[Q] Evo Design Sim unlock? - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Me and my Girl just jumped off the sprint bandwagon and going all GSM. I was able to get the Nexus but she wants to keep her Design she got from Sprint. The phone is a world phone so it has the proper GSM radios to work but i cant seem to Disable the CMDA radios and Enable the GSM ones. If someone could point me to a Forum or help my with this it would be very much appreciated

[Q] Unlocked phone question

First of all, let me say that I'm not trying to break any laws here. I am simply curious about some technical aspects.
Q: What kind of tweaks would be involved to make a CDMA phone from one carrier work with another CMDA carrier? E.G., A droid running on Sprint or an EVO on Virgin Mobile.
I started researching about this, but I can hardly find any info. Are unlocked phones not that popular anymore or do carriers just not support them?
From what I gathered, one would have to change PRLs, install new phone, telephony, and mms APKs, and probably change MEID/ ESN and possibly flash new radios and have an unlocked phone of course.
How close am I here?
TY in advance.

Unlocked phones are very popular but CDMA phones are not when it comes to unlocking. Ultimately you have to get the company to agreebto add the phone to its network which it has the right to refuse lt. You would need to change the ESN which is not legal anywhere and why you won't find the info on XDA.

[Q] Changing Phones?

Hi, I have the GSM model of HTC Evo 3D from rogers and I wanted to know if I could possibly switch my phone now for an Iphone 4 or 4s. It that possible. If so, how much would it cost around? I wanted to see what kind of responses I would get before I continue onto asking Rogers.

GSM question....without flashing/rooting for ATT in USA?

I read the massive post about how the Rezound can now work on a GSM network with flashing/rooting. My question is can it be done without doing either of those? Did the ICS update make it possible? I am asking these questions because my girlfriend wants the Rezound but has a contract with ATT. I'm not super tech savvy when it comes to these type of things, so if its an easy fix or the ICS update fixed it then I'd happily get her the phone. From everything I've read everybody seems to be extremely happy with it, I just switched from an iPhone to a One X and cant believe I ever picked up an iPhone.
Any help would be appreciated!
Thanks
You might have to be rooted to get 3g to work.
Why would you get a phone for $700 from a different carrier, pay for an AT&T sim card, and go through all the trouble and issues of using a CDMA phone on a GSM network when you can get a One x for a third of the price, with LTE, and without any issues?
Yeah what he said ^
Have her get an HTC one X or wait till the One X+ hits. The one x kills the Rezound, and it's a lot of trouble to get 3G working on the Rezound

[Q] Evo LTE flashed with One SV/Force for LTE on Boost

I have the HTC Evo LTE flashed to Boost with a 3G doner phone (TP2). Been working great.
I now want to flash a One SV or a Boost Force (made by ZTE) to have 4G as part of my service as well.
Would this be possible? With regard to flashing LTE from phones, is that plausible in this case? I have CDMA paid and other tools. I want information before I attempt to tackle this project.
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Honestly, your treading open water there, (I'm betting) your not gonna find anyone to offer any input simply because very little to few have even attempted yet...I would have already myself, as I work exclusively with flashing to Boost, but unfortunately, Columbus doesn't have LTE yet. I can tell you though, that the second we get it up and running out here I will dive into it and definitely report back here if no one else hasn't yet.
Would love to hear how it went for you if you try it, a nice tutorial would even be nicer . Good luck with it, either way. BTW, I have heard it is definitely plausible.

[Q] can I use a gsm carrier with a rooted HTC EVO Design (Kingdom)?

I have an HTC EVO Design (Kingdom) from Sprint. It is a hybrid CDMA/GSM world phone with a sim slot, but it is network locked to Sprint only in the US. I am wondering if I root this phone with a custom rom/kernel, will I be able to use it with any GSM carrier in the US?
Thanks for any responses in advance!
I've been doing a lot of searching around on this matter to try and figure this out on my own but haven't found the answer to my question, that's why I finally decided to make this thread here.
I've seen some threads about S-OFF and wondering if doing that to my Evo Design will enable it to work with US GSM carriers..
Any input is greatly appreciated.

Yes, you can. Sprint merely required a call [see their owners' manual], but Boost, FreedomPop or [Hero S] USCC require a sim unlock. I acheived this w/ a hardware tool [riffbox], but I'm sure there are other methods.

Rob
