a few things different and they what ever they are I found are quickly forgotten the more you use the phone. If you haven't already...temp root...download barnacle for wifi tethering and what ever you use...get your titanium and you will be all set. There is a lot of bickering around here...that is true...but one thing I noticed..it is the new users who have no idea what's up come in here and start them...or haters coming in and bashing the 3vo saying it is not this or that( most of the time, they don't even own one).. Or long time community members with a agenda..you are right..once perm root comes along with unlocked phones..it will settle down and become more positive.
Ironic that I'm posting this because I used to get so sick of seeing these back when rooting the D1 was the thing to do. However, I thought it might be nice to have a thread that anyone on the fence could browse through to see some opinions re pros & cons.
I rooted my D1 the day after I got it in Jan of 2010. This was before there were any easy tools and it was all new territory. It was pretty fun and I spent weeks of my spare time playing with different ROMS. But in the end, the only reason I think I stayed rooted was to get a black theme and to overclock because the D1 cpu was so much slower than other phones. Now I have a dual-core 1.2Ghz phone that already gets hot and I don't think I want to overclock it and the theme is already what I want. So why root?
I have the latest OS (almost) and the phone does pretty much everything I want. The only reason I can think of to root is to be on the bleeding edge & get little tiny features before anyone else. Don't get me wrong; that is fun, but since I've been there / done that, I'm not sure it's worth it this time. I know I can't decide on a ROM until I've tried all the popular ones and I don't think I want to spend all that time & energy bouncing between ROMS.
I thought maybe I would just get root so I could use my root tools like Titanium, etc, but now it looks like the current root prevents OTA updates and if I'm not going to custom ROM, then I want those OTA updates.
I've been on the edge of my seat, hoping the devs would crack this phone, but now that it's happened, here I sit trying to decide. Anyone else in this same boat?
If you read the post, you'll realize I'M NOT LOOKING FOR ADVICE - just looking for others' opinions, that's all.
My perspective? Definitely root. Why not? If I root and want nothing else? I'm all set. if I don't root and want to do something I can't without root i've got no options....
I see no down side. Also CM ftw.

I don't know what the **** a 3vo is, but if you have an Evo 3D, I'd say root it. It's awesome.
I would root it just to get rid of annoying sprint apps that take up room for no good reason. I have the memory for it, but i hate seeing them just chill there.
You want my opinion? Root your damn evo 3d right NAOW!!!
If you aren't going to flash a new ROM then probably not much point because it will be hard to get updated software with out using a somewhat custom ROM.
But really why not root and find a ROM that suites you. These are all updated usually within hours of an update. Outside of losing some of the bloat you can barely tell that it isn't stock.
I'm in the same situation. I came from a rooted EVO 4G and enjoyed the benefits of flashing ROMs, mods, and having that "total control" feeling. I've since transitioned to the 3D without looking back...too much.
With the 4G, I got used to being able to move things around in the file system without any issue. Things like "I like that ringtone from the last ROM I used, but it's not on this one. No problem, just copy it into the /system/media area and the ringer's back". I also miss using root-required apps, and getting rid of what I dont want.
Having those abilities back would justify rooting the 3D, to me. There aren't any ROMs at the moment that have really caught my eye and I don't mind the stock one anyway. Decisions, decisions...
I'm Rooted
I had to root to see what kind of snappy features I could get out of my phone.
I will admit though, Any time I have extra time I am hovering around my computer looking for the latest updated rom, searching CM for their first release and scouting all over these forums waiting. I have a rom I'm satisfied with and it's great to not see 4 pages of useless apps in my app tray. My goal is to keep it at 2 pages and I'm happy with that.
I also am OCD about certain things like how much battery I have and now I can see my percentage the second I turn on my screen. It makes me happy.
I would still do it again if I had the choice. I plan on learning how to customize my own rom here in the future as soon as I see a good tutorial posted. One has been started in the development section.

If he's an asshole by pointing out that the phone is an EVO 3D and not the 3vo, they deserve it. As for the question of this topic, I would definitely root it for ROMs and things like Ubuntu.

I know I have to see posts from people who don't know what they're doing - that just goes with the territory, but why should we have to see rude, childish crap? This isn't 4chan.
3vo has become a nickname for the phone. Just because you don't like it doesn't mean it's not still a nickname. And it's easier to type. Get over it. Why so much drama? Who cares what people call the damned phone?

I didnt think he was being an asshole or anything like that. Personally myself I dont like 3vo either. You mean to say 3d is harder to type then 3vo? And no im not trying to be a jerk either. But to me it looks like your pointing out stuff and making the drama by insulting the guy calling him an asshole and carrying on about his post. He has his right to his Opinion as do you.
As far as the root. I say to root.. even if its to get rid of bloatware and make the phone faster and take up less space. I like the way the 3d is layed out in general. But there are some things that can be improved. It also looks like you can easily take it back to stock if you so wanted to. I havent rooted mine yet, wont lie this is only my second Android device for myself. Wife has a Shift. I didnt root my Hero.. even though I should have it was horrible. but im pretty sure I will root my 3d. I do like the thought of being able to add ring tones from other roms and such and port over cool stuff. Not sure I want to change roms like crazy though. Who knows I just might get the bug.

Christ, who pissed in your cheerios? I merely like to toy with people calling it a 3vo.
Anyways, yes, root it. Adfree is enough of a reason alone to root.

Hi Solstice, My name is Estrogen....ewwwwwwww. You are cool though!
You can always unroot.
You can stay stock and just add SU, Busybox.
I like it just for the full backup abilities.
Tethering is my main reason functionally wanting root. And with root I now have Sprint Hot Spot working without Ad-Hoc. That alone is worth rooting for.
Stock is not bad and most ROM's are near Stock with some minor clean up.
I'm sure HTC will close this exploit soon with an OTA update.
LOL ok ok i guess I was being a drama queen here. My bad.

Plus I don't know how to root

Any updates that are pushed OTA will be available (if not days-to-hours before) hours after the OTA goes live to any portion of the userbase. If the camera update is one of them it I would expect it to probably be available here before your phase of the OTA roll-out even gets it's turn. There are a lot of us who would really like that update.
It is best not to accept updates as they have to potential to un-root you and making getting root again anywhere from difficult to impossible--ever. again. Ask E4G owners that took the update how that's working out for them. If you prize being rooted and all of the amazing things that lets you do I would recommend never taking an update. ever. Just check in here and you'll probably be ahead of the curve by a day or two...if not--worst case scenario: you get the update 3 or 4 hours late.
<opinion> Also, yeah, 3vo is weak. It's an EVO 3D. Everyone can call it what they wish, but, are we all 12 years old or does it just feel like that when everyone calls an HTC Evo 3D a "Three-voh"...IMO it doesn't look cool, it doesn't sound cool and has really suggested to me that this forum is more populated with 2-fast-2-furious fans than actual geeks. </opinion>
Hello everyone, I decided to start a little something called "Pauls ROM reviews" where I give you the low down on the hottest ROMs for the EVO 3D and give you some information about the developer/developing team and a little information and background about the people behind the ROMS. I figured this would be a fun way to get to know our developers more personally and to learn more about their work, and some of their future plans. Too often I feel we take them for granted so I thought giving you all some more information about the developers we can build more personal relationships so we can all understand one another better. I feel this will help build a stronger community and set us apart from some of the other forums on XDA.
This is very much an "average joe" review and is in no way claiming to be or attempting to be editorial quality material, structure, or content. This is meant to be a brief "feel" for what the ROM is about and what I think are the benefits of it, so please be gentle.
Today we are going to dive into viperROM, arguably one of the most popular ROMS. The viperROM thread is hot right now, a lot of people are excited about this ROM and its getting a lot of downloads and attention. The developers of this ROM are really on top of their game, are online often answering questions and being really helpful when people have problems. I feel they have a great dedication to their fan base and really care about their input and concerns, so I figured this would be a great place to start for a first ROM. Plus this is one of my favorite ROMs right now, so I really wanted to help spread the word out there for those of you still on the fence about rooting or maybe trying this ROM. I guarantee you: you want to try it! This is really great stuff guys.
First I would like to drive right into the ROM and go over some of its features with you. To set the record straight this will not be an insanely lengthy, long editorial over every single feature of the ROM. I will only be discussing some of the things I find most relevant and that other people will find relevant. Any questions about other features that aren't mentioned here should be directed to the viperROM thread in the Android Development section of the EVO 3D forums.
First and foremost I find the battery life to be good. Considering the screen on this phone I didn't expect it to be amazing, but I can typically make it about 8-10 hours with a lot of usage throughout the day at work texting and internet browing a lot of the day with the phone awake most of the time. I consider this pretty good. If you aren't an extremely heavy user it wouldn't surprise me if you could squeeze a good 15 hours or more out of this ROM if you have decent reception where you are at.
One of the great things about this ROM is the OC script that is built into the ROM. I really like this, because I feel that it is one less app running in the background consuming space and battery, and I think overall a script like this is probably more efficient than an application governing the CPU. It is quite simple to run and allows the governor of your sleep state and awake state, as well as all the clock speeds your particular kernel allows.
Hotspot is unlocked as well, ads are blocked, there are memory tweaks in the ROM, and a lot of bloatware we don't use has also been removed. Luckily for those who do want some of these apps, viper was courteous enough to leave the zip files on the SD card to install at your leisure. The four in one boot option is something that is really nice as well. There are other great additions to the ROM; I would recommend reading about them over in the development thread as these things are what are most important to me. One other thing, this ROM has one hell of a theme. It really looks great and is quite appealing to the eyes. Many people have a lot of positive feedback on it, so if you are an eye candy lover this should be a treat for you. Now I want to tell you about the best part of this ROM..
This is the true icing on the cake. Not only is this ROM feature rich and does not sacrifice any HTC Sense features for those of you who love Sense ROMS, but it runs FASTER than any other Sense ROM I have had the pleasure of running in the development section. For me, this runs faster than even the stripped Sense ROMs. That really says something to me; these guys did a fantastic job of optimizing here. They not only provided a feature rich package for us, but it runs so damn fast. I am running it at the default 1188MHz without a stutter or a hiccup in speeds. I highly recommend Opera Browser on this ROM as well, it is butter smooth, scrolling up and down pages is absolutely flawless and lag free. This is more than I could say for the stock ROM. I suspect a lot of this might be due to the GPU acceleration which was added in RC 1.3. For those of you who have tried this ROM before but might be using something else, you need to flash ViperROM RC 1.3. You won't be disappointed!
The main point about this ROM that I'd like to get out to you all is that if you want a ROM that doesn’t sacrifice HTC Sense and has stellar performance this is the one for you. There are a lot of options out there right now and a lot of you are overwhelmed and don't know where to start. This is where you should start; I feel this is the bar for Sense ROMs right now. Start with viperROM and then compare other ROMs; I don't think you'll regret it.
Go here to check out a full list of features. Read the first couple posts: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1192628
Next it's time to meet -viperboy- and Vinchenzop, they are working on this ROM together and are a formidable team. I am going to ask them a bunch of questions. We will get to know these two developers a bit better, learn more about the ROM, their future plans for ViperROM and more. Let’s begin!
-viperboy- interview:
1. Tell us a bit about you, some of your hobbies and interests, what you like doing in your free time or whatever else you'd like your fans to know.
"Well, Android is my biggest hobby without a doubt. I do love cars as well, my daily driver is an 02 Nissan Maxima 6MT with about 5k in motor work (10k+ into the car total), quite the sleeper! haha I have a wonderful circle of friends that I know I can always count on and a wonderful girlfriend who puts up with all my Android nonsense lol
I used to work for Verizon Wireless as an In-Store Technician. I was very good at what I did, getting calls from District Managers 150+ miles away asking me how to solve major customer issues, leading conference calls to entire districts to fill them in on new technology and information we should know about (pulled many an article to share from Droid-Life and EngadgetMobile!), and, most importantly, making my customers happy. I am a people-pleaser and I did everything I could to make a customer happy, including honoring warrantys on rooted phones
I loved my job but I had to leave my full-time job at Verizon Wireless to work part-time at Best Buy so I could go back to school. I am a Multi-Channel Sales Associate (aka "Store *****" - the person you talk to on the phone when you call and ask me annoying questions like "Do you have one of them iPod 2 tablet things??") Everyone at works knows I'm nuts about phones and Android and I used to work in Best Buy Mobile and brought alot of my talent over there. I pretty much got everyone on the Android train and taught people how to mod their own phones! Quite a beautiful thing!
I currently attend Penn State University persuing a degree in Information Science and Technology. One day, I would love to work for HTC or one of the other OEMs with my dream job being working for Google in their Android division!"

2. How long have you been developing on the Android platform?
"I have been deving for Android for less than 6 months but I've learned so much, it's insane! Right now, my big projects are viperROM and viperMOD Voltage Control. viperROM is my first ROM and I've created and I'm very proud to put my name on it. viperMOD Voltage Control has been about 4 months in the making, starting out as a fairly simple shell script and now the app is almost complete! I found that I really enjoy shell scripting the deeper I got into viperMOD and I would consider that my "specialty"."

3. How do you feel about the future of the EVO 3D? Do you feel there are great things to come and still more potential to be unlocked in this phone?
"I think there is a great future for the EVO 3D! This phone has some of the best specs out there right now and the hardware is incredibly powerful, so there are many things going its way. There are a huge amount of ROMs out not even a week since we had S-OFF which I think really says how much interest there is in this phone. I would say that within the next month you will see some very amazing things starting to happen to this phone, so yes, plenty of potential still left in this phone (overclocking and tweaking the GPU, powerful custom kernels, etc)"

4. What about the EVO 3D inspired you to know you wanted to develop for it? Is the EVO 3D your primary phone? If not what is?
"Truthfully, the hardware was the main draw for me. I didn't care much about the 3D part of the phone, although it is a cool "Look what my phone can do!" feature. I really see some tremendous potential in the hardware (And software too). Yes, the EVO 3D is my primary phone. I used to have an HTC EVO 4G before this and almost every Verizon Android phone when I worked for them - D1, DInc, DX (most recent phone when I left). My Dad, stepsister, stepmom, brother, and girlfriend all have Android's (EVO 3D, HTC Hero, Samsung Epic, HTC EVO Shift, and Samsung Captivate, respectively) but my mom and stepdad are too technically challened to want an Android lol"

5. What made you choose to develop on the Android platform? Have you ever considered WebOS or iOS? What are your feelings about these platforms?
"I have had alot of phones in my day, even when I was in grade school and high school I would call Sprint and play the retention game and get new phones literally every few months. My Dad never cared as long as hit bill wasn't messed up lol I started over on SprintUsers.com working with BitPim to mod the RAZR2 and posting guides on how to work with it at the age of about 13/14. Once I found how much fun it was to modify phones, that was it! I moved away from dumbphones and started to get into smartphones. I had phones WinMo phones like the Moto Q, HTC Mogul, and HTC Touch. That was my platform of choice until I go into Blackberry. I really liked how solid they were and I wasn't a power user like I am now, so I liked it. The Blackberry 8900 was one of my favorite phones, to be honest. Looked great and was just fun to use! I would say the D1 was and always will be my favorite, as it was my entry into Android, then the HTC EVO 4G, and then the EVo 3D (slowly moving up my list!)
A little more on topic to the question you asked - I really liked the customization that you get with an Android phone. I liked that it was easy to hack and easy to make it feel like it was meant for you. I love that there is a ton of support out there for Android, XDA really is a wonderful site (minus the douchebaggery that can go on sometimes) I bought the original iphone back when it came out (had to drive to philly to get it since that was the closest apple store at the time and ATT wouldn't sell me an unlocked one!) and beta tested the original jailbreak and unlock for it. I managed to get it working on T-Mobile's prepaid sidekick plan and used it for a while. It was a cool phone at the time, but it still felt like it was lacking something. I also had the Pre for about 2 weeks and I just did not like it. No customization and I didn't think it had a good future (seems like I might have been right lol)
I feel like webOS will continue to be pushed by HP for a while, but I don't see it suceeding as a mobile platform and I see that slowly coming to and end. As for iOS, it does a great job with having almost identical SW between the devices (something android undeniably still lacks at the moment) and when jailbroken, I don't mind using it for a few days, but then I get bored but it will be taken over by Android and we are seeing that happen now. Android is only going to continue taking an even bigger lead."

6. Are you surprised by the success of viperROM?
"To be honest, yes I am. I built the ROM as a fun project for me to see how I could do and I thought I might get a small following of people from the EVO 4G that liked viperMOD Voltage Control to use my ROM. I had NO idea that it was going to hit it off like this! It was, to my knowledge, the first booting and working EVO 3D ROM on S-OFF day. Just for a few stats, scott951 @miuimods.net gratiously offered to host our ROM but we had no idea what we were in for. In less than a week, we blew through over 7TB of data, so with the ROM being ~350mb, if my math is correct, that's almost 21,000 total downloads of RC1, RC1.1, and RC1.2. It was so much that scott951's host suspended the account, forcing us to look elsewhere for a host. We settled on dev-host.org and multiupload for mirror (after a failed attempt with wupload) and since then, we've had over 2500 downloads of RC1.3 in less than a 24hr period. I would say that's pretty good.
Also as it stand, we have the most posts and views of any ROM thread in EVO 3D dev "

7. What are some of your future plans with the EVO 3D or the Android platform in general?
"I would like to get more into kernel development. I find it interesting and there is alot of technical information to learn which is fun for me to learn. Plus, that means that I can have a device running everything I made and I know everything can work together in perfect harmony. I'd also like to play with the GPU a little bit more and see how far it can be pushed.
The next big thing I'm going to need to get ready for is the launch of viperMOD Voltage Control and supporting as many devices as possible. I want to get this app to work on any device with a compatible kernel!"

8. What kinds of things can we look forward to in future releases of viperROM? Are there any surprises we will want to keep our eyes open for?

10. What do you feel sets viperROM apart from all the other ROMs for the EVO 3D?
"What sets viperROM apart is the OC daemon that I implemented and build a script to work with it, battery life that is better than any other ROM while maintaining excellent performance, and lastly but most important is unparalleled user support. I am in my thread as often as possible to answer questions and support my work. If it takes more than an hour or so for a response from me, that is out of the ordinary. I also respond to every PM and email that I get. I want my users to have the same great experience I do when I use my ROM and I want to make sure they enjoy it, that is very important to me. "

11. How did you and Vinchenzop team up?
"That is a funny story, but the short and sweet version is we had a chat one time via PM about how we noticed that a certain dev or devs weren't really doing their own work and were claiming other peoples work as theirs. We both found it repulsive and ridiculous and decided that we would make a good team together and we really do. I do almost all of the ROM work and he does almost all of the theme work and that really helps me out because it gives me more time to work on my stuff. He always gets things done quickly and fixes things for me almost right away if there is anything that isn't correct the first time around. I'm happy to have him as part of viperROM "

3. How do you feel about the future of the EVO 3D? Do you feel there are great things to come and still more potential to be unlocked in this phone?
"Absolutely! This phone is a borderline mini-computer I know, that term has been used for years to describe "smart-phones", but this is the first time that I feel that it really applies to a phone correctly. With the obvious talent in the dev-pool on the Evo 3D, I think many great things are in the future of this phone."

4. What about the EVO 3D inspired you to know you wanted to develop for it? Is the EVO 3D your primary phone? If not what is?
"Yes, the Evo 3D is my primary phone. The thing that inspired me to develop for it was that I used to do dev work on the Evo 4G, and I wanted to translate my ideas and efforts to help in the Evo 3D community as much as I did for the 4G."

5. What made you choose to develop on the Android platform? Have you ever considered WebOS or iOS? What are your feelings about these platforms?
"I choose the Android scene because that was what was on my Evo 4G. I saw that phone when it first came out, and knew I'd wanted it. Once I had it, I knew I wanted to personalize it, and well, you know the rest.
As far as WebOS and IOS...It's been a few years since I've used a phone that had any windows-based software on it (I think it was when the Moto Q came out), so I'm not familiar with the specifics on that side of the fence. IOS? Well, as stated earlier, I love music, and in my personal opinion, IPods have that market covered, at least in my house."

8. What kinds of things can we look forward to in future releases of ViperROM? Are there any surprises we will want to keep our eyes open for?
"Top Secret! No, not really...with us, we're more worried about the overall base of the ROM, which from feedback from the users, we've succeeded thus far. So currently, future plans consist of aesthetic changes/options. Applying user feedback requests, and just trying to make everyone experience their phone the way they should...their way."

9. What the hell is this "3VO" I keep hearing about?!

Thanks for your time guys im sure people will enjoy reading this!

Great Stuff and great Idea. Beings that I just rooted my first Android Phone Ever this will help me get a look at some of the Roms out there and get some user feedback.

Paul, this is one of the greatest idea's here and really enjoyed reading this. I hope you continue to do it.
I was glad to see team Viper up first as there ROM is not only sweet but they seem like great people as well.
For anyone who hasn't tried their Rom yet, what are you waiting for! Also, there ROM thread is a joy to be a part of. It is like a family in there.
I have noticed that the Rezound ROMs were coming out fast and furious, new ROMs, updates and improvements on an almost daily basis. And then 2 or 3 weeks ago it just stopped. Lots of active threads in the Dev section, but nothing really new has come out?
Are devs waiting for the OTA, which won't be here for another few months, or has the Rezound just run its course and the new phones that are coming out are taking the lead and Dev time now?
The Rezound is great, but lets face it, it is now second tier as their replacements are already out, and they won't official get ICS till July or August, making them even less desirable to Devs to spend time on a phone that will likely stop being sold before too long?
My fear is that the Rezound will take too long to get ICS OTA and source code released, and by the time it is, the phone will be on its way out the door, there are newer better phones out that Devs will feel it is better to spend their time on, etc...
Thoughts?
Hasn't stopped. I know Scott's working on a one x rom, Newt just released an update and Joelz is rebasing his rom which should be awesome.
I have been working hard to get Team Eos AOSP working on my phone, but still stuck with RIL like everybody else at this point. Once there is source for ICS, development will go ballistic again. Don't worry.

Even though there will be a ton of newer better phones on the market, do you really see things picking back up on an "older" phone like the Rezound?
well there's great significance when it comes to updating immediately to the newest leaks, after that period it's back to timed updates and changes
new phones will slowly kill, but it's not that development slowed down, there just hasn't been any trigger for another immediate and curt developmental spike

I still see some activities going on in the Inc development forums, so I'd say yes
The Rezound is a great phone with a great Dev community and in my opinion still has plenty of life left in it.
We had 3 leaks in a matter of a month. Nothing lately so nothing much to update.

Development is still going pretty hard behind the scenes, I don't see it dropping off for a few months at least. The devs are still working just as hard as they ever have, its just that people seem to complain a lot about wiping and reflashing every few days, and as roms progress the updates are fewer and further between. There's also a lot that goes on behind the scenes that isnt posted on the forums, in the last couple of weeks, last three weeks I guess, I think the biggest advances and accomplishments on the rezound yet have happened, in my opinion. Most of which hasn't been posted yet because they're tieing up loose ends.
I do think you're right about the fact that a lot of us will be moving on to New devices shortly after kernel source is released, when a quad core beast hits Verizon with super specs, something probably the next step above the one s and one x.
But I think we havent begun to see this phone's potential yet and with another leak or OTA and kernel source its really going to be a beast. I could see it having a pretty long lifespan kinda like the OG Droid. A lot of us will probably buy new hardware eventually that may take time to get rooted and s off and this phone will be capable enough to feed our custom rom and kernel addictions until the new phones we get are exploited.

I'm also thinking that if Newt was asked to remove the tweaks from his ROM because "there were too many similar ROMs", perhaps the same was asked of Bored which would personally p!ss me off. Who cares if some ROMs are very similar, they all have little differences.
If that's really the case, maybe Scott was asked the same. After all, CleanROM, CleanROM Pro and CleanROM DE are all the same but with more stuff removed.

Wow. IMO this phone is just too darn good to waste my money on a retail upgrade (and marginal one at that).
I came from the D1 and within months I was constantly flashing roms and tweaking trying to whip a few extra ponies into it.
Otherwise, in 5 months with the Rezound I've flashed 2-3 times and just s-off'd this weekend. I've had basically no issues and it's nice not to have to babysit my phone to get it to run the way I want it to. Just rock solid, and the development is great.
I can appreciate that everyone is looking for something different, but myself I just need a couple of good roms and I'm set.
Not gonna lie, if in another month or two, we don't have anything new, this phone is getting traded out.

He does have a point. Look at our roms. Mostly all the same minus themes, same tweaks all across the board. Whats different? What stands out ? .
Im not flaming any devs or saying they should do more, they do a fine job actually. But its true. We lack true options. Sense 4 yes, its different and good but still needs working. Aosp is still being worked on and no one knows if itll get to work in the end or not.
I see newer phones dev section, say the one s, there flying with tons of roms, aosp. And im sure kernel dev will rise once source is out.
I know ril is our problem, but still. You cant fault someone esle giving up, nobody expected us tobe just stuck with sense. I know i didnt, but ill deal with it in the meantime

Using a bolt ATM that I thought would never get any good ROMS, well its got as many options as any phone out there. Pretty much all HTC phones due to the boot loader if nothing else are going to have good dev sections. If u wanna see a sad dev section check out all moto phones with exception of the atrix and that is only BC they found a unloclable BL or something of that sort in a leak.

all im saying is people dont know the half of what goes on behind the scenes. myself included. just because people aren't on here every 10 minutes giving updates of everything that goes on does not mean progress has not, and is not, being made.

dude, come on. you post once a week about how you're either sick of this phone because it'll never run AOKP or that you've given up hope on AOKP. enough is enough. if you don't like the god damn phone because it runs sense, go buy a ****ing nexus.

This is so true. Why in the WORLD did you buy an HTC phone that you know runs sense when you DON'T want sense? Nothing is a given. I remember my 1st android phone was an Eris, and one time a leak came out, and the people who flashed it were STUCK. For the LONGEST TIME! Could not go up, down, were totally stuck on the leak. Things happen, and sometimes, things DON'T happen.
I want AOSP too. But not because I don't like sense, otherwise I would not have gotten the Rezound. I like options, that's all.
Lesson? Don't buy an HTC phone if you don't like sense. Simple as that.

But I plan on keeping the device even if/when I get the Nexus or SIII or whatever.
I hope it comes. I bought it assuming that it would honestly. I like sense but is bloated so much now. I would rather have more battery and speed that cm would offer. Now I could give a ff about aokp. As long as newt is around am at ease.
Sense 4 came a.long way with him. One or more two editions and I see that Rom being the one and only for the rezound.
Don't hold your breath, live with the fact that it will not happen (yay if it does )and work on finding a descent rom that fits ur needs rather than wasting time checking Twitter and xda, work with a specific Rom. Be generous and.patient and polite with your dev and you will reap gold
