Cheers dude ill have a quick gander.. btw can i do this to install cm10??
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda app-developers app

after doing so you'll able to install any rom* you'd like including CM10/CM10.1 and perform a full backup of your device.
keep in mind that it'll void your warranty.
*make sure that you install a rom for your device model here's a quick guide:

you can check your version at settings>about phone.

rooting my phone????

Now then guys... i am thinking about rooting my phone to put jelly bean on my samsung galaxy s2 .... i was just wondering views on which is the best one to go for ( LINKS PLEASE ) and is it easy to do you know the usual questions you will have heard them before lol IM A NEWBIE !!!
Cheers People
Download Siyah 3.5.2.
http://www.gokhanmoral.com/gm/2012/07/29/siyahkernel-s2-v3-5/
Tar for Odin.
Then use this guide.
http://www.androidauthority.com/galaxy-s2-i9100-root-android-4-0-3-ics-xwlpd-88120/
Nevermind it says Cf-root. I flashed my Siyah kernel that way.
After that, flash any rom you want in recovery. Just do a Nandroid backup in recovery and backup apps with Titanium backup from Market!!!
Sent from my Galaxy S2 GT i9100
Don't restore apps after flashing newer ROM, cause your phone will bootloop.
Better create text file and write names of installed apps.
Im not sure why everyone is worried about backing up there apps ive flashed about a 100 roms and never had to back them up cause if u go to the play store under my apps there always there
Infact there are apps there id forgotten about just pick which ones u want and re install .some roms auto instal them for u .make sure you have a google acc obviously!

What type of data? Music and photos are saved to the external SD card for me, and as for game save data, I believe that is externally backed up as well.

Only if the application is on the external memory card then it's backed up there. Otherwise they'll loose the data if that's not the case.

If you restore from google play, you loose all your app settings and you will have to reconfigure each app.
Also, Google Play will not show apps installed offline (apk)
Restoring app data with third party app like titanium backup is safe if app is compatible with the target rom

one more question after i done tht tutorial how do i flash the rom to my phone?? and then how would you put another one on if i gt bored of tht one ?? cheers

CWM-and have you bothered reading a Rom thread as there's normally install instructions.
And when I get bored of a rom I just restore my nand backup of something previous.

in order to install a perticular custom rom , all u have to do is to follow the install instruction's of the same in there OP. and the same applies to all other roms also.
since installation instruction do vary from one custom rom to another
Jasper, you are better to read up on things so you are familiar with the processes of like rooting/kernels/roms/cwm/Odin/troubleshooting.
I understand reading 1000s of posts is tedious, but you could end up with a non working phone.
Sent from my GT-I9100
so i succesfully flashed Siyah 3.5.2 onto my phone now on to flashing the rom onto my phone
Done it people I officially have flashed paranoid android hybrid 1.9.5 cm10 on my galaxy s2 yet .... the newbie is not a newbie anymore ... anything else I can do with my phone ????

Problems/doubts related to rooting the phone

I was going through threads on rooting, ROMs, kernels and bricking. Before reading threads about bricking I wanted to root my phone but after reading I got scared of bricking my phone which I think is difficult to debrick (unbrick).
Is it really the case that we cannot debrick the phone at home? Is it ok to root with such a consequence?
Sent from my GT-I9100 using xda app-developers app
All I can say is if you're that worried about it, don't root your phone or flash anything. Leave it on stock & enjoy it.
Is it possible to change ROM without rooting the phone?
And what are the chances of bricking the phone while rooting? And if bricked what is procedure to make it as earlier

use this to root your S2...It is 100% risk free. However use only if u are on ICS
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1501719
Also, read everything before u flash a rom/kernel..95% of them get bricked without reading or consulting properly

I read it, but I didn't not find anything written as it won't brick the phone. So just wanted to confirm even if I made any mistake, it won't brick my phone, right?

if you don't wanna brick your phone, then don't screw up in following the instructions
Look at method 1 in the link from my signature
It will not brick your phone as I now include cwm4

And it wont wipe anything..
Just go ahead..u aint flashing any inseure kernel or any rom..so there is no chance of bricking..Go ahead

When you are in Recovery Mode, do NOT choose "apply update from sdcard" instead, choose "install zip from sdcard"

Why multiple same question posts why not ask in the ARHD question and answers thread .
Repeat the usual answer is one the download is bad or two the user fails to follow instructions are 99% of install faults.
jje
About the instruction im 100% sure that ive done them in right way. But the problem is that im recieving the same error in omega.

So, go through step by step what you do. It's easier to suggest fixes if we have all info instead of single line comments...
You said it's rooted, Are you using a Samsung rom with an exfat sd card or a CM rom with an exfat card, Is the card formatted fat32?
What steps do you do when you flash a rom, internal sd card or external?
Clean install or dirty?

Find out what is going qrong by looking at the recovery logs..after a failed install..reboot the phone..use any root enabled explorer to go into cache》recovery and open last install..then read it and find the line where the installation aborts..post the error here..maybe then we can help..
Just writing i am not able to install will notbget you any help...

Have a look here => http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1075278
In the first post, there is a Quick Root Guide.
For you old firmware, the second (DooMLoRD's zergRush exploit) method might still work.
That is very easy and will not increase the flash counter.
Good luck.
P.S.: As your firmware is very old, you really should consider to flash a newer ROM. Maybe you should create a complete system backup in CWM recovery (=> nandroid backup) after rooting. Then flash a new ROM. And if it does not work or you don't like it, you can restore the backup again to go back to your current system.
As soon as you are rooted, you can use Mobile Odin app to flash other stock firmware versions and/or custom kernels without increasing the flash counter.
Does this erase any memory in my mobile?
Sent from my GT-I9100G using xda app-developers app
Rooting wont erase anything, but flashing a new firmware/rom will. Won't erase your pictures, music etc but will delete your apps, contacts and messages. You can always make a backup of your contacts and messages using apps like SMS backup+
Once your rooted, you can make a backup of your apps with titanium backup.
This is a very common doubt.Search the forums for more information.

Back up stock rom

Hi everyone,
I just reset my phone through LGPNST, cuz I accidentally deleted the Rom trying to flash new Rom . I learned it the hard way cuz I had my phone stuck in recovery mode for a week.
Long story short I just wanna backup my stock Rom before I try to flash other roms. Can anybody suggest best way how to do it ?
Every reply is appreciated and thanks in advance,.

Do you mean TWRP? Just back it up in recovery (TWRP). However, if you are using the recovery that freegee installed, I'd download and flash a newer one from the development section. They create much more reliable backups.

Yes it's twrp which I downloaded from freegee . I tried to backup from the system but it said failed for some reason which I dont remember. As I told I'm kinda new to all this stuff .this is my first android device . So could you please send the link that you're talking about . Thank you for your reply .

Here's the link for the TWRP that has been developed for the OG: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2019662. I was able to flash this to my phone via the instructions within this thread. I'm a noob as well to flashing, so can't give advice beyond pointing you here.
Here's a link for Clockwork Mod for the OG, another recovery program: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2010984
There seems to be a bit more development being done for the Clockwork Mod...
