anyone know if there is a way to make it so i don't need a screen lock (pin, pattern, etc) in order to have a vpn on my phone? i use the built in vpn control in the settings but it makes me have a pass code and i hate having an extra step between the ring and the sexy goodness of whatever rom i choose to run that week haha.
perhaps a file edit in the rom somewhere or an app floating somewhere?
p.s. im open to using a vpn app if thats whats needed but i haven't looked yet so idk...

EDIT: Per the suggestions, I downloaded and can confirm it seems pretty amazing. A big learning curve though, doesn't seem intuitive. Working on that.
I Really would like to start using this app, but the permissions seem crazy to me. Everyone's thoughts? Am I just paranoid? The developer seems very legit and know's whats up... fan of XDA too... so, probably nothing, but I am so skeptical when an app needs so much (though, given the power of the app, it sorta makes sense)
This application has access to the following:
Services that cost you money:
directly call phone numbers
Network communication:
full Internet access
Your personal information:
read sensitive log data
Storage:
modify/delete USB storage contents modify/delete SD card contents
System tools:
disable keylock,
retrieve running applications,
reorder running applications,
modify global system settings,
prevent device from sleeping,
display system-level alerts
Your accounts:
discover known accounts
Hardware controls:
control vibrator
Network communication:
view network state,
view Wi-Fi state
System tools:
automatically start at boot,
expand/collapse status bar,
set preferred applications,
read sync settings
NOW... with all that said, look at the beauty you can create:

Hmm.. quick widget access?
I think you are just being paranoid. It's obviously a widely used app and as you can see a wonderful app to have.
If this was an unknown dev I would say do some research.
Thanks for this didn't know widgetlocker had themes!

yea like i have power amp so i put that widget there i also have my weather widget there also you can choose a different wallpaper aside from the one your phone has
I have been using it for a week or so now. I love having my fancy widget with weather on my lock screen but I get more use out of the Pandora Widget. control my music without having to unlock my phone when I pull it out of my pocket. added a slider for some things and its awesome. check out my layout i think it came out great personally.
How do I use the theme?

I've had it for a while but stopped using it, it would often default to system lockscreen and it runs in bg using resources, but it is pretty.PS. why are my screenies teh suck?
Don't blame me, blame my keyboard's autocorrection algorithm.

Cool! Thanks for posting this. I'm just not sure exactly how to use apply these themes. What exactly do we do with the .zips?
I want this one - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=11817549&postcount=69
1. go the app menu and open widget locker (will not work from an already locked state )
2. Long press on open space
3. Select "Custom Slider"
4. click the drop down box to select a different slider from those installed or select "get themes" and download them directly.
5. customize the slider before you select "save"
EDIT: http://widgetlocker.teslacoilsw.com/themes-doc/installing-themes/ <-- how to install
Nvm we need 2.0 version lol
Alright, downloaded it... it looks like there is a little bit of a learning curve on this app. I will try reading the guides already out there and see if I can give a readers digest version later.
I've been using it for a couple of weeks now and love it. I got it specifically for keeping the audiogalaxy app on the locker as to have quicker access to pause or stop music. I have also grown fond of the rotary lock as well.
I've been using Widget Locker for months and I've never had a problem. I've just discovered the theming aspect of it so I'm excited to get into that. I'm wanting to theme the rotary and the normal android tabs like the lockscreens in Bionix 1.3, hopefully it turns out well! If someone's already done this, let me know where to find it
Here is my first attempt.....
Not perfect.
Where on the android filesystem is the lockscreen wallpaper stored?
Is it different from version to version of the Android?
Or maybe it is launcher specific?
I couldn't find any mentioned of it in the SDK.
I'm not just looking for the way of setting the lock screen WP via menu, which has mandatory cropping in new TW anyways.

On launcher2.apk under /system/app/. Copy it to the PC and use 7zip to extract launcher2. I don't have my personal PC, else I would have given you the exact folder name.

Interesting, so whenever use changes lock wallpaper it get's repackaged in to that APK?
I've examined the above mentioned APK and although it contains a bunch of wallpaper images none of them is a lock screen one. Which makes sense, why the APK will have current lock screen repackaged in to it. Just doesn't make sense.
So the currently set lockscreen wallpaper must be saved either on the file system or in the launcher DB.
Any ideas where it is?
In case someone needs it, it is here (for TouchWiz):

This is killing me. I've spent a couple hours now looking for the frickin' location of my lockscreen wallpaper, and was super excited to find this, the only post on the internets with a path to the file rather than a path to the default system wallpapers or some other answer to a question similar to the one asked (where's my current lockscreen wallpaper stored?), but this path isn't on my galaxy s2.
Anyone have any idea where it might be? It HAS to be somewhere, right? I mean, it's being loaded when I turn on the phone, so even though the original that I used to set it is gone, it has to be cached somewhere.

Hello everyone,
Since I have 1 posts including this one on the XDA forum and couldn't post in the dev section, I guess it'll have to go here. I'd like to make a simple lock screen for my Galaxy S2 (Android 2.3).
It would be similar to the default pattern lock but I don't want a combination of dots. Instead, I want it to unlock at a single tap at a position on the screen, or maybe two correct taps.
Since the default pattern lock requires at least 4 dot connections, I couldn't use it. I also want it to show the background with no widgets, only maybe the notification bar.
Now I downloaded the Android SDK, but I have no experience with it. I have past C++ experience and I'm willing to learn, but I would like some directions and perhaps code snippets to get me started.
Inb4 NOT SECURE LOL: It's what I want to have.
tl;dr Mewants to make single or double tap lock screen with no widgets showing. Halp?
Try AppInventor ...It is a good way to learn to make apps for Android without really knowing the programming...all you need to know is hoe you you want your app to work...and since you have previous experience with C/C++..am sure the loops such as if/if-else etc in the pictorial manner won't confuse you..Good luck..Its a good Idea you have there..dunno if it can be implemented for sure though!
There are many AOSP Lockscreens available in the dev section anyway...check them out till then
I searched the forum but didn't get any answer... Invert colours will be battery friendly like black background and white text...
Thanks in advance.
Maybe you could try Boat Browser. It doesn't support invert color. But it supports day/night mode. When in night mode, cell phone screen brightness could be customized as you want. It's better for user's eyes and also saving battery a lot.
Please take a look. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1308752
Thank you. Will give a try.

You can take a look at the solution in my signature. It uses a proxy filter to change the colors of the webpage. The current setup only works on rooted phones. Eventually maybe somebody can package it into an app that will work on unrooted phones.
Without root, one possible solution is that instead of running the proxy filter on your phone, you run it somewhere else. You basically need something to act as your proxy server, say a home router or computer that is on 24/7. Run privoxy on your home router/computer, and set the proxy settings on your phone to point at your home router/computer. Kind of a crude solution but it should work.
Hello
would it be hard to change the app Manga rock so that whenever you tap on the left or right side of the screen that it doesn't change the page?

The best way I can think of doing this would be an Xposed module. You need to decompile the APK with apktool and/or dex2jar and then find out what code changes the pages and then disable via (most likely) a method hook. Obviously you'll need to know how to develop with the Android SDK for this.
