Now that I've made a new thread for rooting the X10i-model, anyone is free & welcome to add thorough instructions here on how to do so.
I'm a little tired of poorly written guides in the other thread that gives you nothing but confusion.
Please don't close this thread as I believe other people get confused TO about how to root an X10i.
Like THIS for instance:
1. Download the rar-file (link here).
2. Unzip/pack it.
3. Enable Debugging in Settings ->..............
4. Shutdown your SonyEricsson X10i.
5. Start StepX.bat
6. ...................................
7. ....................................
8. Done! Your phone is now rooted with version XXXXXXX
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=717949
i don't see any link..
Why are you differing between x10i and x10a? Its the same. There is a much simpler way to root any FW.
1) Download and install flashtool
2) Plug in phone and press root
3) Done, reboot and there you go

There is already another thread with the same topic, please post there since this avoids cluttering the forum. On that note, thread closed.
just rooted my xperia s last night, was able to unlocked it then i download cm9 and did the fastboot boot.img thing now as i open my phone all i get is the free xperia logo what should i do?
Rooting and flashing always come with user responsibility... (that's why I tend not to do this on new phones with valid warranty)
Try using the search function in the forum first. Or even try to do some basic google search for troubleshooting beforehand.
And BTW we actually have a Q&A section for question and answer.

You need to include way more information. Please refer to the thread in my sig for the info you need to include to get the best answers.
Also you need to make sure that Kies is not running in the background. And make sure you have the drivers installed
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda premium
Also make sure to try out different usb ports. It was one of my problem once where my phone wasn't detected in a certain usb port eventhough I flashed through it once.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using xda premium
Also you should try installing/re installing the drivers for your phone

Next Device: Upcoming Nexus
Hi all,
I've tried every method in xda forum to root my xperia P lt22i without success.
It mounts ICS Build Number 6.1.1.B.1.54, locked bootloader, kernel 3.0.8+, usb debugging mode on, third part software allowed, back up and restore already installed.
When i try to flash the .559 kernel, flashtool returns me an error during flash, but I don't understand bacause i've installed all the drivers included in the package. When I click the root button it runs good till the end, but after the rebooting no sign of superuser app.
When I try to run the runme.bat of Binary's app (every version of it), it runs smoothly to the end and it returns to me that the phone has been rooted, but there's no trace of the superuser app after the rebooting.
Is it probable that I could have an unrootable phone?
Thanks in advance for your advices and answers,
Stevuna.

Because I don't have permission to wirte there, I have to make 10 posts.
Chances of getting a helpful reply here are low, maybe first make ten posts and then post there. Remember not to spam. Btw I think you can post on Q/A section without 10 posts (I can't remember)

thanks for the advice man!
I hope that someone will help me..because this phone is awesome!
I'm sick of this junk phone!!!
It's locked and I have no idea who told those guys from the development section that it can be rooted even if bootloader is locked, couse i'll be damn if it worked for me.
I tryed every option shown and none worked.
Hell it dosen't even show me the restore option, every time I have to manualy go to settings and hit restore.
And in <<only one>> option I get the RootMe restore option, the one for those with open bootloader...
And I also get a lot of error in the command promt, and that shouldn't happen.
Dose anyone have any suggestions or anything? Couse I can't talk with those guys due to this new user thing... X(
I can't use it, can't sell it, I swear that for 200E that it cost me, i'll throw it away

The "soft" mod is no longer an option for many other devices not only smartphones. The method you guys have here is usless for phones that have the bootloader phisicaly locked by sony!!!
I'm looking for a way to bypass the sony lock, the hard way...
Where are those old fonefreekz when you need them...
And is very unpolite to call someone a noob only "cus u" think he knows no s***. I was cracking phones long before Android was publicaly released...

I found this after 2 minutes searching xda...
The guide is for Xperia U 6.1.1.B.1.10 , i don't know what firmware do you have.. so if its any newer than 6.1.1.B.1.10 than you should just flash ONLY the kernel for 6.1.1.B.1.10 , then follow this guide till the end, then after root is achieved.. flash back the original kernel for your version of firmware.
I always root this way, and i never had any problems , just before rooting set the display of your phone to NOT turn off for at least 5 minutes, not 30 seconds as it is at default.
I have some kernels if you need them
Xperia U 6.1.1.B.1.10
Xperia U 6.1.1.B.1.54
Xperia U 6.1.1.B.1.100
I have the 6.1.1.B.1.54 and my god haven't I tryed this option too. It was the very first method I found on xda back in 2012 and it failed. I will try it again however but I expect the same result as the first time...

No. I'm useing Vista and 8, and they both should be working... I'm not getting any errors due to driver conflicts or anything so it's not an OS problem...
And no, my AV dose not see flashtool as a worm...

Your phone isn't different from everybody else, but obviously you are.
Be humble and review all the steps, options and possibilities.

all u need is a little patience. first flash stock 6.1.1.b.1.10.ftf that u can download from
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2391151
in the android 4.0 section flash it using flashtool and repeat the same methods u tried earlier and report it.
It doesn't matter dump ur phone but being this way u'll never get to learn stuff............
Remember to calm down first, so your head will be clear. I was also exasperated when I was unable to root my phone with .54 kernel. I had a lot of difficulties because I am on ubuntu 13.10 and I had to first properly install the packages required by flashtool. After a gruelling 3 days of failures I decided to step back a while so I could calm down and relax. Finally I got my phone rooted after I redownloaded a .10 kernel.

When u hurry hurry hurry u will overlook a ton of things and miss a lot of essential steps even though you say "i have tried all methods and did them correct" a human is a human and obviously can make mistakes without even knowing them. and then u fail and get hatred but thats the part where u need to cool down. In this thread i have seen a lot of Correct answers for you i even used them and managed to root my Xperia U st25i with 1.54 firmware aswell the kernel is essential in it to so take some time and relax read the threads properly and even if something fails to download Search on XDA or google and u will have so much correct answers that u will be amazed of
if u are on .54 fw then u need to download .10 kernel and flash it via flashtool and then use bin4ry's method (restoring the RootMe file) and then reflash the .54 kernel
u will get the kernel in the op of the thread linked below
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2028139
and if u seriously want to get into rooting and tweaking your phone's system then the first thing you need is a calm mind or else you will end up bricking your device
