White S2, painfully slow 3G - Black S2 ok? - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I've had a Black S2 on Vodafone contract for about a year now, no problems, running the latest 4.03 Vodafone rom.
Just bought a white S2 for my other half, unlocked and it's running the 4.04 rom now. I bought it from a friend, it's about a year old and is in mint condition, he never noticed a problem with 3G, but didn't have anything to compare it against. Comparing both phones 3G speed sat next to each other shows the white one to be painfully slow, and in some areas it doesn't seem to get the 3G reception as good as the black phone.
I've searched the forum and can't see any obvious problems - there was a previous modem issue which has since been resolved, I'm about to do a factory reset in case there's anything lurking from a previous update - I'll report back once done.
Any other suggestions are welcome

What's your and her modem?

Hard factory reset made no difference - time for some more googling, then contact Samsung I fear.

How do I find that info?
Thanks

Aha, found it - Looks like mine is BULP7 and hers is XXLQ6, does that mean anything to you?

Yes, that they are obviously different and it seems the latest LQ6 isn't working well at your area. Flash her same as you have.

Can I just flash the modem or do I need to flash the whole rom?
And if you can point me in the right direction of how to do this - thanks

Yes, you can just flash modem only. You can start reading here eg. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1277593

I've installed the speedtest app on both, as well as the network signal info app. Oddly the white phone's results are slightly better than the black phone's, but it seems to be how the phone is then using the data that's slowing things down - does that still point to the modem?

I would say yes. Give it a try and remember that it takes few days for the modem to settle down.

Official ICS S2X Telus Modem

Found this modem over at the tmo s2 forum as official ICS just got released for the S2X, been playing around with it a bit, I've got it to work all though data hasn't been consistent may just need to be flashed over a fresh rom or something, thought I would post in case anyone wants to play around with it. the S2X is 42+ dc-hspa phone so not sure it would work with LTE but I'm not in an area with LTE so was hoping to get some better hspa speeds, anyways here it is

glad it worked for you! seems like it could be a potentially solid modem I only played around with it for a short while but going to try it out again soon, anyone else who's tried it post your experiences
This modem may need some tweaking before it's ready for all I had major device lag issues with this made my phone near unusable not to mention the strange glitching around my screen border. Back to ics blaze for now.

[Q] Best Vodafone UK modem?

What's your experiences with modems in the UK? I'm on Vodafone and not getting great reception and more often than not stuck on 2G which kinda sucks.
Any advice?
I'm on Omega ROM and just flashed LF5 which has probably been the worst modem of the lot.
Thanks
Dxlea is doing the business for me squire however... im tmobile

this says more about voda's 3g coverage to be honest, i havenever had good 3g coverage on voda, then again i have never had what i call good 3g on any phone i have had. Things may improve now the are partnering with 02, network coverage will be doubled in some areas.
I've currently got DXLEA modem. It's nothing special, I get OK signal but hardly ever get above G in terms of network speed
Was fine in my Galaxy S, seems to have gone downhill since I got the S3. I also got it replaced because of pink tint, but the network speed was the same on both handsets
Nele4 that what I'm using on o2 signal is rubbish on the s3 vs s2

XSK country code

Hi. Trying all day to find what is XSK csc but find nothing. Some peoples told it's Slovakia unbranded . (But stone people's says for Slovakia unbranded firmware it is ORS ...) so she is truth? Anyone know? Thank you.
Odoslané z GT-I9300 cez Tapatalk 2
Ok. Found it. People on our forums says XSK is for not branded Slovakia phones an ORS for Slovakia branded phones by Orange.

[Q] Wanted to join the ZU club but....

I purchased a used ZU c6806 for ATT off of swappa. Right off the bat I could not get cell network to connect for voice. I'm coming from an ATT note 3 FYI. Well, I called ATT to see if I needed to do anything to make the change but they said I could just insert the SIM from the Note 3 and I would get voice(at least.) It still gave a fit and it was getting late so I put it aside. Later the next day I tried again and it worked, so I thought. Went a day using it and I lost cell signal and could not get it back. Is there something here that I am missing that I could try to regain signal? The phone sees that there is no SIM inserted and knows when one is inserted. Could there just be bum radios on this unit? In the mean time I updated to 757 from 4.2.2 with no change in the no signal issue. I see in the older firmware the network operators can be chosen but on kit kat I don't have that option in the menu.
thanks,
Tom

There has been one or two people that have has a loose antenna in their ZU, only way to tell is to take the back off. Maybe that is why the last owner was selling?

Not with Sony tools, but you can with flashtool and FTF's. But 757 is much better (fewer bugs) than 681.

Gear s live demo unit

Hi guys I've been offered one of these , can I flash a stock firmware and gain all functionality apart from 3g? So basically I would end up with Bluetooth/WiFi gear s.
Any thoughts appreciated.

Maybe depending on the model number 9 have slight experience with this actually. There is a WiFi variant of the gear s most people don't talk about
