How much data do you use a month? - Sprint HTC EVO 4G LTE

My area has had LTE for I'd say about 3 weeks now and since then I haven't used my WiFi because the LTE speeds are equal to or greater than my WiFi speeds. I just checked and I have used 11gb of 4G data this since 12/8. So my question is that a lot of data or do you all go a lot higher than that without Sprint crying? I find it funny because a guy I work with has Verizon with a 2gb cap and pays at least $30/month more. I can finally say I love Sprint and the service.

I'm around 8 GB on 3g. Lots of Pandora. I don't think sprint will notice.

I listen to Spotify and I heart radio 6 days a week for 9 hours a day. I don't have WiFi access at work. I use 15-20 GB a month. I know some will say that is abuse but I've never heard anything. Its what I have a phone for...to use data. Its why I have stayed with Sprint. Before I got the LTEvo I shopped around...VZO laughed and said stay put when I told them how much data I used.

A lot more than tmobile (who has a 2gb cap before they throttle you).
Before july 7th the unlimited data plan for $30 will have no cap which is a big plus for people who live in a 4g area. Starting on the 7th new customers will have to pick data packages what start with 2gb a month for $20 or $30. New plans suck.

Currently with T-Mobile, they don't throttle you until you reach 5 gb. Some plans are different but being with T-Mobile for several years and NEVER been throttled, my plan is 5 gb. I am also going to switch to Verizon to take advantage of their data plan before they change.

new t-mobile unlimited plans are 2gb for the special price, all others are still 5gb and they will throttle you (found out the first month).

Verizon's official position is that they may throttle those that are in the top 5% of data users, esp during peak data usage times. Only been with them a couple of weeks so not sure how hard ass they are. Haven't seen anyone complain.
I've only used about 4gb so far in 2 weeks.
I've been using about 10-15 gigs a month for the last 3 years and have never seen any cap,I'm sure they will start it when the new pricing plans start but I plan to keep my service the way it is.
Posted from my Nokia V560
I have also been told by Verizon employees that plans in place before 7/7/11 will be grandfathered. If you don't have a VZW data plan yet but have been considering it, pull the trigger before the 7th.
I have not been able to confirm that the unlimited cap on grandfathered plans will be "for life" but this has been the general consensus from what I've heard.
so there is no data throttling on verizon as of now ! cause i might just use about 10 -15 gb of 4g in a month.
verizon throttles but that was 3G... not sure if that applies to 4G... yet.
6.6gb in third week and haven't been throttled. unlike the tmobile where i got throttled to 56k speeds.
I have never heard this 5% thing before. I am on a 3g only area and can say my data is getting throttled pretty rough. Been days since I got solid speeds and my girlfriends dinc, my old phone, is getting way better speeds. I am currently over 4.5 gb this month and she is under 2.5

Good god what do you people do to use that much data? If I TRY to use a lot, I may use 4gb in a MONTH! I just don't find out practical to watch full movies on my phone... Sure a youtube video every now and then, but not a WHOLE movie. Talk about a battery killer...

Recently, in order to save battery whenever im home which is most of the time i switch off the 3G network and go on wifi. Since I dont have 4G coverage near my home yet its much better than running of 3G. not only has it been lowering my data usage which is small to begin with but been making my battery last forever. even on my extended battery.
I have a boring job and no super vision. plus I tether a lot...
Sent from my ADR6400L using XDA App
Well data flies when you tether,a movie on the phone might only be 300mb but the same flick on a pc it 2gb,anyway since I have been a vzw slave I have bounced as much a 20gb but average 10-15gb,i drive a truck and this is my internet,as far as speeds go some 3g markets are slow some are fast but I have never seen it throttled,as far as 4g goes fastest I have seen is phoenix, slowest was oklahoma city, los angeles is consistant all over the valley.
Posted from my Nokia V560
I just switched to verizon yesterday after learning this so that I would be grandfathered in. I spoke to 2 different store reps and 1 online rep and they all confirmed that data usage is 100% unthrottled and uncapped if you sign up before the 7th. Now I imagine there is some fine print which says if you use 50GB in a month they can throttle you if they wish, but obviously this is well above and beyond anyone's usage pattern.
On tmobile I was routinely hitting the 2GB cap without doing much at all. I stream a lot of music while I drive, and email a lot of 5MP pictures to myself to watch on my computer so I dont have to worry about a USB cable. I also surf on my lunch break and in the evenings on the couch. I can use about 1GB a week doing this.
I think im getting throttled. my 3g used t be much faster.

Go download speedtest and tell us what you get. Make sure you are doing this in a known good area.
I used over 70GB the first month this was out and never got throttled and still don't(Didn't have internet for that month so my phone became the internet). So its a good bet its quite high and will stay there for the unlimited people. >1MB/sec upload speeds <3 for torrents

new Thunderbolt throttled?

I got my phone a few weeks ago before the data cap went into affect. I've been syncing up my music from amazon mp3 (about 20 gigs). All of a sudden I can't connect to 4g. I looked at my data usage and its about 16 gigs. I'm not planning on hammering at the 4g like this once i have my music on the SD card...but wtf?
Is this throttling or just a phone/radio issue? I'm rooted on cm7. I dont have any network connection - just goes to 4g but stays gray then disappears then does it again.
You should probably just call customer support and ask them if there are any problems with your account and what you're doing.
I duno, at 16gigs it could be throttling. I agree with RunNgun42 and just call to verify.
it actually looks like 4g is down in NYC. Two of my coworkers have the thunderbolts (1 on cm7 MR1 (through my guidance) and the other stock) and both have 4g issues as well.
Doubt it... I'm at 25 gigs and still haven't been throttled
Sent from my ADR6400L using XDA App
I don't know. If you just got the Bolt and are already over 16gbs in a couple of days and you aren't paying for tethering, they might have dinged you.
T-mobile did that to me the first month, got throttled about 10 days in. The rest of that month was painful.
They won't remove your data if you're being throttled.. They'll just reduce the throughput at which it moves through your phone.. Sounds like just a radio issue.. Or as another poster mentioned, a data outage.

How much data have you used?

I got my rezound around 2 1/2 weeks ago and as of this posting I have used 7.022 gb (I'm 15 days into the 31 days of the billing cycle). This is the highest I've ever used so I was just wondering..what is amount of data everyone uses on a normal basis and what the Max amount of data you ever used? Does having a 4g phone significantly increase data usage? I haven't done anything special that I didn't do with my old 3g phone..
average for me is about 50GB/month. most i've ever used was like 110GB(tethered & downloaded/installed all my steam games on my new laptop).
i do a lot of streaming & tethering.
if you're unlimited, don't worry. they only care if 3g users are using too much data.
I use about 7 gigs a month on rare occasions.. depends how much netflix i watch.. i usually use about 2-4 gigs a month on average.
cheers

i've never been throttled and know someone who always goes over 100gb and never gets throttled either. had heard from a verizon employee that they only care about people on 3g using too much data. apparently there's plenty of 4g to go around.
I've used 5gb in the past 4 days.. Average 25-50ish. I also load obscene amounts of webpages lol
22G last month and am at 15G this month. Use easy teather for my laptop alot streaming Netflix

60 gb per month. when i was in virginia using 3g , i was throttled even using thunderbolt. now in chicago with average 60, never had a connection on 4g less than 7 down and 4 up. usually my speed runs 15 down and 10 up on rezound.

until everyone is on a lte device (verizon has stated they are not making anymore 3g smartphones, which leads everyone to believe the next iphone will have lte), and then I would guess throttling will come into play.
Personally I use on average about 7-8gb a month. But I don't tether. I prefer a wired connection for my home internet, much more stable speeds and reliability.

Thanks for the input..I'm glad to see I'm not the one using so much data. For a while I thought that myverizon data counter was rigged.

Simple Mobile on i717 Note Gnote simplemobile carrier

I want to see who else is using SIMPLE MOBILE on this beast of a phone. Then we simplemobiletons can talk about any specific issues or at least know who each other are.
I dont think i have any issues at all that arent the exact same as T-Mobile except one. That i have to change APN to Simple US and simple and insert smpl. into that mms field and save.
actually one question. and this is not gnote specific but applies to gnote.
I have never gotten over say 3-4 mbs down using Data connection. i pay $60 a month for 4G instead of $40 a month for unlimited 3G
normally when i go outside during work in downtown chicago, i get less than 1 sometimes 2gbs.
has anyone else thought maybe that Simple Mobile 4G sucks and is barely better than their 3G if at all better?
i have gnote on simple mobile.. i have the 3g 40 dollar plan. and data barely works at all. do i need the 60 dollar plan? or switch to straight talk?

FWIW, I have ATT (they don't make a distinction between 3g/4g LTE usage plans, I don't think), and the last time I was in Chi which was about a month ago, I was happy to be able to try out the Note on actual LTE.
However, I was quickly disappointed to find out that the hotel's WiFi was considerably faster than LTE and less battery drain (the latter's to be expected, but still...).
The moral of the story is that Chicago might not be the strongest of LTE markets??
Just a thought/observation.

Y'all should just switch to Tmobile's Monthly 4G $30 plan. That's if you don't need that much minutes. Cos you only get 100mins but unlimited txt and data (5gb @ 4G).
Hello mates, I'm using also Simple Mobile here in Puerto Rico, I'd got my G Note 2 weeks ago, average speeds 1.5 to 2.5 mbps, 2 times only over 7mbps, for me, I can live with that download speed, the real problem is with the upload, damn it's really slow, 50kbps average...
FYI, currently installed Saurom 7.1 with Blaze Modem...
im using blaze modem on ics on simple mobile. i only get .11 on speed test..

Hmm.. I've flashed every ICS modem and none of them work. I wonder if it would be worth it to switch to a GB rom :/
good 4g
i can't complain about my data speeds on simple mobile, I'm using the blackstar vii rom and the latest blaze that they got from the tmobile note and i get a got 3-7 mb per second is not bad. I also have the tin foil trick on the antenna, it really works.
Give it a try

Love the Note
I can't complain either. On simple mobiles 3G plan. PadawanV4 ROM with the latest Blaze Radio and I did the foil trick and getting 5MB with only 3 bars. Haven't tested full signal yet. I've been with simple mobile since they kicked off and went through tons of phones, this is by far the best I've gotten.
I have the i717 I had it on an old black star rom on it and it worked fine but when I updated to black star X I cant I get it to connect to the simple mobile servers I can't even make a phone call can anyone post links to the files they were using to get it to work for instance the ROM and the radio the exact radio there's like 13 different ICS blaze modems out there

thinking about switching from Sprint

I've been with Sprint for 13 years and am thinking heavily about moving to Verizon and the S4 mainly for better coverage and data speed. Who has come from Sprint and what phone features do you loose with Verizon? I have heard that Verizon doesn't have visual voice mail or google maps navigation. Have you switched and are you glad?
Haha with sprint for 13 years? Life must suck for you.

Not really, I just want better rural area coverage and faster data speeds. It's been hard to give up unlimited data @ 99/month but paying for 4G that isn't in my area has been pissing me off. It looks like there is more development on the Sprint phone roms.
Look on eBay for verizon unlimited data you can get a line for around 200$ but you also have to pay full price for a phone so it will be about $900 total for a gs4 with unlimited data.

I moved from sprint for the GS4. Of course it depends on your location but for me it's been a night and day difference. Sprint was pathetically slow.
From my GS4 using Tapatalk 2
Do it. Going from sprint to Verizon is like going from 56k dial up to road runner lightning. It really is just like that actually now that I think about it. Sprints 3g is lucky to hit 100kb/s in my area and I do 30-50mbps on Verizon in most areas. It's worth the money. It was for me

Agreed. It's been a few years since I've had sprint but oh my gawd was it awful. It only lasted about 8 months though thank goodness.

Go Verizon. Ive been with every carrier out there except at&t...which I will stay away like the plague. Verizon has the TRUE coverage that nobody else can come close to. You get what you pay for...

Just left Sprint due to crappy coverage - also live in rural area. Verizon tower is 2 mi from my house, plus I get 4G! Could barely get 1 bar in my living room with Sprint. Luckily I was able to force roaming on my last phone for 2 yrs! I'm surprised Sprint didn't cancel my contract ) . BTW - I did try their "Airave" to boost coverage........swapped it out twice (malfunctions with msgs), finally turned that in as well. Verizon is not perfect, but much better coverage!
Lol... Sprint... I had Sprint for a couple weeks and it was the worst service i've ever had under contract. Cricket was the only service that was slower. Luckily i was able to get out of the contract in enough time. I can't say anything for sure about visual voicemail, but why would you think "Verizon" didn't have google maps? I don't think i've ever had an android phone, even on cricket, that didn't have google maps. Or am i not understanding the question properly.
Sprint was about 300kb/s at my work with atleast 10 dead spots around the building (Worse at home). Verizon is 25-36mb/s with out any dead spots
I also switched from Sprint. Speeds were terrible, and I hated it.
Now, speeds are great, but I have a stupid cap. I also lost Google Voice integration which makes me really sad, but I think I'll get over it.
I said I'd never leave Sprint but here I am. I can't stand Verizon because of the way they do things. Locking their phones down and this damn data share thing. 2gb of data for $60? Yeah....sounds like a good deal to me!!! NOT!! They do have the best coverage though and my wife has them so here I am.

I was in the same boat. I have been with Sprint since 1997. Switched from the Nexus S 4G (paying for 4G for the last 2 years that has never come and is not even on the road map last time I looked). Switched to the Galaxy S4 on Verizon. It is amazing the difference.
Between the phone and the network, I am able to play Ingres (at a reasonable speed without taking 45 - 60 seconds to deploy a resonator), check in to four square locations within seconds, etc.
I would definetly recommend it.
I've been with all 4 major Carriers in the USA. Sprint is the worst when it comes to call service & data speeds. Verizon is the best in my experience. It's more expensive but you get what you pay for. I get excellent service everywhere. Fast 4G LTE at my house. But you also give up things when you move to Verizon. No more unlimited data so you gotta watch your data usage with that LTE. Locked Bootloaders so depending on what phone you have on Verizon, development might not be so great. And another annoying gripe is that consistent Wi-Fi notification instead of a quick toggle in the notification bar. But it's all on you. If you don't plan to root your phone or you don't use that much data then Verizon is the best service in my experience. T-Mobile rolled out LTE in my state already so I'm considering going back to them. I never had problems with their service when I use to be with them.
I left Sprint for Verizon, couldn't be happier!
Left sprint 2 days ago for S4 on Verizon, world of difference already, data speeds are MUCH better! Unlimited is great with Sprint but I don't have the time to use unlimited data when you get under 100kb or less on 3g! My 4G stays on all the time with Verizon!
I left Sprint the day the s3 was released. I have never looked back. Unlimited data is no good when you can't access data. (My s2 worked Great on wifi). Took it to Vegas, where they had the old WiMax 4g. I was in and out so much, it destroyed my battery.
Until Verizon,I thought mobile internet was just crap.
Sent from my SCH-I545 using xda app-developers app
Switched from Sprint yesterday and already know I made the right decision, ETF and all. Unlimited is a misnomer when thr limit is the network itself.

I've made the switch myself about a year and a half ago. Best thing I could have ever done, however it is a bit more price wise but it's well worth it. Coverage and data is excellent.
VZW has their own navigation program but Google Maps is still available to download and use. There is no proprietary visual voice mail, but there's a ton of apps you can download to fix that.
