I flashed a stock 2.3.5 rom, using odin after I almost bricked my phone. Upon starting up my phone I immediately got the error that I could only make emergency calls. The strangest part of this is that my service state flicks on and off between in service and out of service, and my roaming switches randomly between not roaming and roaming. My provider is Telus and I have a sim card, and I'm pretty sure it works, I bought my phone from Telus.
My phone is able to connect to Kies.
Upon dialing *#1234# I get
PDA : S5830XWKS9
PHONE : S5830XWKS2
CSC : S5830XEOKP2
This CSC is for Poland, the rom I flashed was set to Poland for some reason, is this an issue? I live in Alberta, Canada, so my CSC code should not be set to this. I found a Telus CSC on this page in post #10, so I might try flashing that rom to see if that resolves my problems.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1390798
I also noticed that the PDA and PHONE last few letters are different(WKS9/WKS2) is this also an issue?
Additional information
Baseband version : S5830XWKS2
Kernel Version : 2.6.35.7-perf-CL654989
[email protected] #1
Build Number : GINGERBREAD.XWKS9
You can see more examples of different numbers when you look at this info, the Baseband version is WKS2 and the Build number is WKS9.
Should I phone up Telus to make sure I'm not being charged roaming fees while I am most certainly in their coverage area? And would it be possible that my imei number is blocked for some reason(The one on the battery is the same as the one in about phone and also the same as the one when you dial *#06#).
Although my phone does work sporadically I really want it to work 24/7 for a number of reasons including safety.
Any and all help is greatly appreciated, feel free to ask me for additional info, I'll do my best to get it.
Edit: My brother has a relatively new Galaxy Ace, also from Telus, exact same settings and everything I want, would it be possible to get CWM recovery on his phone and copy all the settings to my phone and restore my phone to his settings, bypassing having to screw around with all the settings on my phone?
The person in Post #8 on the site below said doing this worked for him(Although I don't understand why he replaced CWM with Ultrajack)
http://androidforums.com/huawei-m835/405469-apn-question.html
Ive also heard that you can remove your sim card and your sd card from your phone, connect it to odin and flash something to restore your phone to defaults, would there be any way to do this?
Edit: I solved this problem by finally finding the stock firmware for Telus here..
http://hotfile.com/dl/137128537/a629597/GT-S5830D_TLS_S5830DTLKI4_S5830DTLSKI4_S5830DTLKI4.rar.html
worked great, just flashed it in Odin, started up my phone and all the baseband, CSC, everything was the correct format(TLKI4), I think this works for Koodo as well, so if anyone has been facing some issues with their stock rom, just flash this one and any errors should be cleared up.
Please try flashing a full package Froyo
Herpderp Defy.
Did you flash a new baseband? On a possibly related note... I have the DTLKI baseband, and it comes on Koodo phones. Koodo is a Canadian subsidiary of Telus. I had flashed a new baseband on and had the same problem as you, it wouldn't pick up my network provider and luckily someone on here had uploaded the baseband I needed to pick up Koodo again. Maybe you're having the same issue? Try going to wireless & networks/mobile networks/ and then network operators. Check if you can find Telus. (if this is irrelevant, I apologize)
Yeah my brother phone has DTLKI baseband as well, do you have any links to that specific baseband? I can find Telus(and also Rogers for some reason), but using the right baseband couldn't hurt.
If I did flash a full package Froyo, could I connect it to Samsung Kies to update it to 2.3.4/2.3.5? I've also read on a lot of sites that Koodo/Telus Galaxy Aces have difficulties if the baseband isnt TLKI4 so if you know of any full package froyos that use that baseband version I would greatly appreciate it.
Well, you'll want to flash the modem with odin. and the modem only. I don't know if it's compatible with froyo though as I've only used GB myself. I'll email it to you. I received it from Kevinlekiller a long time ago. The filesharing site is now removed now though! It's worth a try if you don't have a limb to go on though I guess.
Gonna try it
How did you find that firmware? I looked all over the place for it and finally found your thread!
Gonna try it tonight, my CM makes my gps crash. No fix whatsoever. Hopefully this will restore it.
Worked!
Yay!
by the by, did you happen to lose GPS functionnality while flashing custom roms?
Forget that last question
Flashing back the stock firmware corrected all issues I had and now, all other firmwares are working A-OK.
Currently on ice cream sunday.
Hi,
First post on XDA so bare with me on this.
Have flashed my TELUS Note 717D with a few different ROM's over the last few days. With the news that Sammy will be pushing out official ICS in the next week or so I am trying to get my Note A$S back to stock including the correct radio file.
This is where I have come unstuck. I have all the correct files but for some reason I can't get my LTE back. Yes it was working prior to my loading new ROM's and also after I went testing. Had the soft bricking issue yesterday & managed to get that resolved but since then no LTE nada.
Loaded the full TELUS recovery (found here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1585440 ) and then the TELUS kernel.
Still no LTE. I have the GB & ICS radio files & now can’t get the recover to load any zip files as I get a error at the first screen.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Mike
I went thru this yesterday... i
I flashed the ATT stock rom/system from these boards, then downloaded the three part Telus file..when assembled its about 1 Gb...
After flashing ATT, I cleared dalvik, flashed the Telus stock.. Then i did a factory reset, and i was back.
I'm still running a non stock modem file.. But all is functioning.
Sent from my SGH-I717D using XDA
getting LTE now?
Everything is working but the lack of LTE is missing.
I am in downtown Vancouver & out address has a in building LTE system so coverage is not a problem.
Can you confiem that you have LTE? do you have the isp.telus.com apn too?
Mike
still having issues
I can flash the AT&T ROM with no problems using odin. when I reboot into recovery I am getting a error that wont allow me to use the power button and select the reset option.
The power button works because I can press and hold to reboot the phone but the white triangle with ! mark is in the moddle of the screen. With out that I am unable to do the resetting & clearing of the cache.
Any thoughts?

Yeah.. Unfortunately my skillset definitely into the "knows just enough to be dangerous" category..
What 'recovery' is currently in the phone? Stock recovery? A CWM type recovery? I ask because I had an issue once previously where the power button wouldn't let me select items.. but I was able to use one of the four soft buttons on the bottom front of the phone to execute the same command. Once it was the 'home' button.. on my current recovery software it's the search button oddly enough.
What happens when, from the phone dialpad after a normal boot, you key : *#2263# ?
Do you get the Band preference menu?
What's selected? What happens if you pick 4 (LTE) and then 7 (LTE ALL) ?
And have you done a factory reset on the phone after any of these flashes? (I didn't see where you had so I askl)
Lastly -- in the SETTINGS / WIRELESS & NETWORK / MOBILE NETWORKS menu.. do you have "NETWORK MODE" menu item that the stock Canadian i717 device has the AT&T device does not?
I'll add here as a postscript.. it may not matter ... if the update includes an updated radio file.. all this worrying over it may not much matter once the update comes?

I have CWM v5.5.0.4 installed which works but wont let me installed the radio file. Bombs out with errors.
When I flash the TELUS stock GB Kernel, I get the standard recovery which wont even let me see the radio file.
What happens when, from the phone dialpad after a normal boot, you key : *#2263# ?
I thought this was a At&t thing only? But that said I did try to the number and got a recorded annc saying that is was not a valid number.
Do you get the Band preference menu?
Yes I have the correct options and its set to use all the HSPA types & LTE too.
And have you done a factory reset on the phone after any of these flashes? (I didn't see where you had so I askl)
Yes I did the reset to factory in CWM after the At&t ROM flash and after I loaded the TELUS ROM too. I did had to load a different kernel to allow the CWM recovery but then installed the TELUS stock kernel after.
I'll add here as a postscript.. it may not matter ... if the update includes an updated radio file.. all this worrying over it may not much matter once the update comes?

Well, I have the same CWM .. I can't flash any of the supposedly flashable CWM modem files.. errors out part way thru. Weird.
I'm uploading my Telus Stock image that I used to Google drive.. I'll pm you the link once its up.
Sent you the links.
Also -- I managed to get the Bell Radio CWM file loaded on my Telus device from the thread located in this forum. (STOCK BELL thread)
There is now a Rogers stock thread and hopefully they'll have a Telus thread that will have a modem file that loads as well as the Bell one did. I can't imagine the differences are that great.
success
we have LTE!!!
Huge thanks for your help here. Flashing the BELL LTE radio file has now enabled the LTE in my telus note.
A little embarrassing as I work at telus but shhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.
XDA Dev site is the best for anything Andriod.

Yay!... See? Occasionally the blond leading the blind .. something good can come from it!
Plus I managed to get my modem back to stock as well .. I was using that T769 modem that was tweaked for Note use.. and all the Telus CWM modem files I would try to flash in ...just errored out.
I talk to Rogers and apparently there's the 401 sim that's not lte capable. They told me to go back to the store to get the 403 sim with lte capable, maybe that should help fix the problem. I'll give an update tmr once I get the new sim.
Does anyone know where I can find the Rogers radio or modem file? I found the radio but it says installation aborted when I try to flash CWM. I flash the Rogers modem file and the log shows me a installation success but it's i717M which is Bell, not Rogers. Can anyone give me a proper Rogers working link? also, apparently Radio and Modem is the same thing, it's just people playing with words, or I'm I getting it wrong? Thank you.

sorry. I wasn't sure I was at the right forum. should I delete the post? btw how do I get alert for reply that people made after me instead of bookmarking every page? Thanks.
Here is the link to the Rogers Modem, http://www.mediafire.com/?ol9yzmmjx8uayh5
you can always flash your modem using adb to push the back to the phone just follow this thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1506212
Thanks guys. I'll stick with the .zip files to flash in CWM for now as I'm not comfortable with adb yet. One missing letter and it can fail to boot or whatever...
Stock i500 shows roaming even after programming, wont SMS or pick up data. I notice looking through everything the ERI is; None.....
I used droidstyle's guide (beautiful write up) and reloaded EI20 2.3.5 gingerbread Rom & Atlas 2.2 pit file successfully using Odin3 V3.07- and still nothing
I then updated the flashed the EC09 Radio... same thing
Next re-did everything but used Odin V1.3 just to make sure I was not messing something up by using a newer version of the program I already had.
Here's what info is showing currently after everything:

The EI20 is for the Mesmerize/Showcase version, not the verizion/page plus fascinate
as far as I know that is the case,,, but for sure these work
as pulled from guide from droidstyle
Section 7: Radio/Modems
[EC09]- http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=631016&d=1308583586
This gingerbread radio gives me really good data speed w/ the least amount of 1x swtiching
[EH03]-http://www.mediafire.com/?uuvxtuwonl2e629
This latest gingerbread radio gives good data speed, but It spends alot of time in 1x
[ED05]- http://www.mediafire.com/?c7h1wl5wne51duf
This is probably the best froyo radio, but I get better data speeds with the gingerbread radios. Although this radio has less 1x switching than eh03 imo
Install through ODIN::
Step 1: Downlaod odin and samsung drivers from one of the previous sections to pc
Step 2: Download one of the radios from above to pc
Step 3: Power off phone, pull battery, and plug in usb cable from phone to pc
Step 4: Hold volume down until yellow triangle appears (download mode)
Step 5: Open odin and put the file you downloaded from step 2 in the pda function of odin and hit start
Step 6: After odin says successful, click reset, uplug usb cable, insert battery and reboot
-----------------------
have you activated the phone yet?
I remember this happening to me and others before,,, you may have to do an esn swap,,,IE: switch you account over to a different/old phone then back over th this new/current phone and it will re-initiate everything properly.

@ hhp_211 - I did try the Radio's listed but I had already tried these.
I ended up using the power wash ROM today same method for loading it, and it cleared up my data issues. I'm not sure why but the stock ROM just couldn't get it done I tried using V2.2 and 2.3.5 still same thing.
I'd like to understand this a little better if anyone can shed some light on this but my issue was resolved, thanks for the time guys.

Question: do you have an ERI now with working data, or do you simply have data but still no ERI [global data warning message?]
I run CM 10.1 on my phone, which had original specs: PDA:KG3 / PHONE:KE7 / CSC:KG1 (VNZ). I've been running those CM nightlies since about November 2012 with few problems, updating to new nightlies every few weeks to a month. I'd never flashed new radios - just the CM rom.
Starting a couple of months ago, I began to see a problem where my phone would drop cell service (no bars + empty triangle in the cell signal indicator) and rebooting was the only way to bring the cell signal back. This happened every couple of days, so was bearable. I figured something in the nightlies had caused a weird problem and that the CM devs/community would find and fix this.
After flashing a nightly last week, my phone wouldn't hold cell signal for more than an hour - sometimes not even that. Reboots fixed this but never permanently. I started to read about radios, modems, and RILs. hawkerpaul's post here was a great help. I found that my phone had the original KE7 radio but had a RIL of I9100XXLS8(2) - I presume from the CM rom? I flashed some new radios and have now gone through a series of the (matched) modem + RIL files in hawkerpaul's post above. In most cases I see the following behaviour:
Phone successfully finds network (Vodafone NZ) on boot
Trying to manually select a mobile operator fails (error when searching for networks)
Unable to successfully call out! Dialling stalls, and I can't hang up - only fixed by a reboot
How do I fix this immediate problem of not being able to call/receive calls? Seems like maybe I'm using a radio that doesn't work with Vodafone NZ - but I haven't seen any posts on what DOES work well with that network. I have the modem file to flash the original KE7 back again, but what should I do about the RIL file then? Not sure I have found an RIL for KE7 yet in my travels. Any help would be appreciated - and thanks!
To help me figure out where I went wrong, do the CM builds include the RIL, or is that something that could only get updated somewhere else? I know the rom doesn't change the modem but I suspect that XXLS8(2) RIL had to come from CM.
1) Don't mess with RIL's (You'll make it 'worse').
2) Check stock roms released by your telco. Find out which modems were bundled with those stock roms. Try those modems. If they don't help, look for stock roms released by other carriers which sold the the I9100T world-wide (check Samfirmware). Try the modems bundled with these roms. If they don't help, try any & every modem you can get your hands on.
If you've already flashed RIL's, you may well have created a bigger problem for yourself. You might want to do a clean install of stock as well for good measure if that's the case. The reason I stopped using CM9 (and never bothered with CM10) was similar issues that seem to have gotten introduced with a particular nightly & never went away (a fix was tried which benefited a very few problems who were having RIL problems but created problems for even more people who previously had no problems).

I'm just about at this point. If I reinstall stock, will that reset my modem as well?
Thanks for the help - looks like I did definitely make things worse.
You'll end up with whatever modem is bundled with the stock rom, so probably use the most recent released by your carrier, then you can try other modems released by your carrier as per my PP. The rationale with that is you'd hope your carrier has tested the modems they bundle with their stock roms so they work in most places/at most times with their network. Doing a clean install of stock should fix anything funky messing around with RIL's may have done as well.
If you get no joy from those, proceed as per my PP (You might get other suggestions from other people as well).
Thanks for the help. I was able to flash the latest stock rom, which included baseband I9100XXLS8. This worked fine for making and receiving calls. I lasted a couple of hours with that stock Samsung firmware before I started to get itchy for Android 4.2 again, so I've now rooted and am going to try CM10 again, but at least this time I know not to touch the modem - and I'm confident I can get back to stock again if I have any problems! Many thanks!
Glad you've got connectivity back You can flash modems as much as you want, I'd just be wary of messing with RIL's unless it's as an absolute last resort (I.E you have no connectivity & you've tried every single modem. Too many people try them when their connectivity is fine in the mistaken belief they're going to get 8Mbps instead of 7.8Mbps downloads, I.E it wasn't broke in the first place), even then a clean install of stock & choosing the right modem will often fix the problems.
You're welcome Any dramas post to this thread again & I'm sure someone will help.

Hi and thanks in advance. I have a galaxy i9100 which shows the following information: PDA: i9100xwlsd - Phone i9100xxls8 - Csc i9100vnzls9. I installed via odin Android version 4.1.2 which made the phone work really well except that it kept dropping network service and signal strength. I replaced the sim which did seem to help but did not fix the problem totally. I also notice that the GPS will not find any satellites and just keeps searching for as long as I would let it. I have read various threads and it appears that this may be a modem problem? I have found that Vodafone NZ has released a modem which is i9100xxls9? Should I flash the modem file only in Odin and do you really think this would fix the problem. How would I flash the modem file. Would I do this through odin? Any help gratefully received.
Yes, first step is definitely to flash the modem which was released by your carrier for your region. If you can find a file which is Odin flashable then yes, try it. However most of the files are for flashing via CWM. Are you rooted? If not they won't work for you, in which case you'll have to search around for an Odin flashable version of LS9.
Just to check, you do have an i9100? Not an i9100t etc? Some variants require different modems.

Thanks for the response. How do I know if a file is odin flashable? How do you flash via cwm (whatever that is). You can see I am a little bit or a lot of a novice on this. The unfortunate thing is I enjoy it. I think the phone is rooted and it says the phone is: Model GT- i9100. The phone was purchased in UAE and I have flashed the android 4.1.2 which was a vodafone NZ system. Everything works fine except the GPS and the phone signal drops out all the time showing no service when there is service? Thanks again for your help on this. I have just found that the phone may not be rooted? I tried to install root manager but it indicated phone was not rooted?
Ok so no offence, you need to do a lot of reading for yourself. Reading is the key to successful (ie without bricking) modification of your phone.
For a start, if you've flashed stock then of course you will not have root. You don't need to have root to flash a modem. Have a look here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1656005
I'm not saying to flash that modem file. But that's how you do it, now you just need to find your file and flash it.

I have a Verizon i605 that I've been using since around Christmas. I have decided to go to ATT go phone or straight talk, but I can't get the phone to accept a GSM sim card of any kind. Ive tried an H20 sim, 2 different GoPhone sims and a straight talk (att) sim. In all cases the phone will give the NON-Verizon sim error and not allow any calls. I've tried flashing different ROMs and no changes have taken place. I have also tried flashing the radio to no avail. I've searched all night in the forums and have come up empty. Seems like im the only one who cant get any response from the phone in GSM. For the record, the phone is rooted and unlocked, Ive tried GSM only and global modes, I can sometimes get the phone to show signal but get a "phone is not registered" error when trying to dial out. Replacing my Verizon sim results in full working use. Does anybody know anything else I can try? I'm working on downloading VRAMC3 to flash in Heimdall but thought I would reach out before losing my root/unlock. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Add in the APN info and you should be good. The non verizon sim error is normal unless you remove files that make that happen.
Either flash a ROM that has the AT&T APN info like JellyBeans 21 or...
Check out one of my old posts about the AT&T APN info http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=42953285&postcount=4
I will try to keep an eye on this thread and help out if you need further assistance, good luck.
correct me if im wrong, but wouldnt you lose lte because of the different frequencies?

Ive tried beans 21 and cleanrom 5.0. Ive gitten some network respinse from flashing cleanrom as if it is a n7100 but that is when I get the cannot register on the network errors. It will show a signal from at&t at that point. Im currently downloading the odin file but will have to use heimdall fir the first time to flash it because im now running osx. Hopefully it will work. I dow however think that my problem may be kernel related as I cant get the phone to charge past about 50%. Ive tried flashing beans using several variants of the kernel and havent had luck there either.
Now I can't get Heimdall to recognize the PIT that I'm pulling from my own device or load the odin file I've downloaded. Should the Odin file be in zip format? How do I make it an MD5 file for heimdall?
I am in the exact same situation as you. I have a VZW Note 2 and went to AT&T on a GoPhone plan.
When I first set it up I took my phone in with JellyBeans 18 on it and the manager at the store put my sim in and activated it and set up all my APN info. Try doing that, install any ROM (full data wipe and format) that you know works 100% with AT&T (including kernel) and just have them set it up for you. if it then don't work, you might be looking at a hardware problem with your GSM radio maybe?
All is good. Apparently the sim I was trying to use had a data block on it and the GN2 WILL NOT work with a phone with a data block. I borrowed a friends ST sim and it worked fine. I stressed an entire day over this. Thanks to those who helped. If anybody knows though, I took no OTA update EVER on this phone, can I ODIN (Heimdall) back to VRALJ with no problems? It's the only tar.md5 file i can seem to locate.
