Same problem here!
I have the same issue. Onda VBi40 Elite reflashed with XDA 4.04 rc3.
No speech key on the Google keyboard, no Google Voice Typing Key option. Voice Search works fine
I took the VoiceSearch.apk file supplied, copied it to the System.App folder and remade the permissions. After rebooting the tablet the speech button was present with the Google keyboard but voice input was disabled.
I used the same file to install Voice Search over the original version. That provided a speech key, but disabled Voice input. I had to uninstall and then reinstall from the Play Store. That took me back to where I started - voice search worked but no speech key for the keyboard.

I can install the S-voice of Galaxy S3 on Defy?
if so with which ROM?

ICS roms only...

It works in ICS. I did not installed it as root. Sometimes it stops responding after pressing to talk and have to restart.
Thanks for all
Tested it on CM9. It works good. Crashes on some specific commands ("turn on wifi",...) due to missing touchwizz layer. Understands pretty well what i say, but doesn't beat Siri (yet)

Works very well for me, except giving s-voice a new wake-up name.
ROM: 19.05 CM9 build by epsylon
i put the .apk in system/app folder, gave it the correct permissions, put the .so in the lib folder and changed the 2 lines in the build.prop
Right now, Samsung disable S-voice requests from other devices different of SGIII... sad thing
mine always say "network error, please try again"

I see your problem and i know a solution. For 1st, install exDialer from Google Play.
After you installed, go to ExContacts, go to the contact you want and change. It worked for me!

Mr.Indigo has found the solution, I tested with another dialer, dialer rocket pro, and work on my xperia neo v. If someone has the same problem, there are different dialers in play store.
ok so google now has updated to allow voice search over bluetooth headset which DOES work...or for me anyways,. HOWEVER
we still have the same ol' problem of being not able to "push bluetooth headset button" to open google now .
or shall i say i cant find a way, has anyone else had success with this?
so far ive tried disabling s-voice in apps menu, and now it goes to google voice dial,
i cannot disable voice dial.,
ive also tried using the "bluetooth launch" app from market to no response,
any help would be majorly appreciated
update:

I'm not sure if this is true for other phones listed above, but for The Galaxy Note II, I had to make sure S-Voice was disabled (it says Voice Dialer on the first post).
Also, if you have downloaded bluetooth launcher you probably already tried:
"Google Search" and then selected "com.google.android.googlequicksearchbox.VoiceSearchActivity"
and was still launching S-Voice. Once you disable S Voice (note the space) go into Settings > Application manager and scroll to the right to ALL. Then find S Voice and disable it.
Once you disable it and hit the button on the paired bluetooth device, you will get a "Complete Action Using" dialog. Resist the temptation to choose Google search. I know it's the logical choice, however you will not get Google Now; you will get a Google voice dialer instead. So make sure you choose "Bluetooth Launch" and select ALWAYS. Now when you hit the bluetooth button, you should get Google Now.
soooo, no progress
still stuck at getting the microphone to actualy work when google now is accessed.
i see a thanks from member "exitcode1" did you have any better luck ?

My mistake... activating Now from bluetooth worked so well I just assumed the whole process would work, but the phone mic was actually hearing me from inside my bag, not the BT mic.

Is that even with the google now setting enabled to listen to google now voice searches via bluetooth when bluetooth device is connected???
I had to select the box to enable blutooth mic in Google now, then it worked. I still have to hit my bt button a few times the first time I use it.

Did you ever figure out how to fix this issue? I want Google Now to pop up when I press my bluetooth button on my headset. I'm currently running 4.1 on my DNA (About to me 4.2.2 in about 20 minutes)

I don't have a samsung phone. But I'll try using this method and see what happens.
Got mine working with HTC One, maximushd 30, kk 4.4 and a 2014 bmw.
Used bluetooth launch and chose voicesearchactivity under google search.
Also I made sure bluetooth headset was checked on in google now-settings-voice.

Has anyone tried to enable google assistant via xposed and android n-ify? I tried it but for some reason I cannot get it to work because holding the home button doesn't work at all. I disabled the screenshot of the home button when hold. If anyone got it to work please share your methods. Thanks.
Same here...
Using the Parasite 18S+19S ROM you get now on tap by long pressing home, so it would probably work with that ROM.
using cuoco's rom, working perfectly. activated via voice command, no need to press any key. i just say "okay google" and it springs to action. I know this doesn't answer your question but it's an alternative.
