[Q] SD Card and Internal Memory Labels switched - HTC Rezound

I'm having a strange issue...file explorer apps and other ones that view your files like Solid Explorer show my SD card as Internal Storage. my SD Card files are viewed under Internal Storage..This is a bit confusing and is possibly leading to problems that i'm having. I would like to know how I can fix this so it displays accurately. Thanks

AOSP/AOKP roms switch the two, and I'm not sure if there is any fix for it. I suppose you're running either CM9 or AOKP?

yep. 1.6 AOKP Linaro . So if i ran a sense ROM (ugh) then it would display properly?....say...do you think that the switched labels is why Boot Manager is not working for me?

Wonder if these problems are linked....
Thanked you for your assistance

I'm probably not the best person to answer this question, but I'll try anyways (take this with a grain of salt). Sense will display the internal and external storage correctly. I believe that the way that AOSP has been done for the Rezound specifically creates the problem of having the two switched. This would mean that the AOSP ROMs are interpreting the storage differently, so it shouldn't affect boot manager because that is something that occurs outside of the ROM. Honestly, I'd say avoid boot manager. If you keep two nandroids (since you're s-off, switching between the two is as simple as hitting 'restore') one sense, and one AOKP it's much easier to switch back and forth without issues. It's good to maintain both if you need them in good working condition. I use an SMS backup program so my switches are seamless.

What's going on with the internal drive?

I have found on several occasions that the music on the "internal" drive is suddenly completely missing. Cannot explain it; obviously, can't "pull" the internal card, haven't flashed anything recently.
Anyone with a clue why this happens. I have had images periodically vanish from my EXTERNAL sdcard, too, but this seems to accompany pulling the card.
I've been switching batteries and I'm starting to wonder whether part of the internal RAM is not genuinely nonvolatile or something.
UPDATE: I believe I have figured this out, it's related to flashing a new recovery. See post #13 below.
Are you not seeing it in your music player library? Any chance you changed a setting for where it looks to see the music? I don't mean to insult you , I just ask because there was an issue before of dupes showing up in the music library and it was happening because of those settings.

I likewise would have asked that question first (Occam's razor and all that). No, I don't see it on mount to PC or in my file explorer (and I see everything else on the drive.) It's as if something went in there and wiped the directory.
Dumped into the innertubes from my Rezound
some PB98IMG.zip files will erase internal memory in install.
Are you just doing a battery pull or are you actually shutting the phone down before swapping batteries? I've had hard times with SD Cards(and flash memory in general) without shutting down the phone first. I know it's an extra few seconds but it may save your information.

Good point. I'm pretty sure I haven't pulled the battery ever when the device is on (except when completely crashed, which hasn't happened in a long time). I never used to pull the battery with the power on EXCEPT that once in a great while the phone boots normally when I was trying to get it to go to bootloader and I pull it as soon as I see the splash screen. I cannot tie any data loss to doing that (this stuff vanished after I flashed a new ROM with the 4-in-1 power menu enabling reboot to bootloader, obviating the need for a battery pull altogether; and I haven't had any crashes on the new ROM/kernel, and besides, all this stuff was there after the flashing).
Do you think in that moment internal memory would be affected in such a selective way?

What he said. Installing a new kernel will cause the internal sd card to get erased, so if you are installing a ROM that requires a new kernel, that would explain the vanishing trick you are seeing.

I haven't installed a kernel yet that touched the internal sd card. And I'm on ICS right now which requires a kernel install...
Yeah, the music was there *after* I flashed my ROM and my kernel. And I always remove the .zip file so that the bootloader doesn't actually try to re-run it. The one thing I have noticed since before I rooted is that occasionally after any battery removal, something comes off the internal (and sometimes the external) memory. The only things that typically disappear though is music and/or photos, i.e. media.
I just can't figure that part out.

That's almost scary. You don't use HTC Sync do you? I'd hate to think an underlying process from Sync was doing you in.

Nope. I'm pretty sure it's unrelated to connect to PC. I actually have a spare 32gb card and a spare 16gb card and every Monday I use MS Synctoy to copy my external memory and internal memory to hard drive, thence to the external backup cards (I know, it's belt and suspenders, but it also means I never lose anything ever).
The only commonality I can come up with is the battery. Saturday I tried out my 2750 mAmp battery and kept the device off charger all day, then Sunday I switched back to my stock battery. Monday the music was there, at some point yesterday it simply wasn't (and I hadn't touched the battery).
Have had these type of issues since I got the phone. Can't quite put my finger on the cause, but since I back everything up, and since otherwise I love the thing, I'm just trying to find a pattern.
I had the exact same problem, one day, none of my music was there anymore. I finally rebooted and it was all back.

I believe I have figured it out.....when I update my recovery (as I have done every time drelisdee improves RA Vigor) it happens. I just happened to read on another thread about the CWM recovery update for the Rezound that running the PB98IMG wipes the internal memory (as somebody above in this thread suggested).
It's possible flashing kernels this way does, but clearly flashing a new recovery will mess with the internal drive.
Good to know.
Thanks everyone for helping to solve this.
By any chance did you use the make more space option in the storage card settings? Using that option support erase cache, but on the stock rom it end up erasing my pictures and music.

BINGO! Yup, I just happened to do that, thinking it would only clear cache, and that was shortly before I discovered the missing music. I am running the stock ROM, only it's deodexed so I can put mods into it. That must be the explanation.

Phone constantly reboots + Lags intensely

Hello,
I've searched but nobody seems to have my particular problem. I moved a bunch of Apps via App2Sd from my Phone to my SD card, thinking it would help eliminate the "Insufficient storage device" error that kept popping up. It did the trick, but my phone became insanely slow as a response...and it periodically reboots every 1-3 minutes. I'm not quite sure what I did - or rather, how exactly moving Apps to my SD card could wrought such havoc on my phone. My phone is not rooted, and I have not made any effort to modify it beyond the normal means. Could anyone assist me? I'd appreciate it.

I have a very vague recollection of the stock recovery but I believe there is a way to wipe CACHE (not DATA) from it. Try that first.
Also, If you're not rooted then that app is not doing anything you can't already do on the stock rom. I would try moving the apps back and then get rid of that app. You can move individual apps through phone settings > applications. That app only moves apps that can already be moved by stock Android.
If all else fails you may be looking at a factory reset. That's the crummy thing about an unrooted phone, if something goes wrong you don't have many options.

I can't specifically remember, but I moved almost everything. It's likely that I moved my launcher, GoLauncher. As for widgets, I only have one widget, BusinessCalendar, and since that doesn't function from the SD card (as far as I know), I left it there.
In the end I removed my SD card and, predictably, the phone worked just fine. I wanted to avoid it, but I guess I'm just gonna mount and clear my SD card.

For some reason it seems not much people know that if all your apps are on your INTERNAL it will be extremely faster. The UI throughout the phone will significantly increase. Guarantee you that.
The phone has to locate read the app from the SD then boot it save data on SD= lag.
As above, and some apps do not play well on the external sd even though they can be put there. I'm pretty sure the launcher should be on the internal sd.
If you really are out of space on the internal, then only move one, or a small number of apps to external, and then only one at a time, to see the effects. Also, choose the ones you use the least.
I'd suggest you move everything back to the internal memory and see if the phone functions normally again. If so, then move apps to external as I mentioned above. If not, you may have to wipe data/factory reset and set everything up all over again.
What ROM are you running? I recommended flashing something light and tight to improve your overall experience. Try Ethereal, or Vagabond for that matter. Light GB ROMs, and super stable.

[Q] JB Rom help?

Hi all...I have been flashing for about a year now and I need help finding a JB Rom that works correctly. I have tried a few different ones, and most won't show my pictures or music even after I followed the guides to fix these issues. So I flashed Miui JB latest Rom and its real nice, but no BLN?? So, which JB Rom is stable for you with working GPS, mms, and shows no issue with music or picture files...AND has working BLN? If I could just find a kernel that would work with the MIUI JB rom to enable BLN I would be golden...alas, I can't find one and Devil won't work. Thanks guys!
I've been on AOKP 9-20 with Devil 1.5.2 with almost no issues. The only problem I was having was a few force-closes while using the camera, although after a few reboots it seems to have gone away. I plan to flash the new AOKP build 3 later on, which people are having great results with. I was on CM10 for a long time before this and everything was working perfectly, but I came back to AOKP mainly because Devil didn't work that great with CM10 and I missed blinking notifications and better performance options.
tl;dr AOKP or CM10 are both great

Hey thanks for responding! You haven't had issues with losing pictures or music files?? They are on the sdcard but no music player can see them...same as pictures, although QuickPic seems able to pull them up...I flashed the latest CM10 nightly, no music no pics...went back to stock and worked up to AOKP nightly, same issue! Got mad and flashed Miui JB and poof everything showed! Weird! I followed some of the guides I found through search for how to fix the issue but nothing worked...no problems with this for you though??
EDIT: I clean flashed AOKP build 3 and NO music or pictures!!! Going to flash the Devil and see if that makes any difference.
Yeah I've have no issues with pictures or music on any rom I've tried, however I'm no longer using the sd card that came with the phone. I had an issue mounting the sd card when I originally started flashing my phone (I had zero issues with the card before that time) and decided right away to buy a better sd card before flashing anything else. I ended up getting a 32GB class 10 which has been flawless. So basically the only thing I could think might be going on might be related to the sd card failing, especially if you're still using the junky one they give you with the phone initially.

I have the same sdcard I don't know, it's all over Google and XDA about this bug...I just feel like the only person on a fascinate that has it! Thanks for giving me some input tho!
If I were in your spot I'd probably try a different sd card if you have one available to try, or backup all contents of your sd card to your PC, format the sd card, and then transfer everything back.

LOL I tried that too. I honestly did everything I could think of or every tweak I found...that's why I was hoping someone could point me in the direction of a JB rom that did not have this issue. It's cool though, I started using Google Music...transferred my music onto my pc and uploaded to Google music site. Then every time I update AOKP, I just will get the app and it will download the music to my cell. Not a perfect solution but it's tolerable! As far as pix, as long as I use Quick Pic they show up just fine. Of course I have to use a third party camera app since the AOKP camera won't work since gallery isn't. Thanks for any help!
I remember there being an issue with rom manager creating a .nomedia 'hidden' file:::: here is from a post of what I did to fix that issue::
Yep I was having this issue too,,, yesterday I had tried clearing the gallery cache and data,,, today I 1st tried clearing the media storage cache and data,,, hoping maybe just possibly that would help ... but it didn't... Also Tried both of my SD Rescan widgets, but neither worked ... so I uninstalled the ROM manager update which took me from 5.0.1.5 and asked me if I wanted:: " to replace this app with the factory version " which I clicked ""OK"" and that put it back to version 5.0.1.1 ,,,
then I cleared :: media storage,,, gallery,,, and Apollo :: cache and data ,,, and rebooted .... wallaha!!! gallery shows properly!!... THANKS everyone ,,,
,,,may have been slightly overkill but I what the heck,, just in case gallery and Apollo had anything hanging around ...
Now you were saying that when you flashed MUIU everything worked? I wonder if you could pull the Camera.apk from that rom and install it on AOKP to see if it'll work
I'm having the exact same issue.

Same issue here, happened a couple of cm10 nightlies ago. Never had a problem before, there were no reports of it happening to others but only a few of my pictures loaded, no music was recognized, neither were my custom ringtones, or videos. ODINed back to stock and it carried back to that... no idea how to fix it... although I think it is an sd card issue, the phone just isn't recognizing there being media on the card or only partially. Namely because if I pull the ringtone from sd and place in the ringtone folder in /system they appear. Tried just about everything, specially after hearing about the Rom Manager issue with .nomedia's being placed were it shouldn't have.
Other things I've noticed is that, an app like Root Explorer can access my sd and recognize the files inside to which I can select and use, but even after opening the picture/song/video they still don't show up in their respective apps. Also note, I have reformatted my sd card and ODINed back to stock to start over with no luck in either. I've since installed Rom Manager with no luck either.

Hmm I wonder? But how would that have any effect on the music part of it? Honestly I can live without the stock camera and gallery, its the fact that all my music is missing is the worst part...
Does MUIU have it's own music player? I never used it, so I don't know. If it does, take the apk from the rom and put it on AOKP to see if your music shows up. I wonder if this is just a glitch that hasn't been addressed simply because not that many people have encountered it. Perhaps this is a big enough issue to be posted in the general Q&A forums? Maybe that way you'll get more views and possibly better answers from people on other devices that may have got this bug.
I believe JB puts something on the sd card so ics and below won't show all of the media. I went back to JB and everything shows up fine.

Yup, that's exactly how mine is...I can see the files on root explorer or if I usb to pc but no matter what app I use to play music it says no music found on sdcard. I've used rescan app, moved onto pc and then formatted sd, blah blah. Nothing works. Oh well, it isn't enough to make me leave AOKP...I just work around it and wait for a fix I tried cm10 nightly, cm10 8/19, and a few others...same issue. Also if I use an mp3 downloader it will complete the download but when I try to play the song, it's NOT found! Crazy. I'm glad I'm not the only one!
using steves sept 27 build of aokp with devil 1.6 is my favorite and daily driver right now. only issue thats a serious problem is if you turn it on while its off and plugged in charging, it has a SOD or completely dies when i lock the screen. simple fix, turn on, as soon as you see samsung logo plug it in. this also fixes having no soft keys if you get that every now and then. no issues with with the gallery, camera, music or anything. i always odin back to GB stock and then go forward with THS build 2 of ics, then JB, then google apps and boot, restart to recovery then flash the kernel. im seriously impressed with this build

It could be a coincidence but it wouldn't hurt to try swapping SD cards if you have another laying around. They're also dirt cheap on amazon now too
Did you try this? Found it doing some google searching
The Internet said:
This trick didn't work for me. So, I did what the system should have done with the .nomedia file present. I moved all of my photos to a hidden folder (with a . before the name) and removed the DCIM folder. Then, I looked for all instances of the .nomedia file (Root Explorer helped) and deleted them. Rebooted the phone. Started Gallery. Waited for 10 minutes. Voila! Gallery showed every little image file that was on /sdcard. To remove the files that I didn't want to see, I copied the .nomedia file from a random system folder and pasted it into all the folders that I didn't want indexed. Strangely though, moving even one of the original /sdcard/DCIM/Camera files from the hidden folder into the current Camera folder took Gallery down. Stranger that this also made the Internal Storage show a blank window when I connected the phone to my laptop. Almost positive that this has to do with JellyBean creating a /storage/sdcard0 folder that's linked to the older /sdcard folder. Looking it up and will post updates if I find any.
Update: The same trick works for Paranoid Android's JellyBean ROMs (even the latest 2.13) for the Galaxy Nexus. Something to do with the DCIM folder and how it is handled by Media Storage. A Linux-geek friend of mine confirms this has to do with the /sdcard0 symlinking. Although, why we need something like that is beyond my limited knowledge of the OS.

Yes a root explorer and look for all those hidden .nomedia files and delete those ,,, and copy over an alternate .nomedia that was not associated with the sd card,,, that was one of them tricks

[Q] Moving app data to external SD card under 2.2 Froyo ROOTED

Hi everyone.
So I have an Android car receiver (DV638A, otherwise known as AN6B01). It runs 2.2 Froyo. I've modded it to improve the Android experience, and it's pretty good I must say. I have root permissions, I froze most of the annoying stock apps, installed a custom launcher and some ICS style visuals, etc.
But there's just ONE thing I haven't been able to do that I really want to. I've been researching and experimenting with it for days!
I use Google Play Music (version 5.2 which is the latest supported version for Froyo) and it stores downloaded music to the internal SD card. On this device, the internal SD card is only 2 GB which is not huge. However, it also has a full-size SD card slot, where I can pop in a 128 GB card, as well as a micro SD card slot where I can plug in yet another.
But while the hardware is there, I CANNOT FIGURE OUT HOW TO GET THE MUSIC TO BE STORED ON THE EXTERNAL STORAGE! I've read all kinds of articles and threads that propose how to do it, but none of the methods have worked.
I tried:
A.
Navigating to the current location of the stored music (on this device it's /sdcard/Android/data/com.google.android.music/cache/music), deleting the 'music' folder and its contents, then making a new 'music' folder on the external SD and creating a symlink to it in the original location. This does not work. My file manager (rootbrowser) tells me that symbolic links are not supported by all filesystems (apparently including this one).
B.
Using the Cache Apps To SD app. The app works, but it does not move the correct files. It takes the cache located at /data/data/com.google.android.music/cache and moves it to the external SD. But that's not where Google Music stores the music, that's only where it stores... other things. The music files at /sdcard/Android/data/com.google.android.music/cache/music remain untouched, so this is useless.
C.
Moving the Google Play Music app itself to the external storage. To do this I tried both Apps2SD and Link2SD. Both do the same. What happens is the .apk file is moved to the external storage, but it doesn't take any of its files with it.
What do I do to make this work? I feel like doing this on 2.2 should be easy considering its friendliness with external storage, but no matter what I try I can't figure it out. I'd really appreciate someone's help with this one.
P.S. please don't make the obvious suggestion to upgrade to a newer version of Android. I would if that were possible, but it isn't.
Anyone? There's got to be someone who knows what to do with this. I know Android 2.2 is fading into the distant past by now, so I don't expect NEW enthusiasts to know how to use it, but aren't there any veterans on here that remember what they were doing in 2010? As far as I can tell this was a problem many people grappled with on their Galaxy S, Droid X, etc. phones.

Don't you worry about 2.2 fading to nonexistence - I develop on a device that still only supports 2.1!
I'll do some research on this topic, but I don't know if it's possible. It probably is, though, so don't get your feathers ruffled.

I appreciate your help on the matter. Have you found anything yet? What do you think about editing the vold.fstab file and switching the mounting points of the internal and external cards?

Actually, haven't done much research yet - been busy with school stuff. Sorry.
Switching the mount points on the sdcards shouldn't be too much of an issue, but we'd need to actually edit init.rc inside uRamdisk to get it to mount properly on boot.

Is that.... less easy? Your words do not inspire confidence.
Take your time though, midterms are going on after all. Let me know when you can help me out.

Sorry about my uninspiring speech.
It's not that hard, but it'll take some work.
I'll talk to you later. Have a good day.
Oh, I didn't mean any offense by that, I only meant that what you suggest seems difficult. Speak with you soon!

I guess the guy who was going to help me went and got his account disabled?

on all custom roms except for barrin rom...

the option to move apps to SD card is not on the phone anymore. I have smart booster pro which lists all the apps that could be moved but it sends me to the app info where you would normally check move to SD, but it is not there. I please help.
Btw the SD card has my music and pics and is read just fine by the phone.

It's been an oversight on the roms I built. Im not sure if any aosp roms out there have it working, if they do, I can merge the commits and rebuild. But if it's like NFC(which isnt working on any aosp rom build that I know of) we still just havent found a fix yet. Once we do, it will be implemented throughout my roms and almost definitely everyone elses. I apologize, its not something I use so I never tested it. Development is increasing everyday so don't worry! This all takes time, particularly when it is a hobby for most if not all of us and done in our free time. BarRin is stock based which is why it works on that.
