by the way , on freeza's and cobraboy's ROM , I and most CDMA users gets 4200-4600 quadrant scores......yeahhh and that's without overclocking!!!!!!! imagine the scores at 1.8 ghz.
If we ever get linaro optimized cm9 or any Rom....scores would be much higher.
I doubt that buddy! Wihout overclocking?? Thats nearly impossible:/

And if I remember right, that ROM is cooked to give you higher benchmark scores, but that does not translate into real world speed. Honestly, benchmark scores are relatively useless as I've had ROMs with mediocre scores feel a lot zippier than ones with high scores.
Yeah u are correct and lot of people have a wrong idea about benchmarks ! Like they compare a galaxy s2 i9100 with custom rom that got 4700 to a one x that scored 4700 but they dont realise that the one x is running a 720p display 1280x720 and the s2 800x480 so the one x has way more pixels to push ! If the one x was tested at 480p it would of smoked the s2

Yeah I know but that ROM was much smoother on my EVO.
I don't depend on benchmarks as the screen resolution differs from phone to phone but there are "OFF SCREEN" gpu benchmarking apps too that does not depend on screen res.
And adreno 220 scores much better in normal gpu benchmark apps also like nenamark, scores a few fps better than Mali 400 though we have higher res!
I posted the above post just to show OP that much higher scores are possible as he himself posted his quad scores comparing to devices with higher resolution.

Anyone else surprised? I thought the difference would be minimal, but the Nexus would be a bit faster due to the smaller resolution and being stock android.

Nexus 4 has some crazy thermal throttling oddity I thought I read...could be why.
Maybe the DNA's ram is faster? Otherwise, it should be the same exact hardware going in, performance wise (and rom, but I didn't think the rom speed would affect a benchmark).
EDIT: Or it's probably the throttling if that's true...
is there enough differences in 4.1 and 4.2 to where the benchmarks dont take that into account?

I'd say thats doubtful, the OS was not overhauled by any means. It was basically a security patch with a few framework modifications.

Does the nexus 4 have 2gb of ram? Because that could explain the difference in scores. I've always been an HTC guy, but honestly, quadrants don't and never will matter. The only way to see how a device really performs is to use it yourself.

Nope, they both have the adreno 320. It is a new beefed up gpu though - twice as fast as the adreno 225 in the GS3 and other dual core s4 processor phones.

They both have 2GB but might not be the same speed - and speed matters more at this point.
Nexus 4 has always benchmarked lower for some reason, it is essentially the same hardware that's inside the optimus G, since the only difference is the O.S may be it is taxing the system a lot more than 4.1, it might not look like much but there is significant difference when it comes to framework on the 4.2, may be it is taxing the system more in the background then 4.1

ok
The reason the Nexus 4 scores lower is because it features thermal throttling which reduced the CPU speed when it reaches a certain temperature to maintain battery efficiency. Stick it in a freezer and the benchmark numbers increase. http://androidandme.com/2012/11/sma...hmark-showdown/comment-page-1/#comment-418705

Yep. This is the reason. It has been stated on Anandtech. It makes perfect sense. It's all related to both phones using different kernels.

Is it a feature, or a problem? It's possible the processor is more easily overheating in the Nexus 4 from it's position or something. From the sound of things, the DNA will get as good as or better battery life with 4G off.
It's also possible the software is cutting it off way too early. I once had an Asus gaming laptop that needed a bios update because it throttled the gpu down after it got half the temperature that gpu could take.
HTC always has crazy high benchmarks. It obviously means nothing in day to day performance. My one x scored more than twice as high as my galaxy nexus but the nexus usability wise was smoother.

Hi, I got the HTC one X+ from At&t today and every time I try to use it it gets really hot, even when not using its still warm. This hapened to the HTC one X international when I had it like 6 months ago so I returned it. And now I wanted to give another try to HTC and still the same problem. I had lot of phones from Nexus one to last one Galaxy note 2 none of them had this overheating issues. The phone gets hot and the battery drains very fast.
Anyone have same kinds of issue?

Do you have some objective numbers for hot and warm in Fahrenheit or Celsius? Everything else is pretty subjective and what is hot for you is maybe warm for me
It gets "warm" pretty fast but what do you expect from a quad-core in a small shell "overclocked" to 1.7Ghz. I think it is similar to the GSII.

48C is within tolerance. 60+ is danger zone and I would suggest shutting off the device and letting it cool if it gets there.
This device doesn't have the wifi issues, I've confirmed it multiple times.
Don`t worry, the phone automatically turns itself off when it overheats and will only turn back on once it has cooled sufficiently, no risk whatsoever, the tegra soc was purposely engineered to hit its maximum thermal limit.
Get hot, yes. Overheat no.
Lol soon we might be buying heatsinks for our phones.

Yes, this is true. If something is using a lot of power and putting out a lot of heat, the battery will get used. What do you want us to tell you?
The best option is custom kernels and underclock/undervolt. Tegra 3 is a pile of crap but it's the only way to ensure that the One X+ didn't become a vastly different device compared to the One X.
It seems like whenever I'm playing game, even just a simple running game the battery seems get to excessively hot. When I have the phone charging and playing a game it can get upwards of 119f. Is there something that I'm missing?

I understand that but by that notion the phone is unusable while charging for any intense application. I previously had a vivid and was able to play intense games while on the charger until the battery was full and temp never topped 100f. Now I play some simple running game for 15 minutes while charging and my battery is at 119f.

The optimus 4x hd is the closest and most comparable to the optimus since it has essentially the same software and is the closest tegra 3 device to the OG.
Per antutus website, the OG beats the 4x HD in total score and GPU. It loses barely to the N7, but that is likely due to butter and software improvements. Assuming both are on the same software, the OG should perform better.
I believe anandtech said Adreno 320 is the best ARM GPU this year minus the iPad's PowerVR GPUs. It is the top android GPU.
Either way, both are great GPUs, but the S4 Pro has a better CPU.

I've been using my HOX+ for a little over 4 months now and I can already tell it's going to go down as my favorite Android phone to date (with the exception of the Nexus One, it still holds a special place in my heart). With that said though, while I find HTC's customization of stock Android very useful in some areas, I'm now seeing the effects it has on the overall performance of the phone. I got my dad an Xperia TL and was using it for a week or so to get it ready for him and even though the HOX+ smacks the heck out of it with it's CPU numbers, the fact of the matter is that the Xperia is much, much [much] snappier since customization of the OS is very limited. You can quickly and easily see the difference by just typing with the keyboard, the HOX+ has that delay/lag to it when typing quickly or using the backspace, however, there is none with the Xperia TL...very similar to my Nexus 7. Swiping aside, my typing accuracy is far better on the Xperia TL and my Nexus 7 than with the HOX+.
It's really unfortunate that we don't have any AOSP ROMS (CM, AOKP, etc) for the AT&T varient because this phone would be fast as heck.
Elegancia has "de-sensed" options if you want a ROM without HTC's sense.
I think the sense interface is the element that most distinguishes HTC from all other manufacturers ....
Unfortunately its beauty is comparable to its heaviness
Maybe the question is how to optimize the sense ....
Sent from my HTC One X+ using xda app-developers app
So HTC should focus on optimizing sense... even the "feature overloaded" Touchwiz (compared galaxy S3 of a friend with my x+) is snappier/faster on similar Hardware.

My international HOX+ is fully stock, and its buttery smooth, sgs3 has no match to the smoothness on sense 4+, locked 60 fps.
Tips:
Go into developer options and set all the animations to .5x
tick force gpu rendering.
go to check if 7 digital is running in apps>running, and disable it if it's there.
Disable HTC gestures in display, gestures and buttons
Use the power saver and only tick the conserve cpu usage to underclock cpu to 1.3ghz, it doesn't slow down the device (if you're not rooted)
For the keyboard, try using the trace keyboard option in the sense keyboard

It really is. Sense is just beautiful. People complain about how much better TouchWiz is, but Sense is easier to navigate...
It just seems to me that HTC just needs to get rid of some (maybe most) of the proprietary apps when google can supply the same services in a more lightweight manner. Particularly for the AT&T version. You really can't use that version without rooting it and getting rid of the AT&T apps because despite the quad-core processor they REALLY slow it down (not to mention that they drain the battery even if you're not doing much of anything).
It's great after that though. I'm just looking forward to REAL AOSP on my AT&T X+....if hope isn't lost.
Anyone have more TIPS for daily Sense optimization!?!?!?:silly:

I didn't not know about that. Doesn't it just effect the device for warranty purposes. It just voids warranty after a certain amount of flashes?
