Try your phone first, if that doesn't work. Then pop it in your computer and try a fat32 format. It'll go to 32GB. Then put it in your phone and it'll format it again and it should be 64GB

I use guiformat (cannot link due to forum rules, use google it's the first result) to format the card in FAT32 and get the entire space, otherwise it cannot be seen by ClockWork Mod Recovery

Yes it can be seen, just not by the touch version.

i'm looking to root my S3 etc and run Resurrection Remix Jelly Bean ROM [AOKP M1]...
i have a sandisk 64gb sd card in my phone at the moment which is working fine, after some format work, and i want to keep using this card while running Resurrection
is it simply a matter of formatting to FAT32? or is it more difficult?

[Q] Problems with 32GB card

I just put my 32GB class 4 Adata memory card into my Legend and it won't mount. Is there something I can do about it ? I'm running Cyanogenmod7. I get "SD card safe to remove" notification upon boot.
Try first to farmat that card into windows as FAT32 (full format, not quick)
It might be a good idea to boot into clockwork mod and format and partition memory card with ext and fat32.
sent from my legend using ICS 4.0.4 ALPHA 4.
Doesnt work after full format...
on you're pc is it working?

try to use chkflsh on your PC to test, wether all sectors are ok. May be, there are some defects.
It works perfectly in my Sansa Clip mp3 player.
alligator, I use Ubuntu, do you know any linux tool for that ?

Did your SD Card work before or is this the first time you've tried it?
If its your first time, it is mostly likely that the SD card is not compatible. Some SD cards are not compatible on the Legend so your best solution is to buy one that is. Or if you are pretty sure it works then you can always try reflashing your rom.
If it worked before then the best solution is to reflash the rom. I had to do it once and the issue was solved.
Good luck

[Q] Komputerbay 64gb SDXC not working in S2

Hello:
I purchased a Komputerbay 64gb SDXC Class 6 card from Amazon, planning to use it in my S2. Unfortunately, it does not seem to work. I wanted to get the Sandisk, but they were sold out...
When plugged in, I get an error about an empty card, and offer to format it - this seems to be stuck, does not finish even after an hour.
The card seems to work fine in my Macbook, and in a Huawei Mediapad running ICS.
Any ideas ? Returning the card is not easy - I got it on a trip to US, and I am now back in Czech republic.....
Thanks for any info, Paul.
in order for it to work in an S2 the card needs to be formatted to Fat32 - it doesn't support exFat (default format of sdxc cards)

Try connecting your phone to your comp and format it to Fat32 from there

Thanks for the reply.
It is the formatting in the S2 which does not seem to work - never finished, seems stuck.

interesting ides....
When connected in USB debug mode, only the build-in memory shows up on my Mac. The uninitialized USB card does not show up in Disk Utility ( the OS X program for formatting ).
Thanks, Paul.
Take card out of phone, put in computer, format FAT32.
Plug it into your MacBook, open up disk utility, format the disk as FAT32. Backup the stuff on it before you do it though!

Thanks for the suggestion - this was one of the first things I tried...no go.....
The card formatted this way works fine in an Huawei MediaPad ICS tablet....I am beginning to think there is some hardware incompatibility between the card and the S2. There are user reporting success with this card and S2 on Amazon.
Paul.
Are you running a custom Rom in your S2? I had similar problems, for some reason the format tool doesn't seem to work right. I used this tool - EaseUS Partition Manager to first remove the exFAT partition, then create a new Fat32 partition with the total space used (remember to select 'apply' between steps) then I put it in the phone and it all worked. If it still does not work after that I'd sort out an RMA.
Gsm arena says s2 suports sd cards up to 32 gb maybe this is a problem...

I'm running a 64GB card in my SGS2, it does support them but they must be formatted to Fat32 (which windows doesn't support doing so a 3rd party app is needed)
Try Gparted.Google to find download and tutorial
sometimes windows doesn't format correctly
Windows can't format an sd card larger than 32gb with fat32, only ntfs or exfat I think
I should say I also used Easeus Position Manager to actually format the card. I also put the card in a card reader, it wasn't in my GS2 when I first formatted it to Fat32 from exFat.
This isn't necessary, it's just how I did it.
Sent from my GT-I9100
It does support cards larger than 32GB as long as they're formatted correctly.
The screenshot just shows that my GS2 does recognise the card.

This worked for me in less than a minute: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1698672&page=9 (see post 85).
Note: despite the thread being about the SIII, it did the trick for my SII (ROM: CyanogenMod nightly august 26th; kernel: Siyah v4.1.1).
I have had a 64gig card in my phone from Sandisk.
suddenly after 7 months it started to do funny things, not saving pics/movies etc.
Using a galaxy s2 with 4.1.1 and 3.0.15 siyah kernel
Ressurection remix JB
On my computer have the same problem with the card, i can write stuff on it, can read stuff and delete,
When i turn the card out of the computer and then insert it again.
Nothing has changed, nothing extra on the card and the pieces ive deleted are back again and still working.
Got a really expensive 64gig writeable here :S
Can not format it also , even with some tools like posted before, it gives an error.
So boys and girls, it does not always work fine.
And Sandisk says, o no, your phone doesnt support it so no service.
Screw them i say, i never buy sandisk anymore
64 GB what are you planning to do?
Anyways... You need that post #85 tweak
Peace
Hit Thanks & It will Disappear

roms and 64gb sd card

is there any rom that will not mess up my 64gb micro sd card that i have in my note2. i have had them get corupted on my s3 before and dont want to have it happen again. thanks for the help
I'm using a Sandisk card no issues so far.. I did format the card from exfat to fat32 as some kernels don't support exFat.. Also AOSP Roms I believe would need fat32 (not sure if things changed since I last read )..
Take Note2 BK's here..

You won't screw it up.. Backup all files to computer.. And format away.. Then back onto sd card.. I did mine on Mac but Droidstyle has link on his informative thread..

I have sandisk ultra 64GB and i never had a problem with any custom rom.
The only thing, some apps from google play sees your SD card as 12gb (for example Airdroid)

Since I cant move any apps to the ext SD card yet..Im lost...never the less, I still bought a 64 gig class 10 card and put it in the phone. It won't read it. Just says Mount SD card. I try to do it and says the card is safe to remove.

The problem is in format of SDcard. Actually, Faux Kernel won't read exFat format, which is mostly used to format 64Gb storages. There two ways to fix it:
1. Flash Ktoonez kernel (KT-kernel) that supports exFat (just like stock kernel).
2. Find the way to format your SDcard into Fat32 format. There is utility named Fat32Format can be found on the Internet. Or, if you are on Mac - just select Fat format.

caution, formatting 64gb cards in fat32 can cause data corruption over time. i recomend this mod. works on aosp and tw roms that have init.d support. i use it and works great for exfat support http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2155363

YP G70 microSD media scanning don't work

Hi, I recently reverted from KK rom to stock 2.3.3. There is a strange problem only with files on microSD. I copy files on it but at first reboot the media scanning tells me card problem (broken?). If I don't restart the files are generally played!!! I try different sd and different method of format. Any suggestion???

If you've not done a /data wipe after downgrading, that can be an issue. Else, copy the files of your sd to your PC and then format it on your galaxy player.

The problem is that I sell the player, I always used a Sandisk 32GB with no problem. Now the buyer tell me that there is this problem with a Samsung! Thank you, I'll suggest a sd exchange... maybe a speed class compability....
I have the same problem with my sandisk 32 GB card and found out that it was the problem.
Update SanDisk will replace the card so as long as you have it. I wrote a review on it. Just let it update though.

Nope, I have to buy new one. I have been using my card for 2 years. The card performance have been degraded due to extensive read and write, after reading your sugestion I tested the card using software called "AOMEI partition manager" and the result are degraded performance due to extensive read and write.
For information to other people with same problem; I use "persyst.sys.vold.switchexternal" mod/workarround to swap galaxy player limited storage with my 64 Gb card. This mod make the card work very very hard and degrade card performance.
Hope this information will help other people with same problem.
