Hello! I am a repair tech and I have a Samsung i500A here and I am trying to find out if the ESN is good or not. To my understanding, this model was only made for Verizon and U.S. Cellular, correct? I have called both carriers multiple times and they are both telling me that this ESN is not in their system. Are there any other CDMA carriers that carry this phone? It is not carrier-branded on the outside and the screen is broken or I'd turn it on to find out.

So far I have called Verizon, CSpire and Cellular South and all 3 told me the phone's MEID was not found in any of their systems. Is there a website or any other way I can find out this phone's carrier? This is driving me nuts!

make sure you are giving them the right format
if you need use the converter HERE
And One more converter HERE
it is then usually the ""MEID HEX:"" that you want to give them
some of the carriers want the ""ESN (DEC)""
and so-forth and so-on...
also verizons online checker is HERE
... no need to call anyone
Also another really good one id at swappa HERE
.
Swappa's ESN check only checks to see if you're imputing a valid ESN, or MEID, it doesn't validate if it's clean or not.
Also, Verizon's "Check Device" page does not validate if an ESN is active, lost/stolen, or clean. It just validates if the device is compatible with Verizon's network.
www.CheckESNFree.com will validate against Verizon, Sprint, MetroPCS, Tracfone, StraightTalk, and soon the IMEI Blacklist.
I figured it out. It ended up being Alltell. I just wish they'd brand them all on the outside.
BTW I know about the MEID and converter etc. That wasn't the problem.

I'm thinking of buying a used one of these off craigslist ... but I'm on tmobile and I'm worried that I won't be able to unlock it without having an AT&T account first .... Can I unlock one of these without having an AT&T account? Most steps I've read talk about downloading an unlocker program from the market ... but without an AT&T sim card in the phone I don't think I'll be able to access the market ...
What do you all think?
You don't have to have cell network to connect to a wifi and log into market. You will need to root it also before those apps will work. Just fyi though. You will NOT get 3g/4g on T-Mobile

Thanks for responding!
3g/4g only involve data speeds, right? I have wifi at home and at work and do not use a data plan ... So I can root and then unlock on my home wifi without any AT&T account?
I see no reason you can't. I have done lots of phones that way.

Do you or anyone else know how to check if I have the dreaded KK6 2.3.6 version?

I'm using my unlocked Skyrocket on T-Mobile and I am getting 4G Speeds.
I called AT&T and told them I bought the phone off Craigslist, want to use T-Mobiles network. They asked me for the IMEI and gave me am unlock code no questions asked.

Absolutely nothing considering unlocking the 2 phones is a completely different process. On the i777 we can do it with root only. We don't have to call at&t

Hey guys,
I'm traveling to Greece for our honeymoon and want to be able to use my cell phone without paying Verizon's crazy international rates. I'm running Scott's CleanRom on Verizon. Can I simply buy a Vodafone prepaid Sim, pop it in, click add APN, add all the appropriate info for the access point, and then all good to go? I read imnuts post regarding this but am a little confused. Hopefully someone can help! Thanks in advance.

That is correct. I recently did this with a Telus prepaid SIM, and worked just fine. Granted, I was using Beans18, but your method should still be correct.
In Greece right now and did just that! I only had to add an apn for data use. Really loving that I can do that with this phone.

What provider did you get the sum from? Do they have a data only sim?
Sent from my SCH-I605 using xda app-developers app
I'm using my-q which apparently is now owned by wind. I'm not sure if they do. But with my particular prepaid service you can add Internet bundles online so technically you could just use the money you put on your sim to replenish your data instead of adding more minutes.

I am very interested in purchasing this tablet rooted. I need to work on Sprint's network. Will rooting affect its Sprint network programming (meaning would I be able to put the device on Sprint's network)? Thank you.
No just rooting your view won't effect any of that. You should be fine.

I have for the past few years always bought the phones I wanted from craigslist, I would get an att phone and then root+ custom rom then use on straightalk by setting the APN.
Well when the note 2 came out I really wanted one but couldnt find one under $600 used, so I got on a friends verizon plan and paid $300 for my note 2.
Fast foward a year or so and now she is letting the phones get shut off due to an outstanding balance on it (always paid my part)
So my question is.... will this phone need unlocked to be able to use it on straight talk? Would a root and custom rom be all thats needed or do i need to have it unlocked? I still have my straight talk sim card.
This is my first time dealing with a verizon phone and a situation like this.
Any help or suggestions are appreciated.

Sorry, your current phone might not be eligible for any plan on VZW since she is terminating for outstanding payment. It depends if they block your device from the network or not, go to a Verizon store with your device and explain the situation, I'm sure they would try to retain the business if it is at all possible.

You can use this phone on ATT and Tmobile and any of their MVNO's as well as on Pageplus, selectel and couple others.. So to answer your question NO you are not screwed you still have options..
This phone comes unlocked already no need to install custom rom. but you do need to change the APN's
just pull out the Verizon sim card and pop in the sim card you have and should work but you will have to change the apns for mms and data
Awesome... thanks

No you're not. I've tested almost all gsm prepaid services and they work. Not lte speeds but at least hspa+

I'm a new when it comes to this. But if I have a bad ESN Verizon note 2. Can I use it on straight talk at&t with no problems. Cuz the ESN is only banned from verizon?
Also. When using it on straight talk at&t I'd still use Verizon based roms and radios? Just straight talks correct APN settings for data to come in.
Do I need a special ROM to get rid of the this isn't a Verizon Sim card stuff.

I thought they shared banned ESNs between each other? I thought that is why most people either sell it here with a note of bad esn or ship it over across seas.
I purchased a used Verizon Galaxy Note II knowing it had a bad ESN - planning to use it as wifi only. One day decided to try and see if a AT&T gophone sim would work. Don't know about the plan you're addressing - but AT&T absolutely activated the gophone sim. What I think AT&T will not do is activate if the phone's IMEI shows its stolen - but the previous owner not paying his/her bill to Verizon didn't seem to be a problem. Just my personal experience - not a universal, guaranteed answer
It works for me. I installed CM11 on my note and it worked like a champ!
Here's my next question is I'm going at&t st with this Verizon note. Now when I flash clean ROM. Old ROM I like. Do I use at&t network or verizon. Either way I know I have to manually input apn settings.
Am I better off using at&t Roms?...

because its a verizon device use a verizon rom, dont use at&t rom it may brick your device.
I agree with Bonkurei. Stick with Verizon Roms. Do NOT try the at&t roms.Stick with Verizon roms and you will be fine.
I agree run custom roms with Verizon settings

Better to buy I Verizon phone off the street to use with AT&T than an AT&T branded phone. Never know when you might wake up to "we're sorry, but this device has been blocked" lol nice insurance scams

Shot answer yes it will work with no issues, as long as the custom rom allows you to edit apns you will be golden, to get rid of the pesky non verizon sim message, either freeze the Samsung setup wizard apk with titanium backup or delete it all together. I have my Verizon note 2 on ST. I've been running beans 22 and have ad no issues at all. Also when choosing your network choose at&t, Verizon's won't work
Sent from my SCH-I605 using Tapatalk
Looks like you got an answer. However, carriers do share the ESN and IMEI numbers for devices and check for blacklisted devices. Prepaid plans may be a different matter, but I'd be willing to bet that they wouldn't activate it on any contract plans and you'll not get any kind of warranty on the device. So, if you break it, lose it, or brick it, you'll have to pay full price for the device. Probably would have been cheaper to pay your bill...
