A guess as to your question .
Change CSC yes flash a CSC or replace CSC files via root explorer .

but it was just the dual boot kernel...
i've restored the bootloader and kernel from ftf and now it says i'm up to date...

Has Samsung fixed the emmc kernel brickbug in 4.1.2?
My mates s2 has the insane chip, so just wondering if it is safe, or if a custom kernel still is the best solution for the insane chips

I dont really understand your concern since you already know that using custom kernel is the solution?
Just flash custom kernel, end of!

Just flash philz latest kernel .. link is in my signature I also have insane chip and I am on 4.1.2 with no problems
