[Q] What if Android runs out of letters to name new versions? - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Now, Android is named after pastries/cakes/deserts. We have already arrived at letter J.
Android
Beta
CupCake
Donut
Eclair
Froyo aka Frozen Yoghurt
Gingerbread
Honeycomb
Icecream Sandwich
Jellybean
But what happens when we get to Z?
We think, it should start from A again, but named after Bugs, maybe:
Ant
Bumblebee
Cricket
...
What do you think? Any suggestions?

Theres still 16 letters left for them (15 not including X), so theres at least a good 10 years left. Only God knows what the state of mobile technology will be at that time lol, Android may even become an OS of the distant past.

Android will be renamed skynet by then.

also, the world might end. hopefully in a way michael bay would approve of.

By then Apple will have patented naming phones after food products and will have sued Android manufacturers and Blackberry.

We will become androids and the only version will be human

Ginger Bread Update

I recently Visited a VZW Store In Connecticut, I got my Tbolt swapped out after reverting back to stock!!
I inquired about GB 2.3.4, and the tech and Location Manager Both confirmed that
they were told about the Upcoming GB Update, No specific dates were given But it's Slated for this week, so they say...
I just thought I would throw that out here to you peeps. Can any other peeps share on the 411 maybe they have? I am sure it's Coming its just a matter of When it Gets here.

Jelly Bean to Key Lime Pie?

This is quite idiotic to hear that the next android following Jelly bean is coming

Why do i have a feeling jellybean is gonna be for phone/tablet dock hybrid based os for devices like the asus padphone?
They are pushing for mobile OS superiority.
Look at how the free to play game league of legends forced other games to follow the F2P just to stay popular.
It's good... If the OS grows big enough other OS's will be forced to become free as well, just to stay in the game..

I read somewhere that releasing updates quickly is a marketing technique against IOS. Cause android is at 4.0.x and IOS at 5.x ! If a beginner compares the two operating systems, he would definitely choose the bigger one, using his common sense as choosing criteria.

No, we can't develop for it cuz IPhone is designed for ios and if android is developed for iPhone then I think Apple would sue the developer ( not sure though ). We can't develop properly for it, we need proper packages, omx codecs ,proper libs. Finding or writing omx codecs is difficult job cuz there is difficulty in finding proper omx libs for android phones! How can we find for iPhone???
Sent from my LG-P500 using xda app-developers app
I know its very difficult...but if we try...it will be possible...I have googled it any many say that its possible but a bit tough and risky...for we need jailbreaking iOS....which is easy...then need to put our brains and start the Developement.
Well, you'd need proper drivers; either you get them from Apple or you're building them yourself (which is a real pain).
You'd also need to somehow get the Android kernel in there, which is also a pain, since ... well, it just is...
It's tricky, but I've seen a pair of iPhone 4s with Android on, i just don't know where and when...
Though Android still RULZ
Well it will be.difficult....but i have seen people using android iphone...i know we cant make a perfect rom but still we can make a compatible rom

Don’t forget, judging by all lawsuits (Apple vs the world) no body can develop anything similar to their products or use their products, whilst they continue to freely, so called, “innovate” what android been doing for years (i.e. “pull down notification” blatant copy).

Back in like ios 2 or earlier they used to have android in cydia....And,even then thr marker didnt work...
But as everyones saying...due to the fact that apple keeps everything clised source, sues everyone, and puts in a ton of security...it would be extremely hard and take months if not years...by the time we got it going for one there would be a new one...we hav no source to work with
The people that actually deveolp stock roms get paid and work in large teams and also have degrees in this sort of thing...its there job -and it still takes them about a year to release
Now look at us xda people...some of us,may have degrees in development. But many of us,are self taught. On top of that we all have a life outside of xda...jobs, family friends...so we really dont have that much time to work on stuff. Last...we are not paid...we do it cause we enjoy it...but i dont think anyone would enjoy building android for iphone simply cause you would pretty much have to creaye your own drivers and libs
So sorry to burst your bubble...but i dont see this ever hapoening. The end product isnt worth the work, not to mention the lawsuits apple is famous for...

i dont think it would make much sense. iphone has a processor about 800 mhz right? it wont create a performance thats near to any androidphone, it would probably lose against my x10 with 1ghz and 384 mb ram.... Maybe one could build donut or froyo for it andbthat would also run like it should after two years in development or so, but who would use it (you wouldnt by an iphone if android was on it, because any androidphone would give better performance for lower price, so you buy it because it works better than android and, oh yes, the apple...) I think it would be much cooler to port ios to work on androidphones, soon, when apple "invented" all features of android, it will still have the better performance, thet even hardest androidfans have to see.

It's a lawsuit waiting to happen though...apple would shut it down the moment they heard of it...
iOS is closed source...that being said it requires permission to work with it. With out permission you are illegally working on it. It would not be allowed on xda due to lack of permission...
As for porting android to iPhone...as I said earlier I don't see that happening either...there's not enough demand and we have no drivers/proprietary files to work with

Android 5.0 beta is starting to gettin out. Who would like to have it on cooper too? For people that dont know is name: Android KeyLime Pie (Dont know acronim but think will be KP). Android 5.0 key lime pie is predicted to arrive by this October to a new nexus device ( they say Google's next nexus will be in cohesion with the Motorola ). Anyways, it's all prediction. You'll never know anything until it's actually released ! What if android gets cloud backup as icloud in Apple ? Backup all your game data, music, pictures, etc and restore things back on new firmware...! Anytime, anywhere ! But for time being, just dream of it running smooth on ace, be satisfied with 4.2 ! Sad to see pioneers like wayland stop development Can anyone else make it ?! Who knows....?!

Thats assuming it can work on our device, ACE is already under a big strain running ICS/JB, if the new android is as much a jump as ICS was from GB, we might not actually be able to see it on our phones ever.

But they still got ics running on ace, didn't they ?! You can never predict what's coming next on the ace forums As far as I'm concerned, our ace forum is one of the busiest ( may be the busiest ! ) and the most active forum ! Our developers are not really developers, they are rock stars !!! Anyways, are developments for nexus 4 and galaxy s2 better than that for ace ? I think these are the only 2 phones that may surpass the magnitude of development in ace.
Sent from my GT-Xperia S using xda premium
Our devs are the best and the most buziest of all times i think
Sent from my GT-S5830 using xda premium
I agree, those guys are rockstars, nexus 4 and S2 forums devs don't exactly get such challenging jobs because they already have a good enough hardware available, but given the hardware limitations in our phone, its really amazing what our developers have achieved so far.
But still, it was a pretty big jump on hardware requirement when they released ICS, if its the same with Key lime pie, its possible that its requirements would really be out of our reach. Its a 2 year old model after all, and with the rate the technology is evolving, our phone is pretty close to being called ancient.

If you want IOS, you're just going to have to pickup an iphone. The architecture is different and there is no dev team that I'm aware of that will put in the time and effort required to make this happen. I'm saying there's no point to want iOS 7 if you have android because it looks like a android developer got fired and hired by apple and just made android for apple. I HATE apple. I just wonder how iPhone users feel to own a phone that copies the **** out if android. Apple sues everyone for likeness and bs and then they flat out copy the UI android for the most part

I think there is an obscure way to put ios on an android only because I've seen my brother put ios on his droid 2 a few years ago as well as put ios on his laptop but that wasn't ios 7 and like everyone already said wtf would you want to put that crap on there. Even if I'm right and you do find a way to put ios on your phone there will prolly be a lot of bugs and missing services like a lot of other roms. Best bet is to just pick up an iphone
