I've seen it make a difference tho...I have had android phones where I have had the worst battery life ever until I wiped battery stats.
Same people who tell me ATK will kill your battery yet I always get the best battery life using one and usually better battery life than those claiming they are bad...

You all are aware that a lot of variables affect battery life, no? Correlation does not necessarily equate to causation.
I wiped stats when I replaced the battery on my OG Droid, no idea if it helped the old battery was short cycling.
I have been struggling with trying to figure out if the battery life I am seeing is what my Atrix is really capable of. I am occasionally a heavy user, but on weekends I am a very light user. I'll start at 8am with 100% and be almost dead at 6-8pm. I have searched around and seen other Atrix users with 24 hours of battery life and even if I tried my hardest to not use my phone I wouldn't get those kind of numbers. I feel fairly confident in saying i scoured search results and tried everything i could find to extend battery life.
Am I doing something wrong?
Is there something I can do to help?
I know it's been asked before, but I am hoping to get some current answers for this question: what kind of battery life numbers are you getting on your Atrix? Which rom are you using?
Atrix 4G running CM7 RC3. If the answer is "keep it charged as often as possible", it is what it is. It would be great to find an answer to why battery life is so much shorter than others though! Many thanks in advance.
Just noticed CM7.2 stable was released, upgrading to that now to see if battery life improves. Might try a full wipe to see if battery life is better without email, syncs, etc. etc. if the upgrade doesn't help.
i would recommend getting cpu spy and also download and install as a zip 'blue sleep fix' (blue sleep zip can be found in the CM7 thread). This has greatly improved my battery life.

Which kernel? Flash Faux 1.0GHz and undervolt across the board by -50mv. Instant battery life!
Also, use ROM Manager or equivalent to stop all non essential apps from starting on boot.

Test your settings for a few days. If the phone stays stable THEN you set at boot.

Err, that is not good battery life at all bro. I can tell you barely used the phone. Atrix should be able to provide up to 2 days standby time...
I wouldn't undervolt either, I read on these forums that the battery gained from undervolting barely makes a difference

You should turn wifi off when not in use, that will save battery life.
Badass battery will let you know how you spend your battery by % and let you know which app takes the most battery. (Lets you get a really readable easily understandable battery read out.)
I can help you get even better battery if you use this app and give me some numbers (it has a share via gmail/etc)

turning off wifi is not going to help him that much. I leave my wifi on all the time no problems, make 2 days light usage no problem.
More likely he's got some apps running around in the background. I suggest he pick through what he's got installed and start turning off the things that like to sync all the time in the background.
I think step number 1 would be to install a non-stock ROM and startover fresh.
Blur-based ROMs (Nottachtrix was really good) then the faux123 kernel then slowly start installing the apps he likes to use and monitor battery life. It might take a month but he's definitely got an offender here or there causing these problems.
also install Juice Defender. My mom's Galaxy S2 was having tons of problems with battery life even though she wasn't using it at all, 60% battery life at 3pm without using it at all, installed that and immediately helped her a lot, like 80% by 3pm WITH use.
Also, clear your dalvik cache. After installing lots of stuff and not using it, it just fills up with sometimes poorly written code. Clearing it always makes phone faster in my experience.

I think this is what I will do today! I'll do a nandroid backup, and try Nottachtrix with no extra stuff installed or setup. I will report back! I appreciate all the help to get my phone performing where it should be.
Just wanted to report in. I tried a clean ROM as stated in my previous post with no luck. I just couldn't get past the battery life I was getting with cyanogenmod WITH all of the apps and syncs enabled. Should I try another ROM maybe?
Maybe your battery is just a bit old? After ~2 years, you can expect that battery life drops dramatically. if you are a heavy user this might happen earlier. Maybe check with the battery of a friend of yours whether it's a software or a hardware issue
Nvmd
You could be right, the battery might be dying.
I was on vacation the past few days so I got the opportunity to not use my phone most of the day (job requires me to use the phone a lot). The battery lasted about 12 hours and looked like it had about 4 hours left. So maybe I am expecting too much, but I'm not trolling...no.
If you aren't going to be helpful, go somewhere else. You could have said "Your phone screen was on for probably longer periods than the average user and that's why you can't hit longer hours". Based on your previous comments, I shouldn't expect much from you though.
Many thanks to all who are helping me. You're all awesome.

I also have 11-12 hours with 1 charge. And it is not enough for me. I use only Whatsapp ( a lot usage ), a little bit browsing, 20-30 minutes phone calls. These are all. And 11-12 hours is sooo bad for them i guess.
I have an "suspend linux process" drainage issue. Maybe because of it, I'm getting this result.
How can I extend my battery life. PLEASE Help!
Hi to all
I have a rooted unlocked S3 currently on a stock UK ICS ROM (baseband 4.0.4, kernel 3.0.15-928452-user, [email protected] #1, build number IMM76D.I9300xxBLG8).
I get pretty good battery life with this ROM (usually 24 hours with mixed usage of calls/apps/surfing etc) except when the GPS is enabled which seems to deplete the battery pretty quickly.
My questions are:-
Would I see any benefit in terms of battery life bu upgrading to the latest UK stock JB ROM (I think it's I9300XXEMB1 but perhaps someone can clarify)? I ask as, looking through various threads, there seem to be very mixed views and experience.
Is there anything I can do to prolong battery life when I enable GPS?
Many thanks to all who reply :good:
1. I think JB is actually a little better than ICS, but that's me.
2. As a general battery saver, try Greenify from the Play store.

Thankyou.
So, in your experience, JB serves up battery life that is "a little better" than ICS?
Is there any difference in battery life between the various stock JB ROMS at all?
Btw, thanks for making me aware of Greenify. Will give it a whirl but not sure it can help with battery drain caused by GPS usage..

Well, I don't really remember if it was a little better or a lot better, I tend not to look back on the past, but so far I've seen nothing but positives with JB. I cannot guarantee that it will be the same for you, though. The difference in terms of battery life between the various JB ROMs is negligible.
Well, if you've got Facebook or some other apps constantly wanting access to your GPS, it can cause a battery drain because the GPS is constantly looking for your position. Known culprits are Facebook and Maps, and once Facebook is greenified, you'll see an improvement in battery life, I'm sure of it.

I use GPS mainly for car navigation and also when using a geocaching app. Not sure if an app like Greenify will work or have an impact with those 2 uses but certainly willing to give it a try.
Can anyone point me to the latest JB ROM that I should upgrade to? Anything I need to do to preserve root and unlocked status of the phone?
Cheers

Am I the only one? I just updated 3 days ago with RUU to the latest build. Before the update a full charge would last me about a day and a half with moderate use. Now with the new update I am lucky to last half a day without it going into Power Saving Mode, then about 2 hours later it will be in Extreme Power Saving Mode. Anyone else getting sh!tty battery life since the update?...

At the risk of sounding like a noob.... Whats ART?
Battery life is incredibly complex and elusive. Asking if other experience the same is all but useless. Reason being, such comparisons are just anecdotal and will often not apply to you. There are simply too many variables, such as how you use your phone, what apps, and often most important is reception in your local area. It could be that the new radio deployed with 1.58 simply does not play well in your area. The intent is to always be "improving" the radio software, but its the minority of cases where it actually gets worse, which can greatly affect battery life.
Also, I've seen a lot of cases where AT&T bloatware runs out of control and kills the battery. You might start by looking into this. There are various apps that allow you to accurately see what apps are using battery (in addition to the Usage in Settings). Lots of folks here seem to like Watchdog Task Manager.

Right I understand that, but what I'm really asking are those who updated to 1.58.502.1 from the older build, did you notice a decrease in battery life... Not trying to compare my battery life to someone elses, I get how that is an impossible answer.

How is asking if anyone is noticing decreased battery life after 1.58 any different from comparing battery life? Its the same thing.
I can guarantee that there are some people that have experienced worse battery life; and some have seen the same or better battery after 1.58 (as this has and will occur for any new OTA/RUU).
Not trying to be argumentative, but my point is whether folks have seen decreased battery life or not is somewhat irrelevant, and isn't going to solve your problem. Better to look into what processes are actually causing the drain, and go from there.
try booting into stock recovery and wiping cache partition...has helped some folks in past
I actually did what dudeluv said and am using ART now. Waaaaay better battery life, actually better than it was previously. Havnt ran into any bugs in it yet either. But we will see as time goes on.

Oh yeah, full charge yesterday, using it just as much as I normally would and when I plugged it before I went to be still had 86% battery life. Compared to being on 15% by 4 in the afternoon.
We have ways of further extending our battery life now that we have root. I downloaded Trickster MOD from the play store to mess with CPU settings. I under clock at just 2 GHz and set the I/O to noop with governor to Conservative to see how it is.
Anyone else has a better recommendation or preferred thing to do to extend our battery life further than before?

Wakelocks were a major drain for me with the combination of Amplify and Greenify, I have managed to get my idle drain all the way down to 0.5%/hour. I'm interested to see what kind of effect changing CPU settings have, I haven't got around to playing with them yet.
I haven't messed with any battery saving apps and my phone is still awesome battery wise
I tried Amplify and it certainly is a good combination together with Greenify. I also tried Root booster as well to see how well it makes the difference.
This is the best phone I've had battery wise
Stamina mode active
36hrs since full
5.5hrs SoT
1.5hrs talk time
8% left
That's essentially two days usage for me. It's my first phone where I could forget to charge it overnight and still comfortably use it both days. I average less than 3hrs SoT everyday. I'd put that in the low-moderate usage I suppose

Well, there are few things that usually result in a poor battery life. First is if any app does not let your device to deep sleep. These wakelocks means that your phone would suffer from bad battery life. To check which apps are causing the wakelocks, you can download wake-lock detector for that which needs root.
You can also try thuderzap controls from google play. I prefer it over tricksterMod.
You tone down your GPU as well. At times some kernels give you a very good battery life as well. So look around if there is any development in that regard.
Conservative might save a bit of battery but it would result in very bad performance usually. If you have intelliactive (interactive is older) , you should choose that. It is much newer and gives good battery and performance.
You can also under-clock your battery consumption but make sure you do not underclock it too much or it would not turn on. Usually underclocking about 100-200 is stable but it can vary between devices.

I would not recommend underclocking. Even when I put it to 2.3ghz, it still force crashes. As for governor changes, I think that's plausible. Didn't know there's a newer and better interactive.
Edit: I tried Thunderzap, and too bad the Z3v stock rom doesn't offer intelliactive.

the actuall number is probably in the hundreds of thousands. HTC, which is the #4 android phone manufacturer, has roughly (VERY roughly) 3-4 million vzw users and I'd say the sony is way below that. Compare that to Samsung which is in the 28-30 million handset range and the z3v is really small potatoes. Its pretty tough to calculate as sony rarely shows on the charts for handsets sold in the US.

And it will continue to be small if they don't invest in the marketing here. They need to continue advertising its great capabilities, even put it alongside the PS4. I know they've already done that, but do the whole advertising with being waterproof and 2 day battery life. Do some counter marketing against what Samsung became now, compromising external memory for just some premium look when Sony could easily do with it.
HTC made some awesome commercials before with their M7, but now they just repeat the same thing with their Uh Oh protection, which doesn't advertise much about the M9.

They shouldn't sell devices if they don't intend to support them. They have meetings for cost benefit risk analysis, that guy should be getting screwed not us. Very low class move on vzw's part.
