[Q] PimpMyRom - Verizon Samsung Galaxy Note II

Would pimp my rom be compatible with this phone now that we have an unlocked bootloader? I just want to make sure it'll be safe to use before I go and use it and ruin my phone.
Thanks in advance.

Some questions about bootloader and rooting

Hi!
This summer I'm getting my first Android phone (Xperia S), and I have some questions about rooting. I would post this in the Development section, but I don't have 10 posts.
Since I'm a power user, I want to root my phone, but since I never had a smart phone, I'm not that familiar with the rooting process. I know what bootloader and rooting itself is, but when I'm reading the guides, I'm not completely familiar with all the terms and whatnot.
I only want to root my phone, without using any special roms or anything. Should I keep my bootloader locked or should I unlock it? Does this affect the updates in any way? If I unlock the bootloader, will I still be able to update the phone or will I need to relock it?
Will I need to reroot the phone after each firmware update?
If you have any additional hints or information, I would be glad to read it.
Regards,
Klemen
The main benefit of rooting your phone is you can install any software you want, some apps need root permission, you can also customize UI, tweak performance, making a better battery life, etc.
on this device, you can relock it. If you doubt about your warranty, you can use the rooting with locked bootloader method. but you still need to relock if you want to claim your warranty in some cases. I hope you will not.
my advice is just use to your phone first, you enjoy with keyboard, texting, surfing on google play, bla bla bla. You will find the answer why you want to root or not.
I already know that I want to root my phone, the main reason is to get rid of the ads.
I'm just not sure, which is the preferred method of rooting it. I'm curious what's going to happen to future updates if I root the phone (some say, that every firmware unroots the phone).

I've numbered your questions in the quote, and made them bold for easier explanation.
1. Considering your last post (you want mostly to remove ads), I would recommend keeping it locked. For rooting it and installing CWM Recovery (I can try to explain what this is, if you don't know), you can follow this tutorial: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1742992
2. As said by XGAdev, you must relock your bootloader if you need to send it to warranty or update using either SUS or PC Companion. But you always can use Flashtool for updating. Just download the original firware you want, put it on the right folder and flash it.
3. Well, the answer is on the second one.
Right now, you just want to remove ads. In no time you will be heavily modding it, theming, etc. This also happened to me
If you need anything else, just say it. Press the thanks button if I was helpful enough, and if you want to press it. If not, just say it
My opinion:
Keep the BL locked, so you don't loose the DRM Keys, and follow the Root with BL Locked Guide to obtain Root Acess...
Unless you really want to have a tweaked kernel you wont need to Unlock the BL

What about if I decide to unlock my bootloader? How can I root ICS and install CWM in that case?

What's the difference between the Advanced Stock ICS Kernel and the SSpeed Kernel? The SSpeed is supposed to increase performance, but is the difference noticeable?

The advanced stock kernel is same as stock without overclocking, and default governor.

So, when I get my phone, I just unlock the bootloader, use fastboot to flash the Advanced Stock ICS Kernel, and use the ClockworkMod to flash a ROM?

I bet you're like me and won't be able to stop there. And I guess that you'd want to try jelly bean and for that (at least as of today) you need unlocked one...

Well, for starters, I'm only going to root the phone. After some time, I'll maybe consider trying other ROMs.
Any ROM can be used in Locked BL (rooted)?

Should I root my HTC Desire X? (any advice will get thanks)

Hello,
I'm really confused should I root my phone or not, I want to have apps like titanium backup, juice defender, screen cast etc. But on the other side I don't want to lose my warranty. So I created some questions that you can answer me to help me decide.
Why should I root?
Is it worth it for some apps?
Is rooting safer than installing a custom rom?
Is it hard to do?
Should I install a custom rom ?
Is there any way getting back your warranty?
Should I root it because I have the phone only a week?
Any good guides?
What to do if I brick my phone?
Will I still have all apps?
What are the pro's and con's?
Any more information I need please post.
Hit the Thanks button!
I think you can simplify the questions by asking yourself whether you think you are someone who likes to tinker with their phone and get under the hood a little, or whether you are generally happy with how it's working now and merely curious what all the fuss is about?
You may conclude from either question that rooting is worth a try. It's probably a good idea to have at least a good reason to (such as wanting to install a root-only app like AdAway or having a custom recovery like TeamWin or ClockWork Mod for backups and such, or for installing one of the cool ROMs we have available in these forums).
I was apprehensive the first time I rooted, but now I can't imagine running my phone without it. Especially thanks to the custom ROMs we have here and the many mods and apps that require root/busybox/init.d etc to run. That said, I wouldn't advise rooting to someone else unless they were comfortable with the notion that they might not be covered under warranty anymore, and would have to rely on their own and this community to deal with any problems they might encounter. You can get your phone back to stock ROM and unrooted, with a locked bootloader but I believe it will still indicate at the bootloader that you 'relocked' it, so your provider can tell that it was tampered with and may decide that that's a good enough reason not to honor your warranty. Proceed at your own risk.
As far as the details, no it's not very difficult to root your phone. You need to be marginally competent at running some software on your PC and follow the tutorials available here. There's this tool which makes things very easy, and there's also nloooo's tutorial here if you want to do it more manually which is helpful in learning some of the basics of using adb commands and getting your PC to talk to your phone, etc.
If you follow the instructions in the tutorials you shouldn't brick your phone. You just need to be mindful of what you are doing and don't do silly things like pull the USB cable while it's sending files to your phone. Even then, there's usually ways to recover from those situations. It's hard to actually brick the phone.
Backup your phone, often!
Hope that goes someways towards answering your questions. Good luck!
Reason to root for me:
Adaway - to remove ads temporarily
Sixaxis - to play games with ps3 controller
BetterBatteryStats - to check what prevents deep sleep such as alarms etc
Titanium backup - to backup my stuff just incase something happening to my phone
That's it. If you don't need this I don't think you need to root at all.

@ dxarch
Why should I root? Ans: Please google. You will get ample number of example why you have to root your phone.
Is it worth it for some apps? Ans: Yes. Most of the apps which benefits need root access.
Is rooting safer than installing a custom rom? Ans: You can not install custom rom without having Root access.
Is it hard to do? Ans: Depends on your knowledge. If you follow the processes mentioned in this forum, should not be an issue.
Should I install a custom rom ? Ans: Again your choice. I will prefer to go for Custom ROMs.
Is there any way getting back your warranty? Ans: No, I do not think so.
Should I root it because I have the phone only a week? Ans: That does not matter. I rooted my phone once I came back with my phone from showroom.
Any good guides? Ans: It is available in the forum. Please search.
What to do if I brick my phone? Ans: First you should not face any issues following the guide here. If still bricked then your bad. I have not bricked till days, where I am having very less knowledge in android. Take always backup before doing something unknown.
Will I still have all apps? Ans: Rooting does not delete any apps. You will get the power to delete bloatware and install so many apps those need root.
What are the pro's and con's? Ans: Please refer answer 1.
Any more information I need please post. Ans: Please check this forum. Everything is there..
Hit the Thanks button! Ans: Sorry I can not becoz I am helping you so I should get thanks from you.
Best of luck..Gain some knowledge before going ahead with root that will give you more confidence.

Exactly, I rooted every phone I had except this one. I don't have money for a new one and I'm completely satisfied of the function and look (changed everything what I can without root) so it's only up to you if you want a new Rom or root based apps..

What!? I didn't know if i brick it i can't use it anymore. As far as I know you can use a recover.img or RUU... but I'm just a n00b

Depends on how you bricked it. And if you can flash a recovery.img or RUU, it's not a real brick.
But about the rooting:
I've rooted every device I owned + lots of other devices. It's surely worth it. ROMs make the device so much smoother, and when using atis112's kernel, you'll get the most out of your device. It also removes bloatware, and allows full theming. I don't see any problem with it, except the OTA's. But that's not that hard, you can flash the stock recovery/RUU, and you'll get them back.
In my experience, there's a really small chance of bricking your phone. It's a safe method.
new to rooting

I own Desire X.
May be i am very late in replying but i ll try to answer some of ur questions.
I am new to rooting scene so in case of any wrong information, please correct me.
I will share my experience.
I rooted the phone coz i wanted access to limit my startup items. In addition, rooted phone can give u access to ur device completely.
Tutorial made by nloooo is awesome, otherwise its better you follow the tutorial specifically made by the developer of the product.
TWRP recovery is cool and serves the purpose.
I tried Elegencia ROM and now i am using mySENSE-dx_RC3.0. I really hate all the bloatware in my phone which is te main reason for installing ROM.
Going back to custom ROM is easy (i think), for that u need to have a full backup of ur system in TWRP.
Going to ctock ROM is a bit difficult using RUU as stock ROM in RUU need compatible CID of your phone.
Both these ROMs i mentioned above are are awesome and u can choose any one depending on ur needs. Advantages of Elegencia are that you can choose which software to install through aroma installer while installing ROM. Its light, flawless and cool.
Why i chose mySENSE-dx_RC3.0 is that i really loved Full Sense as compared ti sense lite in stock as well as Elegencia ROM.

[Q] LG L9 P769 locked bootloader. Installed CWM

I just installed CWM for this phone and the bootloader is still locked. But does this mean i could install custom firmware? or do i just now have a way to back up my phone and recover?
Locked boot loader means that you cannot install custom roms on the phone. There are certain tweaks that can be installed through CWM, there are also a few modified (themed and tweaked) stock roms floating around in the general section of this forum.
I can honestly say that once you delete most of the bloat, apply a few tweaks...our phone runs just fine on stock-ish firmware.

Just stay on modded stock. ( check kuma82's ROM in dev section ) If you want to install custom roms then you HAVE to unlock your bootloader.

Thank you guys for the information. I am going to check out that rom it sounds pretty good and i honestly dont really need anything super fancy i just want to be able to take advantage of this sd card.
Really annoying that it wasn't implimented on the original firmware to be able to move apps to the sd card. It seems like a very long running theme with android that there are all sorts of issues moving apps to the sd card. Best way i was able to take advantage of my sd card was with my old lg p509 using the ungazed script.
Good luck.

[ROM]NOOB ROM [12/20/2013] Sprint Stock 4.4 DeOdexed, Zipaligned and Rooted

Hello world!
This is my first ROM ever, so please take it easy on me.
Things to note:
1. I am NOT REPONSIBLE for ANY damage this may cause to you, your device, or your self esteem.
2. Please, PLEASE, PLEASE backup your phone before flashing this.
3. DO NOT flash this over 4.2. This is only to reset your phone or to try out some cool features.
Now that the standard stuff is out of the way, I present to you all,
Noob ROM
I am a complete Noob at this, so I will be working on it little by little. Right now it is flashable, and is deodexed/zipaligned with root and busybox installed. Please let me know what you guys think.
Obviously, this is running the latest kitkat update and is only flashable via a custom recovery. Make sure your custom recovery supports 4.4!!
I have a full time job, so I will be doing this during nights and weekends. If you want any new features, let me know and I will do my best to add them.
If you would like to fund my research, you may donate to me here.
Thanks in advanced for any donations, although they are not required in any way. I will continue to work on this no matter what!
Reserving for future use.
Thanks, quick questions
Can flash over my current stock, and is this for unlocked or locked bootloaders?
I have the VZW Moto X but I'm glad someone is giving the Sprint version some love.

Yes, you can flash over stock but only IF you are running 4.4. DO NOT, under any circumstances, flash this over 4.2. It will fail. Also, it is recommended to wipe your /data partition to avoid any errors.
This is only for unlocked bootloader, as you need a custom recovery to flash it.

[Q] Can I roll back Software VS98511C to 11B? No Root?

If possible can someone point me in the right direction...? Ive read you can roll back but I can only find threads with explinations for rooted phones & my luck being the way it is got the G3 on the day the came out with 11C. Thanx in advance everyone & appreciate all the time put into this site

Note that these approaches use different flash tools, and you have to be careful to use the right drivers in your PC.
Once you return to 10b, you may want to root and turn off System Updates. There are some rumblings that lg may make it difficult in the future.

You only need root for exposed. 'Bump'ing the bootloader allows you to install a custom recovery so you can flash ROMs and kernels, make nandroid backups, etc.
