So I am a complete programming noob. I have a great concept with many great ideas involved. I think I can probably figure out how to do some of it but the big part I am having some issues trying to figure out. Below is an image I will use to illustrate my concept and what I am needing help with.
{

"lightbox_next": "Next",

"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
So here is what I would like to do...
1) When the app starts for the first time, the main tab (Called "Garden") will be displayed and have a couple boxes where the person could enter the length and width of their garden. Once completed a brown box, much like the one above, will be displayed on the screen showing their "garden". It would be best if all things that were displayed in/on the garden would also be sized in proportion to the garden size.
2) All aspects of the garden need to be able to be edited at any time. This means...
a. Shape and size of garden can be changed. Notice the little notch in the bottom of the garden above? It would be nice if these types of little details could be placed simply by clicking somewhere on the garden boarder and moving your finger or even putting it in by typing in the size of the notch and how far it is from one of the corners and letting the app just place it in based on those numbers.
b. I would also like the actual vegetables to be able to be edited allowing those who use special seeds, heirloom, etc. to be logged. This I would want to be executed by pressing and holding on the image of the vegetable. If possible, every instance of a tomato image though would have to be unique, thus allowing the growing of multiple tomato plants but each of them being a different variety if that makes sense. In addition the other option when pressing and holding the image/icon of the plant would give the option to delete it from the garden.
3. On the left hand side of the garden is one idea of how I might like things to be arranged. So once I get all the information about each vegetable put into the app, I want it to be able to incorporate some of the details. Let me explain. So lets say you have a garden 8ft x 8ft and you want to grow some tomatoes and corn. You select the tomato and tap the screen where you want to plant them, BUT each tomato plant must be no less than 3' apart. This also means that the corn you plant next to it needs to be 3' from it so that the required distance tomatoes need will be honored. Of course I am thinking of this also being a "setting" that can be disabled if they so choose, but will be set by default to do this. So each time you plant something, an image/icon of the vegetable will be shown so you can see what it is. On the flip side, I would also like to make it so that (unless the setting is disabled) the app will not let you plant 3 tomato plants within an 8' span since they need to be 3' apart. I want the app to be "smart"
4. The second idea (draw your attention to the right side of the image) is if you plant in rows, an image/icon will show on the top of the row to show you wants planted along with a number in the image showing you how many of that plant are planted in the row. If you notice on the opposite end of the row where the black dot is, this is the end of that row. The reason for the black dot is not just to be a symbol for "the end of the row" but I would like it to be a way of sizing the row to either be longer or shorter. A person could press and hold the dot and then slide one way or another to either grow or shrink the row. Also as the row grows or shrinks I would like the number to change dynamically on the fly as the slider is going one way or another to show the number of plants in the row.
I know this is a lot and Im not asking one to do all the work or anything for me. As I also stated I am a complete programming noob loaded with all sorts of good ideas and wanting to really develop this app out of desire and necessity. Any help on this and how to incorporate this and get on track with it would be very much appreciated.
Thank you all so very much in advance.
After 48 hours, 41 views and seeing a post where there were more than 200 views and only 1 reply, I cant help but think that I'm on my own in figuring this out. I also cant help but to think that XDA may be so huge that the community here is not able to to thoroughly and effectively keep up with itself. So I thank you very much for making some of these things clear, even though I do know as a noob I am asking a lot in my original post, but not so much that not a single "here is a great link to get some knowledge of doing those things." couldn't have been done. So it would seem I am on my own to figure this out and that perhaps this is not the best forum, not just the etiquette but its un-able-ness to help with these matters in any way, so I will try to find what I am looking for elsewhere.
Thank you very much for everything
You are asking for what seems a lot. You need to learn Java. Mess with the code. When you have an issue present it. Most people ignore posts when it seems the OP hasn't even tried to help themselves. Try asking a more simple question. Get that answer and continue from there.

I saw this and ignored it for various reasons, the main one it seems like you have an idea but want somebody else to do all the work. An idea is not great or anything else it is nothing more than an idea.

Well I will say I am new to this and have not done any kind of java coding before and any of the coding experience I do have is some JS/PHP/HTML/CSS type stuff, and not a whole lot of it. Anyway I am not meaning for someone to do the work but even some ideas on how to approach a project like this or how to get started in coding this is really what Im looking for. I in no way would ask someone to do the work for me only to claim it as my own. I guess to put it in simple terms, im looking for the guidance to get me facing the right direction and have some understanding of what I need to do, not to hold my hand or do the work for me, if that makes any sense? lol
Thanks for the replies and input.

Can anyone make a Halo Reach boot animation? id really appreciate it.
I've seen more than one person asking for this one, so thought I'd throw one out there for you guys. I've actually never even played the game, but just happened to see a clip on YouTube of the upcoming game and thought you might enjoy a bit of it. Too lazy to make a preview GIF, so you'll just have to give it a try. Beggars can't be choosers and all that.

Tryin it now.been trying to make one but no luck any tipz?

Sent from my desire200 using XDA App
Sorry, never really got the hang of the sound and didn't want to put the effort into it. I use a YouTube downloader, AVS Video converter, and Renamer to do most of the work for me. After that, it's just a matter of finding which frames will look the best and bundling it up into a zip file with the desc.txt. If you need more detailed instructions, just PM me so we don't fill the thread with questions. Glad you like it though!
Could anyone make a boot animation of the Halo 1 loading screen, just sped up? That would be sick.
Picky picky Give me a link to a video from like Youtube, Google Video, Metacafe, etc and maybe I will work on it Wednesday if no one else gets to it. Finding the right video that I think will look good usually takes me the longest of any part of making it.
I couldn't find a HQ version of the Halo 1 loading screen, but I found this HD version of the Halo 3 one, which would work just as well.
Thanks man.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=daLvkZqsVR8
No problem. I will check it out later. Depends on how much homework my girlfriend has tonight as to whether I start it today or tomorrow. Should be easy enough though. Is this something that you want short and looped or a longer section of the vid?
I'd like pretty much the whole thing, after the menu fades away. Just sped up, of course.
Edit: And I found this really slick loading screen, perhaps if it was slowed down it would look just as fantastic? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lbD5EDqRRAM&feature=related You don't need to make both unless you feel like it, but I'd rather have the new second video than the Halo one haha.
You're lucky I just happened to scroll down and see your last message as I was downloading the other one you posted I'm just starting on it now. I drank an energy drink not too long ago so probably will finish it before I go to bed lol.
Alright, fading fast now...energy drink ran out heh. So here is what I got then: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/9903887/bootanimation3.zip
Make sure you rename it to just bootanimation.zip before you put it in your /system/media folder. I had to name it that due to having a couple of other ones in my dropbox. Anyway, got all of the loading screen in there and threw in a Halo pic for the last screen, I dunno if I like it or not though lol. Let me know if you me to change the frame rate and/or the last pic. It's easy and won't take but a minute or 2. I'm just too tired to keep playing with it at the moment. Enjoy.

To be fair, this IS a thread for a Halo animation... I will PM you in a bit as I am working on it now. If you want, and you use gTalk, say hey. I can be found using my screen name @ gmail.
I love it, but I didn't really want any Halo references I know, I know it's a Halo thread and it's off topic but w/e.
Oh, sorry, thought you wanted that thrown in. All you need to do at this stage, is unzip the file, put whatever picture that you want the last frame to be (this will "loop" until the phone finishes booting) in folder part1 instead and rename it to boot_00XXX with the XXX standing for one more than whatever the last one in the folder part0 is. I don't remember off the top of my head. I hope that makes sense. So if there are 350 pics in the part0 folder, the last one will say boot_00350 so then you would make YOUR pic in folder part1 say boot_00351. Then rezip with No (or Store, depending on your zip program) Compression and then you're golden.
I've got the Halo Reach version that was ported to the EVO 4G for the Hero if you're interested. Sound and animation match up pretty well but scaled down to run at 240 by 320 @ 40 fps. Message me if you're interested otherwise follow thread here by Crackanug and Tiffany84:

Well, that's the beauty of an open system like Android. You can make whatever you want. If you can do better, then do better or STFU.
Why post your work on a forum if you can't take criticism?
The matching misfits font makes you seem like a try-hard in my eyes. The red glow on red text looks weird since the text doesnt have a black outline. Oh and the mirrored effect on the bottom is cut off too, what's the deal with that?
Anyway, all I was trying to do was give some recommendations and even thanked you for the effort. Stop crying

Hey man, I apologise for my post. I broke a bone in my hand on Thursday and my hand and arm were throbbing major so I was a little cranky. That and the pain meds ****ed me up a little. I was a little inebriated at the time. So, I'm sorry for my post. I appreciate your criticism and liked how yours turned out too.
I think you 2 are very confused if you think theres anyone posting their work here looking to be critiqued, people post their work here to share, its a pretty simple concept. this isn't a thread with anything under a beta development where the devs looking for flaws, it's a custom designed splash screen! It looks like you came in here criticized someones efforts and explained how it would be better looking for you, and then posted what you wanted it to look like. Maybe you shoulda just made your own thread or atleast had enough respect for the forum and what it's meant for or and at the very least at least asked if it was ok to post yours. And as long as 1 persons opinions is as important as anothers and seeing as how you forced your splash into this thread I think I'll critique it, to me it looks like you copied a standard image and resized it and called it a splash screen rather than taking a little effort like that OP seemed to have done, yours lacks creativity and would fail to impress anyone I know into the Misfits, but thank you for your attempt, hope you accept that critique in the same manner you're asking the OP to accept yours Thta's some cold a** s*** going into a thread criticizing a new members 1st piece of work then posting yours, Im so shocked that you think thats why this exists and what a forum is meant for, honestly are you serious? Pretty sure helping is the goal of almost everyone here, these roms and files are free so I would have to say yes definitely
@OP: Sorry too man, I honestly didn't mean anything bad by post, I was just giving my opinion on how to improve it but I guess that other guy is right, how it would look better is just a matter of opinion so my bad. I can remove the one I made too, this is your thread. Just let me know
@castuis: Yeah you have a point, I went about it wrong. I didn't mean for that first post to sound ****-ish, I'm just very blunt when I type stuff sometimes. Anyway, I still stand by what I said about being criticism. I mean I get that this forum is all about sharing and all that jazz but really, even if no one slapped a 'beta' label onto a project thread there are still hundreds of requests and/or ideas for future development and I think that's what I did, albeit in the wrong way. If OP wants me to remove my splash screen I'll do so no problem. And thanks for your criticm as well, but The Misfits' logos are pretty minimilistic so I don't see how mine would fail to impress. Without using album art there's not much to do besides use the misfits font, which I did. Whatever though, I liked it.

So i just installed this rom and now i have red dots over certain icons in my apps screens. Pics below for clarification:

Any idea how to get rid of these? I've seriously tried everything that i can think of to no avail. Thanks.

Did you use Foxhound for i900 by mistake?
Seriously...
Open app drawer then go to settings and remove the "dots" which are to show running apps.
Also that is TW 4.5 if you search for it you will see the features/bugs etc for it.

You seem annoyed by my question. I apologize for owning my Android for all of 3 weeks and not being an expert on a rom that I just installed last night and not knowing every bug for TW 4.5. I'm sure every Android user that has used TW, including yourself, has made sure to read the bug lists fully before they interact each specific version, and I apologize for not doing that.
My complete lack of knowledge on all things Android is utterly embarrassing as I'm quite sure you had everything down pat after 3 weeks. It makes me feel bad that you had to waste all of 2 minutes of your time to type that suggestion, that actually ended up working. I'm very sorry sir, but thank you for the solution. I will try to improve my Android excellence over the coming years so you will never have to "Seriously..." answer a question on these boards again.

actually. it is an expectation that you read The entire OP before flashing anything or asking questions about it. Because most of the time your answer is already in the OP. and to start a new thread about something that is already answered elsewhere or right in front of your face is kind of ridiculous and creates clutter. If you don't want to read a little before flashing something you shouldn't flash anything at all. This is just some advice so that you can have a good experience around here on XDA.
Cool things to do.

I did read everything on the page of the rom that I flashed and saw absolutely nothing on the subject of red dots appearing over app icons. I also used TW with my stock rom for a couple of days and the dots never appeared either. I also did a forum search for "red dots" and "red dots over icons" as well as numerous google searches and nothing came up.
Honestly if answers to everything on this forum are supposed to be so simple to find (they aren't) and right in your face (they aren't)...then what is the point of this Q&A forum when the veteran members are just going to act annoyed and you're going to get told to "read the threads" (something I already did).
I can't even post in the rom thread since I'm a new member so this was my only option. I guess I will just apologize again for being an Android noob and apparently an XDA forum noob as well.
You can't post in Dev because you need at least 10 posts to do so, something a little reading would have told you and can be easily fixed by posting in the Off Topic forum to get your post count up. Everyone in here is a volunteer and this is not the Help Desk. No one owes you anything, so before you continue sounding like an entitled punk I suggest you count yourself lucky to have gotten the right answer and just move on.

I was able to "open as text" in Root Explorer to modify the original file. Saving the file from there automatically created a .bak of the original.

My question is why would you want to disable them? If a presidential alert was ever issued I think you'd definitely want to know about it as they are not issued often at all.
Sent from my SCH-I605 using Tapatalk 4 Beta
On my old Droid X I used to get Emergency Alert System Tests under the "Presidential Alert" heading. They were obnoxious. Not to mention the fact that I simply don't use my phone that way and prefer to get my emergency preparedness alerts from other sources. Oh, and I also have a real problem with .gov cramming this useless nanny-state garbage down my throat.
You want your "[propaganda] alerts" that's fine, don't turn them off. Some people want them turned off and the link above explains how.
That's strange that you got common EAS tests, as I have never received one in my history of owning a smart phone or any phone for that matter. I think it would be a wise idea to keep them on there just in case you are not around "other sources" if something crazy happened. Just my two cents. But thanks for the contribution, I am sure there are other people that feel the same way.
Are we supposed to believe any message that comes through those alerts?
You guys do as you want, I just hope not tax payer money will be spend rescuing you after you fail to heed the warnings.

lol yet taxpayer money goes out to pay for the systems to send these texts out. i don't need a text to get a tornado warning; there's 2893489234893 weather apps on android that do it, along with the fact i own a weather radio that specifically alerts me for it. i don't need my cellphone to do it from the government.

Welt it never hurts. The weather apps I find can have a delay and if a tornado is rilling my way id like to have as much warning as I can get and as many warnings.

In all the time I've been a smartphone user, I've gotten test alerts every once in a good while, and the only emergencies I've ever gotten was several flood warnings, despite the fact that in that realm of time we even had tornado emergencies and ZERO EAS alert on my phone.
This shouldn't even be a conversation. If you statist sheeple want your paranoia alerts no one is stopping you. Yet you have this retarded mental breakdown that those of us capable of self reliance and critical thinking need to be convinced to see things your way. You just can't deal with the fact that your view isn't the only one, can you?

Not really, it's just tinfoil hat club conspiracy theorists like you that have to denouce a tested and proven method of keeping the general populace safe. Did you throw your FM radio out the window when it started giving weather alerts?

Looks like the oxygen is pretty thin up there on your high horse.
It's ironic that you mention critical thinking skills because your rant is clearly and concisely demonstrative of a lack of said skills. You may want to study up on logical fallacies because you've relied on them heavily.

I was able to "open as text" in Root Explorer to modify the original file. Saving the file from there automatically created a .bak of the original.

The reason nobody is agreeing with you is not because of your stance, it's because of your attitude. Even the people that would normally agree with your point of view most-likely closed the topic and shook their head because you're coming across like a spoiled teenager telling his parents he doesn't need their help and wants to do things his own way.
If you don't want the alerts: Wonderful; however, calling people that see a need for the alerts (or at least understand the reason for them) statist sheeple and [mental retards] is beyond reprehensible.
Oh, and read najaboy's response...then do a google search for logical fallacies. It's like you're just going down the list while creating your argument and demonstrating every one.

Just wanted to point out that this is not a "Presidential" alert, it's an "Extreme" alert, which ARE able to be unchecked by default.
I usually am really good with words. But this thread has left me quite speechless... Closed before the President reports anymore weather....
I would like to think I'm pretty well informed. I browse the forums and did my homework before getting my G3, but yesterday I stumbled upon an article (I think it was "7 Things You Need to Know About Your G3") that showed a little trick that I hadn't seen mentioned the whole time I've been reading about the phone. When your Recents Panel is open if you pinch out slightly it will change from the small cluttered screens (I think it's 3x3) to a more zoomed in usable list (2x2) and if you pinch out even more it will go to the single column view!
I figured if I hadn't realized this yet there was bound to be a few others who didn't get the memo as well! (kind of like the hidden plastic tie-fighter on the power/volume buttons) Or if I WAS the only one then disregard my ignorance and have a nice day! :silly:

Yea I had read that article before, but it doesn't mention what I was talking about with the Recent Apps. Before yesterday hadn't seen any mention of it. Here's what I was talking about (number 4 on the list) http://blogs.computerworld.com/android/24192/lg-g3-tweaks
My bad. I didn't review that page before linking to it. Still it's good info.

Funny you mentioned this. I was also browsing around the other day and saw this could be done. Definitely a lot easier to deal with once you resize it.
We're chasing down WakeLocks and killing services and receivers yet had no idea that such a simple thing with Recents could be done lol

Thanks for posting this guys, showed me and my wife a few things we hadn't found.
I guess RTFM is way out of fashion. But I still downloaded the manual and put it in my Google Books for bedtime reading.

That's what's so awesome about smart phones is you can know exactly what you're doing with it but still overlook some neat little trick like this. Glad I could help you out! Plus looks way better once you zoom it in too. Less chaotic lol

No problem, glad I could help! Honestly I was surprised that I hadn't accidentally zoomed it in too before I knew it was possible.
