I've been having some weird experiences with the ICS keyboard not sure if they're bugs of the firmware or if its just me. So im just wondering if anyones suffering anything similar. Occasionally the keyboard will malfunction and after you finish typing a word and press space, it will repeat the word you just typed, and everything starts getting done in doubles and its really annoying I just have to wait for it to go away. Another annoying issue with the keyboard is that though it is able to predict what i want to say, it sometimes predicts what i want to say in capitals, this only really happens for small words which i use a lot for example the word "SO" and when im trying to text someone quickly or something if i press space it will change my "so" into "SO" and i dont realise and i just look silly in the end. I really like Sony's stock keyboard wouldnt want to have to get a third party like swiftkey, dont think its as good in my opinion. Anyone else had similar experiences or know of some fixes?
This is on the Xperia P btw
I get the same problem.
Also, sometimes when I select a word, the cursor moves to a different work, and I have to reload.

I've read earlier posts that had the same problem I do, but most of them were old (and hopefully the problem has been fixed now)
Swype makes the messaging lag because the client has to load a certain amount of messages before you can start. is there a way to either fix this, OR make the client not load as many messages?
i experienced the same problem so had to ditch swpye a few months back, great substitute for typing making fewer mistakes savng time so if anyone does have a solution please let us know
nope, apart from regularly deleting your texts theres no way round it....
swype has its own issues with lag though whether its htc messaging or winmo messaging... even right now ads I try and type this reply swype is making me want to smash my face into the phone and scream "why wont you type? why wont you ducking type!!"
Go to settings tab, then More.
then go to 'Personal', and go to 'Input'.
When your input methode is Swype, tap on the button Options.
In the options scroll a bit down, and look for the part called 'Operation'.
Slide the slider of Speed vs Accuracy completely to the left (fast response).
Then tap ok, and it should work better.
Let me know if it worked for you, because they told me here on XDA it can possibly work, but I dont have received enough text messages yet to test it.

Nah, that's how I always keep mine, using it any either way drives my crazy-er! thanks for trying though.
What do you mean, it works exacly the same
had same problem for a long time , only affects swype
On the hd2 their are temp files the msging app uses i noticed its bassicly a giant debug log. When I saw mine after only having my phone for 2 months it was about a gig or so...I highly suggest deleting that. I am not sure if the HD2 opens that or its just an appendage type thing.
the best "solution" I've discovered is just turning off threaded messages. it's kind of frustrating, but there is no lag now...
I've found that custom keyboards are laggy for me too. The best solution that I have found is to simply make my phone faster. when I overclock or install a custom kernel on my phone, it usually decreases the lag caused by custom keyboards.

Good point, but it does not work everywhere. If you open a message from the sense preview it always starts the threaded view even if it is disabled in the inbox. Do you know a way how to disable threaded view there too?

Yes, you're right, and no, I don't. I just have to go through all the shenanigans of clicking everything. To me, it's worth it to use swype, and it's still faster and less tedious in my opinion, than waiting for messages to load.
Now I am using the ShapeWriter beta. It does not lag like Swype, however I really miss the vibration and a few other things. like swyping smileys.
For me, the lag only occurs when I use the newer version, 3.9.
If I use the older version of Swype I get no lag. Don't know what the version is but I attached a screen shot of it.
My keyboard randomly stops working it let's me press buttons but nothing shows up I have to press the power button a few times till it works please help

I've had similar issues, but seemed to only occur when using a new input method or on reboot. I use swype and once I switched to the Evo swype apk, the problem stopped. Probably doesn't help your case, but I know you're not alone.
I know this may not really fix your problem but really just provide an alternative solution, you could use Swype. Swype is much faster (in my opinion), and you still have the option to type normally with it. You would have to download the beta from Swype's Website, it doesn't take too long to register for the beta.
I have had this problem too in the past. I'm just curious, do you use handcent? The only time I've really seen this happen for me is in handcent's popup windows, but I have no idea why it happens, and honestly, it doesn't happen often enough for me to want to try to figure it out. But I feel your pain, when it does happen, it's quite annoying :/
Happens to me all the time... I use Smart Keyboard Pro.
See my thread here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1132927
Wish I could figure this out. I type super fast and it's starting to get veryyy annoying.
Wow so does mine LOL I thought. I was crazy.

Ya i had major problems with this on the stock keyboard. I also had just general problems with lag sometimes in the stock messenger app, as well as receiving duplicates of text messages. I formatted the cache partition in cwr and used the gingerbread keyboard in the market and have since have had zero problems (so far lol).
Same Here!
I'm having similar issues. When I "wake" my TB up and try to go in to type a text message, email or any other thing that uses the keyboard, the keyboard shows up and allows me to type, but nothing shows up on the screen.
I've tried using the GB keyboard from the Market (which I REALLY like), but no matter what I try, I seem to have a problem. I thought it might be WidgetLocker interacting badly, but uninstalling that doesn't work. I thought it might be because I was using Go SMS Pro, but uninstalling that didn't work either. I went back to using the stock keyboard (which I really DON'T like), but to no avail. The only thing that DOES seem to work is to reboot the phone.
This is getting a little ridiculous! I don't want to have to reboot this phone every time the keyboard decides it doesn't want to work! Anyone have any advice?
Just FYI, I'm not rooted. I haven't gotten that far yet. The only thing I've done that isn't stock is to run Go Launcher as opposed to Sense. And this issue was happening when I was running Sense as well.
Alright, so I don't know if it's the phone, Swype, apps, or what, but recently (past couple weeks or so), whenever I tap on a word to edit it, the cursor moves to the beginning of the word. Even if I tap at the very end of the word, cursor still moves to the beginning. It's really annoying when I want to just delete the word (and tap at the end) or edit it. Is anyone else having a similar problem? Like I said before, this only started happening recently. By the way, I'm running everything stock. ICS, haven't rooted yet.

I have the same problem using Swype but only using chrome, I don't know why or how to solve it, but I know how to deal with it, try using another browser (Dolphin) or when I want to delete all, I swype swype icon+a (it's like ctrl+a in your pc).

Well, I have a different problem with Chrome altogether. In it, the cursor jumps to the beginning of the whole text box each time I go back to edit or add. Then, when I type, it exits the first word in the text box and kind of jumps around.
It's something different that I'm referencing here--the cursor is just jumping to the beginning of the word I'm on.
I can't explain it, nor give any scenario in which I would expect it to happen again, but fairly often (enough that I'm curious how many others are effected) as I'm typing and make an error, the delete key will delete entire words, phrases, lines, or intervals of, maybe, seven characters. This has been true with every firmware I've run, from out of the box stock ICS, to CM9, CM10, and now HB5.51(I think), as well as other keyboards, such as Swiftkey tablet X (and the new one), Swype, Hacker's Keyboard, and the stock ICS/JB keyboards, so I imagine this is an issue (forgive my lack of specific knowledge) with the software that receives input from the virtual keyboard. I do not yet own a keyboard dock, so I don't know if that would be affected. Anyone else see this? Is there a fix that I'm missing? Usually even the simplest issues are posted on here, but I haven't seen anything, so I'm kinda scared its just my issue. Thanks in advance!

I have run into a different issue with my Backspace key with the keyboard dock. Occasionally, while pressing the backspace key and deleting multiple characters it will stop functioning. In order to get it to work again I have to click on the screen in a different location and then back to the characters I am deleting it will work again.
I wonder if there is any correlation between the two.

I'm on T-mobile and got an HTC One a couple weeks ago. It is running android version 4.1.2 with HTC Sense version 5.0.
Everything is great except for an inexplicable problem I have when typing on the keyboard (HTC Sense input). No swype, just typing.
Normally, if you type a word that isn't in the dictionary, it displays the word you actually typed on the "word bar" that pops up. It shows up on the leftmost side. If you tap the word, it will be added to the dictionary. To the right of that word is the word it thinks you meant to type. If you just press space, it will auto correct to that suggested word. So far so good, this all makes sense.
Now, I have an extremely annoying problem. Say I want to type the word "jellybean." I am very careful to press each letter exactly, and can see the letters that pop up above the individual keyboard letters as I am typing. All correct. However, rather than showing that I typed "jellybean" it shows "helkybean." It does this kind of thing with almost every word. Another example, I'll type "morning." The word that shows up is "nirbibg." This appears on the leftmost side of the suggested word bar, implying that this is what I actually typed, and just to the right of that (first suggested word) it shows "morning." In other words, the phone seems to think I typed "nirbibg" when I meant to type morning.
I am totally baffled as to why this happens. Even if the calibration is off, I am clearly pressing the right keys! The correct letters are shown in the little popup as I'm typing. Why, oh why in the world would this be happening?
Here are some more examples, first showing what I'm actually typing and what the phone seems to think I am typing. I am being very careful to push each letter exactly:
Hello, how are you doing?
Hekki, hiw are yoy diibg?
This keyboard is really frustrating me.
Tgis jeyboard us reakky frustratubg ne.
This makes absolutely no sense at all.
Tgus najds absikuteky no sebse at akk.
Clearly this is a practical joke of some kind.
Ckearkg this is oractucak jije if sine kind.
Riding the Saturn 5 rocket must have been quite an experience.
Ridibg tge Saturb 5 ricjet nust have beeb quute an exoeruebce.
Also, I will type a word like "of," pressing each letter correctly, watching the pop-up confirmations show the correct letters, and still it types "if."
I have bilingual prediction off, and the keyboard language is English. Swype is off, though it didn't seem to make any difference whether it was on or off. My dictionary contains the usual naughty words that everyone must add at some point, with no such gibberish. If I just type normally, the gibberish word auto corrects to the right word when I press space, but I'd like to know why it even shows up in the first place when I clearly typed the correct letters!
I am sure this is a simple fix but I am just totally baffled as to why this happens. Any ideas? For what it's worth, this only seems to happen when I type in landscape mode.
Did you try re-calibrating the keyboard? (Settings>Language and keyboard>HTC Sense Input>Advanced>Calibration tool) Even if you don't think it's the problem, it's worth a shot - it only takes a minute, and it does noticeably improve the accuracy, at least to me. I just tried a bunch of random sentences and I was able to type all of them properly on the first try.
Yep, I did. First I reset the calibration, same thing. Then I re-calibrated. Same thing.
When I am typing in portrait mode it seems to be fine. No such problems. Only in landscape mode does this happen, but the calibration appears to only work in portrait mode. If there's a way to do a landscape calibration, I haven't found it.
Make sure every thing is set to English US. Even under post spellling settings.

I am running arhd 8.0 ElementalX kernel had same issue under settings. Its due to the languages . turns out Italian Portuguese Spanish french were on and its auto correcting, just make sure English is the only one checked should resolve the issue.

Yep, everything is set to English. That was one of the first things I checked. This includes the post-spelling check.
I also notice know this seems to only happen in the Facebook app...when I use Gmail or SMS, everything is fine. Hm...
That is not such a huge problem then, but I still don't understand why the behavior would change in a different app. I assumed the keyboard interface was low-level enough that the apps would not affect how it works. Weird...

I don't have a fix, but I wanted to let you know you're not alone. When I try typing "autocorrect" in the Facebook app (no other app does this) I get "auticirrect".
But get this. It only happens when I hold the phone horizontally. Vertically, it types fine.
It does other odd things too, like the word suggestion bar will freeze, even though I can still type. While signing up for this account, it did it again and the Sense keyboard crashed and sent an error report. Hopefully a fix is coming.
This may be stating the obvious, but if this problem continues, there are lots of keyboards available you can try that won't have this problem. I'm pleasantly surprised by the stock Sense keyboard, but there are others that I like more.
Not Isolated
As far as I can tell this isn't an isolated incident, as I'm able to replicate the incident as well.
To replicate:
1. Open the facebook app on a stock HTC One
2. Hit the write status button
3. flip the phone to horizontal position.
4. type an "o".
5. type another letter. watch as the "o" changes to an "i".

This worked for me, although it probably destroyed my personal dictionary as well. I'm still curious to know why it stored this specific data (that several people seem to share--I had the "auticirrect" problem as well) but seemingly only for facebook. Either it's a problem specifically with facebook, or facebook was using a different set of algos and files to autocorrect text input within the HTC keyboard's history. My suspicion is that this could happen with other apps as well if it could happen with Facebook, but I haven't run into any.
I don't know enough about the Android FS and what lengths apps are allowed to go to on unrooted devices, but I'd be interested to hear input from anyone that does.
I noticed when this happens to me , the language got changed. Just remove all languages except for English and you'll be fine.
It's mainly profanity that I have to make this damn thing learn.

Thank you! I got my One last week and this problem has been a PITA. Multiple google searches turned up nothing on it too. Don't know why I didn't think to check xda to begin with.
Same problem
I've had the exact same issue. cant for the life of me figure out the cause but interesting realization
The letters it replaces are the ones to the Left of the button, and only on the right side of the qwerty keyboard
For example, UIOP seems to replace letters with U < I < O < P. Im also getting J < K < L and B < N < M :/
Will try the fix suggested now but this is such a strange behavioral glitch...
Happening with my HTC one too. Sense my ass lol it's making no sense. I think what causes it is the stupid menu bar on the right which occupies exactly one key column worth of space. I don't use facebook so I don't know if that app has the soft menu bar on the right/bottom of the screen. The keyboard is offset visually but the autocorrect algorithm seems to assume the keyboard is laid out across the entire screen (ie even using the space occupied by the menu bar). Anyone care to check?
For what it's worth this problem should fix itself once we get the 4.2/4.3 update, when we can remap the menu bar to long pressing the home key.
