[WARNING] KDZ will brick your phone! Don't remove battery! - Optimus One, P500, V General

After hard bricking my phone.. I learned a lesson.. Whenever your flashing stock rom through KDZ or LGMDP or whenever you're in emergency mode..
NEVER REMOVE THE BATTERY WHEN YOUR PHONE IS IN EMERGENCY MODE..!!!
Do anything but don't ever remove the battery!
It will hard brick your phone.. You will have to JTAG it or change the PCB mainboard (which is costly)..!!
I request MODERATORS to sticky this please! So that no user bricks his phone after this!

I always use LGMDP with phone in emergency mode and i have done that sometimes and never bricked phone plus it reboots phone when done only if you dont let finish the work the only thing that soft bricked my phone once was LG offical updater, have you taken phone to warranty and say that phone bricked while using their updater if you have warranty they fix it for free

As i have read post by someone on xda if im not mistaken, he said to charge the battery at least 80% before using emergency mode. So its mean will get the problem if battery die before you done the progress... so i never tried to remove the battery also...
Really good information i though..

LEMME CLARIFY
if kdz isn't in progress. lets say it isn't plugged in to a computer then taking out be batter is ok
BUT ONCE IT IS CONNECTED TO A COMPUTER AND KDZ ALREADY STARTED, THEN DO NOT UNPLUG IT, OR TAKE THE BATTERY OUT

Bad experience myself, when first using LGDMP. I did exactly what is mentioned as the topic..I got frustrated because of the program stalling so I removed the battery and well had a shiny brick of a phone..I have never used KDZ ( thank god)..funny thing is in that picture tutorial it does say do not remove battery while in E.Mode...but c'mon were all men here and to smart to read directions..LMAO..anyways about JTAG,it would cost more to do that than the USA retail price, you might as well use that money to get a better phone or a hooker for the night

[Q] Soft Bricked phone!

I believe I may have a soft brick on my SGS II. I had updated my CM9 to the latest in the thread and started to have a few problems. I had my phone overheat and die on me one time and take forever to charge back up. It originally had a yellow triangle next to the battery. After several hours of charging it booted up and I was able to use my phone again. I had never had an issue with CM9 before this and since this day, I had many outstanding issues with it.
As of last night I have had a soft brick I am assuming. But it doesn't seem to be recoverable either. Which is insanely strange. I had flashed many stock firmware and firmware files in Odin but can't see to get the phone to boot bast the AT&T Rethink Possible screen. It's been sitting for two days like this and I can only get to this screen after I have flashed something in Download mode. (doesn't matter, as long as odin resets device I get here) tried repartitioning, flashing stock modem, flashing stock rom in the how to get your device ready to be replaced thread, flashed kernels, flash stock PARAM. and I have got nothing.
Anyway to tell if my phone is saveable? I have the download counter set back to 0 so if push comes to shove i can try to get a new phone from at&t on tuesday.
But i'd really like to see my phone get fixed, the experience is good. Hopefully we can figure this out. All I can get access to is Download mode so recovery is pretty much out of the question.
Any advice guys? Google has done me no good.
Flash a rooted, cwm kernel through Odin, reboot into recovery, flash a rom.
^ that method has never failed me.
Also, when using Odin, use the USB ports on the back of your computer!

Be careful, I have noticed that Odin acts like a ***** when you talk him about extended usb ports.
Reboot your pc, strange as it seems that can fix a lot of ODIN problems.
Does ODIN like x64 based systems?

I am running ODIN on an x64 based laptop. it has worked flawlessly until now! I have a soft bricked I777 also so I'm watching this thread for any good stuff to try.
My odin freezes right at the beginning of the FACTORYFS.img push.
It just sits and sits and sits. Drains the battery also.
I'm gonna go try a CWM kernel to see if that will help. My issue I think is the partitions are screwed somehow.
I can't flash back to factory standard because I had JB on my I777 and the flashes are getting stopped up by the partitions.
thanks for the input ...
I never thought of flashing just a kernel! DUHHH...

Why are you people so UPTIGHT!!!
The simple fact that NOTHING save a PIT file is able to be written to my phone is the ISSUE here!
So no the Kernal did NOT work. I cannot flash a ROM either as they are all .zips requiring me to have access to my phone. Obviously there is no solution at least on this site! All you people can do is criticize! Does that REALLY make you feel superior?
How about FIXING something? Give me some text I can use!

Trell959 you Biporch and ryude talking about the USB ports and odin being a ***** got me thinking about my computer.
Although I have used my x64 based laptop many times to communicate with my phone for some reason that was exactly what the issue was.
I spent about 15 hours trying to figure out what was wrong with my phones com when it was the USB ports was not 'CLEAN' enough.
I finally moved to my server and plugged into the Main USB ports on it. Low and Behold the First time I was flashing away like a Big Dog!

I bricked my phone thanks to a misinformation on how to flash recovery.img
JIG did not work for me either. the only thing I could do was to drop at an att store and told them the phone is not working. they tried some stuff on it and then gave me a new one instead.
The only thing was that I had it for less than a month.

JTAG unbrick

Does anyone have any experience with jtag and unbricking? I ask because after bricking two phones, a third probably won't go over so well with the warranty dept. I'm willing to pick up a jtag jig so that I can keep developing but I'd like to pick the brain of someone with experience in this area before I do so. Possibly someone with the hardware already whose willing to soft brick and attempt a recovery. I know its a lot to ask but if we have
a definite way to unbrick we can really go at it. Plus I'd be willing to use the jig I pick up to attempt unbricking for others if they soft brick while devving.

qhusb_dload? I tried by doing the wire trick (like for s-off). I figured if I could get that I'd be able to recover but it wasn't working for me. Is there another way?
Right now I get no indication that the phone has any signs of life, no power on at all and not even a charge led. I have another one on its way but I really don't want to try for three strikes. I'm thinking I'm going to stay s-on for devving. It should be harder to brick then.

This is the exact reason I never s-off'd. I don't need the smallest mistake to cost me a phone. With all of the aroma installers, it doesn't really seem necessary.

It would still be nice to have a solid way of unbricking. If I keep sending them back with the same exact problem I feel they would get suspicious eventually. Plus the new one I just got is pretty flawless so far, no dead pixels or anything so I'd like to keep it.
I have a new CM build sitting here right now that I'm terrified to try. Haha. So if you're uh sending the one with the bad screen back and want to try a couple things out first...
Yea that would be sick if we could get this to work. Probably, to find a JTAG/Uart port, we would have to take the board out of the device. I don't really wanna do it to mine since I wouldn't know how to put it back together

[Q] [Help] Can't boot phone at all after installing kernel

After rooting my phone and installing the LiquidSmooth rom, I was looking for a kernel to try and oc my cpu. Found this one, did a nandroid backup, and flashed it: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1362424&page=2
Problem is, now my phone won't boot at all. By this I mean, it won't normal boot or boot into recovery, it doesnt even have any splash screens. No matter what buttons I hold down the screen stays black, nothing pops up, no sounds are made, nothing vibrates, absolutely nothing happens.
The battery isn't dead, I had it charging when I was doing all of this and it was at least 90%.
Please help, I don't have any idea what, if anything, can be done D:

Oh man, that sounds like what happened to mine, It died.. dead. nothing. sent it back to where I bought and they replaced it. it was in the 15 day period. jag wanted 250 to fix it, I just bought a second note for parts. if it did die, keep an eye out for a broken screan can get cheap.
Ur prob is u flashed the wrong kernal for the wrong type of phone that is a no no. The n7000 is not the same as the i717. That is y u stay in the same section of the phone u have. I hope u still have a warranty. Next time stay in the i717 section.

So basically, my only option is to replace it?
Or send it to JTAG repair service, spend $50, wait a week.
My Note just kicked the bucket too. I installed Flap-Jack's Kernel on top of Liquid Jellybean 2.8 and when it tried to reboot it seems to have died & laid down on me. It's going to be fun using an old Motorola Flip Phone again. Damn, I'm pissed!

Which version of flapjaxx's kernel did you flash? He has kernels for ICS and jellybean. Must have flashed a ICS version.

I knew it was JB. I used h0tcakez-JB-Kernal-v2.3.5-Alt. I used it on 3 or 4 different roms here lately with no issues..

I forgot to mention that my Jig doesn't do anything with this!
Heck I'll buy it for $50 lol.

I bought it brand new from a guy on eBay and then registered it on the Samsung site. It shows to be still in warranty on Samsung's site till the end of June. Will it still be this easy to get it replaced as u say AT&T is?
Post withdrawn.
I'm going to report it to Samsung tomorrow and at least try to send it in.I wish they'd accidentally send me a Note 2 for kicks & grins.
Yeah, that's fair. You screwed up, then tried to defraud the warranty process. You definately deserve an upgrade.
No wonder the bootloaders are being locked and prices are more ridiculous. What ever happened to "I screwed up -- no I live with my mistake?"

Now I'm all for people expressing their opinions whether its in support or against whatever topic that's being discussed. However, insulting comments like this one I've quoted is unnecessary and has absolutely no value. There is a difference between stating that you don't agree with something or explaining why you don't agree, verses personally attacking or insulting someone because you don't like what was said. "Grown men", as I'm sure we all are, should know the difference and know what's appropriate and what's not.

I've told certain individuals in several threads not to condone fraud on this forum the last 2 days . Enough is enough.

Sometimes shame can cause positive character growth.
Besides, people who commit fraud and encourage others to do it hurt a lot more than feelings.

Stop referring people to that thread of yours when phones aren't bricked. Immediately. Or I will deal with you. Are we clear ? :-/
If they follow those steps & the phone isn't bricked, they sure as fcuk will have a brick on their hands if it goes wrong.
This person's phone isn't even remotely close to being bricked, it's a simple case of 'Odin won't work' like 99.9999% of those cases on here, and the fix is usually very simple.
OP - This gets covered here so many times per week it ain't funny. Search for similar threads, there are a bunch troubleshooting steps you need to follow (This is the final time I'm typing that as well, from now on people will just get 'Search').

thank you but the problem is that i cant get odin to recognize the phone, and i cant seem to find a fix on the site that i haven't yet tried, so, i'm trying to see if anyone has anything other that install drivers, uninstall kies, and use samsungs cable, because i've tried all of those multiple times with no luck

Yeah I get it  (that's why the first line of the guide is meant to and usually does, scare people off), but if he eventually reaches the desperation point(no amount of flash attempts succeeds) , following my guide would be better than blind flashing of pit files(in a case where recovery is completely inaccessible my guide is useless) , which I have seen people recommending to do, if the user is lucky enough to flash a kernel and bootup the recovery, memory block corruption(it can happen because of reasons like phone turned off while flashing via Odin, removing cable midway of odin flash, and possibly several others) can also be effectively corrected.
Edit :I have made the guide a little bit more safer so that any noob who ignores all the warnings and go ahead with the procedure will stop after the first step if he/she is not having corrupted block's, effectively keeping him/her safe.

Well I don't think you could even attempt my guide since you can't flash via Odin and don't have recovery, it works only for people who can somehow bootup into recovery.

Without Odin you're basically screwed, did you try different computers? Or are you sure that your usb port is in full working condition?

I hope you read all my replies (also those in the guide thread because I have explained some stuff and made some changes ) basically if a user ignores everything in my guide and flashes any of the pit files, only if the flash fails will he get a brick(as usual), otherwise he will have an sd card with a lot less space. I hope you don't mind me quoting you in my main post.

Wow. That's a magical fix
OP - You were told to search for similar threads, there are 6 or so other steps you haven't even tried once yet. Bottom line is, if you want your phone fixed, you're going to need to do everything and quite possibly do it over & over till it works. Nobody here can do that for you. If you can't be bothered trying 2nd or 3rd PC and go thru the troubleshooting steps as well on those if necessary, your phone is going to stay busted.
The end.

I tried 3 of them, the original Samsung cable, and an original LG cable, along with another generic one
Well, don't you think it would be smart to get another S2 cable?
Borrow it, buy it, whatever.

my friend has an S2 as well, I just borrowed his hes here with me, and still nothing, whats happening is that the computers arent even recognizing that something has been plugged in, none of them are, his phone is recognized instantly by odin and all, but once he unplugs his and i plug it into mine, it just does nothing
