Hi gang, have found the TV Out page within Service Menu > Service Info > TV-Out Test and haven't got any "This device does not support the function." which has encouraged me to go to the next step and buy a male micro-USB to male-HDMI cable. Think it'll work?
The Sony Forum team guesses no, phone specifications either don't mention it or say no so I'm going in with slim chances. What I'd like to know is what APK's are required for other phone models that do support MHL and any hints and tips, I'm running stock rooted ICS with unlocked bootloader.
Will update once cable arrives, delivery expected within the fortnight.
I'll be w8ing for your experience to b shared...

I've already tried with my U, it didn't do anything, no output (or errors).
Did you get the "This device does not support the function." error message within Service Tests on your U, also were you using an MHL-ready TV else powering the adapter via a charger? I'm going to play with the Xperia range at the phone shop tomorrow and see what APK's they're running for those that do support MHL and don't have a dedicated HMDI plug output.
I didn't get "This device does not support the function.". Hence why I clearly wrote I got no errors. I used it with an external charger. As far as I know no Xperia phones support MHL, not even the high end ones.
I tried an MHL connector too with my Xperia U and got same result as theronkinator.
I think I saw a video from Xperia Arc or Arc S running MHL correctly on you tube, so I disagree with him when he says
As far as I know no Xperia phones support MHL, not even the high end ones.

We're after the APK's and config for one of these Sony Xperia's that support MHL over micro-USB:
Sony Xperia GX phone
Sony Xperia T phone
Sony Xperia TX phone
Sony Xperia V phone
I note that the Xperia Sola is not listed on the compatible list for MHL, but let's hope that's due to omission. Will do some reading to understand the hardware requirements for MHL and whether our phone fits within.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mobile_High-definition_Link#Mobile_devices
Got my MHL cable, no luck via Service Tests on stock kernel, will dig up the APK from one of the above devices, if not then we can mark this as busted.
I got my MHL cable today and it doesnt work for sola, i would like to know if you get something! I would like to help you if you need

As far as I know this is only based on software, that means that our USB-OTG on Sola is hardwarely enought to support it!

While you wait you could look in the roms for Xperia S (that does have an external mini HDMI although has a different SoC).
I still have some hopes for this project, as the SoC (the NovaThor U8500) does have the hardware to support a HDMI port. How stuff is arranged can still mean is't doomed, but still...

Is there a way to use xperia x10 to display stuff on TV or a projector?
good question
I haven't tried this yet, but my TV has USB connectors. Might be a way to get the TV to recognize the SD card as an external hard drive...that's the only way I can think of doing it. Other then hooking it up to a PC, and then streaming the content to your tv via another device (media device, modded gaming console, pc, etc....) First gen xboxes work great for this
i connected my x10 to the usb from xbox..and it works.it can play videos or see pictures or listen to music.it doesn't play the new 720p videos from xperia
You really need to qualify this question... yes, there are a billion way's to use the Xperia to display stuff on the telly...
I assume what you're really asking is: "is there 'video out' capability on the x10"
The answer is no.

Well yeah, there's supposed to be DLNA on the 2.1 update, but I haven't looked... of course you would need a DLNA compliant receiver of sorts attached to or inside your set...
Like I say, there are billions of ways to get your x10 on the telly (personally I just sit it on top when I'm charging it), but it all depends on how you're trying to do it.

That's only for Satio series.
I tried a 3.5mm to composite RCA cable but no dice.
Ultimately the best option would be HDMI to microUSB like a few other phones have.
I wonder how hard it would be for someone to add support for that... I guess it depends on whether it is a hardware or software limitation... I'm tempted to start a thread about it!

It's software limitation, there cannot really be a hardware limitation in the phone itself, all we need is a compatible microusb connecting lead, but there is no feature in the x10 software that allows video-out.
Maybe a third-party app?

you are talking like everything is possible with x10(like quadcore).not that i dont like to have HDMI,but its very very unlikly
(dont get me wrong brother)
Anyone know any dev to show him this?....
Every dev most likely already "thought" about this many times, but this is a dream, it could be possible to get somehow a video output using usb or even the phone connector, yes it would be possible, but that would be a very poor output, because they would have to remap somehow a software encoder inside the phone to redirect data using USB or phone connector and connected in the usb or phone would have to be an adapter that would again translate the information in some vga, A/V, RGB, or at max S-Video, nothing like HDMI could ever happen as there is no such hardware for this built inside x10.
Don't dream on this guys, this is not like something that you can build on drivers.
Here goes an example of things that may be developed in future for x10:
Mass storage like pen drive(connecting a pen drive in the phone directly)
Mouse, keyboard and other input stuf.
Further undervolt and overclocks.
Multitouch, real multitouch(no dual touch as it is now with axis issue)
This may be developed sooner, and only maybe...
HDMI is too far from possible, not impossible though, but yet they would have to find a hardware in the phone to use for that which i don't really know if there is such a thing in x10, but i doubt.
@ all dev...
Is it possible to use USB OTG...?? like http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1224676
Or
Live Dock support for x10??
any hope..
This would be amazing but highly unlikely. I just don't think the X10 has the necessary hardware to push HD video out of the USB controller. The only thing I would add is there is a HDMI section in the Service Menu. I don't know if that would help us but it's a place to start.
@xpaa thanks for the interesting link.
My wife's Samsung Infuse 4G came with the hdmi adapter and my first thought was, "How the heck would you get HDMI speed out of a USB anyway?"
i also try so many ways to share my videos and photos on TV via Hdmi out .. even i found some suitable cables for X10 which was selling for that aims. try to search vivaz audio video cable , it is working like output from audio jack , in vivaz it shows videos but in x10 only audio no video , but it is possible via Wi fi share photos and videos on TV
About Live Dock to regret it doesnt support X10 ( only neo , arc , arc s , pro ) as i know

This cable works only on Nokia 5800.
There are no Android phones that support TV-out via 3.5mm jack. Some phones have HDMI port for this, but most don't.
Now, microUSB-HDMI adapter is known to work on some Androids, but LWW has not been tested. So we also do not know, if there is any app for it or not.
2nd way would be DLNA, but that only supports media files.

You don't connect the charger to the adapter.
I am not sure, if Xperia's support TV-out from microUSB. If not, then likely will not work.
For DLNA, you need the original file from stock ROM.

In Xperia Mini st15a, DLNA can be used through an app what initiate an server what give access for media content like videos and photos, and if you have an eletronic like a notebook or tv with dlna certified, then they have the client to connect to the server and execute these contents. Although, windows 7 comes with dlna client, windows media center, through wifi (dlna is a protocol what runs over wifi).
I asked in my country to Sony support about MHL, they say what the only device is the Xperia Arc S what have MHL ... but i can't confirm that, and the new Xperia U, P etc etc maybe have. However, for us owners of xperia 2011 devices, theres no mhl function, and i searched a lot... so i found xBounds, google it.
About cables through jack, the same, don't work... Sony have an oficial cable to x1 i guess, but not for live's or mini's.
Search also about mirrorOp app on Google Play Store.
PS3 have dlna also and Sony have an app on Play called VScreens.

Yes, in service menu there is a button for hdmi test. All Android with service menu have a button for hdmi test. All Android with this button kinda have hdmi software support. But, in order to use HDMI properly, the device need a hardware what support HDMI, for example, MHL need an USB socket and a circuit, HDMI need a HDMI socket and a circuit.
In this case, is all about hardware not only software. Although, there are some ways to do screen mirroring, some hardwares and softwares. I bet in xBounds.
No one tried to plug an MHL adapter in mini's or live's, because no one reported if work or not, all we have is a uncertainty. No one tried to plug another kind of cable and reported if work or not. *No one since the latest search I made.
I haven't tried to use an MHL adapter yet because I don't found it in my country so easily and don't found a MHL adapter "more appropriate".
I just need search for a friend or visit some seller what I can meet to test it. I don't found yet.

Doubt not. You're obviously too busy to look it up . Suffice to say that entering "android tv out 3.5mm" or "galaxy s tv" on a well known phone spec checker (sometimes known as 'giyf') gives prominent links to the correct accessory and video demos.

The Sidekick 4g does as well. 4pin 3.5mm TRRS (Left,Right,Ground,Video) cables work on it. So does the Galaxy S II (i9100), and according to Samsung's website, with "Samsung Exhibit™ 4G Android Smartphone Samsung Captivate™ Android Smartphone Samsung Vibrant™ Android Smartphone Galaxy S™ 4G Android Smartphone Samsung Omnia® II Touchscreen Smartphone"
Composite video on 3.5mm jack, and most of those phones have MHL over usb or hdmi as well. Suck on that non-believer.
Samsumg have nice phones.
Sadly theres no MHL, or jack, or HDMI, or magic for xperia mini/pro, et cetera.
Is really unpleasant what the demostration video for LiveDock cause the impression of is possible do tv out for any phone Xperia, but this was discussed before, the true is what the phone in demostration has your own HDMI out. Even the docks with HDMI out, is for phones that already have the HDMI out builded in.
We have just a long wait for xBounds becomes a true for us, because is the only resource what seems work as we need and want.
Of course there's another solutions, but the issue is the delay, but this is not problem, for example, if you want just show content in non-real time.

Yeah, I tried it the other day with a new cable I have (it works well with my Windows Tablet) but nothing I did worked, so Googled it and it seems it isn't supported on the M4.
You can otg support for the sony xperia m4 i guess by tweaking it.I don't know how to get it working
But i know that if we could enable this kernel feature. Then otg will work if we use an otg y cable or powered hub.
Xperia L got otg using a similar method.
Developers please test this out.
We don't have to blame sony we will get it ourself.

Sony removed otg fearing that the device will short circuit because of being waterproof.
I believe since sony m4 is fully plastic there is a problem with being short circuit unlike Z series.
Waterproof nature of M4 is not as good as Z series although they say ip68.I have seen alot of cases of water damage.
:good:
Sony xperia L had no otg support. but soc supported it.
Only thing was to enable it using the usb otg helper app and use a powered usb hub or otg y cable.
I can't find an otg y cable or powered otg hub. If anyone can find check it out.
Sometimes a custom kernel with otg support enabled might be required. This is developers work.
Otg worked on galaxy A5 2015 edition after using a custom kernel.
better than Z1 for underwater use
yeah i tried the y cable & it didnt work.
whats good about it though is that i took it swimming more times than i could count & still works perfectly. better than my old Z1.

Neither of them even pass through current, which is really really bad, i'm livid as I sometimes play games in work on my monitor when it's really quiet.
So so so bad on Oneplus' part here, this is the first big problem i've had, means you can't stream low latency to your TV using a cable? Wtf would you remove that feature?
Woeful behaviour.
PS: If anyone thinks that wireless streaming is on par with a direct line to your phone for the likes of gaming or even watching movies, you're wrong.

Ok so just added this line to the buildpro in /system
com.qc.hdmi_out=true
This actually allows the power to pass through but does nothing for output, both adapters now allow juice to pass through, i'll keep digging, there must be a way to allow this.

OK so after a little digging i've found that the VESA DisplayPort Alternate Mode may be an option should it be supported? Uses display link
Ok we could use the chromecast which for video is just about ok, but for perfect lip sync and gaming? Forget about it, it's a sub par peripheral which just can't cut it.
I just so happen to have a display link adapter in work so i'll be testing this on Monday. Personally I can't see it but will try.

For streaming it'll be fine..but for any kind of gaming you'll need to have TV out via a cable..60hz 1080p, completely abysmal that it's been left out.

What sort of gaming like that are you doing from your phone? Emulators?

Predominantly emulators yes, bare in mind what this phone is capable of.
Zelda the Windwaker - Gamecube: 100% speed 30fps as it was on the gamecube, a lot of other gamecube games work as expected too.
Megal Gear on the PSP, again 100% speed, 20fps as it was on the PSP, the vast majority of games work as expected on the one plus.
Bare in mind that this is the first phone (amongst other snap dragon 835 devices) which has been able to accomplish this and for a sense of irony it's the first phone i've owned in many years and i've had a lot which has been incapable of a wired TV out function?
I also run some PC games whilst in work, quake 3, Doom 3, Return to castle wolfenstein, all of which can be used with a keyboard and mouse which connects up perfectly on my HTC 10 via an Anker USB-C hub (which was £40, high grade and now useless!)
All Oneplus has done is followed Googles example by not allowing a TV out connection via a cable, it simply shows how out of touch these companies are with their users, yes sure there aren't a lot of gamers, but if you consider that One plus was spawned by a minority of developers who modded their phones anyway, this for me isn't progressive at all, it's a step back and honestly inexcusable in my eyes.
I'll get by, it's not the end of the world, I just don't understand the removal of a feature like this, it's on board, it has the capability, cost would be nothing? So there is no reason for it and little no to excuse.
PS: I'm also a PC gamer and have been for a long time, I play competitively and it's a similar situation, I have a 225mb connection which is completely stable 24/7 via a LAN cable, sure i could use wireless but I would lose latency and have more packet loss if i did and when you consider that I've paid for high end kit to shave off milliseconds losing all that by using wifi would make no sense, it would mean the difference between losing and winning.
Using a chrome cast for casual gaming like candy crush or puzzlers could possibly be doable, however anything that requires any kind of quick reaction is going to fail as the input lag is so severe, also when streaming to a second device you may incur lip sync issues, something that does not happen using a wired connection.
Obviously worlds apart from PC gaming but the principle is the same.
Do you think it would work with a displaylink to hdmi adapter?

With the screen out of the question I went and bought an Ipega telescopic pad. Which essentially turns the OnePlus into a psp, runs everything beautifully, GameCube, psp, psx, neogeo, SNES, the lot. All perfect..really don't need a screen now tbh. Check them out, only 20 quid.

i backed the superbook on kickstarter and would be really sad if it will not work with the op5
i am nearly shure that displaylink will work.
it has nothing todo with MHL/HDMI. it just need OTG and our op5 support OTG (can connect my usb-stick without problem)
