Couldn't you just run an RUU and return the phone to completely stock?
Kinda like I did ‪here. (except it was with the Hero)
because one guide says to run an update.zip and run some fast boot commands to get S-ON back... But wouldn't an RUU flash you to stock with S-ON?
YOU GUYS ARE THE BEST..
guys .. do the superwipe 3 times.. even if gives slide error .. make sure your phone is not connected thru USB to the computer... it will clean certain data hidden and make the phone literally clean and ready for a new fresh ROM
Hello everybody
The new ICS update for the ROGERS EVO 3D just came out yesterday, so I restored my phone to the original firmware (via restoring the backup I did in the recovery) and then proceeded to download the OTA update. After it finished, the phone rebooted into the recovery (i have 4-ext touch recovery) and started installing. After it finished, the phone rebooted and then got stuck on the white HTC screen. I managed to enter the recovery again and restore the original firmware again. What is that I'm doing wrong here? Here is some helpful info:
Rogers EVO 3D, GSM version
Unlocked bootloader (HTCDEV method), S-ON
carrier unlocked
HBOOT 1.49.0008
OS is rooted
I'm in the same boat but I'm not able to do a recovery. I went through the update process and when the phone rebooted it got stuck on the white htc screen. I can get it into the bootloader menu but when i choose recovery it starts but then i get an error with a pic of the device and the red yield sign. If i choose factory reset it just gets stuck at the white htc. I read some other posts and I saw that having an unlocked bootloader may cause issues with updates so that may be your issue as for me, I'm not sure what I can do. I may just need the actual update file to redo the update but I'm not sure where to find it.
Same here, but I don't get half way through the ota update before I see the red triangle and exclamation mark. Phone will boot into stock recovery (which I would assume you need instead of modded recovery) and the update starts, but doesn't complete. I pull the battery and the phone boots up normally. Just can't seem to get through the update. Could be something to do with being s-off I would guess.

Same problem but whit s-off
I have been predicting that this would happen... ICS failures with non-standard HBOOTs. Good luck.
Probably will have to wait for an RUU or custom.
I'd recommend using the GB ruu to get you back to full stock. Always found Rogers ota updates (possibly all carriers?) won't install if you're rooted or using a custom recovery.
I had to install the ruu via renaming the rom.zip to PG86IMG.zip and copying it to the sd card so that the bootloader would auto flash it. Running the ruu exe tossed up all kinds of errors.
It will put everything back to Rogers stock. After that just setup wifi and do the 2 Rogers OTA updates.
Once in ICS, it's easy peasy to get recovery and root back.
Also, for what it's worth, Go Backup is awesome for going rom to rom and not needing a full backup. Use it on rooted rom, then use it to restore after rooting new rom. Will do all your apk's and everything.
1st post here after years of lurking. Yay.

Alright thanks a lot
Just an update on what I did. I was able to reload the stock gb rom for rogers using the exe file, then I went through the 2 updates that came up when checking and ics is now up and running on my phone. However in my attempts of trying to fix the original problem, I managed to re-lock my bootloader before flashing to stock rom and I had s-on the whole time. hope this help.
i switched to stock like.. a week back?
jus got ota on 4th
i WAS rooted and using juopunutbear's hboot *u can jus get the hboot from their website*
so i jus flashed back stock recovery.. and updated.. and success.. lost root though.. and i was back to stock bootloader..
used the PG86IMG with juopunutbear's bootloader and 4ext recovery.. and flashed cwm supersu.. v0.91 i think.. i dunno.. latest one.. and bam.. im on stock.. rooted.. and works perfectly..
Possible sollution
Maybe try flashing one of the customized ROMs that are based on the latest OTA update. I'm sure Anryl's newest rom is blazing-fast and stable. You can find it in the gsm android development forum and flash it via recovery. Make sure you have the latest 4ext recovery installed, though.
where can a i find that stock rogers rom i modified mine and that might be the reason i get a security failure in hboot. s is on. when i run the ruu file in windows to downgrade i get error 155. when i run the the update from about phone. it locks up with blue android guy and yellow exclamation mark. i remove the battery and she boots fine with no changes.
I am trying to do same. Get stuck on HTC screen. I have S-ON. Was on cobra 2.4 prior.
If anyone can give details on how to fix it, it would be great! Please no saying "install exe". I need to know which exe etc.
just wanted to tell everyone that in order for the ota update to work properly, you need to be running stock unrooted firmware with a locked bootloader. Just relock your bootloader, reinstall the stock firmware, upgrade to ics via ota, then re-unlock and re-root.
Hi
I have a HTC EVO 3D from Rogers that was got messed up during changing networks... rooted the phone for no apparent reason... to now get a update for it for ics from the provider and it bricked the phone.
It's stuck at HTC boot screen, can get fastboot USB from bootloader. recovery gets a ! in a triangle and factory reset doesn't work, freezes at splash screen after restarting the phone. Was stupid not making a backup or searching for programs to back it up before I went ahead and clicked update
It has HTC boot-loader 1.49 s-on but is rooted.
I am looking for clear(fix my evo for dummies) step by step instructions with correct installation for my model of phone, HTC EVO 3D Rogers GSM, or anything that could replace the os to get my phone to be useful again I'm currently using my backup phone a HTC G1 HTC ftw
Try kingcobra's rom, ota from rogers will not boot due to the fact that your phone is rooted, kingcobra's rom is based on rogers ota, flash it and leave it.

Go to the gsm development forum and download the RUU for the phone, and restore it to stock unrooted OS. Before you do that though, make sure that your phone's BOOTLOADER IS LOCKED. Look up how to re-lock your bootloader. After you relock your bootloader, you can proceed with restoring the phone.
Soooo.... basically, what I'm getting from this is, if you like having a locked bootloader, CWM and root, don't bother trying to install this OTA update because it's a headache. Agree?
The phone's not mine, it's my wife's, and she doesn't want anything special or like the idea of me messing around in her phone.
I was about to install this late last night, just about to hit that button, then I thought, "what about the bootloader? what about root? what about the fact that it's now unlocked and being used on a carrier other than Rogers?"
I have The sprint CDMA EVO 3D it was running the latest version of gingerbread and i had the bootloader unlocked running Hboot 1.50. I had team win recover version 2.0 installed as my recovery on the phone. All of the rest on the phone was all left at stock so there were no extra roms, it was the original HTC rom on the phone. So i was trying to flash the update through Teamwin 2.0 and it gave an error message after it unpacked everything saying "E: unknown command [firmware]". So i rebboted the system and now it will not even go past the HTC bootloader but it will still boot into fastboot and recovery. Is there anything i can do to get my phone back or what should i do!?!? Thanks for all your help!

I really don't know how else to say this, DON'T TAKE OTA'S IF YOU'RE ROOTED! OR UNLOCKED! lmao. you need to download the CD. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1563342
Since you can get into recovery, try flashing a different rooted ROM.
Save the Drama for your Mama with Tapatalk 2
If you can't get into fastboot or recovery, then I think your on your way to a sticky at the top of the development thread about being able to recover your phone.
I would also remove the battery for 10 min, hold down the power button. Reinsert battery, try to get into hboot and recovery and flash a backup.
Hey there guys, this might be one of the most bizarre issues i ever faced with this phone.
HTC EVO 3D GSM
1.53 Hboot
S-ON [Was S-OFF]
The issue is , The phone crashes on the Bootanimation , it boots then when the boot animation comes, or usually after 1 or 3 seconds after the splash screen, the phone just shuts down
Tried all possible fixes , including RUUs kernels , recovery , most custom roms , Nothing , still crashes on the same exact spot.
The phone was S-OFF so i figured to try to put it to S-ON using Write secureflag 3 (well i only did that because i got hopeless)
And it is now S-ON
I can flash recoveries , Boot images , even unlock it via HTCDev , But i can,t get it to boot.
And sometimes when i wipe the phone in recovery , sometimes DATA partition fails to mount , Could it be that the partitions are damaged ?
And is there a way to fix that ? or Heck , is there is a way to use my External SDCARD as the Data location ? or use it to boot the rom ? Or anything !
My Phone was stuck in this issue for over 8 months now , it is just sitting there collecting dust , but i figured why not to give it another go ?
So if anyone know something or have an idea what that could be, please share it with me. Thanks in advance
And btw , I don,t have any problems bricking the phone if needed , I thought about bricking it and trying the UNBRICK project, but i don,t think that will do any help
If i had to convert my phone Hboot to CDMA , i will do it , i just want this thing to boot up ! , I remember i read a thread about someone flashing a CDMA Hboot on his phone by mistake , well maybe i will do that "Mistake"
Thanks in advance i hope i hear from someone
Have tried ruu stock? ruu I mean exe file from htc that will write stock partitions. I know these are getting harder to find out there. I don't think cdma version of ruu is downloadable anymore.
Would try to dd zero data partition. I dont know the partition number.
dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/block/mmcblk0pXX
Than I would format data partition.
I would also delete bootanimation.zip, just use android default animation
You can eventually modify boot.img in order to use partitions on sdcard, there's a nice tutorial, search for "multi boot on almost every device" or something similar!
Hi everyone,
I"m using ShooterU with s-off revolutionary,
hboot version is 1.49.1107, radio 11.25.3504.06_M
opendsp (if needed) is on version 02.6.0.2226.00.0202
I have 4ext version 1.0.0.6 rc6, build 8
Well, my problem is that I can"t install anything on recovery, everything what I want to install just freezes when it begins to install new system partition, I also cannot format this partition, I don"t remember if 4ext uses the kernel from actual rom or if it has an independent one ....
Well, tried fastboot already with Philz recovery and original TWRP recovery, but it just returns a error message: "FAILED <remote: image update recovery error>"
Tried everything, 4ext is also freezing if it just displays the available partitions on an infoscreen on my phone...I really don"t know what happened, it worked for years, but since I"ve got myself a new digitizer because the old one was broken, the phone got a bootloop (I don"t thing it is a hardware problem, I remember some weird bugs on rom yas v11, but I could get rid of it just by simply reinstalling the rom using recovery), so I just wanted to install my old ROMs which worked in the past, which also are on my old sdcard, yas11, yas12 beta 8 and also coolics I think, all using AROMAInstaller....they just freeze if I attempt to install a new rom....already tried to format the partitions on 4ext itself with ext4 filesystem and also tried permssions repair, but it just freezes on system partition...
Please, help me out, if it doesn"t work out, I have to install original RUU and it would be a shame, because it would be really a bad downgrade with big disadvantages...and I really don"t remember how to get s-off and revolutionary doesn"t exist anymore and I also know that there are some problems with hboot 1.50...and HTC dev s-off is also not an option, because of locked boot partition ... I don"t remember, it is some time ago I used my phone, it was in my drawer for about 2 years, now the hardware is repaired and has a new battery..
Please, I really don"t know what happened, I just want to use my phone, I really need it.
I would be really glad, if someone could help me out.

You can run a RUU without any problems. It won't afect security flag (your phone will remain s-off after RUU flash) after that you can upgrade your firmware as you see fit

Hi, I'm the thread starter, the first nickname is my cousin, I had his notebook in the reach of my hands
We already tested to install original RUU, but it failed, it doesn't install anything, because it makes no progress after first reboot with openend RUU...should I install a new hboot somehow or what should I do?
I try to use this debrick-thing for which I have to use Linux....or shouldn't I?

How exactly did you install the RUU?
I just rebooted the phone to hboot and simply started the RUU , following the requests from itself...when it said it reboots the phone, the phone reboots, but it doesn't get past "waiting for bootloader" ...maybe I have done a mistake, because I relocked the revolutionary hboot to do a RUU, because I thought it wouldnt work without relocking, but I don't have set the securewriteflag-3 (sorry for spell mistakes)
I didn't touched the phone since starting this thread, but I have now a working notebook to do some work on my phone instead of using my cousin's notebook , so I can reply faster .
Thank you very much for replying, you sure know, that there aren't many active users, who still use this phone
