as long as you charged it to 100% before you set it up, or had the charger in the phone before you turned it on. should be fine i couldn't resist lol. but i had my charger in the phone for an hour before i booted it up. and try to charge it with the phone off it gives it a better charge.

Hey guys, both my and my gf bougth and Arc, when i bought mine the dealer recommended me to charge the phone for 16 hours before i started using it. I think i was in a hurry the next day and the phone only got 9-10 hours.
My battery time is not great but not bad either, first 15% goes fast, then it kinda slows down.
My question is is it a one time chance you have to charge the battery first time you get it, and if you dont do it proberly well too bad? Just curious how long you guys charged it the first time and if you think it matters much??

16 hours seems a lot, I've only ever done a few hours (3/4) which has usually given a full charge, but I do cycle my battery i.e will let it drain fully (below 10%) before recharging.
That whole "16 hours" thing is BS.... that sort of treatment is not required for modern batteries.. and in any case the phone will stop charging when it hits 100%.. the only thing that seems to help is to run the phone down to about 20% a few times (through normal use..) but I've also read that a complete discharge every now and again helps..
it helps to cycle
16 hours is as said before bullpoop.... 100% charged and it will stop
the battery tech is li-po. lipo bats are ment to be 100% discharged and then 100% recharged....(trickle charged if possible) not sure how a phone charges there bats though
lipo unlike other types actully do have a proper memery and if you keep half charging or dont let it run right down the bat will over time last less and less......
even then they dont last forever i replace mine every year with a new set (i say set as i own 2 bats and carry the spare one with me when im out hard usage i can get half a day out of my phone so 2 bats works for me. i no longer use my phone for charging i have a battery dock that now charges my phone
hope this helped

Does Galaxy Ace shows a notification when battery is fully charged ? Yesterday I got a new Ace, I kept it for charging for around 3-4hrs.. The battery indicator shows the battery full, but notification on the homescreen(when its locked) showed its charging..
How am I suppose to understand its fully charged..?
Yes, normally a notification should appear when the battery is fully charged!
How much hours does it take to fully charge if the battery is around 5%?
The battery isn't fully charged until you don't get a notification (both sound and green icon on the top-left corner). That's even if you see the indicator showing 100%
Wow..my battery is still blue.. in the right hand corner.. How long does it takes to fully charge?
Depending on ROM / mods, your battery icon may look different. But a notification should show up after around 3 hours.

Well that depends, wether you're charging via USB or the wall-charger (I don't really know the name of that thing xD )
USB charging requires more time, I've tried and it took me about 4-5 hours to full charge the phone.

Ok..Last nite... I charged for 3-4 hrs.. but didnt get any notification..maybe I will try it today..Is it ok to leave it on charge over-nite? Maybe 6-7 hrs after a full deplete..?
Have you tried to reflash your ROM? There's maybe something wrong within the kernel.
And about charging overnight... I doubt that's a safe thing to do..
Used to charge my old phone overnight everytime and now it's battery depleted within 4 hours after a full charge.

well, certainly not on froyo. probably only ginger has it in-built-i get it on galaxy s (ginger) but not on Ace (froyo).
Hey!
You can charge it over night. And it shows notification in home screen CHARGED!
CHEERS!
@rhadrio I havent re flashed it..just got it yesterday.
I guess the battery nowadays have no -ve effect, if we over charge them.. ? Any one can confirm this?

Of course its NOT good, if you OVER CHARGE it every time. And for correcting battery stats, you need to calibrate it(you must be ROOTED, before use BATTERY CALIBRATOR[free from MARKET]). But still I suggest to use it(BATTERY CALIBRATOR) only if you get too fastley drain you battery(I mean, if you see that you battery getting worst or similar).
CHEERS!
I haven't rooted it yet. I will charge it overnite today & lets see if its works better tomorrow..
Batteries now have built-in overcharging prevention. No worries.

Well.. I kept it over nite.. In the morning I saw a notification on the phone as "Charged", but I am not sure how many hours did it take to charge it.
I dont know about battery issue aftr overnight charging.....but i used to charge my 5800 overnight daily, i used 2 and hlf years but nothing happend to batry or batry back up...
and if u charge yor ACE with AC charger it will take min 4 hours as our chargers are 0.7A
and if u charge with USB ur cell will get completly charged in half time compared to AC charger

...nope! usb is 500 mA (0.5 A) max - in best case, depending on mode etc. so AC charger is faster as it's 0.7 A. max 3-4 hrs here on ac.
Hi all!
This may sound quite noobish, but I feel better doing the right thing from the start.
On the equipment manual they ask you to charge your phone before first usage, however many people defend that since the battery has some charge when unboxing, that the battery should first be drained (phone usage) and only then charged.
Can anyone shed some light for me on this issue?
Thanks!
I'll ask in a different way since no one answered me...
what did you do with your phone, first finished the half-charged battery that came with the phone, or before first use you charged it full?
i opened the box and set up my phone and used it til it fully drained and turned itself off. then i charged it whilst still turned off when i was asleep (about 8-9 hrs). turned it back on .... i also only put the charger in now if its under 15% (dunno why i just do ) maybe its my ocd lol
hi,
I recently change from rom IC stock to JB stock (Spain). Every thing is fine except after working with phone for some time & battery used up to 25%, suddenlly the signal drops & phone shuts down. I cannot turn on the phone unless I plug in the charger where my battery is 0%. Also after flashing to JB, I wiped the data in recovery.
Phone is NOT root & battery is brand new.
Thanx

Did you create this topic immediately after putting it on charge or did you at least wait a hour or 2?

Yes, I know what happened you said so in your first post, My point was have you left it charging yet, for an hour or 2 and then tried to boot?

Actually I had the same problem with my old battery. I was advised to change the battery; with the brand new one, I left it charge fully to 100% for 6 hours as per instruction, then turn the phone on as the aforementioned problem occurred again. Again put it on charge for couple of hours to 100% charge then reboot the phone. Right now every thing looks Ok but I am worried why it happened with the new battery. is it the rom or the phone?
Hello guys this is my first post talking about my problematic i9001
A few months back (in november last year) I consumed the battery till it got to 0% and it shut itself off without turning on. Whenever I tried to plug the charger in , it would show a grey battery with a circle in the middle on and on without charging . Then I tried plugging the battery to a universal charger and miracle ! The phone turned on ! But whenever I charge it , the phone gets reaaaaally hot and charges really slow .
Last night I left the phone to charge overnight (plugged it in at 2%) and in the morning the phone had the same grey battery logo meaning the battery is completely empty
So I know the battery has issues BUT does my phone also have USB charger issues ? Because it charges really slow and the phone gets really hot.
Sorry if I did any mistakes and if I did not give enough details
