Hi, Id like to flash some custom roms (AOKP, PARANDROID,...) but im not sure if i can.
Im new to SGS II and i have few questions, but first my specs:
SGS II (i9100) - not branded. czech i think its XEZ
Stock rom - ICS 4.0.4
ROOOTED via CF kernel v5.6
Kernel version: 3.0.15-19100XWLPU-CL975203
Build number: IMM76D.XWLPU
1) can i flash XWLPU roms only?
2) is it safe to flash any other rom than XWLPU?
3) if i flash some rom, do i have to flash kernel or roms have kernel in themselves
4) can i flash any other ORIGINAL firmware than XWLPU?
Thanks

1) No, you can install whatever ROM you want.
2) Yes, but follow carefully the installing guide to avoid issues
3) Some ROMs have their own kernel, others not, but you can get a look at the index of kernels for the S2 and decide which to install.
4) Yes, but they respond differently to your hardware. XWLPU may work fine, but for example XXLPG may work very bad, but nobody knows that, you have to try.
You are on 4.0.4.
My first and Most important Question!
Are you aware of emmc Superbrick Bug?
Peace
Hit Thanks & It will Disappear

but it is matter of kernels isnt it?

now you are 100% safe.
You can now flash whatever ROM whatever custom ROM you want.
First, you need to create a Nandroid backup via CWM recovery.
- boot to CWM recovery
- Backup and restore
- Backup to internal/external SD ( depends on whichever one you prefer)
Backup uses about 500MB - 1.5Gig depending on the size of your apps

ensure him that backup with latest siyah is quite diff from the earlier thing
here it will be all in bits and pieces in a blob folder and cannot be restored in any older version of CWM for sure
hence u can select the backup format method inside the 'backup and restore' once in recovery as tar(default) instead of 'dup'

Crucio may be right. Looks a lot like touch CWM to me (looks exactly the same as mine). However, if you look at the log of what happened on the screen, it's gone thru every SGS2 variant it has in its checklist & seemed to fail to find all/any of them, sooo...
That would tend to suggest the firmware attempting to be flashed isn't for/doesn't work with any of those phones in that list.

Seems like something may have broken since you flashed a i777 rom on your i9100 phone. Use odin and flash a rom (stock, cm, or other odin flashable roms)
just realised by mistake I flashed different rom and it changed my model number to SGH-i777
how to go back on i9100?

hmm, the rom you linked and installed is for AT&T which is a wrong selection...
if your CWM is not allowing you to install any other rom only option left is ODIN,

For now, it would probably best to restart from stock, just in case.
Download this or other official ICS:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1544487
Instructions are there, so just read that. Then go to chainfire kernels for root and CWM.
Chainfire kernel:

Hello guys,
I got Samsung Galaxy SII I9100 with cm9 (see attached file).
I want to flash a custom LPU rom (SPEEDMOD K3-31 kernel based), and I got some question before I do that
First, I need to flash the SPEEDMOD K3-31 kernel using Odin and then the rom from recovery, right?
After some reading in here, I found out that my kernel is stock based (really?). Does it mean that the "wipe data" function may hard-brick my phone?
I think I'm a bit confused - I've seen too many different ways to do this
Thanks!

from your screenshot, it shows you are presently on CM9.
CM9 has root access and CWM recovery by default so there is no need to flash Speedmod kernel via Odin first.
I assume you are presently on CM9 and you wish to flash a Custom Stock LPU (ICS 4.0.4) ROM, which has Speedmod as its kernel.
Follow these steps:
# don't flash Speedmod kernel via Odin.
1. Boot to CWM recovery
2. Wipe data/factory reset
3. Format /system (under mount and storage)
4. Flash Your custom ROM
5. Reboot phone.
Done

Your current Rom's kernel, is Cm kernel. It's very safe.
Your new ROM's kernel will be flashed together with the Rom. So there is no need to flash the kernel again.
To confirm this,
After flashing the new ROM, check the Rom details.

Any 4.0.4 custom ROM that uses any of the above kernels is 100% safe.

1. Alliance ROM uses "Safe 4.0.4 kernel from Ficeto" .
I think it's safe, since the OP said so. But if you are not comfortable with it just flash another custom kernel.
2. Wanamlite 12.4
-it uses CF-ROOT kernel. The OP himself is not sure about the safety of the kernel and warned that people should not wipe after flashing 12.4
My advise,
If Wanamlite 12.4 is your choice, please flash another safe custom kernel immediately. It's better to be safe than sorry.
3. Sensation Rom
Sensation Rom version 4 is not yet out. Therefore I can't say anything about it.
Note: if you have any plans to flash Siyah kernel after flashing any ICS 4.0.4 stock based custom ROM, then you must flash 3.5.2 and above.
Siyah kernel below 3.5.2 are not fully compatible with stock ICS 4.0.4; the camera app will not work.

1. are you referring to this ROM? if yes, then no problem, you can flash it.
2. You don't need to flash any custom kernel, the Omega Rom uses CF- root already. I said it in my point no 5, in previous post

- Omega ROM clearly states ICS (Ice cream Sandwich) 4.0.3 XWLPG. Do no you are not in JB. You will still need to upgrade to Jellybean after flashing Omega ROM

yes yes what i meant was after flashing Omega Rom, my SGS2 GTI9100 is ready to be flashed with jellybean rom.
anyway, i already flashed Omega Rom v15, NOW my phones' description is:
GT-I9100
android version 4.0.3
baseband version I9100XXLPX
kernel version: [email protected]#3
build number Omega v15 - XWLPG
i thought according to ROM's decription my kernel should be CF-root LPG or are they the same? should i flash a different kernel before upgrading to jellybean?
i saw this cool JB rom PARANOIDANDROID v2.1
ill just follow their instructions on how to install it right?
i saw this on samsung galaxy s2 GTI9100 threads so, ill assume that this is compatible wiht my device...
sorry for asking too many questions, i just wanted to make sure and hear from your expertise before proceeding
thanks again

Yeah, very compatible. You are good to go.
Since the kernel have CWM recovery, there is no cause for alarm.
Follow the flashing instructions on first page of the Rom.
I'm running ParanoidAndroid too

I've tried flashing a few ROMs but the camera and the gallery keeps saying that there is no external storage available. But I do have a 32g mic SD card in there. I thought that I did a bad flash but I redid it 3 different times with different roms n have the same issue that the camera and gallery does not work

I've already answered your question the Paranoid thread
Hello.
I have been a member since like 6 months. I purchased my Samsung Galaxy SII from Oman in the Middle East. I had rooted it a while back by flashing an insecure kernel. Now I can't seem to update to ICS, I tried flashing the original firmware back but still no luck with the update.
I would really like some help as to how to update to ICS now. And before you call me a noob I have researched how to do it every way possible so just wanted to get some feedback on the best way possible?
On all the ICS threads there is no ICS firmware for my PDA. So I just wanted to clarify if it's safe to flash a firmware with a different PDA?
If so which one is the best which will result in the least bugs (if those are avoidable that is )? Or should I skip this and just flash a JellyBean firmware? If so which one?
Im sorry for all the questions or if they seem very noobish but I have been searching all the threads and can't find a proper answer. If someone could help me it will be greatly appreciated .
My phone is a Samsung Galaxy SII ( I9100 )
PDA - I9100JPKJ2
PHONE - I9100XXKI4
CSC - I9100OJPKJ1
Thanks in advance.
And love the work you guys do here. Really awesome .

ICS update
Hey I checked that link but there is no ICS firmware for my PDA ( JPKJ2 ).
So what I basically wanted to clarify is that if it's safe or me to flash a firmware with a different PDA. Like the one you showed in the second link? And the jellybean flashing works fine? The firmware is stable?
Thanks in advance.

Why don't you flash ICS 4.0.3 for United Arab Emirates?
Here's the link.
It'll not be advisable to flash the leaked JellyBean, as it isn't very stable. Sometimes the home Launcher force-closes in JB and the lockscreen hangs. So use ICS for now. And it doesn't matter which PDA version you have on your phone... those versions keep changing as new ROMs are out. But don't forget to backup your data before flashing!
Cheers!:good:
Thanks a lot! Worked flawlessly .
Now to root it which method would be the best and easiest to follow? Or will any of them be fine?
Thanks .

1) Download View attachment CWM-SuperSU-v0.96.zip & View attachment recovery-clockwork-touch-5.8.1.5-galaxys2.zip.
2) Transfer them to your phone's external memory card.
3) Go into stock android recovery by holding "vol up + home + power" buttons. You will see android system recovery 3e.
4) Use volume down button and choose option -"apply update from external storage". After that choose recovery-clockwork-touch-5.8.1.5-galaxys2.zip . It will flash and automatically go into Clockworkmod recovery.
5) In CWM recovery, choose install zip (internal or external sdcard - try and see in which one you find it) and then flash CWM-SuperSU-v0.96.zip .
6) After that reboot your phone and you will have root!

If you're on ICS, flash Siyah in .tar format directly through odin. Although there are more methods to root i find this every easy. Best of luck :good:
BTW, i am too from Oman, Muscat

Usually when there is a zip file its for flashing via recovery mode, not unpacking it and flashing with odin... stupidity is what bricks phones

Oh ok. Cool I'll try one of these. I'm assuming the differences between them all are minor ones right?
Also one last question .
If I wanted to get Jellybean on my phone, do I have to first flash the Jellybean firmware on it or can I just flash one of the custom ROM's online?
Or do the custom ROM's need stock JB to be flashed on the phone first?
Thanks for all the help guys.
