Radio Issues - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I live in a low signal area but I could pick up 1 bar signal in certain locations.
I had to change my USB board due to broken USB but I got a version 2.2 as to a rev 2.3 .
The board is obviously the current issue but when I was out the other day near my network providers high signal zone I got a signal. It seems my phone is looking for the strongest signal and locking on even although I can use them. For example:
I am T-Mobile UK which also uses the Orange network for signal. When I am home the phone reads only two networks which get signal in my area. Vodaphone and O2-UK.
Would a different radio driver work perhaps?
Thanks in advance.

3G problems with my HTC Hero

Hi!
I received my HTC Hero on thursday. I have some trouble getting a stable 3G / HSPA connection with my local providers over here in Germany (tested with E-Plus and O2). It falls back to EDGE or even GPRS quite often although my old Nokia E51 has a strong stable signal (all 6 of 6 bars for signal quality).
I also had trouble connecting to an open unsecured WLAN.
Is anyone else experiencing such problems (hopefully not)? If so, I just got a defective unit...
Any hints appreciated. Did find anything via Google yet. Probably because it has just been released.
Best regards, cos
Yes I've been having problems too. I have noticed a weaker reception I most areas - signal strength drops from 3 out of 4 to 1 out of 4 for no apparent reason - in weak signal areas I lose signal completely - wifi cuts in and out at home.
I'd also appreciate hints - HTC asked me to do a system reset which I'm reluctant to do becuase I don't believe it will solve anything.
Using SimFree HTC Hero on the Orange Network(UK). (I've tried 2 & 3G - I've tried O2 simcard)
**UPDATE**
Did a system reset - no difference
Sent phone to seller who compared it with other units- same signal strength
Took it to an Orange Shop where they had a signal booster which should have given me full signal - I got 3 bars.
Hopeful for a software update

Block specific cell networks?

Ok, here's a challenge.
I am a uk t-mobile subscriber. In the uk t-mobile and orange merged their cell networks into one big network (tmob bought out orange) with the original t-mobile cells still showing up as "t-mobile" and the now merged orange cells showing up as "t-mobile orange". Tmobile offered their subs the option to also connect via orange cells and orange the same to their subs.
At the time i thought this was a good idea. More cells, more signal in more areas, better experience.
I was very wrong.
Basically the orange cells are absolute crud compared to any of the tmobile cells. You notice a massive drop in bandwidth between a tmobile cell and an orange cell and i wish i had never opted to use both.
So, i am looking for a method to allow me to block the switching to the orange cells so i can stay on my native (faster) tmobile cells all the time and never ever have the phone connect to an orange cell ever.
Any ideas?
I know each network has a numerical value that denotes it so there must be some way to tell the baseband never to switch to this particular network right?
Any advice anyone can give would be greatly appreciated. Cheers.

I was looking for the same solution and came accross your post, judging by the lack of replies theres still nothing to sort this out. Annoying when Orange forces to take over and is usually a weaker signal!
A Post in Themes section re call blocking .
Dont know if that dev would have more knowledge .

I thought you could manually select the network? TMo and Orange come up separately as an option there?

I'm also looking for something so I can select a mast... the closest mast to my home is only 2.5mbit while a mast just a few miles away is HSPA+ and peaks at over 10mbit.. when my local mast was down I was able to connect to the HSPA+ one and have full bars... there must be a way of telling the phone to ignore a mast?
You can manually select the network in network settings however the phone freaks out then whenever there is no signal instead of quietly waiting for new signal.
This sort of solves the problem but creates the additional annoyance of notifications of no signal.
I couldnt find any way of blocking individual masts. Im not sure it can even be done on the user end.

Try updating to lg8 firmware with lh1 modem.
I'm on orange/t mobile and everything works much better now as far as the network switching goes
did you ever get a solution to this ? Orange is doing my head in and its just terrible..

Fluctuating signal

Hi there, I have an extremely fluctuating signal. What I want to know is, is it possible that the radio could be damaged due yo excessive downloading? I have only had the phone for about 2.5 months but must have downloaded about 40 GB through it. ( I don't use the broadband anymore)

Answer is NO

Is your signal (dbM) fluctuating or your download bandwith.
In first case you could be ping-pong'ed between antennas, some modems are more resilient aganst this than others. Try out a few.
If download alone is fluctuating your antenna may be on capacity limit or your provider is attemptin, to throttle you. Check if connection remains stable with a vpn connection (more speicifically a udp vpn since those are very hard to throttlt) and make sure your apn do not include a proxy unless absolutely necessary.

Thanks for your reply. How can I check the dBm. Because that I think would be best to check a faulty radio. initially I noticed it first when my 3g h and kept fluctuating between edge GPRS etc. I phoned my provider and they said they haven't been throttling. They told me to manual roam by selecting a different operator and coming back. This doesn't do anything.
Sorry I found the dBm. It's at 91 then the next second 109 with as ranging from 2 to 16. The signal bar at the top of the phone is between no bars and 1 bar

Network issue! Full bars all time....low signal

Hi,
Having some strange problem with my HTC ONE X+ (AT&T), with signal reception and cellular network bars.... Bars shows 100% network even if there is signal a drop/low signal....
Even with all the bars (100%) signal, some time it shows out of network if someone dial to the number.
Even the network signal bars are constant at full and no dropping / changing, even if there is full signal or low.. but with no signal is doesn't show any bars.....
Even the 2G GPRS data reception is very low....
what could be the reasons and solution..

Hi,,
As far as I found, the back of HTC Mobiles are soft (bendable) and the handsets are having connectors from the main board to the back body of the handset and those are not elastic in nature, due to which after bending the connectors do not retain their shapes which creates loose contact with the anteena at the back. Which is the main reason for network and wifi issuse.
You might have to open the set and straighten the connectors for proper connection and there after have to use hard body case to prevent stress on the back side of the handset.

Thanks for info:thumbup:..surprised even polycorbonate cover also doesn't prevent such issue:banghead: .now problem is how to open the case...I guess it requires special tools...Service center estimated whoopping rs 17000 for repair

Mobile network signal issue

So almost after 3 weeks of getting the TS I decided to put in my AT&T SIM. I was reluctant to use that tiny bastard screw driver but I did it anyways. I have noticed that the network signal strength of my watch is almost non-existant. It will get cellphone signal at only certain place. With the same sim card on my phone (Nexus 5), I get good cell reception.
How are others doing in this department? How's the cellphone signal? Is there anything I can do to improve the mobile network signal. Currently I am on stock with Loki's security patch.
I am not sure if this is a hardware issue or software issue. I remember someone opening the TS and checking the antenna. Any suggestions would be highly appreciated.
Some information on my TS -
North American 1/8
Stock ROM with Loki's patch.
Ok here is my observation:
I could not get signal inside my office, home and costco
I did get signal once I get out of my office - full signal bars with H+. I made a short trip from office to costco and home and back to office. It was able to get signals when I was driving but in some areas where I used to get 2-3 bars in my phone, TS did not pick at any signal at all. So mobile network signal is working but it is pretty weak compared to my phone.
May be it needs some tune up
i have the same problem, the signal is low and TS really has a hard time to find one,if its lost
can we do something about this ?
I opened mine just to have a look and found one of the connectors lose, took a bit of fiddling to get it back on but my network signal seems as good as my note3.
I don't know why, but after installing this app.https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.misonicon.signalbooster3g4g
The signal works perfectly, I didn't believe in this apps but now I don't know what to say
At least it works
Mobile frequency fluctuates on my end too, made sure APN settings are listed exactly like they say here on the forums, maybe I should change to another GSM 3G SIM card?
