So I recently installed the stock Jelly bean update that was pulled from OTA, and then I tried to go back to ICS. I used the droid razr utility (1.82), and everything worked except flashing boot.img. It said something like infopreflash validation failure. Could anybody help me with this problem? Thanks.
There is no going back from JB to ICS.

You need to wait til Motorola releases the fastboot images
But if there was an unlocked bootloader, then I could flash a boot image, am I right?

Since it hasn't come out yet, no one knows if ota 2.34 we flashed will accept official updates properly. But if that's the case devs will definitely figure out ways to extract the files needed to install them either through fastboot or cwm most likely. You'll want to be unlocked and rooted.

looks like i'm out of luck with the unlocking and rooting since it requires me to RSD flash to a different rom prior to updateing to 2.34 when they are saying it causes bricks. guess i'll wait for the official att and see if we can do the same update setup over the beta..love it though..just hate the fact my signal keeps going white then blue...any way thanks
Just a question will I need to be unrooted to receive and or download/ install the ICS upgrade when it is made available?
Sent from my rooted HTC_Amaze_4G using Tapatalk
From what I recall, you need to relock the bootloader to install OTA updates... So, I would assume you would need at least to relock the bootloader if they do not give us a zip to upgrade to ICS... And even then, to update from zip, you have to relock the bootloader, it will also delete your superuser on the rom, so you will lose root. It will probably also overwrite your recovery at the same time, so in the end, it's best to relock the bootloader before you upgrade to OTA to prevent it from bricking your phone.
With the last update we did not have to relock our bootloader however we did need the stock recovery. We've only had one OTA update since we've obtained root so it's difficult to say what a totally new build will require.
In most cases with various different phones, you can download the OTA to the phone but it will not install if the /system partition has been modified and you have a custom recovery installed. In order to properly update with an OTA, the ROM would need to be returned to stock and you would need to flash the stock recovery back to the phone as the OTA does checks against the system to ensure it's okay to flash. You do not have to be relocked in order to install it, however.
The best idea would be to wait until the OTA has been modified to ignore /system modifications and can be flashed using CWM, but of course that takes a little time until it is available.
I found the Stock Roms forum but will that relock my boot loader as well. I'm thinking it won't but doesn't hurt to ask.

No, the only ways to relock the bootloader is to run the Relocker script in the dev forum, or manually type "fastboot oem lock" in fastboot. Flashing ROMs will not relock the phone for you.
However, it is worth noting that you cannot flash the official stock ROMs without having the phone relocked first.

Not true. we did flash the stock roms the last time ota update came out and we didnt relock the bootloader. it only required to have stock recovery because you lose root once you flash the stock rom.

You must relock the bootloader to flash the RUU file.
i think i will wait until one of the developers or x makes a ota rooted build, usually when all the major ota comes somebody makes a rooted flash leak about it,

I can assure you that you did not. What I'm talking about is the RUU stock ROM file. But the point is moot because you're wrong.

right. need to be re-locked and stock non rooted.
I do not understand why you would want to unroot and unlock to get the OTA "when released". In about a day after it is released I am sure a Dev will have a flash-able version posted.
Maybe but since we don't have s-off don't we have to relock to flash the new firmware and radios? Hopefully we have s-off before official update comes.

I didn't think it mattered if you were rooted or not. I thought the things required to get an OTA update from Verizon were:
1. LOCKED or RELOCKED
2. Stock Recovery
3. Close to Stock ROM
Somebody please correct me if I am wrong...

Wierd, I read a few posts in another topic that said you had to be locked or relocked in order for the new radio to flash...
What about me?
Well my bootloader screen at the top says ***tampered with*** and then under it says ***re-locked*** and rom is a "clean rom" (ICS based). I purchased (expecting a stock device) and it turned out to be rooted/flashed. What I'm wondering is when Verizon HTC releases the "official" ICS update, will it come to my phone? If so, this would be the quickest fix for me to get stock again. I'm not concerned with "bloatware" etc, I just want things Verizon/HTC stock. I don't download enough apps to be concerned about bloatware and internal space etc. So from what I'm reading here, being "re-locked" and having a flashed rom that's close to being stock should allow me to still get the update, am I correct?
In short, what I mean is, will the update come to my phone like it has done previous android devices (that weren't flashed)? Or will I have to flash another OTA based cooked rom AFTER the official one comes out and someone "cooks" it?
You will not get the OTA if you are rooted, that's for sure. If it's the stock ROM, you'll get the option to update, but it'll fail during the installation. I've seen it happen on a few HTC devices and even my rooted Xyboard tablet lol. But, just to be safe if you DO want the OTA, install the stock ROM (If you're on an ICS ROM, you're going to have a tough time getting back to stock. It's bricked a lot of people's phones. You have to restore the firmware yourself, I think.) and relock your bootloader. Don't be worried if it says **Security Warning** this simply means that your bootloader has been unlocked at one point in time.
Just make sure your phone is on a stock, non-rooted ROM with your phone locked to make sure you have no issues. Better safe than sorry.
lol?

relock/unlock
You do not need s-off to relock. I unlocked and installed scotts cleanrom. I then a month later relocked installed the leaked OTA ICS update so i could have the new radios. Then unlocked again and installed the cleanrom DE senseless yesterday and i am loving it btw! I get decent battery too (13+ hours with moderate use)!
I'm needing to get a replacement Razr Maxx. However I just applied the leaked .211 ICS "OTA" update file. I know I can't use the Razr Utility to restore to GB. Does anyone know when the Fastboot file will be released for ICS for the RAZR? I don't know how to revert my phone to total stock until it's released.
Anyone? Got RAZR issues and need to revert to stock but it has to be 6.16.211 ICS.

Would this work if I'm on the Razr with OTA ICS update applied? I'm looking for a way back to GB, if it's even possible.
I recently got a Razr, so I'm not sure how fastboot files were. I came from a Droid X, and have lots of experience with CWM and flashing roms that way.
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance!

No, it is not possible to flash back to GB once on the ICS OTA. I'm not exactly sure why you would want too... ICS is a better and more stable form of Android.
Hey,
Finally Optus rolled out some kind of Jelly Bean update for the Desire X. Yay? They have released Software Update 2.23.980.3 with Android 4.1.1 and Sense 4+. Is this the good bug free Jelly Bean update or the buggy horrible Jelly Bean? If this is the horrible update, then could you possibly tell me the update id for the good update so I can chase up optus.
Also is there any way to restore to ICS with a rom (My phone is locked to Optus AU) as my CWM Backup says MD5 sum mismatch when I try to do a backup.
I have to relock my bootloader and update then unlock it again right?
Thanks,
Joe

I have the 2.22.720.6 version update and as far as I have used, There isn't any bugs. Your update might be better (Or worse) cant say without testing.
To return to ICS after JB update, Follow this guide : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2213663
If you are having the stock recovery, rom and kernel and using the OTA Software update from Phone Settings then no need to unlock/relock bootloader.

So if I went ahead, flashed stock recovery and updated, even with the flashed 4.2 GApps, what would happened.
P.S. If of any use, after I flashed the zip (6 Months Ago) and found I could not go back I panicked and relocked the boot loader and obviously the G Apps were still there, but the phone was still functional. When I realised what I had done was unreversable and unlocked the boot loader again.
