[Q] Recovery for cm10.1 backwards compatible with cm10? - Galaxy Tab 10.1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I would like to try 10.1 instead of the version I am on now (20121208-nightly-p4). It is recommended to upgrade to the newest recovery, but my question is, is it possible to use that recovery if I want to go back to cm10 or do I have to downgrade then?

After installing CWM v6.0.2.3 on my p4vzw, my tablet booted fine into CM10 before I did the flash to CM10.1.

Definitely load the CWM v6.0.2.3 first. Afterwords makes sure you have latest ROM manager. Backups move to a new location and you won't be able to find pre-10.1 backups easily without these updates.
Good luck.

I'm currently on 10.0 with the latest nightly. My ROM manager cwm is at the latest version 5.5.1.4 recovery 5.8.3.1. How do I flash the latest recovery 6.0.2.7 using mobile Odin. Do I need to to update to 10.1? I have no issues with 10.0 and my current recovery.

You need to update to the new recovery before going to 10.1. To use Mobile Odin just download the recovery image from Droidbasement. In Mobile Odin click on the Recovery button and browse to the recovery image you just downloaded. Select it, then scroll down and select the Flash button.
To answer your question, you don't "need" to upgrade, but it's the only way you will ever get Android 4.2 on your original Samsung 10.1 WiFi. Samsung apparently has no plans for further updates.
Good luck.

[Q] Update CWM on incorrect kernel

I am having a little bit of trouble trying to solve a problem with CWM. I rooted my phone earlier last year and decided to try some roms lately but I am now in a bad position as CWM is telling me I have a different kernel and I am unable to get the option to restore my previous rom backup. I keep hearing to use Odin which I previously used to root my phone, to update CWM in the kernel to the latest version. Normally when I update the kernel it is quite simple - just install from the zip on sd, but Odin is a complete mess to understand. I am probably approaching this incorrectly. What can I do to restore to my previous CWM backup?
Try using ROM Manager to flash CWM, this might solve your problem.

Thanks for the reply. Do I flash the CWM.zip (current version) as a rom in this app or do I use a different option?

ROM Manager - Flash ClockWorkMod Recovery - Samsung Galaxy S2.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA
That did not seem to work. Rom Manager stops working and after awhile it asks if I want to wait or stop the program.
Is there a way to get this to work through odin? I am unable to reset to the default firmware as some files are irretrievable now.

Do not use rom manager. Flash cf root kernel with odin and you'll have cwm recovery.

ClockWorkMod Recovery

I installed CWM Recovery on my G III to play with some roms. And now, I got back to stock firmware (restored the image using CWM), and it works fine. But I heard that JellyBean is coming as an OTA update, and CWM will prevent OTA update to install, is that correct? If yes, is there a way to uninstall CWM? I don't have a backup of my stock recovery.
Thanks
You have a LONG wait for jellybean to hit our devices....but for stock recovery check the toolkit out....I haven't used it myself but read the thread...

Another option would be to wait a week or so for someone to post a cwm flashable JB OTA update. Just letting you know you have options

Nandroid backup problem

use cf-root cwm recovery until touch is stable, backups are too important

Better switch back to 5.5.0.4 -v1.5 from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1684535. Install with Odin/Mobile Odin Pro.
Version 6 is not stable yet. You can only get rid of version 6 by flashing version 5.

It`s a .tar file, only pc Odin or Mobile Odin Pro from your phone. It is a paid app in Playstore. Next time before flashing a new recovery make a backup first so you can roll back if anything goes wrong.

noob help please

hi guys, ive recently been given a s2 and i want to know how to root it and install clockwork mod without a pc. i have looked through the tutoriols and it seems simple to root but then when wanting to flash a recovery it seems confusing as there are kernels and what not. i have searched but things seem to complicated compared to the one x. sorry if this is really stupid but could someone tell me how to root my s2 and install cwm and install a custom kernel in simple english please. thanks in advance.
also one cwm is installed can i install roms through there or is odin(this is also confusing) required?
oh and finally, once a ota arrives how do i unroot and revert back to stock recovery. sorry for the noob questions guys, thanks in adcance

Simple mate. Download this http://db.tt/MxD7F6xg and install through stock recovery (volume up+home+power).
This is a temp CWM recovery so you can flash this kernel: http://www.dorimanx.com/Android-ICS/ by selecting Install zip from internal or external sdcard. BTW, it's touch recovery.
Then you're all done:thumbup:
Yes you can flash custom roms through CWM recovery built in the kernel.
Yes also to revert back to stock rom/kernel for ota. For this, you can use mobile Odin pro. Works great.
EDIT: OH and the kernels are pre-rooted

You should not be mucking about with your phone until you have a pc handy(with odin installed properly).
I hardly ever use a pc,but you can get situations when you flash something and the phone dont boot properly, plus no access to recovery.
The only option is then using a pc/odin.

[Q] Can I upgrade i9300 4.1.2 rooted to Carbon rom 4.4.2 using just mobile Odin pro?

Mine is an i9300 rooted and running 4.1.2
I have downloaded the carbon rom 4.4,2 meant for i9300 and also the gapps to the phone' sd card,
Can I upgrade the phone via mobile Odin pro only? I don't have access to a PC or a mac.
Or is it better to go via CMWM?
Don't want to mess up my only phone
You can flash Philz through Mobile Odin and then flash the ROM through Philz.
Mobile Odin wants to wipe data and cache

Mobile Odin wants to wipe data and cache, plus wipe dalvik cache to install philz touch recovery.
Is that ok to do so? I made nandroid backup thru cwm recovery.
No need to flash through mobile odin...
There are flashable zips available for Phil's... you can just flash those through your current recovery..
And I would suggest change your modem to any modem after mg4...
Installing an aosp ROM would not affect anything related to modem but if you do flash any Samsung rom then that would be necessary...

Was able to update to philz recovery and did a new nandroid backup

Thanks for the suggestion. Flashed philz through CWM recovery.
Now should I use Mobile Odin pro to install 4.2.2 carbon or just through philz itself?
Seems Odin pro gives me ability to inject super user on install. Philz doesn't give me any such option.
What would you recommend?

Actually I think Philz does allow you to flash root .I remember seeing the option in advanced or philz settings I think. You can then go on to download SuperSU from market and it will work fine

Is the carbon rom pre rooted? Else I would have to depend on Odin to prerogative it for me.

99% of custom roms are rooted you only have to root your device if you are on stock rom and not planning on flashing custom roms but want to install root apps
Thank you all

Thank you for clarifying that. Will update tomorrow on how the upgrade went. Appreciate your help.
