How to modify Trebuchet launcher to be standalone app? - Android

Hi, I've compiled Trebuchet launcher from CyanogenMod 9, and trying to install it with adb:
PHP:
$ adb install out/target/product/generic/system/app/Trebuchet.apk
3986 KB/s (7870141 bytes in 1.928s)
pkg: /data/local/tmp/Trebuchet.apk
Failure [INSTALL_FAILED_UPDATE_INCOMPATIBLE]
I tried on Nexus S with CM9 and Galaxy Nexus with stock JB. Why I'm getting this error?
P.S. I know, it should be placed to /system/app, but I want to make it to be installable as usual apk.

You are receiving this error because there was a previously installed app with the same name but different signature. Rename trebuchet to a unique package name. Then the app should install given proper SDK requirements are set.
TL;DR: Change the package name.

[Q] Force install an app?

Recently I installed the Eternity 2 build003a Rom and it removed the Backup and Restore app. The problem is my most recent (and most important backup) is saved with that app. I tried reinstalling the app with root explorer, package installer, ADB shell but it won't let me install it. With the package installer it keeps saying "Application not installed!" and with the ADB shell it gives me this error:
C:\Android\Tools>adb install -r Backupandrestore.apk
486 KB/s (2386714 bytes in 4.794s)
pkg: /data/local/tmp/Backupandrestore.apk
Failure [INSTALL_FAILED_UPDATE_INCOMPATIBLE]
I downloaded the APK from the Sony website so it should be compatible. I would like to know is there a way of forcefully installing an app? If not is there any other apps out there that can use the stock backup and restore app files to restore the phones data?
if u had the apk file, try using side loaded to install it. google search :
Android Central Sideload Wonder Machine 1.0
after u successfully implemented the sideload machine, thick the Update existing app

Asus boot logo after Wipe no Launcher :(

Hi all,
happened to me a mishap.
I had done a full wipe but forgot to push the stock launcher back on it, well now the launcher is missing and I can not do anything.
Would have otherwise update the Asus HC recorded but do not know how that should go without Launcher
Who has an advice what I could do?
sorry, trying to understand...
Had you done some sort of modification that removed the stock launcher? There isn't any reason why the stock launcher wouldn't be present. Can you try another factory reset using vol up + power? i don't recall exactly what the sequence is.
Its ok,
my english is not the best.
I delete the stock launcher with a script and forgot to restore it.
And then i do a factory resett..........
No Launcher anymore.........
A Androiddevice without an launcher become a bootloop or something similar
Did you uninstall the APK "launcher2.apk" and it's odex "launcher2.odex"?
I made that mistake and what i had to do was use ADB to install a 3rd party launcher (I found an APK for launcher pro and used that) and then once I had a working launcher, I downloaded Root explorer (I was rooted) and moved the "Launcher2.apk" and "launcher2.odex" into the /system/app folder. From there, I rebooted and everything was gravy
It is essential to include both the .apk and the .odex. Also, you have to have the files from the same build version you are. (You can't use an odex from 8.8.3.29 on a tablet running 8.8.3.33)
does ADB see your device? If so maybe you can push launcher API back to /system/app then set the permissions and you should be all set.

cooper1988, what you have to do is download a new launcher in your pc, put it in your sd card and apply it with the recovery mode in "apply any zip from sd".

prime doesnt have a recovery (locked bootloader)
Power + Vol D --> Wipe or boot Android
well, then you might try flashing a new rom. sorry but if your pad doesnt have recovery, the it is the only way i see.

won't it try to flash whatever image is on the sd card with that combo, effectively a hard reset?
Year
ADB show my device.
But i cant push the apk to /system/app or /data/app
failed to copy 'launcher.apk' to '/data/app/launcher.apk': Permission denied
a hard reset is not useful in this case because the launcher in not in the system folder anymore. he have to flash the pad with odin or any other method alike.

I believe you have to mount /system in order to do that push
c:\android-sdk\platform-tools>adb shell mount /system
mount: permission denied
i dont have root on the prime and nachoroot doesnt work ( i have hc)
c:\android-sdk\platform-tools>adb push nachoroot.bin /data/local/
1140 KB/s (15182 bytes in 0.013s)
c:\android-sdk\platform-tools>adb shell chmod 777 /data/local/nachoroot.bin
chmod: permission denied
a hard reset wont do anything

a hard reset wont do anything, because it restores all by default, but, if the launcher isn't in the system folder, the phone wont make it appear from nowhere.
he should flash a new rom using odin or some other tools alike.
I am in a similar situation I am stuck in a boot loop! Not able to get passed the asus logo loading sign!
I can not get in ADB because of dumb asus sync I still need to try using ADB on linux! Because that does not need the asus sync

Well idrk either the system apps I froze or the changing the build.prop (added enable. Facelock) but even after I had done that I had rebooted Atleast twice
But maybe it only checks those things on a kernel panic

before you did factory reset , u removed the launch apk right ? so you had root before you did factory reset , you should still have it now , because factory wipe does not remove root.

Hello! There is a simple method to root the Fujitsu Arrow F02E. I also own one and rooted OK!
- First, install its ADB USB Driver here: http://spf.fmworld.net/oss/driver/f-02e/data/download.html
If youre using windows8, it may block installing unsigned driver, then just restart with troubleshooting option and "Disable Driver Signature Enforcement". You'll be able to install the driver normally
- Download this: http://www.mediafire.com/download/3o5bdwl64lz6r66
It may contain Japanese characters in file name, you should rename it to something easier to understand. Unzip it, then plug in your F02E, run the file "runme.bat". If you install ADB driver correctly, runme.bat will find your device and starts to root it. All you have to do is press any key when it requires. (about 2 times) Goodluck! :good:
Thanks mate, I really appreciate your effort. It works and I have done on my handset. I also like to ask if anyone install custom ROM on Fujitsu Arrows X F-02E?:good:

[Q] adb push in recovery

I am testing to make sure I can push files into my device when in recovery.
I was able to successfully push a file when the device is up with adb push test.txt /sdcard/ROMS
It was there and able to open
Now in Recovery (New file test1.txt)
adb devices showed my device in recovery
I entered adb push test1.txt /sdcard/ROMS
adb shows it completed successfully but I do not see the file once I boot back into my OS.
What am I missing?
that is odd you should now see your file. what program did you use to make the file?
is the file perchance in a 0 folder in sdcard0?
Try adb push test.txt /sdcard/ROMS/test.txt
Hope that helps.

I used notepad to make the file. The file isn't anywhere else. I have even done a search. And I tried putting the name of the file at the end of the command. I'll try again in a bit.

you've likely installed a 4.2 based rom recently (like cm10.1). these virtual paths get all jacked up when you do that, especially in recovery.
A few options
1.) don't do that
2.) push things to /data/local/tmp/ instead
3.) push things to /data/media/ instead

Thanks. I will look into the other two options. I had a feeling that may have been it, but no grounds for why. I have a 4.2 rom installed and I'm prepping to format my sdcard because I have crazy loads of old data that I don't need and don't know what is what, so I'm going to format insternal SD and push the backup of my current rom back in. I'm using 6.xGb of the space already. No good.

So I pushed the test txt file to the specified locations. My struggle is that on the phone with the native file manager I can't access the data folder, though I have it root access. I downloaded Astro and it shows there are no contents (with show hidden contents selected).
So my thought is what am I doing wrong or what can I do?
Sideload?
So. If I so desired. I could wipe my internal memory, and sideload the install of the OS, or a backup?
You could but you might need to ruu first if you do that, I'm not sure as recovery stuff is in your internal storage like database files. It might just recreate those though.
