Installed GT 19100 On i777? - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II SGH-I777

Attempted to root my phone today, needed to install CWM, and followed the guide here:
androidauthority.com/galaxy-s2-i777-att-root-clockworkmod-recovery-76868/
Unfortunately, the files they linked to are no good; when I try to boot the phone, it now says GT 19100 under the Galaxy S2 logo, there's a yield sign with an exclamation point in the bottom, and in Odin my phone it shows Epic 4G in the top bar. This leads me to believe I've flashed my phone with the Sprint version of CWM. So far, I've tried flashing the kernel from creepycrawly's download repository, which hasn't worked, and I've downloaded the full .exe of the Stock Binaries; when I click it, my phone doesn't show up. Please help!
Thank you,
M4ple

If you had searched that would show you tripped your flash counter. Also some odins show epic 4g. I know mine did but nothing bad hsppened

Even more important... It isn't from this site directly, so it isn't supported. Stick to stuff in this forum in this section.
Hopefully someone can help you out as I've no clue.

U did nothing wrong except not use xda. As ninja said some Odin versions say epic4g and the yellow triangle and i9100 are because u tripped the flash counter and they were too lazy to make an i777 boot logo.

Lesson learned on that one. I solved my own problem; flashed the Full Binaries from creepycrawly's repository in Odin, phone is working again. I'll be sticking to XDA in the future, and doing a lot more reading up. Thanks everyone, the comments did actually help me figure out what I needed to do!

[Q] Frozen at the Samsung splash screen after running Odin

So I tried to use odin to root my device. I was following a guide on youtube but XDA won't let me post it. I got to where I run odin while my phone is in download mode. Everything goes according to the video, however, when the phone reboots it freezes at the Samsung splash screen with the yellow ! at the bottom. I've tried putting the phone back in download mode and running it through Odin again but the problem is not fixed. Does anyone know how I would go about fixing this?
Try restocking. If you repartitioned you may be in trouble. Go to cm7 website and follow their instructions.
Sent from my GT-P1000 using XDA App
I made sure the repartition option wasn't selected before I ran odin in both cases. I'm assuming by CM7 you mean cyanogenmod? Sorry for the ignorance, I just want to make sure I'm doing what I need to to get it back in working condition
Dont know why should you go to cm7 website.
Follow this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1103399
use an appropriate kernel for your phone.
Or get a stock kernel and use odin to flash: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1075278
Still not working? Use this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1108499

I've got no idea what boxhead72 is going on about, but anyway, to be able to help you, we need to know what you've done. Generally, you need to make sure you're flashing a correct ROM/kernel/modem for your device. You also might need to reset to factory settings. But without knowing what you've done, it's impossible to say.
You can find stock ROMs and a guide for I9100 (if that is your phone's model) in Intratech's thread here: [ROM+Guide]Official i9100 Firmwares KG, KH1/2/3/4, KI1/2/3/4/8, KJ1/2 Download.
On the plus side, if you can get to the boot screen, you are far better off than those who get NOTHING. I know it doesn't make you feel that good right now, but if you can get this far, your chances of recovery (if you follow instructions) are near 100%.
If you told us that you get no response at all from the phone when the power button was pressed, you might have room to worry a bit.
Now, not so much. Just take a minute to breathe and read through your steps as outlined in the above mentioned threads. You'll be fine in all likelihood.
Okay, I did some more searching and realized I was on the completely wrong forum... I have the AT&T U.S. I777 Galaxy S2. So exactly what I did was install kies, close out of it, put my phone into download mode, connect it to my computer, install what I assume was an incorrect .tar file using Odin while it was in download mode, let it reboot and am now seeing it hang at the boots screen with the yellow exclamation mark. I wouldn't mind reformatting it if someone could show me how, but I mainly want to use this guide:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1285894
to root it and install CM7. Could I just run odin again and install the .tar file given in these instructions? Or does it not quite work like that? Thanks for all the help you guys are giving by the way!

I don't know anything about that phone, but a quick look in those forums shows:
[Heimdall][Odin][Stock][Root]UCKH7 Return/Unbrick to Stock (or Root)
and
[ROM] CyanogenMod 7 for the Samsung Galaxy S II (AT&T) :: V7.1.0 RC1 (9 Oct 2011)
Thanks for those, I was actually reading through them when I noticed you posted them. I have another problem now though, I ran the stock rom through odin in this guide:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1286432
but it failed in Odin and upon reboot it says firmware upgrade encountered an issue. Please select recovery mode in Kies and try again. I didn't know kies had a recovery mode, but when I connect my phone it always fails to connect. Note that I CAN still get into the download menu, but that's it. At this point is there anything else I can do?

I presume Kies recovery mode is in Kies -> Tools -> Emergency firmware recovery.
I noticed that as well but like I said I cannot connect to Kies so any recovery mode isn't very helpful

I guess if you've done everything on [Guide] How to Prepare Your Phone to Return to the Store or for Warranty Replacement (which is linked at the bottom of the thread I linked earlier), then your next port of call should be Recovering an ATT Galaxy S2 after flashing GT-I9100 Firmware.

ICS Root without flashing kernel or having recovery?

My friend has an S2 he wants me to root, and I'm having trouble.
I've tried the one click method from windows computers though they don't seem to work as he is on ICS.
The ICS alternative says reboot to recovery etc, though obviously he doesn't have recovery so I can't do that either.
Of course I'm going to be told to root it via flashing, though while following the guide, the phone soft-bricked and wouldn't turn on (yellow triangle) though luckily I found the Orange UK Restore Package and now it's back to stock!
When I tried to flash it said use the most similar kernel you can find, and so I did, and it didn't work!
The kernel he has is I9100PBVLP6 and there was not an insecure kernel of that available.
Can anyone help?

Your friend has the UK Orange NFC phone. Use LP7 Insecure kernel.
http://download.chainfire.eu/158/CF-Root/SGS2/CF-Root-SGS2_XW_XEN_LP7-v5.4-CWM5.zip?retrieve_file=1
You will have the yellow triangle after flashing and your binary flash counter would have increased by 1.
You can use triangle away to remove the symbol and reset the flash counter to zero.
Or have a look at the Root/Unroot guide in my signature.

That's brilliant! Thanks so much. I'll have to convince him to let me now. He doesn't want me going near his phone again haha
If your friend now doesn't want you to go to near his phone, let him root it himself or live with it the way it is.
Statements like "he obviously doesn't have recovery" when he obviously does lead me to believe you'll only damage his phone anyway.

Why does he obviously have recovery? His phone is exactly how he got it. Unless they give you recovery now? I used to have a Spica (piece of crap) which I had to root in order to get recovery onto it. And he has no idea how to root and his phone is being slow and crashes a lot, so he wants to make it better, I told him a custom ROM would help.

Head over to here: http://www.sammobile.com/firmware/?page=3&t=1&o=1&m=GT-I9100&r=1#regiona, & find the specific firmware for your friends device & flash in PDA via Odin! (no need to find a seperate kernel to flash, as it will be included in the official firmware package!)
At this point you'll have no yellow triangle on your boot up splash screen, & no flash count!
Then head over to here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1501719 & root the device using the instructions given! (you'll need an external sd-card in your device to put the files on for rooting!)
Still no yellow triangle on boot splash screen, & also no extra flash count!
Finally, install Triangle Away from here "IF NEEDED": https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=eu.chainfire.triangleaway&hl=en, & "MAKE SURE" it gives the exact same flash count number as is in download mode, then click "Reset Counter".
Job done, official stock firmware with root (fast, stable & reliable!) with no yellow triangle or flash count visible!
What Samsung official firmware site? Even if such a thing existed why would the custom binary counter go up? Think about it. Also, OP already made it clear he's incapable of following those root instructions, as he apparently (and obviously) doesn't have recovery.

2: As I mentioned in my (helpfull!) post, the method I directed him to uses temporary "Touch CWM Recovery" for him to get into to root!
3: The method he tried was the oneclick method! That's not the method I directed him to! (try reading the post properly before commenting, as you've so graciously pointed out to me in the past!)

Help- I messed up my phone bad (stuck on exclamation mark)

So I decided to root my Samsung S2 i7777. Had years of experience flashing HTC hero and Hp touchpad. Thought this might be straightforward as well. Proceeded to get ODIN and ATTGalaxyS2RootStockZedomaxKernel.tar. Flashed it and got pass. Phone proceeded to reboot and was stuck on the Exclamation mark. Tried restarting but no luck same thing. Initially had CWM coming in when I tried the Volume and Power button trick but could not do anything beyond that.
Then I decided that maybe my flash was not proper with that file so I took the siyah kernel and flashed that. This was a pass as well and then back to...the exclamation mark. Now, I cannot get CWM and retarating the phone with the USB connected lets me get into the Downloading window, but I cannot do anything beyond it.
What can I do? Do I need to flash a ROM- is that why I am stuck? How should I flash the ROM from ODIN- if I do get CWM back, can I put the ROM on the SD card and flash it using CWM?
Please help- I am getting stressed out and if I do recover from this, I am going to take a break from rooting

You shouldn't take a break from rooting. You are just one of a very large group of people that have been blindsided by the galaxys2root website and its rogue developer zedomax. The firmware tools from that site have caused untold problems for people, similar to your problem.
To recover your phone, you need to first flash back to stock. Since you want to root the phone, and ultimately install custom firmware, you should first flash UCKH7 stock plus root package using the one-click downloader which you can get from the guide about how to flash custom binaries without incrementing the flash counter. The link for the guide is in my signature. Read the guide and follow it's directions. That should get you going again. If for some reason you have any trouble, post back here and we'll try to help you out.

Thanks for stopping by. I did not see your post when I posted my reply to the previous poster..I am so worried that I might screw it up more that I wanted to be doubly sure about this. from what I read, I am doing Step 2c as indicated below. Am I correct?
Thanks
2c.) How to root by flashing Entropy512's Return/Unbrick to Stock, Kernel + Rooted System Package with Modem using Odin3 One-Click Downloader (Windows)
UPDATE: I did download the "Odin3 One-Click Downloader Stock I-777 UCKH7 with Root no BL" package and extracted the file. Double clicked on it with the phone connected and all I see are the words I777- UCKH7 with Root with a lot of empty boxes below. Went to Odin and I see the phone connected (Com has yellow box) but nothing else is ticked off. Clicking Start does not do anything at all.
At my wits end- will not get any sleep tonite if I don't fix it.
Thanks in advance
I had a similar thing happen after trying to make a backup of the stock rom with Rom Manager (Yes, I know now, thanks much.)
If you keep trying new kernels/roms and it never clears up, you're pretty much stuck with wiping data. It won't wipe your sdcard, but more and more apps are sticking their data in the phone's memory rather than on the sdcard, so if you can get a backup at all, you really should.
Source: Was up until 2:30 the other night trying to make my phone work again. The above is a GUESS - it's probable I missed something that creepyncrawly wouldn't.
Ok more progress..turned off the phone and started 'I777UCKH7 OCD With Root.exe". Got the same window with lot of empty boxes. Had turned off the phone by this time and disconnected it. Now, I connected the phone and pressed the volume buttons. Phone goes into Download mode. Now, the Odin3 window has a Com port for the phone. Now I press start and it goes through a bunch of things before it declares "FAIL" in red. What do I do?
Evidently, the zedomax product you originally flashed, or perhaps the siyah kernel that you flashed second, has made some undesired modification. I'd like to know exactly which package you flashed for each one of these first before I suggest which way to start correcting the problem. Can you please post working links for each of the two downloads that you used? You should still be fine, and will be able to recover the phone.

The zedomax rooting kernel you flashed first is for Gingerbread version UCKH7, and was posted last October, shortly after the phone was released. If you had UCKH7 on the phone before you flashed that, it should have booted up fine. Most people I have heard about are able to use that rooting kernel successfully. So I need more information in order to be able to trouble shoot your situation.
First, are you sure your phone is SGH-I777, and not SGH-I727?
What firmware was installed on the phone before you flashed the zedomax kernel?
Has any other modification been done on the phone since or even before you had it?
The second kernel you flashed, the Siyah kernel, is an ICS kernel, version 3.4.2. The phone will not boot if the kernel and the system have different versions installed. So I need as much detailed information as possible so know what to do next.

The phone is SGH-I777 from AT&T. (I'll check the phone when I get home and reconfirm) The phone had the ICS installed (through the Kies update) before I (stupidly) tried the Zedomax Kernel. I just bought the phone new so no other modification had been done. After I had installed the Zedomax I had been able to see CWM if I did the power Volume trick but I cannot do it now since I installed the Siyah.
Hope that helps. Let me know if you need more info.

OK. The phone was new, and most likely came with Gingerbread 2.3.6 UCKK6 installed. You updated it using kies to ICS 4.0.3 UCLE5. Just asking for your confirmation here.
Then you tried to root with zedomax kernel, which is a Gingerbread 2.3.4 UCKH7 kernel, which explains why it flashed successfully, but failed to boot, since you can't have a Gingerbread kernel and an ICS system together. You were able to boot into ClockworkMod Recovery in the kernel though. We can't blame this problem on zedomax. That kernel usually works ok. You started modifying your phone before you were familiar enough with the phone and it's firmware. The error of flashing a Gingerbread kernel onto an ICS system was yours.
Next you flashed the Siyah v3.4.2 ICS kernel. This kernel should be compatible with the UCLE5 system files that are on the phone. It seems to me that the phone should now boot, and I'm not really sure from this sequence what might have been altered that prevented the phone from booting and also prevented the Odin flash back to stock from succeeding. The only thing you have flashed so far is two kernels. No other partitions should have been touched.
What kind of error message do you get when you try to boot into recovery mode using vol+ vol- Pwr?

That seems correct (with regards to the sequence of events of the phone).
The error message is just the words "SAMSUNG GALAXY SII GT1900"..with a huge exclamation at the bottom. It stays like that until I do a battery pull.

Please verify this - the screen says "Samsung Galaxy SII GT-I9100" assuming yours was a typo. Yellow triangle with exclamation mark?
This is what you get when you try to boot the phone normally, and also when you try to enter recovery mode using the three button method, vol+ vol- and power?

Yes, that is correct. It was a typo. I get the exclamation mark when I do the normal boot. I am going to confirm this evening if I get the same error with the 3 button method.

Ok, I tried that just now and I got a message 'Firmware upgrade encountered an issue. Please select recovery mode in Kies and try again'. There is an image of a cell phone and computer with an exclamation mark between them

I'm not working from first hand experience, but I'm fairly good at correlating information and making deductions. Something in the sequence of events doesn't add up to me. You're sure you have the I777? You pulled the battery and looked at the label?
At this point any suggestions that I can offer are based on educated speculation. The first thing to try would be to flash an ICS kernel using Odin, but you have already done that. I would suggest that you try that again, but discard the tar you already have and download the tar again, from here. That may be the same place you downloaded it before, not sure. Be sure to use the original USB cable that came with the phone.

You need to read a little more. The i9100 screen is because you have tripped the flash counter. Recovery is holding power and both volumes forever. Then you Factory reset.
Also maybe next time make the thread title something about the problem you're having. HELP isn't really telling much.

ive been trying to read up on it. unfortunatley there are different methods scattered everywhere and confusing. however when i do a factory reset its sticks at gs2 gti9100 screen. if you can point me to a thread that has a fix i'd appreciate it. coming from lg forums, these gs2 forums and fixes are a little confusing to me. i guess because of the different variants of the s2's.
thanks

Not to mention it is also useless for those who respect the forum by doing a search before posting.

thanks for your help 122nijas.... ive tried a "supposedly" aokp rom for gs2 i777 but it doesnt come up after reboot. just hangs at the gs2 i9100 screen. i have tried a couple more but nothing seems to work to get a working driver. to me it seems like if i flash a compatible rom, it should work. i am able to get into cmw fine. on top of that, my backup that i did have that had md5 mismatch is no longer there. so when i connect to my pc and usb and navigate to clockwork mod folder it says file is corrupt. so now i have lost that initial bacup it seems.
so what course of action do you think i should try now?
again thanks for ur help

Need help- yellow triangle/flashing stock rom

hate to admit it, but i need help
my aim is to get to stock jb.
to get there, i wanted to first install cwm, so that i could make a nandroid backup.
i rooted it easily enough, but discovered i hadnt got cwm (i havent done this in a while, last time i did was on a htc desire, and the methods were different).
so i then found a guide for the i9100 (my model) to get cwm.
i downloaded odin and the cwm file, and, selected pda in odin, selected the file, and flashed. odin did its thing, and said successful, but on turning on the phone i just get 'samsung galaxy s2' with a yellow triangle.
it wont boot past that.
it wont boot into recovery now, but i can get into download mode.
i have downloaded the spanish JB firmware from sammobile (I9100XWLSD_I9100FOPLS4_FOP), but inside the zip there is only I9100XWLSD_I9100FOPLS4_I9100XXLS8_HOME.tar.md5
i thought thered be other files?
would someone be so kind as to point me in the right direction.
im currently still at the yellow triangle (after flashing cwm), i dont want to do anything yet, as i dont want to cause any damage.
thanks
Just boot into odin and flash the JB rom via PDA section of ODIN. Then flash Siyah v6 beta 4 again via PDA section.
Once rom has booted install and use Triangle Away to remove yellow triangle.
done, and all is good.
thanks
ok, all was going well until tonight.
the phone turned off, and would not turn on again.
it just gets stuck at the samsung logo.
flashed stock rom with odin- no change.
flashed siyah kernel with odin, it now gets passed the samsung logo, but sticks at the siyah logo.
i can boot to download mode, but not recovery mode.
any help would be appreciated.
Tell us your Galaxy model. Open the battery cover, remove the battery and make a photo.

Thanks so much!!!
Great news then, good luck!
