Failed restock - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have attempted to restock my s3 using the guide Stock Official Firmwares by Faryaab, I had a few hicups but managed to get the phone to work. I used the latest firmware from this guide (I9300XXBLG8) but first thing I tried to change the area code thing so that kies would recognize my device but once i entered my imei number using the x#272x thing but when the preconfig screen comes up i dont have the list it just says eur. and the second problem I am having is I now can not connect my s3 to my pc via usb as it has stopped working can anyone assist.
Cheers

[Q] Problem with downloading Firmware - Indian phone in South Africa (SGS 2)

Hello Thr ,
I am in a bit of a problem
I have Kies installed - Version 2.0.1.11053_99
Windows 7
Galaxy S2 - I9100DDKE2 ( PDA:KE8/PHONE:KE2/CSC:KE2(INU)
which i bought from INDIA two weeks back .
Now i am in South Africa when i connect it to Kies here , i am getting a popup which says that a Firmware Update is available.
Latest Firmware Version shown is
PDA:KF3/PHONE:KE4/CSC:KF3(INU)
Now when i start the Upgrade process , it fails to download the Firmware update and shows me the error :
"Error found in the downloaded file.Do you want to try downlaiding again ?"
and if i click YES then the same thing happens again .
I was using this Kies on the same laptop for my Galaxy S(SGS 1) before and never got an issue with it.
This is happening numberous times and i am not sure whether it is due to my phone being from India and that i am trying to upgrade it here in South Africa or
actually something with Samsung South Africa .
Can any one please explain to me what is happening and how do i Fix this now.
P.S.- not going to either use a ROM or Root it myself options ...
Many Thanks
Poor internet connection turn off AV and firewall .

Thanks Will try it tomm,
Strange i never faced this sort of a problem with my Galaxy S ..
U think it has nothing to do with the fact that my phone was bought in India and that i am now in South Africa?
failed to run firmware upgrade unknown error occured
OK so still getting the Error
I have tried to reinstall the Samsung Kies again on my laptop.
"failed to run firmware upgrade unknown error occurred"
see i was facing same pro before i try numbers of time and alt last i succeeded wht i do it sounds pretty odd dont let your windows stay ideal for more then 45 sec it let the download interrupt try tht method u will be able to download the updates best of luck
Can u please elaborate where u were facing this issue and what ur firmware version is .
Also did u buy the phone in India and used it elsewhere or not?
what is happening in my case is that the download keeps failing and everytime i start it again , it goes a little further so in about 5-6 attempts it reaches 100%. and then when it tries to update the device with it , it fails to say that the downloaded file is corrupt or has an error or something like it.
Guyz please help !!!
help please----Galaxy S2 experts..
Guyz do help me please. i have tried reseting my phone and reinstalled kies a number of times now...
nothing seems to be working,,,,and now worse enuf all Kies does it says that the update is available and i click YES and then it just looses connection with the phone and reconnects again and again keeps giving me the update available popup ....what to do?
Looking at how the connection is being made, I'd refute the USB drivers problem and would rather resort to ODIN for FW install. Its fairly easy to use, if you are still able to get into Download/Recovery mode. The help on ODIN is spread all across the forum, let me know if you would still need any help on ODIN part....KIES is usually found to behave irrationally while upgrading firmware.
Thanks for coming to my help.
You see i am a little scared of using ODIN since i only bought this phone a week ago and don't want to mess up the warranty or future updates etc.
If i do use Odin (i have used it before for my galaxy S) , does it void my warranty or anything like it?
also will i be able to use Kies for future updates or would i always have to use ODIN from then onwards?
Finally , what sort of issues can i run into since i bought this phone in India and am now using this in SA?
Any help is appreciated.
Well, ODIN doesn't really void the warranty as you could always flash the country-specific firmware and flash the download counter too with the help of a small USB JIG (available for a minimal price at e-bay). If you really want to go down the KIES road, you might want to try a different system, cable/USB port (yes, it sometimes is the culprit) and see how it treats you then. If it still fails to do its assigned job, I think ODIN is the way to go...I have had 2 SGS and now SGS2 and never once did I go with KIES, well I tried once but it didn't go too well...since then ODIN is what I love. You can use KIES afterwards if you wish to, provided it has the country specific FW, so if you bought it from India, it should reflect the FW of India (seems like FW is mapped somehow with the IMEI).
Regarding your last, you shouldn't really bump into any roadblocks, should you find yourself in a soup, XDA fraternity would come to your rescue. Read thoroughly and proceed.
Any update on how did it go?
Sorted ,,,actually tried it on Win Xp and after two failures with decompressing binary files it went thru the third time
Seems like Win 7 didn't like my brand new galaxy S2

NO Kies recognition after rooting with Odin

Dear mighty community,
I recently successfully flashed with ODIN (the unsecure Kernel XWKDD) my S2. Everything passed and my phone rebooted.
Upon starting SuperonClick apparently just at the end of rooting the program starts to freeze. "Step 6" couldn't be finalized.
So, of course I had to force close Superoneclick.
Tried to connect with Kies. Nothing. Updated Kies and the "try to look for connection" solution didn't help either. Restarted phone and computer. Still nothing.
Installed Kies on another computer, latest version. My phone still won't be recognized. " solution looking" didn't work.
Tried my luck with superoneclick eventhough no Kies. Program freezes at Connecting to phone now, doesn't even get to "step 6".
Little bummed out of how to finalize root or even reset phone with original software without KIES recognition.
Please, mighty community, help me
kies has been having a few problems from what i have heard..as many have the same questions as you try searching first before you open a thread..anyway a thread similar to yours that dont recognize handsets or firmware is here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1285544
dont know if it helps but shows that your not the only one whos having problems with kies..
By the way what was your original firmware?? Cause before it happened to me when i tried rooting and never had it recognised by kies...so i tried to find the kernel that matched the closest to mine and it was recognised and updated the firmware....
But il be honest i dont use Kies anymore and its not useful for me at all...but whats your original firmware and i will help you try to match the one you should flash through odin again
I played a little bit with turning usb debugging on and off several times. I turned USB dubugging off and KIES recognized my phone. Started Superoneclick couldn't get passed the "awaiting connection to phone". Forceclosed superonclick. Closed KIES, turned debugging on, started superoneclick and it got up unitl the point on the picture. Then freeze!
With great foresight I didn't wrote down the kernel version
I only have general information which, I guess, won't help anything:
The buildnumber is:
GINGERBREAD.XWK4
And the kernel version I installied is: [email protected] #2
Right i dont know if this will work but give it a try..i will give you two links..one is for rom and one is for your kernel...
http://www.multiupload.com/LH122I67IU
thats for your kernel stock
http://hotfile.com/dl/116887059/f45e1a7/9100XWKDD_I9100XXKDH_I9100XEUKD1.zip.html
thats for stock rom.
that will unroot you and get you back to stock again...once you done that and you flashed back to stock then try and see what kies says to you...and if your going to root please for the love of god dont connect to kies cause it will not recognise your firmware..but i think you can backup data and transfer your music and stuff
give me a message if you want more help
and follow the guide in the link below

KDD just about the first firmware for the may release of the SGS2 .

Three main problem I encounter is an interrupted rooting process. I am able to flash successfully the rom with odin but unable to complete root with superoneclick. It always stops at step 6 no matter what I try. Other machines, rebooting, start with admin rights. simply nothing.
Usb debugging off made kies recognize the phone but still unable to complete root.
I know, I started a thread with different problem and am now facing a new and different one. But I really owe you a lot for the time you put into helping me to figure out my priblem

[Q] 2.3.5 root issue phone not recognized and wifi problemas well please help

Hi so I recently followed a page on androidadvices.com to update the firmware to 2.3.5 on att i777 and was successful. if u google it u can check it out, i cant links yet. noob
Then I followed another page to root it on the same website. (-galaxy-s2-i777-gingerbread-235-firmware/[/url]). I then flashed the kernel included in the download file and know it worked because the yellow triangle comes up on boot. phone works. but w/ 2.3.5 the wifi turns off after 5 seconds. any help
main issue - trying to root. next step calls for superoneclick. got stuck at "waiting for device" as if it didnt recognize it. then i downloaded s2 root and tried that and it said 'phone not connected plug it in and try again'. thought it was a driver issue so i downloaded newest drivers and kies is up to date.
help please i want to root it and how would i get it back to normal? can i flash a regular kernel back through odin?
much thanks

[Q] Read all the posts I can find and I still can't flash with odin! Please help!

Hi everyone,
I brought a new galaxy s2 phone about 4 weeks ago and it has spent most of that time soft bricked since I tried to update it to the newest firmware, K14....
I am using windows 7 starter, 32bit. I have installed kies, uninstalled and re-installed kies, tried uninstalling kies and just using the drivers.
Recently I did a clean install of windows, installed kies, as more drivers seem to be recognized and downloaded odin v1.85. I restart the computer, start task manager end all processes that say kies, run odin as a administrator, put the tar file in pda, only auto reboot is selected. I then plug in the phone, in download mode, wait for yellow box and press start and the process only goes as far as boot.bin.
I have tried all of my usb ports and the only difference is the number of the modem installed driver and how far along odin gets. With two ports it only goes as far as setup connection which was as far as anything went before I re-installed windows. I have replaced the usb cable and made sure the phone battery is fully charged. The phone was put into usb debugging mode before it was bricked. I have attached a picture of what drivers get installed when I plug in the phone. The firmware I am attempting to flash is the uk 3 version off the firmware page of this website.
Please can somebody give me the solution it is driving me nuts!
Sorry for waffling but I figure you need to know what I've tried so that I don't waste anybodies time.
Thanks guys
Did you try a different stock rom? Did you try a different pc? Or if you want to, flash a CF-root kernel. Then boot in recovery and flash a rom of your choice.
The flashcounter will start and stock roms can't be flashed this way (at least as far as I know).
Is your phone a I9100 model?
I ask this to make sure you are trying to flash the correct firmware for your device.

Hi Lenny,
Yh, i have tried it on my desktop which runs 7 home premium. Clean install with same results. Tried the K14 firmware a few times but that never got any further than setup connection. Don't understand the rest of your post sorry. Can you do a flash for dummies thing? And is there a firmware you would recommend trying?
@ aceofclubs -the box says i9100 and so does the sticker in the back.
@ JJEgan - the first cable I used was the one in the box and while the one I have replaced by ebay, they had good feedback. The K14 firmware was given to be by a user of the galaxy s2 that he had successfully flashed with.
Does the phone look to have installed correctly, the guy who gave me the firmware said he had abd appear in device manager, which I haven't got. Also after the phone is finished installing drivers if I click in the system tray, the green icon that shows devices that are present is not there and neither is the phone but if I go into device manager samsung composite device is.

No you dont need a ADB neccesarily for flashing. ADB (Android Debug Bridge) is a tool that comes with the Android SDK that allows you to control and interface with your Android device. Well do u have the phone specifications before bricking it, like Model No, Built, CSC, Kernal Etc.
First try to uninstall Kies and Install the latest version, so that you have the latest drivers.
Check the Intratech thread on Stock ROM ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1075278) and download the correct rom.( I presume you have I9100 Intenational Version of S2). Open Odin 1.85, do not change any options, brownse and put the stock rom u downloaded into the PDA section and click on start button, you should be good.PM me if you have any issues.
The above didn't work. Here's what I got:

AS you have the yellow box in Odin you have the drivers all the firmware in that link works .
run odin as a administrator, put the tar file in pda, only auto reboot is selected. I then plug in the phone, in download mode, wait for yellow box and press start
Lets do this the right way just to be sure . Open Odin put the tar file in PDA
go to download mode at first screen download mode on phone follow instruction ( vol up from memory ) after next screen connect Samsung USB cable to phone and PC .

Thanks, think I've done that anyway but, just to check, what do you mean by next screen?
The screen when you are in download mode and press volume up.
Yh that is what I'm doing, thanks tho. Can someone please give me a reliable link to an older version of Odin to try? At the mo I am using v1.85, this the latest version?

So close! I plugged the phone in and got as far as cache with the green progress bar showing just the tiniest bit. Left it for over an hour but the bar didn't move at all! Encouraged I restarted the computer to try again only to find that now the computer and odin won't recognize the phone until I uninstall and reinstall kies and always hangs on cache. I restarted in the first place as the phone never shows in the system tray. Sorry to be a bore but have you any idea why everyone else can plug in and flash and my machines refuse to! I welcome any ideas you have. Thank you.
Instead of Odin, you could try Heimdall. Maybe that will work for you.

hey hope everyone had a good christmas and new year. Still no joy, where do I get PIT files to flash with the newest version of heimdall to go with our firmware? The newest version won't let me add files until I enter a PIT. I tried version 1.1 but I couldn't get it to recognise a compatible device.
On the odin front: I thought I'd cracked it. It started flashing, took hours but I had half a green progress bar and then it just seem to freeze. Also this seems replicable a few times and then I get stuck at setup connection again. I then have to do a system restore to get it to flash to the furthest point again. Does this give anyone any clues? Or does anyone know of any heimdell packages I could try? And the long shot, any way of getting firmware on to an sd card and flashing that way when a phone is soft bricked?
Sorry if I'm annoying you but there has to a way round this. I brought a rooted one to use while this is sorted, love the phone but need to know I can update and be able to sort it out if things go wrong.
Thanks again for your help and suggestions.

un advice please!thanks.

Hello!
First I want to tell you that are new on this forum and wish you a Happy New Year!
I am the owner of a GT-I9100 Samsung S2 Galaxy a few months, was branded by Orange Romania.
Yesterday I wanted to make him ROOT indicated in the forum they have found.
Everything went well the first step, with Odin, after restarting my phone remained on the screen S2 Galaxy <Samsung GT-I9100> and below yellow triangle with an exclamation mark.
I went to step 2, .... and <Waiting SuperOneClick device> after 10 minutes nothing happened .... so remained.
I clicked on the window and he appeared in the top left corner, after the program name (Not Response), that something is stuck somewhere.
I tried to resume operations, but without succes.
Can anyone tell me how to flash it or how I can put a ROM you can use something?
All I can tell you is that Kies was the last version and the phone was updated daily by Kies. (Unfortunately not noted version)
You advised me to do?
What I have to say is that in some versions of ROM writing software gives me error and squares is red. (That in ODIN).
Thank you in advance.
Your best bet is to start again from the beginning. You can find branded and unbranded firmware here...
Unbranded firmware
Branded firmware
Flash one of them using Odin (as instructed in the thread where you download), but make sure that nothing associated with Kies is running. (Open task manager, look at processes and kill everything that begins with kies.)
Once your phone is working okay, to root just use this very simple method...
Easy Rooting Toolkit
First of all does your computer have the Samsung drivers installed and/or adb drivers?
If you want to root the easiest way is to flash a kernel, cf root is recommended for rooting you can flash this via odin.
This will give you Cwm recovery so you can flash roms via recovery on your phone.

Guys ... do not laugh at me, but now another problem arose.
First I want to thank those who have answered me.
So ... let me tell you. Finally I managed to pass the problem occurred, but now appeared to me another. I managed to i9100XWKDD_i9100XXKDH_i9100OXXKDC_HOME.TAR satrec error and install the phone.
All well and good SWITCH only lasted a lot, about 15 minutes after the restart after installation.
Once started I did a hard reset.
At the start I have seen a lot of lines written in red so a lot of errors.
Finally they did not want to restart my phone, I only appear GT-I9100 Samsung Galaxy SII and NO yellow triangle.
Did not want to do anything. After about 10 minutes I decided to try again with Odin. Now it's surprise, the ODIN not want to recognize my phone ..... can not do anything with phone ODIN!!
When the download get in step (volume down + home + power) Were it says "current binary: OFFICIAL SAMSUNG" is this a problem? Before there was writing "binary power: CUSTOM"
Unfortunately the PC does not recognize the phone when the USB stick, I say it's not recognized.
What can I do?
Can I do anything with it at home? Or should it go on it for service?
What would I be able to attempt to revive it?
Once again thank you in advance.

Hi!
It seems that the PC recognizes other devices when connected.
The only explanation is that something happened in the phone.
In order to reboot, I only appear in red script.
It seems only able to make phone to communicate with any PC.
The only way is to make micro SD card.
At the "Volume Up + HOME + POWER" gives me the opportunity to do reboot or update using the SD card.
Can anyone explain to me how to do? And we need that?
Thank you.
