SCH-I905 root - Galaxy Tab 10.1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I've attempted to follow http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1444714 but there are missing files rendering it rather useless, is Root development for the SCH-i905 dead? I've ooted with other root guides but lost Wifi/4g which renders the tablet rather useless.
I am currently on
3.2
kernel version 2.6.36.3 [email protected] #1
Baseband Version i905.02 V.FE01
I would really love some direction in rooting, etc.

[Q] root

I am new to the Android scene (previously I had Iphones) and I recently bought a Galaxy S2.
I am having some problems where my phone is utilizing my data plan without my knowledge.
I have read that one of the culprit aps is Ap Mobile and the only way to remove it is by first rooting the phone.
I have read a lot of treads and it is still confusing with all the different kernels, basebands etc…
I have 2 questions requests:
1- My phone has Model number: GT-I9100, Android version: 2.3.3 (updated by KIES yesterday), Baseband version: I9100XXKG5, Kernel version: 2.6.35.7-I9100JPKH1-CL453266 [email protected]#2, Build number: GINGERBREAD.JPKH1
I would be very grateful if somebody could post clear instructions as to how to root the phone.
2- there are so many different Kernels, and some of them show android version 2.3.4 or 2.3.5. Can I update to the Firmwares\Kernels from my phone, if so, how?
I shall thank in advance anyone who are willing to help me with my questions
this thread is for updating your firmware and rooting
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1075278
if you use data for a specific time like me
P.S you can turn off data settings>wireless and network>mobile networks
Please use the Q&A Forum for questions Thanks
Moving to Q&A
I want to have data on all the time because I have my work mail setup.
My data plan is 250 Mb and I only utilize it to access my work mail, it was never an issue on the Iphone, but on the galaxy my data plan was used in a couple of days.

[Q] GT-i900G root guide?

Hi there (topic should say GT-i9100G)
Been searching for days to find a way to root my GT-i9100G model. I found plenty for previous builds of my kernel but nothing for this current one.
So I'm at the end of my wits and for the first time in years I'm turning to creating a thread on a forum, getting ready for the flame.
kernel: 2.6.35.7 DELL165 dpi @ # 2
Android version: 2.3.6
Build number is: GINGERBREAD.XXLA1
Baseband version: I9100GXXKL4
I had a i900 from work but after it broke my work phone was replaced with this model and I'm sick of not being able to run ICS on it.
Anyways, wanna get CWM on it, but I'm very green at the whole custom ROM scene, only thing I ever rooted was my 10.1 tab with Odin to flash AOKP's builds :\
Anyways, if anyone has any tip, don't be shy.

You DID mean GT-i9100G, right?
Need to know more, anyways. Build number?
Use super one click
Yes of course, silly me, GT-i9100G is my phone.
Build number is: GINGERBREAD.XXLA1
Baseband version: I9100GXXKL4
I've read others talk about super one click, the reports were very mixed and I think this build will not work, or am I wrong?

I believe SuperOneClick requires an insecure kernel to be flashed to your phone first before using it, right? You just have to make sure the insecure kernel is for the I9100G, and not the I9100. And if you cannot find an exact match for your kernel version for an insecure kernel, you will need a copy of your secure kernel to flash back when you're done rooting.
I'm afraid I don't know where to get these things for an I9100G, however, so you're on your own to look for them. (unless someone who knows this information sees this post and is kind enough to post it to you)
EDIT to add: that said, I've heard of a few custom kernels for the I9100G that, when flashed, will root your phone for you. I don't remember what they are though, you'll have to search for them.
EDIT 2: Found one (superatmos) that has a version compatible with your build.

[Q] Rooting Vodafone SII GT-I9100

I have a Samsung Galaxy S2 GT-I9100 from vodafone. Here are the specs:
Android ver:4.0.3
Baseband:I9100BULP6
Kernel:3.0.15-I9100BULPC-CL332484 [email protected] #3
Build nr:IML74K.BULPC
CSC:I9100VODLP8
Now running on AT&T
I want to root this phone while maintaining the stock firmware or something better. Could some help me out I can't seem to find the right kernel to use. I appreciate it (p.s I did like to unroot at a later stage).
thanx
Since you're on ICS, just use this. No kernel flashing required.
There's a pretty good guide right here:
Your kernel: 3.0.15-I9100BULPC
Look for the LPC zip file in that thread, that is the kernel you need, be sure to read the guide well.
Good luck.

Thank you for the link. I tried it out and it worked out well for me.
Hi,
I have the exact same phone as the OP:
PDA: i9100BULPC
Phone: i9100BULP6
CSC: i9100VODLP8
I've been trying to root my phone to install a custom ROM on my phone for the last few hours but I keep hitting hitches.
I've tried using the customer kernel posted by nawrejin on this thread, but when I boot up my wifi won't work (stuck on authenticating/obtaining IP); that aside I also have a problem with CWM ('cwm manager needs superuser access')?
If I flash the stock kernel for my build then the wifi problem resolves itself, but returns to being unrooted. I don't have a mini SD card so can't use the solution proposed by ctomgee (rooting without kernel flashing).
Can anyone propose a workaround or solution? I've been trying all night now with no success. And I am a newbie noob noob .
Thanks for any input,
Will
Buy an sd card for a couple bucks.
Try to get the sd card. I I hae found this method very effective. When done you could download neat rom lite by Sale and watch your phone fly.

Galaxy S 2 - stock Android 4.0.3 - need root please

Hi everyone!
I've got Android 4.0.3 (stock) on my Galaxy S2, hurray!
Now I'd like to root my device. Can somebody point me to a correct procedure for doing this for my Android version?
My details are:
Android Version: 4.0.3
Baseband version: I9100BVLPB
Kernel version: 3.0.15-I9100BVLPB-CL310231 [email protected] #3
Build number: IML74K.BVLPB
Thank you all!!!
Either use cfroot or
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1501719
Thank you. I'm afraid not to brick my phone, so link provided would fit my Android version and stuff?

Yes its safe and works in all stock ics roms. But you need micro sdcard for it. And the temp cwm you will get is touch version.
By the way the link to CF-Root post is:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1103399
But plz make sure you read all of the instructions properly in order to avoid problems.

- Thanks -

You'd probably be slaughtered alive for posting this question. This is xda, mate. Search, read and try before posting questions. And even if you do have to post a question, find the correct thread for doing so.
Since you asked, look through this thread for all your rooting requirements. Me and probably a million others like you have read that and then managed to root their phones following the steps mentioned there.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1103399
Dont forget to thank the contributor.
Yours being 4.0.4 theres a problem with an EMMC bug bricking the phone. again, read the forums thoroughly before going ahead.
Just flash a pre-rooted kernel.
I guess there is a thread discussing about rooting.

***** PLEASE read this important information*****
-You are running stock 4.0.4 ROM which it's known to have brick bug on it's kernel.
-after rooting, DO NOT factory reset/data or restore any backup without changing your kernel to custom one. Siyah, Dorimanx, Dream, and Speedmod kernels are known to be safe.
-You must change your kernel after rooting. It's better to be safe than sorry
****How To ROOT*****

I have the same setup as you so I think you can look into my thread which i started yesterday and Jokesy took the time and answered all my questions there including linking to a guide (thank you Jokesy, fantastic). I did not use Odin, but i used CWM Recovery Touch.
After following Jokesy link i rooted my phone, i installed the latest siyah S2 kernel (no beta), i also installed Titanium backup and purchased the PRO key. After that i followed an external link of services and programs that i could safely freeze/delete.
It shall be said that i have been using SGS2 since last spring/summer and this was my first time modifying anything with the phone.
Here is my thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1841641
Frank
For simplest root just use method 1 from 1st guide in my signature. No CF-Root, no CWM needed. Just copy one file to external SD card and update from stock recovery.
- Thanks for the contributions... - there's a lot to take in -
- This 'Bricking Bug' is something of a concern... - so I'll be doing some more reading before I choose whether to proceed with rooting my SGS2 -
- Hopefully things will be simpler with the Nexus 7... -
- Understanding the various versions, terminology & methods etc. is giving me something of a head-ache today -
- But thanks again... -

different basband?
Hello devs,
I ran into a problem few hours ago and I am trying to work my way around and through it. I honestly did, I have already lost patience and feel like quitting life itself. I wiped my phone, installed a different BOOTLOADER, different MODEM, different CODE and different CSC. I did all this to install a new ROM, I didn't like the changes so I went for my backup and restored it. Everything was successful, except that the Baseband version hasn't changed at all.
What is a baseband? Does it matter if I installed a different one (it is supposed to be XXLPS-I9100)?
Thanks
Baseband and modem are pretty much the same thing mate. You don't need to have a particular one. If you find your signal isn't as good as it should/used to be, you can change your baseband at a later stage. It doesn't matter if you stick to the one you have. It won't spring up at night and chop your phone into two bits
