[SOLVED]GO SMS Pro getting greedy and crappy - Wildfire Themes and Apps

In old versions of GO SMS Pro we could backup sms on SD card. But the later version is insisting on backing up messages to cloud storage service,it's so annoying.
Moreover,I have a backup file in .xml format which I created using GO SMS v4.53 but now i can't restore my messages coz local backup and restore is not supporetd in latest version.
So i uninstalled the app and installed the older version 4.53 but when i click on "SMS B&R" button it redirects me to same "Cloud backup & restore" page.I have also tried v.51 and v.50,when i install them UI gets changed but in every version "SMS B&R" button leads me to same "Cloud backup & restore" page.
I want to revert to an older version to get local backup and restore function enabled so i can restore my msgs from .xml file.
Any idea ?Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

Don't forget to change "play store" settings to "update manually" else it will get updated to the latest version.
You can use Droidwall to restrict GO SMS Pro or some other applications to access internet.
Hope this helps.

Mmmm thats nice...but I dont catch u in the first part, I got the updated one, do I need to uninstall the go sms pro but I wont lose the sms that are already on the phone doing this?
One more thing, I follow the paths as you said and I found that it always installs me the 4.65, and I'm sure I got the one from the link and the UPDATE its not enable

ofcourse I dont have the local backup I cant install 4.50, I still have 4.65, is it necessary to first before install to remove the SD card? I installed with the SD card mount but with the Go sms, removed...
It was really simple hehe, I was not installing the 4.50 cuz... the link of the website that said that it was the "4.50" was really the 4.65 (in case the update think it will change to the lastest version, SOLVED

I suppose you are looking for some alternatives to replace GO SMS Pro.
Handcent SMS and chompSMS are great alternatives.

go sms version 4.66
kill wireless, kill data traffic so the phone is offline
go to restore sms
it will try to connect to cloud and fail
it will inform you there is no connection and "you can try to restore from local if you have a local backup"
restore sms from local backup.
same procedure for local backup and local restore
and yes.. they could have simply explained it somewhere

I want to autobackup daily so it will be hard to do that i think but it is nice idea.

I cannot express enough how much you should check out the app SMS Backup+. I'm not affiliated with it in any way, I just came across it when I was annoyed by GoSMS Pro's sudden requirement of creating an account with them and providing my details. I'm glad they did though, because this app is so much better, much easier and more organized.
It syncs with your Gmail and adds separate labels to store all of your texts for future reference including the date, sender, recipient, number and message. You can even sync your call log to it and it shows duration, etc. plus you can also sync that with Google Calender and it inserts every call into your back calender for future reference. Does it all automatically as soon as texts or calls occur. Fantastic app, and it's free.

Thats OK if you created the cloud account, if not then it does not go past that point, so you do not get the option for the local restore

so what stops you from creating a cloud acc., uploading an empty/fake sms list, and then simply ignoring it the way i described?

SMS folder empty but showing 27 unread

I have a problem with my SMS folder.
It is showing that I have unread messages but the folder is empty.
I know I have recieved messages that I have not read.
Is there a way to read them/export/import them with something else before I hard reset to fix the problem?
Where are they stored and in what format?
Thanks.

If you have restored a backup file using Sprite backup recently this would result in you seeing the read/unread SMS/Email messages without physical data... the only fix that they have come up with is a program to reset all data in your poutlook database, unfortunately erasing your data for good EVEN your email accounts that are present. Their file is attached and is to be ran on the PPC... KNOWING that it will RESET your Pocket Outlook to "factory" defaults, but in turn solve your problem. I think that there was a program to backup SMS messages, maybe you could look into it and see if it helps you before erasing them?
If you have not restored from a backup recently - I cannot help for I do not know.

Thanks,
Yes I have restored from a back-up.
Thanks for your help.
Hey
I have found I have the same problems myself (its why I dont use xBackup). However if your backup file was made with Sprite Backup then simply install the latest version on your device, then load it and open the backup file from the program (even if its self extracting). It will use the new restore functionality that fixes the problem. (After restoring the raw messages it 'patches' them.)
If your backup was made in a different program then your probably not going to be able to get the messages back easily or at all. The best option here is to simply manually copy them by hand if you can access them at all. I tried the ClearMail program once when I had a poor backup and it cleared everything but the bad texts!! Needed a hard reset. You can try using programs such as "SMS Cool!" and "Jeyo Mobile Companion" but I got connection error messages when I had a corrupted inbox.

I had the same problem restoring emails and SMS from sprite backup files myself until I upgraded to version 3.13. Seems like the problem has been resolved.
If you have your original backup files, the latest version should patch the mail database correctly and allow you to view the restored SMS.
Hope that helps.
FYI, WM2003SE is using this app Tmail.exe for the SMS. It is located in /Windows directory.
i had this when i used x back up and no matter what i did when i tried to text i would set it to use sms account but it would still try to use activesync account, so i restored an even older back up then restored the one that went funny and it worked fine. its done that twice and thats fixed it both times
Cleanmail fixed my problems.... but no I have no MMS database/inbox
anyone know how to rebuild it ?
thnx
mms after backup
I had this prob a while back when upgrading rom. I was unable to open mms App. Problem was when active sync runs it copied old files. if you delete the "mms ua" folder that is saved in my docs, uacontents. this gets rid of any messages you had b4 but you will be able to get into app.
hope this helps
solved it by restoring MMS folders from a backup..
Never loose your SMS again
You can save all your SMS/MMS onto your Storage Card. http://xpocketpc.fw.hu
really looking forward to an import feature
and please make that program work from Storage card !
it will also be more logical to run from storage card when you add "inport" feature ... than it can be used as backup/restore.

I'm using Sprite Backup 3.1.4 and still I experience this kind of problem (error in messages specially in Activesync emails) every time I restore my backup.
Is there a way to fix this or is there a newer version of Sprite Backup?
I don’t know which backup tool is better. SunnySoft or Sprite backup?
Use spriteback to backup anything except messaging and use sunnysoft or dopod SMS backup to backup messaging.

Um.. well you have a point.. you can blame sprite if they released a new version and they wanted us to pay again for upgrade then i think its against the law.. ill try to contact sprite.. btw, does the problem on messaging is writen on their website telling that "warning: this current version of sprite is still sh!t in restoring messaging"??
no they do not warn people
and : Sprite backup does NEVER restore MMS contents correctly on blue-angels. (they know and confirmed it)
AND:
if you try to restore only SMS or any other single DB, then the new, blang MMS DB will be corrupted and useless.
They know that too.

And no trial although they have this "Instead of offering a trial version, we provide a 30 day Money-back Guarantee. This is because we do not expect users to evaluate the application by removing all their data and then restoring it."

Backup Email Settings?

Hello, I was wondering how do you go about backuping email settings? I like flashing roms, but im getting tired of entering 5 emails over and over again. each rom is slightly different with yahoo. sometimes it recognizes it sometimes it doesnt, and my school email all which i have to add manual imap and smtp, so u can see it becomes dreadful. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Before you go telling me to search i have and i only found topics on touch diamon 2 which is WM and not android. KTHXBYE
Use K9 mail in the market instead and then backup the app+data in either Titanium Backup or MyBackup Pro (and then restore when you flash a new ROM)?

I'm assuming you mean the android email app and not the gmail app. The info is probably stored in data/data/com.android.email/databases. There are quite a few databases in there and I don't know which one stores your email settings. You could pull them all to your pc and push them back after flashing the new rom. I haven't tested this and don't use the android email app so I can't really test it but have done this with other apps. Can't guaruntee it will work though. Just do something like:
adb pull data/data/com.android.email/databases/* /desktop(or wherever you want them on your pc)
then to put them back just use:
adb push (name of database) data/data/com.android.email/databases/
Just something to try if your familiar with adb at all.

You can try using Titanium Backup to do this - it will certainly back up email data - but my belief is that the issue may be that you will not be able to go across Android versions with the data. Trying to restore the 2.3 email data to a 2.2 ROM (never mind to HTC Mail if you move to a Sense based ROM) could just cause FCs.
K9 mail is really (at least IMHO) much, much better than the stock email app anyway.

You can use a root-aware file manager to do the same things if you want to avoid adb. (Root Explorer ($) or ES File Manager (free) )
Put them in a folder on your SD card someplace.
Using either method you should probably make sure first that the E-mail app is not running.
As doogald pointed out, in general backing up and restoring files from the data area of an app is not guaranteed to work, especially between version changes of the app software; but for the same version of the app it will probably work. You'll have to try it to know.
okay thx everyone. Ive been a community manager before, and this community is excellent.
Ive "solved" my issue. Thanks to everyone who let me know where the db is located at. I tried titanium backup and it allows me to backup the data portion i just flashed gsb 1.6 from 1.5 and then restored the backup then rebooted, works flawless. However something to keep in mind, i might keep a backup of the email app currently using so if i ever need to restore the backup i may do so, ifnot i may give k9 a try anywho thx everyone.
for those new and wanting to know as well, let me break it down.
1. titanium backup (Free version is fine)
- this app backs up the data portion of the application (settings)
2. backup your app with titanium backup.
3. wipe,flash,restore
or many suggest to adapt to a new email app to prevent any inconsistencies in data storage techniques (try k9 email app)
again thx to everyone
titanium backup never worked for me (just email) i have donate/pro version and i've sent a query to support and never got an answer.. i am using mail droid now.. but lemme try the extraction method. should try again with the newest one perhaps it might work... even backing up sms wouldnt work... rest all other program works with it.. Same here as well, have tried multiple times & no luck. Any other solution available as of now?
My Back up pro has never restored email accounts either.
Fix?
would really like to get to the bottom of this as well.. quite annoying to restore accounts every time i flash a rom with wipe.
Bump...has a way to backup and restore all email settings of default email client been solved?
Restore default email with accounts with Titanium Backup Root
1. The key seems to be to restore "Accounts" from TiB (hope you have a backup) first.
2. Next, force stop the Email app from Settings and clear data.
3. Restore Email Data only
4. Reboot
5. Run Email
( I used Titanium Backup Root - free version)
I discovered that the app starts up with the restored Data from the App and immediately crashes with "account not found"
Email App stores the passwords in Accounts, so once Accounts are restored everything seems to work, (whew!)
Since I tried a number of things before Email started working, I'm not sure of the exact sequence of restoring the App and Data (I tried restoring the App and Data, which failed, then force stopped the app and restored the app only and then data only - someone please document the exact sequence, I don't want to risk losing my Email accounts as I don't remember the passwords )
I can confirm that your steps 1-5 work well (on CM 11), and that step 1 is essential for step 3.

[Q] Viber messages backup anyone?

Can any of the Viber users or soft dev guru help on this little problem.
I love Viber and I love my SGS2, now after few months of owning and learning, I want to start playing around specifically changing my Rom and what not.
Now my problem is i have 13,000+ exchange messages with my GF on viber and I really wanna keep it, as i understand that when I change my Rom I have to do a data wipe and all. I know there's a backup/restore function but is there a guarantee that i can restore Viber with all the messages still there?
Can someone provide a walk around? I have tried google for solution and used the search here but there was nothing except the android team saying its something that they "might" incorporate in the future - that's backing up of the messages.
I hope other users are on the same ship with me here. thanks in advance...
It is posible via Titanium backup, but you need get root on your SGS2 first.
On a rooted phone copy the /data/data/com.viber.voip/databases/viber_messages file to sd-card or whatever.
After new install, put the file back, make sure it has the right permissions and do a compleate restart of Viber.
Done and done.
(Its very lazy of Viber to not include a backup-functionality of messages, as this is SQLite databases that could very easily be dumped out to disc and imported)

I have the same problem with backup and restore old Viber messages. I managed to backup (or rather email messages history) from my old HTC Desire but could not restore them on my new Samsung S3). What's the use of backup without restore function?
Oh! I can't find /data/data/com.viber.voip/databases/viber_messages on SD card too. Any suggestions?
Thanks,
Copying the database doesn't work for me. Here's what happens:
When I make a fresh installation of viber and replace the empty (fresh) /data/data/com.viber.voip/databases/viber_messages database file with my backup (old) one, viber crashes every time I launch it. I was careful to set permissions to rw- rw- --- as the fresh file has them.
What can I do - maybe export the records in the backup db file and reimport them into the fresh one?
If the previous question has no easy answer, at least can someone tell me what's happening so I can try to figure out an alternative approach?

I have the exact same problem. Once upon a time, I had an older version of the software saved on TiBu which I was able to restore and the messages stayed to the right person. Unfortunately, I don't have that version or backup anymore. I just downloaded another older version of the software from a thread here on XDA and I'm about to install it and see if it fixes the messages list problem...
Update: That version wouldn't open on my phone, it just FCed (could be because I'm running the vzw jellybean leak). Off to search for another version...

The file on the phone is an SQL Lite database.
Probably you could copy it to your PC, import the data, copy it back and have the database repaired.
I just restored the whole "com.viber.voip/databases" folder, and it works perfectly. all messages etc are there.
Hello I also have a problem with backuping my Viber messages.
Today I've done a software update. I'm using Samsung I9105P (SGS II+ with NFC). The update was from 4.1.2 to 4.2.2. I did a normal copy of data\data\com.voip.viber\ and full app+data backup with Titanium Backup.
So this is what happens:
Everytime I restore data with Titanium the app starts normally and then I'm always asked to type in my phone number and the activation code. Before doing that all messages do exist. I know that because I am able to close these dialog windows with "back button" and look on the messages but I'm unable to normally use viber (I mean send and recieve msgs). After applying the activation code the message tab appears without any message. It happens like this everytime.
I also tried to just paste the "databases" folder or just the "viber_messages" file but both of these actions end with appcrash and then i need to reinstall it or just back up data with titanium (and then it's all the same as I wrote above - I mean activation code etc.).
I have several thousands of messages and I don't really want to lose them. Especially looking on the fact, that I've restored up my viber messages for a few times when I've been using Samsung Galaxy S (i9000) and also transferred them on this phone.
Any ideas for a solution? I'd be grateful. :fingers-crossed:
Same problem here! I can see the messages at first (after restoring APK + data from titanium or mybackuppro), but Viber wipes them when it asks me to reactivate. This whole thing is a mess. Anyone know a possible solution? I also have lots of messages that are important and I would like to restore.
I have exactly the same problem with the one the two last users are dealing with.
As soon as i got updated to Android 4.3 and restored Viber and its data with Titanium Backup, the first time i run Viber i can see my messages for 1 or 2 secs and then activation screen appears. After finishing app's activation i can't see my messages anymore..

If you have a titanium backup, unzip the backup file and extract the viber_messages file and replace the one in /data/data/com.viber.voip/databases/viber_messages by root browser. It worked for me.

Have the exact problem with TB and activation process, messages are gone after activation, but i have the solution that worked for me:
In TB folder find com.viber.voip-(some numbers).tar archive
open \data\data\com.viber.voip\.\databases
find both "viber_messages" AND "viber_messages_journal" files
copy them to \data\data\com.viber.voip\databases on the phone
change permission for viber_messages to RW RW --
change permission for viber_messages_journal to RWX RW --
restart phone and that's it, you will have all your messages

You can do this with ES file explorer, just go to settings/display settings/ and tick "show hidden files", great program and it's free :good:
Got my messages back, but the photos/doodles are not displayed in the chat-thread. empty images. when you click on them to view them bigger, they are displayed.
any idea how to get the thumbs in chat back?
Try to reboot phone, or delete cache in settings/applications/viber. For me everything is ok.

[Q] Whatsapp reader or restore old messages

Hi all, i guess it's is already mentioned.. but i couldnt find it after searching for almost a day.
I have old whatsapp messages that i want restored, could anyone explain me the way how to do it?
greetings,
Gertjan
I'm not quite sure what your problem is. Did you change the device or reinstall whatsapp and want to restore a backup?
In general it should work following these steps:
http://www.teamandroid.com/2011/08/21/how-to-backup-chat-messages-in-whatsapp/
Follow the steps below to backup your Whats chat conversations:
- Open WhatsApp.
- Press the Menu key, and go to ‘Settings’.
- Scroll down and go to ‘More’;.
- Now tap once on “Chat History Backup” and backup will start.
That’s it! Next time when you re-install WhatsApp after a full reset, you will be asked to restore your previous backup (which is stored on your SD card).

If not, we need some more information...
However I guess it's not that useful too have all those older messages in whatsapp, because they are just filling the internal space and you can't easily access them (you would have to press "load older messages" again and again and whatsapp will become slower and slower ...).
A good possibility is to transfer the full whatsapp backup to your PC and use a tool called "Whatsapp Extractor" to display all the conversations.

is there a way to restore iphone whatsapp backup/history to android htc one X?
Re: Whatsapp reader or restore old messages
WhatsApp automatically makes backups every 24 hours and stores them on the microSD memory card of your Android phone. To restore the deleted messages of WhatsApp, you will need to uninstall and reinstall WhatsApp. During the installation process, you will be prompted to restore the lost message history of WhatsApp. Choose restore your missing chats.
Today I woke up in the morning and saw that all my whatsapp messages were deleted, I did not perform any back or restore from any backup utility such as Titanium backup. I am on Android 4.3 on Samsung note 2.
I tried to uninstall whatsapp and re-install again, it asked for restoring messages from backup folder but only restored messages till date 30-Dec-2013, although message backup was present with latest backup of yesterday’s date i.e. 23-Feb-2014.
Please let me know how can I restore all the messages and resolve this issue.

Have you tried whatsapp migrator tool?
:good:
Try this way
Have you tried to restore by WhatsApp. If you have done a backup, messages, chats can be easily restored. If not, try Android Data Recovery on RecoveryAndroid. I used it to get my lost Whatsapp messages back days ago.:highfive:

Sms folder?

Can someone tell me where the "physical" folder of the sms'es are located? I need to do a recovery on a galaxy s2...The bloke deleted his sms'es, now i'm trying to recover the lost info...
tia
Based on Root Explorer search
Doing a search for sms found this file on my phone - /data/user/0/com.android.providers.telephony/databases/mmssms.db
I can't say for sure if this is it, but that database sure has all of my sms in it
As I'm sure you will also recommend that your friend does future backups of his sms, I thoroughly recommend SMS Backup & Restore. It has worked well for me for a long time, and automatic backups are very easily scheduled

Believe it or not, i have tried locating/searching for mmssms.db before my post...and found nothing
Think what i'll do, is download sms backup and restore....backup my sms'es...and see what the backup file is called...hopefully it will give me an idea where to search (for future ref)...thx for the tip
One thing i DID notice though, is that the "internal" storage, is actually called SDCARD? what a way of naming an internal storage. If i think about INTERNAL storage, its def NOT called an SDCARD...rather call it intstorage, or something like that....it will def confuse people...as we all accept the word SDCARD as a device you plug INTO th cell...and not a build in device...

If you want to backup your sms when switching from a stock samsung rom to another install Titanium Backup from the store (it's free). Find something called [SMS/MMS/APN] and do a backup.
After you install another samsung rom (with wipe), you can just open Titanium and restore Data from the save you made. Make sure you go inside the sms app first and untick 'Delete old messages'. Do a reboot and youre done.
If you are interested in adding new sms messages to your samsung rom (when you used cm9 for example, use Sms Backup and Restore, it's also free on the store). Do a reboot. Save your sms/mms with titanium and youre done.
I havent found a way to transfer mms messages between samsung and cm9/aosp/aokp roms yet.

I have all those apps...Thing is, i need to attach the phone to my PC, and then do a recovery on the phone...thats why i need to know the "exact" location of the sms-storage directory...as i will have to access the phone via my PC via USB...

The files you're looking for are:
mmssms.db
telephony.db (this one contains contacts and call logs)
They are located in:
/data/data/com.android.providers.telephony/databases/
Internal storage (sdcard)

I guess that you are aware of this but ... just in case ...
The internal storage that you are calling "sdcard" is only partly correct. If fact sdcard is below the top level root. So, sdcard is actually /sdcard, and the data directory where I found the database is /data (not on sdcard, but off the root directory). To get to this you need a rooted phone, and a file explorer like Root Explorer or ES File Explorer.
Sorry if you already knew this, but the sdcard thing was quite confusing to a newby like me before I had done quite a bit on the rooted phone.

Hi RobinhoodSnr, did you ever manage to retrieve the deleted sms's? Because I have the same problem. Deleted by accident this morning!

At the end of the day...I just left it and couldn't find it, although i could recover my contacts at location "/data/data/com.android.providers.telephony/databases/" ( as a previous member has mentioned )
Apparently the smses are located as "data/data/com.android.providers.telephony/databases/mmssms.db"
...hope this helps
