Hello everybody.
I sent my Galaxy S3 to battery, and it was ok. The problem was my phone was rooted, so they flashed a JB version, the build number is XDLH6.
My question is, how can I downgrade to ICS so I can root the device, reset the binary counter, and get the device status back to Normal, so when the official JB comes out, I can update it through Kies.
If you have a way to do all that(get the device status back to Normal without the downgrade thing) I would love to hear it.
Thx for your help and time guys, this forum rocks!

To downgrade, download any ICS ROM (or just stock rom) from here.
To reset binary counter, use TRIANGLE AWAY app, also available on this forum (just search for it on google if you have difficulty).
For completely removing root, first use triangle away app and reset binary counter.
Then download stock rom (search on google or on this forum) and flash with odin (also look for tutorial on this forum only).
Hope this helps.
Good Luck
You still can use cf-root to root your device and use triangle away to reset the counter.
Then if you want to wait for OTA, find your ics firmware at sammobile and flash it with odin

Many thanks! But I just flashed the newest JB version, and the device status is back to Normal. In the binary count it still says yes, but the others two are official(don't know why, but i'm not complaining ) and I will root and reset the binary count. And again, thx for your help!
Now I have another annoying problem. In my lock screen, Help Text is shown, although I disabled it. It always says Swipe over a shortcut to open an app.
How can I disable this????????

Hey there,
I wanted to search first but I can't from my phone and since I need an answer pretty quickly I thought I'd just post now. I current run the latest nightly of ICS and was wondering if there is a way to flash back to stock (with Odin or recovery) so that it seems to be untampered with. Another question is will the stock firmware get updates OTA or is that functionality broken now thanks to the modding.
Oh and yes I have run triangle away to remove the triangle
Any help would be appreciated thanks in advance.

To answer your questions:
1. Yes, you can flash back to stock with Odin. Just download the official stock firmware for your region at Intratech's thread
2. If you flash the stock FW, you can still get updates via Kies. Samsung isn't that much of a d*ck.
3. Triangle Away also resets the flash counter, but please go to download mode to check whether your current flash counter is correct since Triangle Away can hard-brick your phone
thanks for your help this is exactly what I was wondering
I've already reset the counter correctly with triangle away, but what do u mean by it hardbricking the phone? when it enters download mode it bricks or what?
he was being cautious..... no worries you already done running triangle away.
what he meant to always check what the triangle away says and what download mode says about counter.

Oh I see, thanks for the clarification I'll keep that in mind if I ever need to run triangle away again
Hi all.
My SGS2 needs to be sent in for repairs in the imminent future, and in preparation I unrooted my phone and flashed a Stock ICS build (my carrier is Optus, Australia). Before this I was running a few different GB roms. When I boot my phone I do not get the yellow triangle (I assume this is because I am running official Samsung firmware), but if I put the phone into download mode, it still shows the 8 custom flashes I did earlier.
My real question is will Chainfire's Triangle Away app remove the binary count even if the triangle isn't there?
And a better question would be, would having official firmware be enough to still claim warranty, or would I need to have both official firmware and a "0" custom flash count?
Thanks for any help!
I believe Samsung may throw a stink about the counter, even if you are on stock/official firmware. This counter would imply that you have voided your warranty previous to the current state of the phone and it's OS
To be safe I would use the Triangle away app
EDIT: Yes, the app does reset the flash counter. See https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=eu.chainfire.triangleaway&hl=en
Its always safe to clear the counter before returning it for service. yes the triangle away app will clear the counter with/without triangle.
download it for free from here

Thanks guys!
I tried to run the app but it's telling me I need Superuser access...
Does this mean I need to root the phone, use the triangle away app, then UNroot the phone?
Sorry if this is obvious... Not overly confident of my ability to keep the phone unbricked haha.

You are correct. Root the phone first, use the app, then unroot.
Thanks!
So it will still think it's Samsung official after that process?
You'll need a rooted ICS firmware already on your phone.
Check the Triangle Away forum to ensure its working with your firmware version.
Flash Triangle Away, this will remove Yellow Triangle and reset Custom Counter to 0.
Flash official unrooted firmware using Odin, this wont increase your Custom Counter as its official. Use a firmware thats specific to your region.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1075278
Job done.
Also check my sigi for links
Thanks! This forum is full of amazing help.
So theoretically I could follow those steps then flash the stock ROM a thousand times and the flash counter would remain at 0?
If it makes you feel any better I went to Optus 3 weeks ago with a phone that wouldn't turn on with ICS for another region with root and they fixed it.
I think my USB jig cleared the counter to 0 though. I couldn't connect my phone to dl mode or anything
The app removes the triangle as well as the counter
Yeah I tried using the jig a while ago but I think I have the newer bootloader, so it didn't do anything, which was very disappointing.
I'd just hate to take it in then have them tell me to get bent because I rom'ed it.
Ok so let me know if theres a problem with my process.
I'm using ICS and the kernel is XWLP4.
There was no LP4 in Chainfires thread but I read that I could use the next closest one. So I should flash something like "CF-Root-SGS2_XW_O2U_LP3-v5.4-CWM5.zip" and then triangle away then use the Optus stock ICS?
UPDAT: I tried this method and it worked perfectly! Thanks so much to everyone who helped.
has worked like a charm for me everytime i put stock firmwares on my phone
Safest way is to flash a really old firmware and thus flashing the old bootloader. Now reset the counter with an usb jig. Done.

Or just flash the old bootloader.
I installed samsung galaxy s3 toolkit and I did something there and now the status of my phone in the about phone setting is modified and not normal. I don't have root, I checked this with some apps.
so what did you do?
I just started the toolkit and it setup something and now when I am trying to search for an ota update there is a message that the phone is modified.
"it setup something"?
I think it did a root but i don't have superuser in the app drawer
Oh my god.. Read a little before playing with that stuff okay? Alright.. Try to flash stock with ODIN, that should revert everything back to the original firmware.. Do read the threads and steps carefully this time..
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda app-developers app
I flashed stock rom. it didn't help
what did you need the toolkit for if you don't want root?
As said before READ READ READ before messing with your expensive piece of hardware.
So you flashed a Stock Samsung Firmware and it didn't reset your System Status? To my knowledge the last thing you can try is by resetting your status via the Triangle Away App but for this you need Root. How to Root? Well there are like a 1000 guides on how to root. Search for one.
After you rooted your device reset your counter via the Triangle Away App and afterwards flash a completely Stock Firmware through Odin. This will un-root your device again and everything should be Stock as before.
Hi All,I'd be greatful if someone can advise me. My phones counter has changed to 1 annoyed because i wasn't on custom firmware or rooted at the time, i just reset my normal official firmware and the counter went up to 1. i need to change it back to 0 but it seems to be much harder than previous when ive done this.I rooted the s3 and have a custom firware on it just so i could install triangle away and reset the counter but the counter wont go below 1 anymore.i have tried to pull the battery just before the samsung logo s3 but its not working this time. I understand a stock recovery/bootloader would enable the counter to set to 0 without having to try and pull the battery. I am currently running team win recovery project 2.3.3.0.Anyone know where i get the stock from which I can run while rooted I assume or any other helpful tips?CheersFei

What state do you want the phone to be in? Do you want to continue running modified with counter of 0, or do you want to return to full stock with counter of 0?
There are several guides here on exactly how to do this, search and read for the full info.
To my knowledge you will have to downgrade your bootloader to the ICS version before factory reset, run triangle away then immediately flash stock recovery and ROM from Odin.
I've not done the above myself, so I'd recommend you read up first.

I want to return to stock because it needs to go to the shop. But the custom bootloader isnt letting the counter turn to 0 I read this is because its not stock. I tried pulling the battery before samsung logo after triangle reboots after resetting the counter but with this firmware its just not going back to zero. I understand I cant put stock firmware on until the counter is at zero because I won't be able to be rooted to use triangle.
Id just like to know what stock bootloader I should use to reset the counter. Then I can return to stock.
Thank you for replying

There are 2 methods.
1) Reset with triangle away and interupt reboot (pull battery immediately after Triangle away). This may take several attempts to get right. Then you boot into download mode. If binary counter is "0" (regardless of modified status = custom) then flash via odin
2) Flash an old bootloader (4.1.1) which you can get from any 4.1.1 official ROM on sammobile.com. There is a link to an ics bootloader in my SDS thread at the very bottom of the post too

Bootloaders since 4.1.2 and some 4.1.1 count the binary at every boot, which is why you must flash an ICS bootloader.
You also need to ensure you have stock kernel, stock recovery.
IMHO the best process would be:
Flash full stock with ODIN now.
Root with CF-AUTO root (must be AUTO) as this doesnt modify kernel or recovery
Then you should be able to triangle away and not go back to 1 on reboot.n ***If still not reset, flash ICS bootloader, then try triangle away again.
Flash stock again

Okay i re-installed the stock rom from the download mode i was already on then hard reset after from bootloader, the red exclamation mark has gone, the count says no still and the device status in settings is saying normal. so i assume this is fit to go back to the shop. no worries.
Hi All,
I need to move back to a stock ROM I hope at least 4.1 as my girlfriend has just had the offical upgrade from Samsung and the phone works really well.
The reason for having to go back to a stock ROM leaving no trace the phone was had anything else on it is due to one reason only.
I use the world pay card payment terminal with my phone and this requires an app to be installed on the phone. However this will not work as the phone has a non standard rom.
I have tried to discuss this in the following thread however it look like I have no choice but to go back to a standard ROM.
My main question here is to find out is it possible to go back to a standard ROM and leave no trace the phone had ever been touched? Will I also have to change anything else like Radio as well?
Hope this all makes sence and sorry to any mods that this this is in the wrong place.
Thanks
Mathew

its very easy really but make sure when u start downloading the system software from the sammobile
to choose your country from it if u wanna be more precise on it
Ok but will that reset the Binary Count as I think thats what the App could be looking at?
Is there a way to do that I have a Jig but it does not seem to reset the count as I had hopped.

A standard firmware should leave the binary untouched and set as official instead of custom. Another way of resetting it is triangle away app but thta will still leave you rooted etc and probably stil cause the problems using the app you need

You are correct about the trinagle away app as it would still be rooted.
Currently the binary has 3 couunts on it when I install the standard firmware will this reset to 0?
Also will my phone remail unlocked on all networks?

About the binary count, i'm not sure if flashing stock resets it fully since i haven't had stock for about a year or so
But i have been told that flashing a stock firmware will reset the binary count to 0. You can always try for yourself
How did you know what binary count you had? Triangleaway?

It should do, I've recently put my old s2 back to stock and it is now showing 0 on binary but I have read in the past that there may be a hidden counter on some phones, not sure if the s2 is one of them, so if possible try triangle away to reset it (chainfire did a work round to reset any hidden counters) then flash back to stock.

Use Triangle Away to reset the flash counter while your phone is still rooted, then flash stock rom with Odin. Stock phone with flash counter showing 'Samsung Official' & 'Custom Binary Download = 0'. Sorted.
Edit - Re: a hidden counter, you're being paranoid.
OK so we go with the following order
Step 1 - Reset Binary using triangle away app
Step 2 - Install Stock firmware from sammobile.com
Step 3 - Should I do somthing with the Kernal as this is not stock?
If you knew the basics (as opposed to jumping in without knowing the 'how & why'), you'd know stock rom packages contain stock kernels, which overwrite any kernel you're currently running (just as the stock rom within said package replaces whatever rom you're currently running).
