I am not sure the cwm will work. You can try it. Both phones are very similar and recovery is overwritten on reboot, so no permanent change to phone. Let me know on corresponding thread if it works

The temporary CWM recovery should be fine.
Don't try to use any kernels with CWM recovery built in that are meant for the I9100 on an I9100G though. It won't work, and you'll likely have a boot loop, or get stuck on the boot screen.

Yeah as long as its a zip file. Tar will be flashed through Odin. Img through adb. Backups don't translate well between some recoveries though, just a heads up.

You have already asked this question in the sudden death thread and got an in depth answer.
Here, I've copied and pasted it again for you

Reply:
CWM is a recovery. PhilZ is a recovery that's based on CWM. So it's capable of pretty much everything CWM is, and more. Hence your backups should be restored without any trouble, as long as the CWM version PhilZ is based on can do it. You have one /recovery partition. You either install CWM or PhilZ or TWRP or whatevertheeff else (this is in response to "Do I still need CWM?").
PS: Please clean up your posts, you're almost polluting the thread!
Why are you asking it again? And not only that but making a new thread for it!
Surely the best place to ask is actually in the PhilZ recovery thread.........once.

I've tried using Odin to install CVM 6.0.4 in order to overwrite the old one but it didn't work well

There are zip files for newer recoveries.. My personal favorite is Phil's touch... Just download the file and flash it through your current recovery... And then reboot recovery...

Does that mean that i need to be rooted ?? because i'm not and i'm not intending to do it now
no need for root. download new recovery as an zip (Philz is an good choice, find his tread here on xda) and reboot into recovery. Flash new recovery zip just like any other zip. Reboot and voila... all done
