Rooting went wrong - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

After the Rooting procedure failed (for some reason), my phone just went popped up with an error "Firmware upgrade encountered an issue. Please select recovery mode in Kies and try again"
EDITS:
Progress 1: Got into the download mode but I cant seem to find the firmware appropriate for it:
SGH-1747M
Baseband: 1747MVLLH1
Progress 2: After scouring the internet I have found SGH-1747M I747MVLALH1
The problem is its 1747MVLALH1
Rather than 1747MVLLH1
Not quite sure at the moment if this is the right firmware for my phone
Advice would be appreciated

Take out the battery. Put it back and press&hold volume down+power+home button. It should boot into download mode.

The mode your describing is download mode but you'll have to vol up to go into the mode. As for your cwm question, try a battery pull then insert while holding up and down and power, when you feel the first vibration let go of power and continue to hold the Vol buttons until your recovery opens,if it will. I would be pleased to know download mode works and forget about cwm of its not working. Odin back to stock then try again. Also when you think your phone or computer "freezes" give it more time to finish processes. Don't be hasty.

Booted Without A Rom.....Help!

I accidently booted my phone without loading a ROM onto it and now it won't even start. It doesn't even vibrate. HELP!!
Try holding volume up + volume down + power for a few seconds. If the phone vibrates, let go of the power button. You should have booted into recovery.
nope nothing

How do I put it back to stock if the phone doesn't turn on?
Can you put it into any boot/flash mode when connecting it to your computer?
If so, for a quick fix I would flash the device using Odin or Flashtool and load a Rom that way.

You gotta get into download mode somehow either with computer and Odin or through different button combination on device try Heimdall as well might be able to use that but if you can't get into bootloader or recovery then it's a wrap

How exactly do I flash/boot via Odin?
There is no change when I plug in my phone into my computer
Yes, do as UncleLester has said. Try hold volume down + power for 10+ seconds. If you're able to go into download mode, you can restore to stock. If the phone doesn't turn on at all, I'm not sure what else you can do...
yeah, I held down the volume up + down + power for almost a minute. Nothing :/
I'm with jpark623 with that if none of the above work I'm afraid your a bit stuck.
What device is it by the way? And how did you get into this mess?

Download mode is accessible by volume down + power. Recovery mode is volume down + volume up + power. Don't press volume up for download mode.
My phone is not even recognized in the ID:COM Section
Were you able to access download mode? If so, then you need to install drivers. If not, you NEED to be in download mode.

There is a thread with a link to a Flashtool download or do what I done and Google Odin and download that.
Odin and Flashtool are programs that make flashing a little easier, the device needs to be put in a fastboot/flash/recovery mode (depending on device it's usually a combo of volume up + volume down or sometimes including the home button) when it's in it, Odin or Flashtool will detect it thats when you can select your chosen Rom.
I use Odin more than Flashtool just because I came across it first and it's never let me down however I haven't used it in a while, when I downloaded it though it did have a little 'how to' guide so everything you need to know will be im there.

I was trying out different custom roms that I had downloaded. I had just finished one and decided to change it. After booting it into recovery mode, I had wiped the cache and reset it back to factory settings. I tried to load a roam named "JZO54K.N7000XXLS7". It errored and stopped trying to install. Afterwards I ended up wiping it again and resetting the cache to make sure there were no remnants. Following this, I rebooted the phone and now i'm in this position

[Q] Samsung Galaxy S2 GT-I9100 flashed wrong kernel???

I have a Samsung Galaxy S2 GT-I9100 that I recently rooted and when I rooted it it flashed a custom Kernel as well. Upon rebooting the phone, now my home button and back button soft key is not responding. I think I may have flashed a kernel from one of the Galaxy S2s that has the 4 soft keys along the bottom rather than the 2 soft keys and the home button, Whenever I try to flash anything through Odin now it says that a connection failure happens. If I put the phone into Download mode it is not recognized through Odin anymore either. Also, when I plug the phone into the USB of my computer and try to do anything with the phone through the USB it shuts it off and just shows the battery charging symbol. If I try to flash anything through recovery it says that Signature verification failed. I'm a bit stuck and I don't know what else to try.

If it sees you phone, don't forget to close all kies applications (if you don't have kies, download it!)

If you can acces recovery mode (Volume UP+Home+Power) you can save yourself:
-If you can't access the SD card by USB, try to remove your external SD card and connect it to PC through a card reader, if you don't have one, buy it because it's far cheaper than an new SGS2 (or 3)
-Download Phil'z kernel that suits your current ROM and copy it to your SD card
-Put SD card back into phone and flash this kernel (See post #3 of the above thread), depending on what kernel you have flashed, read the appropriate instructions (usually: Install Zip from SD Card > Choose Zip from SD card > select and apply)
-You are done
BTW, can you provide a link to the kernel you flashed ?
Hope this helps
I have tried that. Everything I try to flash through recovery it says "signature failure" or something along those lines.

Signature check error means that you are trying to flash a custom kernel (I may be wrong) on non rooted phone
Philz kernel could bypass this
Have you tried cwm flashable philz kernel ??

Download mode is available, but when I plug it into the USB port Odin won't recognize it. But all of the drivers are installed. I've tried to flash philz through Odin but it won't recognize my device as being plugged in unless the phone is actually booted into Android OS. Then when I try to flash it just shuts the phone off and pops up the battery charging image.

It says GT-I900.
But everything worked fine, then I flashed that file through ODIN and ever since the home button and the back button soft key wont recognize. So I'm pretty sure whatever I flashed was for the Galaxy S2 model with the four soft keys rather than just the two with a home button.
So flash another kernel for I9100.
Get it at xda tho.

Hi
Have u tried flashing another kernel through mobile-odin ?
I'm still new to this stuff but I think it should work for you.
If u want to try it look for the thread with same name dl it ..free version, you will also need another file in same thread called
MobileODIN_FlashKernel_I9100-v2.0 (in same thread further down)
you can dl them on pc, put on card install them try.
or try rom-customiser u should be able to flash a diff kernel or Rom without pc-odin or recovery mode.
Good luck
Peace
I tried keeping it connected and restarting it. I also tried stopping all Kies processes and that didn't work so I uninstalled it but kept the driver. That didn't work. So I tried reinstalling the drivers.

So you can get to DL mode right?
And you're sure It's a I9100 Model.
- You've re-installed kies already, so we good there. If you've unistalled it, please re-install again & close all 4 kies applications running on background.
- Get a couple of USB cables (along with the original I9100's cable) and start trying them one by one on each USB port.
- Still don't work? Try it out on another PC, same drill.
- No luck? Try the same steps in "Windoze".
- If all above fail, try it all again.
You gotta make that PC see your device, it already did, so it can do it again.

That would goto download mode. Try volume up+power+home to see if you can access recovery. We need more info. What were you doing, are you rooted/unlocked? Explain the situation or we can't help you

It was running a rooted injected stock rom So it had stock recovery and I guess would be a locked bootloader. Then we followed a guide for returning to 100% uprooted stock from Android Central, downloaded the link to return to stock and the Odin failed with the green bar on the phone only about 10% done. We clicked the Odin reset and disconnected the phone and then we get the message "firmware encountered an issue" also something about Kies and try again. Did battery pull and vol dwn +pwr and still same message. Didn't try the the vol+pwr+home yet. Maybe that will get me out of this loop?

Download Mode and bootloader

Hi guys! I've been having problems with my Mega. My phone works really fine. I just got it the other day. But whenever I try to go to download mode or recovery I only get a blank screen but I know that it goes to download or recovery because my phone could detect it. I've been reading some forums that I have to reflash the bootloader of my phone so I could fix that error. Does anyone here confirm this and could anyone provide me a flashabble copy of the bootloader? Thanks!
Here's what I found on the other forums:
makeyourself said:
Your problem sounds similar to this one. I assume when you say 'blank screen' that the screen is powered on?
Power off the phone, hold down VolUp + VolDown + Power for 4 to 5 seconds. Then release ALL AT THE SAME TIME. Now press Volume Up. Now hopefully you will be in download mode even if you can't see that you are. If it doesn't work try it again a couple of times. The reason that you have to press Volume Up is that a warning screen is actually displayed before the phone lets you into download mode.
The phone will give you no other indication that its in download mode and won't 'recognise Odin' when not in download mode. Make sure you have Samsung USB drivers (comes with Samsung Kies) installed on your PC.
Oh yeah and by the way the thread I've linked to suggests you have to reflash the bootloader to fix the 'blank screen' problem.

Glad you sorted the problem.
This is a question. I need to get the bootloader..
Another question, if I flash the stock rom will it also fix the bootloader? And is it safe to flash with this kind of problem like with the blank screen (but the computer could detect the phone is in the download mode)

If you can get to bootloader and ODIN recognises the device then it is worth a try, can you get to recovery to backup first?
Can't use recovery to backup. I was still using the original recovery not cwm. But i finally flashed a rom on my phone but it still has the blank screen. Atleast I'm not scred anymore that my download manager is not working
