Screen black after fw update - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello everyone. I just updated a mate's s2 to xwlpy and then to xwlpx via odin.
It wasn't rooted before and it isnt now, so no brick bug risks.
The problem is that the screen is all black after the reboot, with the exception of the status bar. If i drag down the status bar, i can see the notification bar without any problem.
What can I do?....
Thanks all,
TD

Either do a factory reset or do flash a new ROM.

I just tried lpd, it started to do the software updates when many processes like logsprovider started to fc....
How can I do a factory reset without rooting nor accessing the dialer?...

In android recovery (3e). It's the standard recovery.

WIFI keeps getting on and off

Hi,
I've updated the phone to the newer firmware from KIES, and the phone was connected to the WIFI network but signal connection keeps switching on and off, is there anyway to fix this issue so I can have a stable connection?
Have test with my iPhone and Ipad, both connectect to the same WIFI and only my samsung S3 having this problem.
PS: WIFI power saver mode is already <<off >>, keep Wifi on during Sleep mode is set to <<always>>, Network notification is <<un-tick>>
This is my current ROM (Rooted)
AP: I9300BUBLG3
CP: I9300BULG2
CSC: I9300VFGBLG3
settting > wireless & network > more > mobile network > automatic connections > sprint connection optimizer.. unchecked?
This is the international version is Samsung S3, I can't find such settings.
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda app-developers app
I had the same issue when I reverted to stock. I thought it was this and that but really, all I did was
Backed up everything
Well mine was rooted and stuff so I triangled away the flash counter, probally dont need that if your on stock anyways
I wiped everything from the phones settings, back and restore, reset
I then booted up in recovery, doesnt matter if you are cwm or stock recovery, wipe again plus cache
Now I loaded up Odin and flash the original stock rom for my phone, I waited till it was complete, I then updated it through settings till I got to the latest update and then started reinstalling my apps from google play store or whenever else I had apps. So far all is well and no wifi issues.
Other advise would be instead of all the above, wait for another update or flash a new modem. That also worked for me when I was running another countries stock rom, Bad wifi, so I flashed my countries modem and it was fine! so good luck!
go to dialler
*#0011# will take you into Service Mode
click on menu
click on wifi
you will see a button that says "on" click on it
it will say off this stops the wifif connect/dis-connect problem.
If you shut down your phone you have to reset it to off.

This was the latest stock rom from KIES update (also rooted). But thanks for the reply, I'll try to flash different ROM and see what will happen.

I've got the exact same problem. Do you have a BT Home Hub 3 by any chance?
I've just rooted mine so am going to try and flash a new modem and see if this fixes the issue

Sorry I don't have BT Home HUB 3, my connection is very simple, just connecting the S3 to a DrayTek Vigor2710Vn Router via Wifi. Please let me know the result after you flash with a new modem. If is working, please provide the link and file name where you got your file so I can flash it too.
Thanks!!!!
***By the way, what ROM version are you using at the moment? Please provide your AP, CP and CSC details if is different to my S3. ***
Repeat Modem has nothing to do with WiFi.

I had the exact same issue, but ONLY after rooting the device (which I did just a day or two after I got it). I tried every possible fix, flashed new roms 3 or 4 times, wiped data and everything else in recovery, but no luck.
However, my final solution was to simply follow a guide to unroot the device, which I did today - and it did indeed work, I guess this issue is mainly happening to rooted phones, for unknown reason. Until I know this is fixed with an update (maybe in 4.1 JB), I won't be rooting this device again.
Link to guide on how to unroot
Are there actually people who can't fix it like me?
Also done everything I possible could but never got wifi working again.
Returned it to Samsung. I unrooted it and flashed the firmware again with KIES.
The day after there was also an official update for the BENELUX I guess. Also updated this with KIES.
So is it still possible they see that the modem was changed?

Yeah as the guy above me said, you always have to reset the flash counter before unrooting (as this requires superuser access).
If you don't do this, it's easy to see the phone has been modified in either download mode or by checking status in settings.
After successfully unrooting you'll also have to re-enter CWM recovery and wipe data+cache.
After doing this you'll see the device being "normal" and it should show "stock" in download mode.

Forgot to mention it but I did this yes.
I also think KIES would not update when this is not a zero.

[Q] S3 Stuck on Slim Bean setup menu?

Hi,
I have a Galaxy S3 i9300 currently running CM10.1. I just tried to flash Slim Bean 2.2 on my S3 as that's the only download available. However after flashing the ROM and G-Apps in CWM, when I boot the phone gets stuck at where the setup menu should be. Like when it should ask for Wi-Fi password etc, it just shows a black screen but the notification bar is there and working. At first nothing would work, but after a cache wipe, it said Android is upgrading (54 apps) but was still a black screen. However I could access settings and change anything I wanted, but the home button wouldn't take me to home screen. I print screened to try get to home through the gallery but the button still doesn't work. I booted without G-Apps to see if that was the cause and same problem. I have wiped everything and reflashed several times, still doesn't work. I have to flash through my external SD because when I put the .zip on my internal they don't show up in CWM. I am back on CM10.1 from a backup however I would much rather Slim Bean as I can tell from my "demo" access to it, it seems far far smoother. How can I fix the issue so I can use it?
Thanks

Could be a long way off here, but are you sure the download wasn't corrupted, a statusbar and black screen sounds to me like the launcher wasn't opening, or wasn't flashed.
Also what version of CWM are you using? I would download rom manager and flash the latest version, then try flashing slim again.

First of all, the newest version of Slim Bean available for the S3 is 3.1, which you can download here:
http://www.slimroms.net/index.php/downloads/all/viewcategory/152-i9300
I would suggest doing a full wipe and installing this (much newer) version... I'm using it and it's awesome. Hope this helps.

Notification/status bar missing

OK guys I got a question and I hope that someone can help me out here. I've been google-ing, looking for a similar issue and asking this question in couple of threads and after not getting an usable answer I decided to make a thread about my issue. My S3 emmc is the unfamous SDS affected one and I've been experiencing some lag and freezing so here's what I did with my phone at first:Flashed 4.1.2 XXELLA firmware, Rooted with-CF-Autoroot, flashed PhilZ Recovery v.4.35, Stock kernel. To get a clean installation I flashed the 4 file rescue firmware including PIT file and everything was working perfectly fine...no more freezes or random reboots just EVERY 2-3 days my notification bar used to get totally stuck/gone. Doing no matter what-restarting systemUI...etc,etc I couldn't pull the status bar down anymore until reboot.Tried stopping touchwiz home, clearing cache and dalvik, fixing permissions but it happens again in 2 days of mild-moderate use(web, games, texting, voice calls) Flashed again the XXELLA 4.1.2 firm.from sammobile.com.Changed the kernel as suggested by someone here on xda and it was ok for a while when using Siyah kernel v1.8.9+ until the next day when it happened again. It comes out of the blue just after doing whatever...at first I thought that is somehow related with the Triangle Away app that I used to reset the flash counter but it happened again even after I deinstalled the app. 2 days ago I wiped cache and dalvik, factory reseted the phone and updated it with the new I9300XXEMB1 uk firmware. It was running flawless until today when I faced the same frustrating issue. Out of nowhere after unlocking the screen I tried to pull down the notification bar to turn on wi-fi when..whoa!-there is no notification bar!again. I contacted Samsung U.S since there I got the phone this summer but they told me they don't have any tech support fot the I9300. It is driving me insane...what else should I try..tried hard resetting the device couple of times, tried different roms, different kernels all that is within my range of knowledge and this is my only hope that someone out there will give me an answer or suggestion. Any help will do good, thanks in advance.
Anyone?
Anyone out there please?
I experienced a similar issue, but it haa an explanation, Iwanted a black status bar, not the std dark gray one, then flashed a themed statusbar, when I rebooted, the status bar was gone, Ihad to reflash the rom (crdroid v 11), to recover the statusbar, finally found a theme with black background and white not light gray indicators, (LLC_XXEMA1_2_Jkay_framework_14_9blk statbar), and this one runs perfect, I now our problem is differnt, but give it a try, flash a statusbar theme, maybe, it will work for you, Im not giving you links, because it depends of your rom an framework, luck
Thanks I'll give it a try if I cannot stick to stock as close as possible then I'll try another custom rom like CM 10.1 or a themed status bar...For now the only "solution" to get back the notification bar is to use ROM Toolbox and with the rebooter to restart SystemUI-then it comes back. Uninstalled Dolphin Browser since I noticed that is the only app that I use prior losing the status bar (I might be just guessing idk for sure)
Finally I found a solution for my issue with the phone - SOLD IT! It was driving me insane with the constant status bar loss, no matter what stock firmware after the 4.1.2 jb update or kernel it used to run. Here on the forum I got no answer addressing the exact issue and I think that was the only solution. Bought a Nexus 4 and I really like it. Faster, smoother, better build quality, and I think I can live without the expandable memory and removable battery. Probably that was the last Samsung device I`ll ever buy until they start to manufacture a real quality products and start acknowledging and fixing the issues that follow them. Thanks to everybody here on this site for the help....
I think
I think it's the Custom ROM's SystemUI.apk problem reflashing with the same ROM would not help, i suggest to reflash the device to it's stock ROM and flash it again to your Desired ROM.

Tried everything my friend...reflashed to stock million times, flashed recovery firmware with pit file. Reverted back to stock with kies, downgraded, upgraded, changed different stock ROMs - nothing helped, felt disappointed and started to hate the phone cause it was driving me nuts so I sold the device and got myself a Nexus 4. I never regret of doing so, much happier, more satisfied overall with this beautiful device. Faster, no bugs,no lag, more quality materials used...now what is left is to convince my girlfriend to follow my steps as she started to experience the very same issue on the newest XXEMB5 firmware on her SGS3.

[Q] Help a newbie with no wifi connection after ROM install

I have a two week old GT-i9300 running stock 4.3 firmware and have been trying to install custom ROMS. After successfully rooting and installing CWM recovery I've tried installing over 10 custom ROMS but end up with the same WiFi issue. The phone searches and detects the various WiFi networks fine and saves them but will not connect to them. The bar stays grey and doesn't change to green and no icon appears in the task bar. I've wiped the cache and delvik cache aswell as wiping data as advised but to no joy. Has any one had the same issue as using the stock firmware is annoying as it's taking upto 20 seconds to wake from sleep.

It can be a baseband problem, so for that, I suggest you to use a a mg4 baseband.
I take it that means downgrading to 4.1.2. Is this something that can be done via Odin and will it result in these 'no network' issues people are having or can I just flash the modem file ?
Your question has been posted multiple times please use search
Wifi is kernel not modem .

Unfortunately, settings has stopped; even after clear data.

I know there are many forums addressing this problem but mines is a bit different, I know the common solution is App Info > Clear Data but this doesn't help. Neither does a force stop, reset or a clearing of settings cache.
I resolved to needing to do a data wipe, however I received this message, "failed to stat /data/date/com.android.defcontainer/cache" and nothing wiped. I started the phone to the exact same home screen and apps, but I had lost wifi settings and such, and can't open settings to set up wifi yet again.
I contemplated reflashing CM through the installer but wasn't sure if the failed to stat problem would interfere and potentially brick.
Any help would be much appreciated, cheers.
Flash the latest stock firmware for your country with Odin, factory reset in recovery before first boot.

I read online that downgrading from 4.4 (CM) to Stock 4.3 would hard brick the device, is there any merit to this?
No, if you use the right firmware and do it properly there is no more risk than with a normal flash.
Problems with all roms SM-T210
Hi!
This problem is driving me crazy!
I have a similar problem!
I have Samsung Galaxy Tab SM-T210
For a long time I used RocketTab rom. I decided to try out new Android 4.4.2 Rom.
I started to get an error "Unfortunately settings has stopped" when I tried to open settings. I also got another application errors.
Now, it does not matter what rom I install, i get application has stopped error.
Even the RocketTab rom.
I flashed original stock rom via Odin, same problem.
I tried CWM and TWRP recovery.
I wiped dalvik cache, system, cache, Data, internal storage.
After flashing a new rom via odin or recovery, same problem.
I don't understand how it's possible that after deleting everything, I still get the same error.
Sometimes when I open settings, instead of getting an error, tablet restarts.
Tablet was 100% working before flashing Android 4.2.2
Any ideas?
Thanks guys
