If running a vulnerable version, would it be possible to gain root through this exploit?
Also if the app is a pre-installed system application.
The reason I'm asking is because the HTC ONE XL currently has no root method running the new firmware 2.20.
We are desperate over there

Bump, very curious about this.
Someone must have some insight

Is this a stupid question or doesn't anyone know?

that article says someone can gain access users on a device, and only gain the privileges of those users, so no root if it's even the same case for android

Ok, so this game (Mass effect infiltrators) comes preinstalled on stock HOX+ Roms for free. I decided to flash ViperXL+, and was wondering if it was still legal to post/find a Download link for this app on xda? I already purchased the phone, so shouldn't it make sense I could have it on any Rom I wanted? Or is it possible to pull it from a stock Rom? Any help is appreciated

No, it runs fine. I just want to know if it's legal to re download it since it doesn't come in the viper Rom

You can pull the .apk from a stock rom and install it on a custom one. But posting a link to the .apk would be illegal.

I believe what is factory installed is only a demo. For me, I was prompted to purchase the full version. I could be mistaken on this though. But if I am correct then with out a doubt posting the full version anywhere would be illegal.

It is a full version on my ATT onex+. To the OP, i'm no pro at this, but if you backed up your stock rom then you should have the apk backed up in there somewhere, i would think. I would do some searching in the backup file and see if you can extract the apk from there and re-install it.
Full verson where?! I have the att hox+ and it did not come with a full version. They wouldn't be that nice.

Yes, it is the full version. And I do have a stock backup, so maybe I can figure out how to grab it from there...

So I bought this phone a while ago and I want to install apps, that require root access like Titanium backpack and such. I tried a lot of rooting techniques on XDA, but none of them worked for me. So, all of you HOX+ users, what root did you use and does it work properly? Thank you in advance.
AW: [Q] What is the best root for HOX+.
use the toolkit for HOX+
I just installed a custom rom. Root comes with them.

OK, I found the tool and it seems good. But do I have to do something additional, like unlock the bootloader or something.

Yup. Unlock the bootloader.

Read the Original Post very carefully. All the information you need is there and withing the Toolkit. Trust me.

Hi,
I'm looking for a way to root (or shell root) an HTC One X+ running Android v 4.1.1 without wiping any of the data on the device.
I work in law enforcement in digital data recovery, and the phone in question is an exhibit, so wiping everything from the phone wouldn't be good times.
I used to find that using SuperOneClick to shell root an android phone worked perfectly most of the time, but I honestly can't recall the last time it worked for me.
I know there are a lot of good tutorials out there and a lot of free toolkits that people have put together to root Android phones but all of them appear to come with a big red warning saying "This will wipe all your data".
Is there any way to get this done without harming the data on the device?
Jonny
Simply put, no.

The easiest way the root your HTC Vivid running ICS and version 3.6 sense it to use hasoon200's excellent all in one toolkit for the HTC Vivid. The toolkit will walk you through each step of the rooting procedure and tell you exactly what you need to do to successfully root your device. Let me know if you still have questions.
Thank you I found the toolkit in question and your right it worked like a charm thank you
