[Q] CM 10 Wifi access issues - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello,
I am writing here to ask about an issues I am having with Cm-10-20121017-nightly, i seem to be unable to connect to a WPA-PSK connection on my router. I have found that any CM10 based roms do not work(super nexus, paranoid) but Criskelo-16 mod works fine (based on samsung's Jellybean), I have read that CM10 doesnt work on WPA connections and I dont know if there has been a fix, some people have said different kernels work fine with updated drivers?
If so which one? and is it simple to install a new kernel ?
Any help would be much appreciated and any other info I can provide I will try too !
Thanks !
Jonny

Thank you for you reply
Will i be able to complete this process with Mobile ODIN pro? I currently use a MAC and the SGS III doesnt connect to my version of mac 10.7.5 Lion.
So i will find a official ICS rom from sammobile and flash that(using odin pro) ? then an official jellybean rom (using odin pro) and then back to cm 10 with CMW?
Sorry if these are simple, just making sure

WIFI not working!!!

Hi guys,
I flashed my SGSII into the leaked 2.3.4 firmware and installed the CF-root based on the KF2. After that my WIFI does not work anymore. No matter what I tried the WIFI just refused to work. I tried to flash back to KF2 but to no avail. I am now at original firmware XXKF2. But strangely, my Kiesair can work. So I am guessing the problem is software based. Please help!!!
*edit* I reflashed 2.3.4 firmware and installed villainrom 2.0 exactly as pulser's forum page instructed. Still no luck. Please help!!
Please help!!
same here!
after 2.3.4 no more wifi (villain and litening). back to KE2 and from there with KIES to KF3.
still no wifi.

I lost wifi when i installed VillainRom 2.0 and the stock KG1 kernel, when chainfire released his CF-Root-SGS2_XX_OXA_KG1-v4.1-CWM4 i flashed that and wifi started working again. I'm a dumbo, i remember reading that VR only supports CW kernel, oh well, lesson learned

I see so you flashed the updated cf root after u installed villainrom? Or u redid everything again from reflashing stock KG1 then cfroot then villain rom?? I am more of a noob. What is CW kernel???

CW = ClockWork, have a look at this thread it should explain everything.
I'd imagine if you are using VillainRom 2.0, and you flash the CF-Root-SGS2_XX_OXA_KG1-v4.1-CWM4 kernel from the above thread (it's in post #4), your wifi should start working again like it did for me.
Did u use cwm to flash?? Or using odin to flash the .tar file??

I was too lazy to copy the file to the phone, so i put it in download mode and used Odin
Cool. Will update u when I tried. Thanks man. : )

its really weird that im back on full stock rom, unrooted and wifi still doesnt work.

Hi Deanwray, please forgive my lack of forum skills. : ) I can get the icon and iconnect to WIFI with all relevant parameters like subnet mask, DNS Server and IP address showing up on the status of the connection. I can transfer data through KIESAIR and I can tether through WIFI. But I can't surf the web nor use any application that needs a data connection. They will just try and try until they give up.
I just flashed 2.3.4 firmware and installed villainrom 2.0. I think that somewhere along the steps in installing the villainrom, I might have missed something. I will try to reflash the root kernel from chainfire and then try again.

Hey guys, try mrxd's suggestion. I am on my way home to test out on my wifi. Didn't have the chance to connect to any wifi device the whole day!!! I tried mrxd's suggestion and flashed the root cf-root kernel after installing villainrom 2.0 using odin. Will post my findings once i get home. : )

[Q] Flashing new Rom questions

Looking to install ICS instead of Cm7.
Been told I need to use Cwm 5 - I am using cwm 4 so does it particularly matter? If so how do I upgrade.
And as I am running Cm7, is there anything else I need to do to flash the ICSunday ROM? - Searched and it seems I should be fine, but thought it best to chech.

if you are talking about ICS by jusada then its fine to flash as cm9 is not daily usable yet...
about cwm5 you have to download its package from related thread and flash it through current cwm4 as normal zip you flash it will be upgraded..
Yes looking at the Rom by Jusada.
Where can I find the download link for CWM 5? I have searched but I cant seem to find it. Am I not able to just use CWM 4?

[Q] [HELP] Odin 4.38 and .ops file download?/SOLVED

Hi guys,
sorry for my noob questions, but...
After a thousand times of flashing custom ROM's i decided to try the newest 2.3.6 stock ROM S5830DDKQ8. And I realized that... I forgot all procedure to do this. I read EmoBoiix3's tutorial and remembered, but I've found few problem, and I prefer to ask before flash my phone:
- where I can download ODIN 4.38, since megaupload is dead? (I google it, but... i'm not sure if the returned results for ODIN 4.38 are safe enough...)
- where I can download .ops file, since samfirmware is gone, and I didn't saw it anywhere in the sammobile.com? And I can't remember do I need .ops file since DDKQ8 is one package ROM?
- currently I'm with Maclaws CM9 beta 5. I installed KIES just to make sure that my PC has got all needed Samsung drivers. And when trying to connect with KIES it always says that this is impossible. It's normal as long as I remember for custom ROM's and Cyanogenmod especialy, right?
- something that I should do before try to flash stock ROM after... 6 months of using custom ROM's?
Thanks in advance, and please excuse my noob questions...
I got an ODIN copy.. Ive uploaded it to my website
Its an old version i think but should work.. ( Odin3 v1.85 )

Thank you @Nielli! I downloaded it, but 1.85 doesn't have One Package option and I can't flash my DDKQ8 one package ROM? Or I could try to put the .tar file in the PDA's field?

Any v.annoying bugs on beta 5.. Js it good for daily use? Im so excited about it
---------
Using TapaTalk on my SGA.
Well... yes and no. I faced some really annoying bugs - still flickering, wifi gray icon, FB sync wasn't sincing my contact's pictures, when calling sometimes phone hangs-up by itself (happened once), wifi reconnects in a few seconds (fixable by patch given in thread), ICS Settings app force close (and this app even isn't included in beta 5 at all, and still existing in my installed apps although i did full-wipe several times) and many more - but as long as I see not all of the users suffered those bugs. I'm reading CM9's thread since post#1, and all I can say is that the bugs depends from your baseband... Exactly because of that I flashed DDKQ8, because I noted that users that coming from this ROM as base had less bugs in their phones and CM9 works better than with my old one baseband - KT7 (i don't even remember which stock ROM I was installed last...). And now I'll flash CM9 again to see if it's gonna work without problems for me too, or not
Thanks for your help, and if mod's decide to lock and trash this thread i'll be fine
Awhh.. Ill wait for stable build as i use my phone whole day .

[Q] Cannot Connect Wifi Although The Signal is Good

I've installed Jelly Bean custom ROM for Samsung Galaxy S3; then when I tried to connect to the wifi, my phone shows that the signal is very strong. After a minute of connecting, it shows a message "Network disabled, poor connection". The wifi setting was saved, but still can't connect to the internet. Then I flash it back to its original ICS ROM, and it easily connect to the wifi.
There is 2 different JB Custom ROM that I tried, and both of them are having the same issue. What should I do?
I've search this problem and found some answers, but those answers are not working for me.. Please help..
Wait for Samsung to release JB instead of using Beta test roms .

Which modem did you switch too? Worth a try.
Its because of WIFI encryption, remove the password and try.
It's a bug in the leaked builds, they're BETA so you can't blame anyone but yourself.
it seems some people also had success after changing from wpa2 key to wpa key on there router.
I've the same problem.
I used to use Resurrection Remix JB 3.0.6.1 and everything worked fine. Then I flashed another CriskeloRom v13 (both are JB), and WIFI worked fine as well.
The problem was: when I flashed back to RR Rom, I couldn't connect any of the WIFI access points (actually, I tried 2) though the signal is very strong. I tried different settings and I also reset the APs and it didn't work at all. I also tried different modems and it didn't work either. Then I tried to re-flash both ROMs and found something may help:
1. flash RR: pass (before this the ROM was an unknown 4.0.3 version came together with the new phone)
2. flash CrisKelo: pass
3. flash RR: fail
4. flash RR with different modems: fail
5. flash RR ICS: fail
6. flash RR: fail
7. flash CrisKelo: pass
8. flash RR: fail
Anyone can give me some hint? What I need is the RR JB ROM with WIFI connections!
Sorry I can't paste external links because of the privilege, and both ROMs can be found at galaxys3.roms-db.com.
Best regards,
Same problem here. Running CheckROM v5.5. Have tried 2 different kernels (Perseus and Siyah). Hopefully the XXDLIH release will fix it....

[Q] WiFi on Xperia Mini ICS

Well, actually I'm using a custom rom, based on GB, because I've been having the same problem with EVERY ROM based on ICS (Stock or Custom).
I honestly don't know why does it happen, my problem is... Every time I've tried an ICS-based Rom, my WiFi disconnects itself all the time. It goes out and comes back after a few seconds every time it wants to, and it doesn't matter at all how far or near I am of my router.
I never had that problem with Gingerbread. Is it a problem with DNS, IP or something like that? Can I just use an app to fix that?
At least I would like to know what happens, thanks everybody in advance!

Had your bootloader unlocked? What kernel are you using?

mihahn: My WiFi is already in b/g mode /:
gouthamthemostwanted: My bootloader doesn't allow unlocking, so I am using the stock Kernel -.-
If you are using the stock kernel are you sure you flash ics kernel prior flashing the ics Rom?
If you flash ics kernel.sin using flashtool and still experience problems on WiFi then go through the updater-script of the Rom and make sure permissions are set right and this symlink is present
symlink("/data/etc/wifi/wl1271-nvs.bin","/system/etc/firmware/ti-connectivity/wl1271-nvs.bin");
I use rage kernel and removing this symlink from updater-script made my WiFi not to work . I don't know whether will it work with stock ics kernel but it's worth a shot.
Sent from my smultron using xda app-developers app
Ok, I'll be honest with you. I don't know what the updater-script is, and I never tried to flash a kernel because my bootloader is still locked
I think the problem is on your router. Change the channel and mode and also disable the wireless security. See what happen......

To flash the stock Sony kernel you don't need a unlocked bootloader . If you don't flash ics kernel for ics Rom I'm sure it won't work properly. I won't even boot properly in the first place.
Below is the stock ics firmware for st15i

Flash the above mentioned ics firmware using flashtool before flashing any ics Rom.
