Nah nah, that is one wrong guide. It is using Siyah Kernl 4.15. Please don't use it with XXLSJ.
For correct procedure follow http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2066404

I used something called xxlsj when i update to official jelly bean .What is this "Syiah kerne"? And i see on your guide "drraptor" is a lot of posts and links . What shoud i choice from there ?

do either of these
Download Philz Kernel for XXLSJ from here http://www.mediafire.com/?2d893461cjg2rbe. and follow these instructions
Boot into download mode. First shut down your device, then power on by simultaneously pressing the power button, home button and volume down key
start odin3 (download Link ) and configure it as in picture below
connect phone in download mode to PC via USB
press start to flash the tar.md5 package

For the root it doesn't matter and aftwards he can flash any newer release. Over this u are posting a beta which isn't good for a new one who are using stock and just need root.

how can you boot a XXLSJ jellybean rom with ICS kernel ? :silly: . I'm speaking on my personal experience, navin00's experience and what Philz said in his thread.
Philz's kernel isn't in beta.

Sorry

1st you are not using OFFICIAL JELLY BEAN that doesn't exist cos Samsung are slow at updating you are using a leak provided by izap (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1994313)
2nd siyha will not work on this ROM below version 6.0 if you flash this the phone will not boot you need to use siyha 6.0 beta 4 however I wouldn't recommend keeping this as there are still bugs. Try Phils kernel 3.73(http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1877270) or jeebo (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2062208)
3rd why use a completely stock ROM why not use others such as this (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1569686) which is stock with the crapware removed and lots of features from the s3 ripple lock multi window etc

Hannibal226 said:
It's a release under ICS but that not directly means it not working on JB.
If u read the changelog of 5.0.1 it also merged JB codes/things (I'm not a dev, but I used it on JB already)
And the 4.1.5 should work on JB, too, as I remind and I won't think the page would link to it if they hadn't test before.

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=35898155
Ended up in bootloop. So if you have working options available in Philz kernel (XXLSJ) , and Siyah v6 is specifically for JB 4.1 why bother with something which will end up in a boot loop

To stop the discussions here I will delete my posts except the first one which link to the guide.
@OP
So just use a newer kernel than the one which is named in the linked guide from my post before. (u find the Siyah kernel releases here: gokhanmoral.com)
Or just follow the guides from other users here...

Those images indicate that your device failed a model and product check before it allows the package to flash. Looks like it is checking for GT-I9100, GT-I9100T, or GT-I9100M. Check your model number under your battery. Is it for sure one of these models? Or something else?
model: GT-I9100
ssn: -I9100GSMH
I'm realy confused what the hell is wrong
you have the I9100G version as indicated by the ssn. I9100GSMH., to flash you need to go to the g subforum for firmware that will work with your phone.
You can not use international version firmware.

That's not true. SSN is not indicative of the model. MODEL is the model.
I have an I9100, (NOT a G) and my SSN is I9100GSMH. I think the G in the SSN is part of "GSM", indicating the cell tech maybe?

So it sounds like you don't have ADB. You probably need to download and install the Android SDK. (download that here)
Also sounds as if you should go over some of the basics: Galaxy SII Bible - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1473577
This may also help in the event all else fails: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1449771
ICS update via CWM a guess say its a wrong format file or it should be flashed via Odin .
But as nil details of the upgrade file are posted its a guess .

because i can flash google apps in CWM but no roms. Then that error comes what i posted
It is obvious when you can flash a kernel, but you can't flash a ROM, because it can't properly read the NAND, but can flash a kernel. But you ask, why the kernel? Because flashing a kernel is a bit deeper than flashing a ROM. When you flash a kernel, you're changing/putting new instructions to the hardware, and when flashing a ROM, the instructions that are drewn are different and more "simple", so when flashing, ODIN will say "FAIL" instead of "PASS", or suddenly stopping the flash out of nowhere.

You have given only very few information,
You flashed a CWM on a Rooted phone? or CWM with a rooted kernel?
your posted version of CWM has got normally issues reported..
try to flash Siyah kernel from ODIN, then you try the ROM from CWM

[Q] How to update to ICS?

Hello.
I have been a member since like 6 months. I purchased my Samsung Galaxy SII from Oman in the Middle East. I had rooted it a while back by flashing an insecure kernel. Now I can't seem to update to ICS, I tried flashing the original firmware back but still no luck with the update.
I would really like some help as to how to update to ICS now. And before you call me a noob I have researched how to do it every way possible so just wanted to get some feedback on the best way possible?
On all the ICS threads there is no ICS firmware for my PDA. So I just wanted to clarify if it's safe to flash a firmware with a different PDA?
If so which one is the best which will result in the least bugs (if those are avoidable that is )? Or should I skip this and just flash a JellyBean firmware? If so which one?
Im sorry for all the questions or if they seem very noobish but I have been searching all the threads and can't find a proper answer. If someone could help me it will be greatly appreciated .

My phone is a Samsung Galaxy SII ( I9100 )
PDA - I9100JPKJ2
PHONE - I9100XXKI4
CSC - I9100OJPKJ1
Thanks in advance.
And love the work you guys do here. Really awesome .

ICS update
Hey I checked that link but there is no ICS firmware for my PDA ( JPKJ2 ).
So what I basically wanted to clarify is that if it's safe or me to flash a firmware with a different PDA. Like the one you showed in the second link? And the jellybean flashing works fine? The firmware is stable?
Thanks in advance.

Why don't you flash ICS 4.0.3 for United Arab Emirates?
Here's the link.
It'll not be advisable to flash the leaked JellyBean, as it isn't very stable. Sometimes the home Launcher force-closes in JB and the lockscreen hangs. So use ICS for now. And it doesn't matter which PDA version you have on your phone... those versions keep changing as new ROMs are out. But don't forget to backup your data before flashing!
Cheers!:good:
Thanks a lot! Worked flawlessly .
Now to root it which method would be the best and easiest to follow? Or will any of them be fine?
Thanks .

1) Download View attachment CWM-SuperSU-v0.96.zip & View attachment recovery-clockwork-touch-5.8.1.5-galaxys2.zip.
2) Transfer them to your phone's external memory card.
3) Go into stock android recovery by holding "vol up + home + power" buttons. You will see android system recovery 3e.
4) Use volume down button and choose option -"apply update from external storage". After that choose recovery-clockwork-touch-5.8.1.5-galaxys2.zip . It will flash and automatically go into Clockworkmod recovery.
5) In CWM recovery, choose install zip (internal or external sdcard - try and see in which one you find it) and then flash CWM-SuperSU-v0.96.zip .
6) After that reboot your phone and you will have root!
PS: You can press the "Thanks" button below my posts if I helped you!

If you're on ICS, flash Siyah in .tar format directly through odin. Although there are more methods to root i find this every easy. Best of luck :good:
BTW, i am too from Oman, Muscat

Usually when there is a zip file its for flashing via recovery mode, not unpacking it and flashing with odin... stupidity is what bricks phones

Oh ok. Cool I'll try one of these. I'm assuming the differences between them all are minor ones right?
Also one last question .
If I wanted to get Jellybean on my phone, do I have to first flash the Jellybean firmware on it or can I just flash one of the custom ROM's online?
Or do the custom ROM's need stock JB to be flashed on the phone first?
Thanks for all the help guys.

[Q] Some help on getting to 4.1.2 from 4.0.4 safely!

Hello, I've done some research, I dodged a bullet after finding out about the emmc brick bug. Basically I want to update my phone from 4.0.4 to JB 4.1.2 safely without bricking it.
My phone is:
Samsung Galaxy GT-I9100
4.0.4
Baseband: XXLQ6
Kernel: 3.0.15 -I9100XWLPT -CL941023 [email protected] #3
Build: IMM76D.XWLPT
My phone has an insane chip, I think the latest Siyah custom kernel is the best option as it is also rooted, I'm hoping I can install this then safely install the 4.1.2 JB, but I want to be certain I have the right idea!
I'm guessing:
- Download ICS compatible Siyah kernel here: http://www.gokhanmoral.com/?p=1536 and extract Tar.md5 file
- Boot phone into stock download mode and plug into pc with Odin 3v1.8
- Have reset f.time checked along with PDA, and the Tar.md5 inserted in that
- I have the USB drivers so when phones recognized press start, let it finish then reboot
- Then I can wipe data and factory reset safely? and proceed with installing stock 4.1.2 rom/kernel?
Any advice or corrections will be much appreciated!

Is that safe? I read this somewhere
"If you have an affected kernel:
Flash a known good kernel using Odin/Heimdall immediately. Do NOT use Mobile Odin, CWM, or any on-device method to flash."
Once I flash the phone with the Siyah kernel and reboot, can I then do factory reset and flash a new firmware without having to worry about bricking it?

Yes.
And iv never used Odin or mobile Odin. Was on 4.0.4 myself. Flash kernel.. will be OK. Just no wipe as you no. Mobile Odin is a quick way to get what you want.

Ok....there are 2 ways you can go about this. ....the first which you've already mentioned is to use odin...but instead of flashing a kernel then flashing the firmware, you can flash the firmware directly.....
Just visit sammobile or samsung updates.com and search for either the branded or unbranded firmware for your region or country.....
The other way (and imo the safer way) is to leave odin alone (based on the number of recent threads where people are having issues with odin) and flash a PhilZ kernel to root....
See this thread.....
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1877270
and look for the kernel that matches your build number..
Then as andrewwright said, use mobile odin to flash your previously located JB firmware.
If you want to have an unrooted firmware on your phone at the end, visit the mobile odin thread on this forum and download the lite version in post 1 and the I9100 flashkernel v3 from post 7 or 9 in the same thread and use them.....job done.....
If you want to root your new firmware, get the pro (paid) version from the playstore.......

Mobile odin installs it's own kernel which is not affected by the brickbug, so it's totally safe.....
The app and kernel have been developed by Chainfire who I believe played a very big part in researching brickbug and finding ways to circumvent it....he knows what he's doing.....

You should make sure your phone is recognized by odin before you flash anything.
What is not being said here is that flashing with recovery/cwm/mobile odin can result in phone not booting.
Then where are you......
Yes, you (OP) have all the steps right. It's nice to see someone who has done some reading for once, rather than posting 'plz help, I want to root my phone', so well done.
Taking the steps you have listed will work, they're the exact steps I used to root, flash & upgrade. Just be mindful as theunderling stated that your phone must be recognised by Odin before flashing (ie don't start the process hoping it will be recognised during the flash if it's not at the start)
The posts below your opening query are trying to help you with methods which are potentially easier/safer. It's up to you which method you use.

No disrespect intended.....I have used mobile odin on 5 occasions....without issue
I've tried to use PC Odin on at least 10 occasions with 1 instance of success. ....
Also, how many threads are on here that contain the dreaded 'nand write failure' because of odin.....too many to count.......
I suppose it's fair to say that *any* flash method carries an element of risk......
But judging by the recent threads, PC Odin seems to carry the highest risk.......

Just some quick clarification.. Are you saying your phone is already rooted? Or that siyah will also root your phone?
If you're saying that siyah will root your phone in the process and you are not currently rooted, mobile odin is out of the question. It requires a phone that is already rooted. If you're already rooted, then you can use it. I recently mobile odin to used flash stock JB (LSH) and it was the easiest flash I've done so far

True....I'm not denying it has it's uses....but I still say that
A) it causes more problems (whether it's used correctly or not) than it fixes
B) if more people were to research and use the alternatives, it wouldn't have to be used so much to fix the problems....
Now a comment for the conspiracy theorists...lol...
Odin (like kies) designed by Samsung.....is it REALLY in their 'best financial interests' to provide a bulletproof piece of software that lengthens the useable life of their smartphones?.......

Lets just say that if we were to flash 20 x items each on our phones,youd be reaching for odin long before Id be reaching for mobile odin.
Im looking at mobile odin being one out of four flashing methods,and Ive never seen it fixing a bootloop lol.
Source: maradonas hand of god at port stanley......
Mobile Odin is not safer. That's absolute garbage. Odin only has the reputation it has because you only hear about the cases where idiots (and 99.999999999% of the time it is idiots who get it wrong) 'get it wrong'. People don't post when an Odin flash goes smoothly which is the overwhelming majority of the time. And it's not like 'getting it right' is somehow difficult or requires a particularly high level of competence. Anyone with an IQ above 25 can use it successfully every single time.
Both flashing methods carry the exact same level of risk which increases exponentially depending on how careless you are.
Edit - And as TheUnderling has said good luck fixing a bootloop & a whole host of other problems with Mobile Odin. Mobile Odin is an analog of CWM as far as I'm concerned I.E only works when the phone 'works'.
Well.....I *obviously* have an IQ of less than 25 then......

[Q] Rooting my Galaxy S II GT-I9100 2.3.5 KI3

Hello,
After Searching over 2 days, I have not found 100% what I am looking for, I can't seem to locate the proper Kernel/s for my phone specifics. I have poured over many rooting/unrooting guides, I have tried all the (no computer root) programs such a Z4, Ginger Break, Sparky Root, Exynos Abuse, Framaroot... etc the list goes on.
The reason I was trying to do it without computer use is that my USB connection on my phone is very sketchy and drops in and out, but I have made the decision that I will try to root it with the computer anyway and take the risk of bricking it from an uncomplete root!
I have rooted this phone before using the zergrush method, and unrooted it successfully.... I now have the Factory Android Version 2.3.5 Running Gingerbread.XXKI3.
~~~INFO~~~
Model Number: GT-I9100
Android Version: 2.3.5
Baseband Verision: I9100XXKI3
Kernel Version: 2.6.35.7-I9100XXKI3-CL577579
[email protected] #2
Build Number: GINGERBREAD.XXKI3
Can someone please reply with the sticky's to all the programs and proper kernel/s I need to do this successfully through the computer.
Or if you know of a guide which is specific for my phone and its details, please provide the link to is as I could not find it!
I am very apprehensive about installing the wrong kernel as I know it can brick my phone, and I can't seem to find the right one!
Please help me fellow Geeks!
Thank you very much!
Whatever is the most simple, I think JB Lite is recommended as a good ROM. Will your simple route work with JB lite? if not thats ok, regular JB is ok... Or ICS, whatever u think is less resource hogging, and will have longer battery life, and more stable... THanks!
U can flash any custom ROM either
Hello Again,
I can't seem to find anywhere here in the noob section, or in the Q & A, as I searched several different variations of the same question, But how do I find my threads, that I wrote? I know when someone replies is shows 1 new reply in your inbox, but after you view it, it gets removed from your inbox and I can't find it!!!
The only way I seem to be able to keep track of my thread is by subscribing to my own thread? that doesn't make sense to me, there should be somewhere I can go see all of the threads I wrote without subscribing? Is there such a place?
Thank you!
Bananna Barry.
