[Q] WB4.0 Missing Stock Messaging App

Hey guys, just jumped from WB3.7 to 4.0, I also flashed the XLoud and Bravia patch. Unfortunately I've lost the stock messaging app. It's definitely not just the shortcut but while asp that's missing, as I get an FC when I attempt to text from phone book
Can someone point me to anywhere I can download the messaging app from, I'm hoping to flash through xrec, and download straight to phone. Cheers gents
maybe u can try to get WB 5, check it out! He just released
Search on your rom flashable zip, open it with winRar and find on system-app, search for nessaging.apk or conversation.apk, then extract it and move it to your sd card.
Then copy to system/app using root explorer (dont forget to change system permission to r/w) and change permission to rw- r-- r--.
Reboot.

Asus widget ports tested on CM9 TP

Per request Im posting some Asus native widgets:
Notes:
For email to work, copy: Email.apk, EmailWidget.apk and Exchange.apk into system/app dir OVERWRITING exisiting files(backup exisiting apks if you wish). Change permissions to rw-r-r. Reboot. Widget will appear under 'Widgets' section.
For date/time and weather to work, copy: weather.resized.ics.apk and DeskClock.apk into system/app folder. Change permissions to rw-r-r. Reboot. Widget will appear under 'Widgets' section.
For TaskManager to work, copy: taskmanager.apk into system/app folder. Change permissions to rw-r-r. Widget will appear under 'Widgets' section - no need to reboot for this one.
I have some more Asus native apps/widgets/wallpapers - if anyone wants let me know.
the rest:
Thanks for these. Would love to see the others please!
Cheers
Nice. I'm going to try these out when I get home.

I dont quiet get what you are saying. Are you saying you cant place the file in the system/app directory on your sd card?
With the exception of the emailwidget file, all the asus files moved smoothly into the system/app folder. Whenever I try and put the emailwidget file in, it says 'transfer failed'. As said, everything else is in the folder.

Hmm. Thats odd. If everything else moved fine, I dont see why that one wouldnt. Is that the only file that REPLACES another one? Maybe the original needs to be removed first. Back it up and delete it. Then try again.
I love xda.
I get what I want and share what I can do.

i can't get the email app to work....it wasn't installed so when I try to install this new one it says "not installed". That means the widget won't appear either =S
Try to install it with a root explorer like Rom Toolbox.
Paste it to system/app.

You don't really install it - get yourself some file explorer; 'root browser' is the best IMO. Then go to system/app and delete the 3 original email apks(back them up first if you want). Copy the 3 email apks attached to this post to system/app, change permissions on all 3 files to rw-r-r reboot and the email widget should be there.
I will post some more Asus stuff tomorrow. The thing I'm looking for is Asus quick settings status bar widget. If anyone has a port please upload.

i know we usually don't install this kind of stuff, but it won't work for any reason. the app doesn't even show up in the app drawer.
i pasted it into system/app and changed permissions like the instructions said. The weather and clock worked fine, the email wont =S
Hmmm the only thing I can think of is perhaps your explorer app makes a backup of original apk by default without overwriting the original - check if you have something like email-backup.apk in your system/app folder. Also see what the modified date says on those apks. Don't forget to reboot.

it works now, i installed the apk on a different ROM i'd made a nandroid of earlier, which is what i'll stick with.
PS: Would you do this with Sense widgets/apps aswell in the future?
here are a few more:
copy BatteryWidget.apk to your system/app folder, change permissions to rw-r-r, reboot.
Simply install dayscene apk
move to system/app

Original Music Player

can anyone tell me how to install the original music player for the 5.0? I currently have a custom rom and its GenericGinger 1.1 and i love it.. i just miss the music player... i tried putting the apk in /system/app/ but it never shows in the app drawer and it always fail no matter what if i try to install it... any help is much appreciated
Have you tried fixing permissions? Use root explorer or equivalent and set permissions to rw- r-- r--
Sent from my Droid Noodles X2
yea i did that soon as i noticed it was different from the other files... no difference..
1. The music app may have dependency on twframework.jar. There may be even more dependency on system libraries in /system/lib.
2. Is your music apk deodexed. If not, you need the apk file as well as the odex file.

how can i install the stock samsung sms app ?

hi,
I'm trying to install stock sms app but i can't achieve this. It keeps saying : installation aborded
I am on chameleon rom 1.1 ( hybrid aosp/samsung rom)
Can you help me ?
(sorry if i made mistakes in my post i'm not english XD )
You should copy the apk into /system/app, then change permissions into 644 (rw--r--r), change group and owner to 'root', and finally reboot and try.

i already tried it and it didn't work. and i am not sur about the about i trid to install because it s difficult to find the stock sms app.
i changed the permissions but i don t understand what you are saying by " 644 (rw--r--r)"
theoricaly it should work since i use an hybrid app ?
With a file manager, backup your mms.apk in /system/app in whatever folder you want. Then, copy the stock mms.apk into /system/app.
You shouldn't click on the .apk and let the app install as you do with other apk files, because this is a system application.
644 means read/write-read-read.
rw-r--r means u set read and write in the owner row , and set read only in the group row , and set read only too in the others row
Note : u get to permissions window in root explorer afer changing r/o read only to r/w read write from the button at the top
then just long click the item u want to change its permissions
i tried what you have said and it didn't work. Is a flashable zip existed ?
up
The stock mms.apk might not be compatible with the custom ROM you have on your phone...
Why do you say it doesn't work? What happens? You open it and it FCs or something else?
I just followed instructions given by posters above and it didn't worked. ( remove the old Mms.apk by the stock one, and fix the permissions, then reboot ) Maybe i don't have the good app, i don't understand why it didn't work; The chameleon rom support stock camera app of samsung and others apps...

Maybe the pakage cant be praised because of android version differnece , some apks from ics dont work on Jb and vice versa
So if u want a stock sms to work on jb , then download another jb rom that has it and take it from there
For pushing files to system app , it is better to first delete the app u want to replace then do a reboot after that copy the new app to system app and set premissions and set r/w back to r/o

[Q] I can see it in file explorer, but not in app drawer

Hey,
So i tried to intall an earlier version of Google Play, i did it manually. I set the permissions accordingly and ofcourse rebooted.
After rebooting, i couldn't see it in app drawer but when i checked in /system/app i saw it (PhoneSky.apk)
How can i make i appear?
You should know that i run a rooted GT-i9100 with Omega v23 powered by Philz kernel. (4.1.2)
Thanks for the time.
Just checking how you set permissions.....
Was it....
xx□
x□□
x□□
or
rw- r-- r--
If it was, the reboot should have worked.....
Have you frozen/deleted the original version?
Sent from my rooted, de bloated, stock JB powered S2 via PhilZ kernel and XDA developers app
Firstly i set it as
rw- r-- r--
and rebooted
Then i didn't work so i set it as it was in all other /system/app .apk's
rwx rwx rwx
Rebooted
None worked
