Google Maps 6.10 - Wildfire Themes and Apps

Recently Google has released Google Maps 6.10, some elements such as Layers and Streetview should be accesible through some buttons that are displayed on screen; the problem is that in Wildfire these buttons are not shown and it is not possible to choose what layers to be shown; I have tried in my wife's phone, that has installed CM7 as in my Wildfire, and it works properly, I think that it could be something related to screen resolution. I have tried with previous Maps version (6.9.2) and it has the same problem.
Am I the only one with this problem?

i have the same problem

I don't use Google maps anymore but have you tried rotating the screen into landscape.

no, you're not the only one. They seem to have changed the UI for LDPI (or just forgot to update). I remember that layers could be chosen from settings - but that seem to be gone now. If I have some time I'll look for an older backup to doublecheck.

unfortunately that doesn't help - it's not just a resolution problem (in case they've not excluded MDPI also lol)

... options are indeed all there now, but programme no longer usable on my Wildfire. Although latest version means has stopped it crashing after about an hour or so's use, it still fills spare internal memory entirely in the process. Mine went from 43% free to 14% free after a single journey's navigation. Have everything I can on SD card (I'm not rooted), regularly clean cache and do all the recommended things ...but 0% free means phone that can't do anything yet another hard reset and reinstall. Used to use the programme several times a week, over the period of 18 months or so that I've had the phone, but now it's worse than useless. Anyone else with the same problem or - even better - a solution which doesn't involve resets/reinstalls and a lot of rude words?!?

I just noticed that you can't disable caching completely (what I thought) - however you can clear the cache in settings. I believe there's not much more you could do - as long as you don't want to get s-off and root your Willy. In that case you have the possibility either to put your apps onto an extern partition - what is much different from putting them on SD (because now you are starting the apps from a FAT32 partiton which slows down the system a lot) - or - even better - you could re-partition your Willy. Why's that? Half of the 512MB ROM image of our Wildfire (250MB) is used as system partition. You won't find any ROM that really needs that much space (although sense ROMs will need a lot more than AOSP ROMs) plus 40MB are reserved as cache partition - leaves you with 183MB for data (user apps and data) which isn't really much.
With most AOSP ROMs you could resize the system partition a lot. With CyanogenMod 7 ROMs you could even resize the cache partition (because the system will use the space of the data partition as cache). My data partition now is around 320MB...
You could follow the link to custom mtd partitions in my sig, it's explained well by 3xeno

Laggy response?

I've had my Photon since last October, and have been thoroughly enjoying my phone. I keep my phone locked (for the 4g) but rooted so I have more flexibility. I have been noticing a slowdown in overall effectiveness when using apps on the phone, such as hitting the button in gmail to change accounts, and the button lights up for a few seconds then finally prompts me for the new account. Have had persistent issues with my cardock and bluetooth
Also have consistently been having issues where a program thrown into the background is immediately killed.
I've messed around with the Overcharge script in the past (maybe that did something), I've used motomizer, Loki's de-blur script. I've also added the modified app widget picker and removed a few Blur items.
I decided to sbf to 198_7 and start over from scratch, I've only installed a few new programs (google Reader, TB, Rom toolbox, Solid file Explorer, ES File explorer) and uninstalled the Sprint apps that are easy to remove (Nascar, Telenav, etc). My BT headset works while the phone is in the cardock now (yay) but I am still having the slow / laggy response in the UI.
A good example of the lag is when I unlock the phone. Remember, at this point I am near total stock, only with root. When I slide to unlock from the screen, there is a noticable delay before I get the homescreen. I watched one of qbking77's videos about restoring via SBF last night and on his demo, when he would unlock his photon it would "immediately" show the homescreen.
TLDR: Is it possible to have a problem re: performance separate from the image on the phone, something in the hardware. Totally subjective but something doesn't seem right and I've reset it as much as I can.
One of the big issues is we don't have a really good wiping mechanism so even if you and and factory reset stuff can still hang around.
Sent from my mopho
So a factory reset followed by an SBF isn't completely clean? Well, that blows.
yes I have files from Feb and I've gone from cm7 to cm9 to stock and back again wiping every time. I want to try that wipe all zip.

When you say you have files left, are you refering to files left in the / or on your sd card? I assume the former, but I want to make sure I am clear in my understanding.

The wipe all zip should do nothing more than can be done in recovery. Just packaged so the process is faster.
I'm not entirely sure about the Photon CWM recovery versions but they have been known to not wipe properly so the process should be done numerous times. Maybe using recovery and then the wipe all zip.
Always a good idea after flashing a few roms to go in and format all sd storage as well. A lot of android apps do not uninstall completely which drives me nuts. I suppose a cluttered directory structure could create some slowdown as well (although probably not noticable).
I have to say I wish my Photon was as speedy as the IPhone when zooming around the interface. I like to run a decent amount of widgets and those really start to slow things down depending on the launcher used.

hi
it seems to be not a software problem. I've thought too that it is software, tried 'process killers' without any result, flashed stock 2.3.4, hybrid cm7 2.3.5, now i'm on jokersax's cm9 beta 0.6.1 - my problem is the same - touchscreen becomes very laggy without any reason, it 'wakes' only after pressing power button one to few times.
Here seems to be the same problem http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1265289

[Q] Apps disappear / uninstall by themselves.

I have no idea what could be causing this. I've never heard of anything like it, and I have yet to find any posts or anything on Google pertaining to it. The problem is simple. I install an app or game. Play or use it. Go do something else for 20 minutes to an hour come back expecting to use said app, and its gone. Its not in the launcher or manage apps, and play store acts as if it wasn't yet installed. I can go to market again to install it but that's just bothersome. I'm on an 8gb nook tab running an emmc install of cm10, looks like its the 2012-9-3 acclaim build according to about tab. Other than that I'm not sure which ROM exactly.
Any thoughts would be awesome.

I only downloaded this ROM about four days ago. That combined with the fact that that was my second post on xda, it wouldn't be far fetched to assume I didn't know there was an updated version. May I ask what your recommendation of most stable cm10 ROM would be?

Is there a "place holder" icon in place of the disappeared app? (home screen and app drawer, either or both) Would appear as a generic android icon.
Also, what apps are disappearing specifically?

When Ext-Sd card auto unmounts (known bug) everything installed on it (because ext-sdcard are default one /sdcard1) is then shown as a green android without their normal icon.
I've been having this issue as well with Business Calendar Pro. It isn't installed to the SDCARD. I haven't had the problem with the latest version of the ROM though.

I can't compare it to stock or CM7, though -- I haven't run either stock or CM7 since April or so. It does seem to suck the battery down much faster than Chris' CM10, though. To deal with that, I've been doing a full power-off (long press and select "Power Off") instead of a soft power-off when I know I won't be using the tablet for a while.

Almost any app. Here's an updated play by play.
Install app. App can be used.
After a while it disappears.
Can reinstall and use again.
Usually disappears again.
If tab is rebooted apps reappear. Icon and all.
If you attempt to open they force close. I don't remember the error message.
This mostly happens on large apps or games.
I'm gonna attempt to update my ROM and see if it still has the same problems.
Updated to the latest cherry picks ROM. I wiped and cleared everything. Same problem. Same symptoms. Any thoughts on causes and possible solutions? Or is this just a bug with the ROM?

I've experienced a similar issue, and it appears to be the result of the SD card getting (forcibly?) unmounted while sleeping. I have no idea how to prevent it other than moving all apps to internal storage if possible. Maybe ensuring that any apps the rely on storing data on the SD card are terminated before sleeping?
FWIW, I've had the same thing happen in the past with the stock BN ROM so it wasn't a huge surprise to me when it happened running CM10.

Okay, so the exact same thing happened that the OP described to me this morning on 27/09. I had moved several apps to the SD card and then when I came back to my Nook about a half-hour later, all those apps showed as Android icons and could not be launched. Rebooting made it possible to launch the apps again and brought back the normal icons.
Update: Perhaps it's coincidence but it seems that whenever I manually disable WiFi before sleeping my Nook (running 27/09 here), then everything is fine. However, if I forget to disable WiFi, then for some reason the SD has a chance to be unmounted while sleeping which requires me to re-install any apps that are installed on the SD card or that depend on the SD card for normal use.
I'm also thinking that maybe it doesn't have anything at all to do with WiFi being enabled, but instead perhaps it's just having apps running that depend on the SD when the unit sleeps (such as XDA premium which I've had to re-install several times over the last couple of days ) .
In all, it seems like a really vague and random issue that occurs and reiterating my previous posts, I've seen the SD card get unmounted using the original ROM so I'm just not sure what the deal is here.
I have a problem, with my tablet. I found that 3 of my favour apps has disappeared from my apps list and tablet . I don,'t uninstalled it. What can I do to recover an install it again. When I go in my Googly Store my apps list The 3 apps that is disappeared is not listed there. The 3 apps thats is disappeared is Mxit beta, Google translate and Opera Mini web browser. Is there anything I can do to find this disappered apps on my MTN Steppa 7" Tablet. Finally When I try to download a app from the webside or google play store it shows dowloading by don,t stop the download arrow flashing on and on even when I swiched off the mobile data it still shows downloading but nothing stops. When Switched on the Mini data the the download app is Queued. What can I do to stopit and removed it.
i hope really that you can help mevwhit this problem.

Weird issue with Settings / Applications Manager

I have tried most of the JB Roms for the Galaxy S3, trying to see what would bother me less in every rom as a missing or not working feature.
I am facing the same problem with almost all roms (but not with all).
As soon as I bring back my applications and data through Titanium backup (never restoring the system files of course) then when I go to Settings/Applications Manager and try to scroll through the installed applications it always freezes and I get the message "Unfortunately, Settings has Stopped" and I get back to home screen.
As I said I did not had the problem only with a couple of roms (not remembering which ones though) but having it most of those I flashed.
All the roms have always been flashed on totally blank mediums since I have always used full wipes (tried to reflash a couple of them on top just to see if this would fix the problem but it did not)
Note that all applications do scroll normally and very fast in other programs also listing the installed applications, either through Titanium Backup or even in the drawer where all apps literally fly when scrolling.
Any help or advice would be greatly.
Does it work ok before you restore apps from Titanium Backup? If it does, try just restoring the apps one at a time and testing after each one. I suspect there's a duff application in there that's been restored, and that's causing the problem
Alternatively just reinstall the apps from the Play Store rather than using TB.
Thank you anthropolyte, man you are fast.
Thought of many things related to JB (because up until v4.0.4 I did not have this issue with - almost - the same applications installed) but I did not think for a moment that a specific application could be the issue. I will re-flash the rom later today and try it your way.
I will report back in case someone faces the same issue.
You're welcome - good luck!
Dear jsfero, did you manage to solve that problem? I'm just facing the same. Firstly I thought it was due to blackm* app but after uninstall it nothing changed. Then I thought it may have to do with apps in drawer showing the same name. Then I kept one and uninstalled the other. Nothing changed. I'm just a bit bored with this situation. My only difference is that I occurred to me also with ICS, not only with JB or CM10.
Could you provide me with some light about this issue?
Many thanks in advance.

Unfortunately, after having tried almost everything from re-flashing to re-downloading all my apps, I could not manage to find out the source of this problem.
It is only just by accident that I found out that a couple of ROMs are not causing any problem and the phone works perfectly well. The one I do remember and I do use now as my main daily usage ROM is the one from Sotmax.
Now, I don't know if this problem is the outcome of a 'bad' combination or bad coexistence of certain programs from kernel or Rom, all I know is that my exact same Titanium back with over 300 apps is the same one I tried on all the Roms so I doubt that the problem is coming the applications side. It was always as if the amount of applications / data was too high for the Roms to handle and crashed the application. And all the sudden one day, I simply realized that with Sotmax's Rom and same applications installed via Titanium did not cause any problem or malfunction.
I even changed kernels, from stock to Siyah and now Perseus, the problem seems to be gone for good with this Rom. I am sure that I must have found a one or two other Roms which did not cause the problem either, unfortunately I did not like them that much to keep them and remember which one they were.
HTH
I had the same problem as well unfortunately, also couldn't access App info/app size
Had to uninstall some apps, then reinstalled them again
But I can't install broken Sword without getting the problem again
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda premium
Yes, I can confirm that Broken Sword game causes App Info to crash. Another one that I found is from Samsung Apps called "Catch The Monkey". Troubleshooting this was time consuming as I had to uninstall each app in the sequence (refering to appbrain.com which has the sequence of apps I installed from Google Play) and keep testing whether App Info crashes or not.

[Q] apps on sdcard disappear after reboot

I just recently installed the stable version of CM10.1.3 and it works great. After that I installed the updated google search along with the new Google Experience Launcher. I was able to get the new launcher to work pretty much flawlessly, with google now integration and hotword activation from any screen. There appears to be one issue though...when i reboot my phone the icons from all apps on the SDcard (not my external sdcard) disappear from the various pages. Anyone else have this issue or know how to solve it.
Thanks!!

This seems to be an issue with the Google Experience Launcher. I just had the same problem after switching to it on my Samsung Galaxy S4 Active with stock Android 4.2.2 firmware. Unfortunately I do not know how to fix it yet (or even if it can be fixed). This may need to be resolved by Google.
Even if wait sometime (5 min) after reboot does it appear?
I do not believe so. I had several folders that I had put shortcuts in and most of the shortcuts disappeared and never came back.
I pretty much gave up on using GEL for the time being and went back to TouchWiz. Having the always-on voice search was nice, but it's not worth missing my icons on reboot. Plus, TW does a better job of navigating quickly through different windows than GEL because I can quickly tap the exact page that I want in TW where I have to keep swiping over and over in GEL (and TW loops around when you reach the last page). Maybe I'll try GEL again next release.
Hi!
I had the same issue with CM 10.1, now I'm using CM 10.2 and the failure was still there.
Have you tried to mount the apps again but not from a backup (titanium bckp, supe bckp, etc) but directly from the play store?, I made that and it seems to work despite I'm trying not to move the apps to the external sd card (just in case).
Regards.
Hi there..
I was using Omni Rom and had the same problem, moved to CM 11, same problem..
I am using SGS2 i9100.
Anyone any idea?
Update:
seems to be fixed with Adroid 4.4.3:

"app shortcuts sometimes got removed from launcher after update"
:good:
Mine also missing..
I'm using CM11 for galaxy wonder. When i moved the apps to sdcard, i still can play before reboot. After i rebooting , my apps disappear and i tried to reboot many times also didnt appear... Please help me to fix it..
To solve this problem I used SiMi Folder. see this link
Easy workaround- just force stop the launcher you are using (slim launcher in my case) and the icons should re-appear.

[Q] Everything keeps failing

So I was using the CM11 mod for my fascinate for about 2 months. The first 2 weeks of using it, it was awesome. After that, my RAM was going down for no reason, and i had some problems but i could fix it by optimizing my device.
A few days ago, my phone kept crashing. I kept on getting messages that Trebuchet had failed, Clock had failed, Play Store Services have failed, etc. Today morning, almost everything on my phone failed. It would just keep reloading the home page. I restarted my device several times, but after that nothing would really load.My battery had about 93% charge and i went to school. When it was 3rd period in school, my battery was 15%. I had no applications running. I just turned it off
When i got home, it would load but everything was slow. i optimized, cleared cache and everything but it wouldn't work. When i open an app, it takes a long time to load. The home screen, and menu pop us normally, but the apps are slow. I really dont know what to do and what ROM to move onto next. Im not getting a new phone for a while, and i really need help.
What ROM should i flash? I need something stable, that wont have problems like this. I also like to use Facebook a lot.
Please help me with my problem because i really want my phone to work. I bought the phone for $200 and it was a bad decision, since all these problems started occurring. What ROM would be the best for me?
@samsung striker
Wow, you have a lot going in there...
Hopefully when you say cm11, it's the version from unjust 06/04/14
That thing is ridiculously stable...
I'll start off with this, Facebook and any fb messenger apps are huge memory hogs.
Next, i saw you mention optimize several times, what program are you using to do that with?
The particular problem i see with the fascinate right now is browsing and using social media sites fill up the cache folder quickly. When that happens the phone well act like you have described.
You can easily fill the cache on one or two days depending on how heavily you browse.
At a minimum, what i think you need to do is boot into recovery and wipe cache and davlik.
Then reboot and let it rebuild things, if things don't smooth out within 15 minutes of booting up, go ahead and reboot again to see if it clears up.
It's very possible if you filled up the cache it probably tried to write information somewhere else and why it freaking out
I would recommend ever other day wiping cache from in recovery and you should be real safe with things and the ROM would be very stable.
If you have done that and are still having issues,,,
Or if you at ready to sacrifice losing your call history and text history and apps etc,,, Go ahead in recovery and do the factory reset,,, it will wipe your apps and stored data (not download items like music or zip files) & put everything back just like you did a fresh install of cm11, so you have to set up all your preferences and gapps and other apps you want all over again
.
Yea i use Facebook a lot. I like to download a lot of apps and most of the time it works fine, but sometimes these problems start to occur, followed by a lot of lag.
When i optimize my device, i optimize it with this program called "Smart Booster." I also use this other app called "Fast Reboot."
Anyways, ill try what you suggested and see if it works well. If it doesn't work out for me, do you have any other Rom's in mind that are better for me?
Thanks.
I had the same issue pop up a week or two ago. Cleared cache and Dalvik on a semi-regular basis (although I probably browse less than it sounds like you do) but it didn't do too much for me. Ended up on the most recent CM 10.1 nightly and only installed the apps I use regularly instead of my usual restore of every app that had a TiBu backup. It's been working great for me over the past week or so. Personally, I couldn't handle the data drops on CM 11 any longer either, so CM 10.1 has been a good solution on that front.

Grab the latest nightly from the CyanogenMod site - I PM'd you the link since I can't post them here.
I booted into recovery, wiped data/cache/dalvik and installed the zip. It failed, I rebooted back into recovery, and installed the zip again and it worked without a hitch. Very similar to flashing CM 11.

So i flashed it, and it was working pretty good. I downloaded a few apps such as Messenger, Kik, TB, Smart Lock, and Clash of clans. It was working well, until i used Facebook Messenger, which made it lag just a little. I used clash of clans, and it did lag a little so i had to get Smart Booster, and optimize.
I like to download a lot of apps so im not sure how my device would handle it, since im experiencing a little lag from these few apps. Did you download similar apps as me? Also, do you like to download a lot of apps? Im just asking just to see how well your Fascinate runs compared to mine.
Again, thanks for the help. My Fascinate runs better now
Im gonna try to get a custom kernel and see what happens.
I found that when I installed ALL of my apps that the phone would slow down significantly. I just have the essentials now - a few games, a few social apps, and some other items, well below what I had earlier. The Fassy didn't respond too well when I had a ton of apps on there, so I scaled back and it seems to be working a lot better for me. The single-core can only handle so much - hopefully Devil or another kernel will help you out if you need additional apps!

Yea that's the bad thing about the fascinate, and i don't think there are any kernels for Cm 10.1 because I searched online, and couldn't find anything.
Check out HHP's thread in the General section - plenty of JB kernels to choose from. I think Devil was the most widely liked from that group if I remember correctly.
