root using one of the methods on the forum, then flash the ROM via CWM recovery. Shouldn't be any trouble as long as you follow the given instructions for each process.

Tough luck , that you received a 2.2.1 device . If you do want to root and get into business you have to downgrade to 2.2 through what I would recommend KDZ ( V10B is a good firmware ) .

thanks... started off now...
DOWNGRADE : check (now on 2.2 , soft version: V10b-OCT-02-2010)
ROOTING : check (used my favorite SuperOneClick v1.7-shortfuse and RageAgainstTheCage attack)[apparently was getting stuck at psneuter attack ]
CUSTOM RECOVERY : check (i dont get it why u guys are worrying so much abt android sdk... u just need 3 files for ADB to work adb.exe | AdbWinApi.dll | AdbWinUsbApi.dll thats it... no need to download whole SDK and then further do repo downloads )
now need help with ROMS & KERNELS... from wht i have been reading u need to WIPE SDCARD to install ROMs??? why? for A2SD? doesnt Froyo+ android version already support app2sd? i dont want to partition my sdcard (use it on many devices)... can i still install custom ROMs available here?
i want a stable / low battery hogging ROM... 2.3 preferred (although 2.2 will also do) which can support custom kernels
i see some undervolted and overclocked kernels available... excited to try them out...
any suggestions on these?
thank you all for ur help!!!
Sdcard wipe is necessary only if using an ext partition. Some ROMs need it, some not.
There are 0 kernels with undervolting.
You should test a Froyo ROM and then a Gingerbread one to see the differences.
Good luck !
Agreed with badeaioan.
You should try a custom Froyo based ROM before anything else and that's because once you get to a GB ROM you will not want to go back.

aprat from KIES update there are 2 ways,
1) official ICS flash from ODIN, 2) Custom Roms flash from CWM
for official you dont need Rooting,
for flashing Custom Roms from CWM you need Rooting & CWM.
Official Roms :http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1544487
custom Roms you can find here : http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=1204
rooting and Odin flash guides are there in my signature links
to learn more : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1442549
OP Kies is your official update path download it from Samsung .
Or the XDA path as posted above but you will need to read and understand .

thank you Zacq8 and Jjegan..
thanks for quick response, suggest me which is the best and less battery consuming ROM for sg2? Official or custom?
Neither. No such thing as best. Less battery depends on how you have the phone setup & how you use it (everyone is different). Try some roms out for yourself to find out which works best for you.

What suggested by Mistahbungle +
only what we can answer as per the rule is, By flashing official ROM you will not get any suppot from Samsung, by flasing a custom rom you may get support from it's Developer through his thread in this forum.
in development section, there are not only a single post of ROM of each custom Rom thread but there are prolonged discussions on each one, go through them before selecting one...
Hi everyone!
I've got Android 4.0.3 (stock) on my Galaxy S2, hurray!
Now I'd like to root my device. Can somebody point me to a correct procedure for doing this for my Android version?
My details are:
Android Version: 4.0.3
Baseband version: I9100BVLPB
Kernel version: 3.0.15-I9100BVLPB-CL310231 [email protected] #3
Build number: IML74K.BVLPB
Thank you all!!!
Either use cfroot or
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1501719
Thank you. I'm afraid not to brick my phone, so link provided would fit my Android version and stuff?
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA
Yes its safe and works in all stock ics roms. But you need micro sdcard for it. And the temp cwm you will get is touch version.
By the way the link to CF-Root post is:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1103399
But plz make sure you read all of the instructions properly in order to avoid problems.
Hey All.
I rooted my phone previously using method one from this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1746794 and installed clockwork mod using this: http://galaxys2root.com/galaxy-s2-r...ckworkmod-recovery-on-rooted-galaxy-s2-i9100/
My phone's carrier is Optus and I am currently running Android 4.0.4 with baseband version I9I00XXLQ6 and build number IMM76D.XWLPW
I'm wanting to update my firmware to Android 4.1 .. can anyone point me in the right direction of some instructions which will enable me to do this with my current phone versions?
Thanks
I have recently flashed Jellybam onto my S2... (4.1.2)
Other than I cant find google talk on the latest version, its works perfectly.
The instructions are pretty clear once you have your phone rooted with Clockworkmod. It only takes a small number of steps and a couple of minutes.
This is the thread for the ROM
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1903162
and it points you to this site
http://www.igio90.net/device/samsung-galaxy-s2-i9100/
I'm no expert (not by a long way!) but shout if you have any questions and if I can help you out, I will!
cheers,
Paul.

Just download the rom you want from dev section, place on sdcard and flash via CWM same as you would any other rom.
Hi,
is it smart to put Cyanogenmod on my new S3 if yes why or why not?
And what is the stock rom download link for my phone?
I touched: *#1234# in the telephone app and it gave me this:
AP: I9300XXUGND5
CP: I9300XXUGNA8
CSC: I9300PHNGNE1
And when I go to the device-info it says:
Android-version: 4.3
Baseband-Version: I9300XXUGNA8
I life in the netherlands pls help
I think the recent CM11 isn't stable. Try AOKP-, Omni-, TW-based Roms instead.
Official firmware you get here: www.sammobile.com
Flashing this by Odin lets you loose Root and CustomRecovery.

Hi, what rom do you recommend for me?
And how do I install that rom?
I prefer TW-based roms without all the Sam-bloat, because camera- and radio-hardware are supported better, likes me. I prefer NanoRom, since yesterday developed in xda, too.
Read any tutorial (the search-button, you know ), how to install / flash a custom-rom and then play with their variosity...
Becareful to ask which rom to use as this is against the rules.
cm11 is very stable for me, haven't had a crash in weeks.
