Mysterious memory usage? - Sony Ericsson Xperia Mini, Mini Pro, Xperia Pro, A

hi people
I have a mini pro sk17i
Real ics 6
Panic k
My apps are linked with link 2 sd
I used to have between 80mb - 90mb used always and had nearly 300mb ram free but ive just noticed theres like 200mb unacounted for?
Ive relinked apps and cleared some cache but same prob.
Any ideas?

1- data memory from apps doesn't have anything to do whatsoever with ram memory.
2- some ram memory is reserved for system usage and won't be displayed in system settings.
3- unused ram is wasted ram.

I meant my internal memory.
Ram is ok
Just have 200 taken by something and im not sure what

Im still stumped on this
I have 80mb internal left now.
I used to have 80 used, not 80mb left.
I have v6 supercharger if that could cause it?
Also all my apps are linked with link2sd just last few days ive had so much internal memory used
is it easier to reinstall my rom? Or is there something I could do to see whats eating all this up?
My ram is fine

internal memory != ram
sd card memory != ram
in other words, when you install apps they are not taking up your RAM, they are taking up your internal memory, and if you have it configured they are taking up your sd card memory.
what ROM are you running?
They are typically apk files...you can find them all over the market. But i don't think stock allows LWPs.

to break down the previous post, Your aria works the exact same way as your iphone in regards to internal storage/memory usage.

i m running liberated froyo 008..
with this rom installed i get roughly 160 mb free internal storage.
does that mean my phone has 160 mb ram to work with or in the background i do have 384 mb ram??
what i am not able to understand is, in iphone 3gs there is a separate dedicated 256 mb ram to process application, while 16gb internal memory is separate which has nothing to do with ram.
while in aria its look like internal memory and ram are not different is that true??
because installing more apps is just slowing it down..
i know i can install apps on sd card, but when 5 or 6 apps are running in the backgorund aria starts lagging i have to use task manager to kill tasks which makes it lag free..

No. internal memory is different from system ram. The aria has very little internal memory, which is where your apps go, this is what you're seeing. The system has its own separate ram.
EDIT: you can see internal memory by going into your application manager. You can see your system memory by going into your running services settings.
EDIT 2: The more apps you install the higher chance you have of having more apps running, which does use system memory.

Task killers are generally bad. Search for task managers like watchdog lite. You can run a benchmark test such as Quadrant Standard to check your phone's performance. I'm running CM7 overclocked at 806 and my score ranges from 990-1040, just to give you a reference range.

Did the benchmark programs get updated to support 2.3? if they didn't, your scores are probably not accurate.
Quadrant Standard is Gingerbread compatible per the dev.

[Q] How much memory is needed for normal operation??

How much internal memory should I have free for normal phone operation? Right now I have 80/278M. Is that enough or am I using too much? How much free memory can I have on stock SGA without any apps installed?
Just checked again. Now I have 57/278M. It's just getting lower during normal operation.
It depends on what applications are running. Just use taskiller to kill unecessary apps to have more free ram.

Yes I know, I am killing apps and freeing memory all the time. I just wanted to know should I be concerned with the amount of memory left or not? At what time will my phone slow down because of the amount of free memory? Are there any recomendations regarding the necessary amount of free memory for SGA to work properly?

[Q] Internal Storage Capacity

guys I just bought my X10 yesterday and right now my Free Internal Storage Capacity is only 334MB left, I haven't installed any big size Apps. well I tried to use the Backup and Restore but after upgrading to 2.3 Gingerbread the App was gone. can anyone teach me how to free up some space or is this Capacity alright?

This is normal. Google "x10 internal memory" and you'll see why.
thats because the ROM is installed on ur internal memory only so that's what is occupying ur memory and not some large apps..
Try clearing your cache with cache cleaner ng from the market. You'd be surprised how much memory you can free up

[Q] question about available RAM

hello!why on the specifications of neo says that there is a 512MB ram and we have available only 335MB??that is very sad....the ram is barely enough for the applications i use and most of the times it reaches the limit....if there was 512MB it would be all fine..

I think that's with storage for system apps incuded. you need to root your phone to use the other part.
i have my phone rooted.....what do you mean?can i do something to have more ram?the internal storage of the device is 380MB....the RAM is 335MB....

i think you can do something with app2sd+, but i don't know how...
You can use built in app2sd. Settings-applications-manage apps-choose some app and "move to sd"
Or if you are rooted simply delete bloatware and etc

maybe you didn't understand my question....I don't have the problem with the internal memory(cause I can move apps to SD)but with RAM....the applications I run simultaneously reach the ram to the limit and the side effect when that happens is that the phone becomes laggy because of restarting some applications to release ram...

If you are already rooted i can suppose only that:
1. Lookup your ALL apps, clean cashe and dalvik
2. Remove bloatware system/app
3. Move most importants apps to system/app folder
4.After. clean rom install you had about 60mb space in system/app partitiond. after cleaning about 100 no needed bloatware app you had in system/app partitions more 150+mb free spce.
5. REBOOT is sometime useful.
6. Dont use task killers, cashe cleaner 3rd part apps.
7.No need complain about so small ram, rom,memory...you had alot memory, ram etc.....USE IT RIGHT WAY.
8. Have nice day!
Cheers!

RAM is 512MB but shared for GPU so just 335Mb available for users.
Similarly S galaxy, 512MB ram but just 330MB available for users.

sry for my eng
you can change, remove unnecessary app on your system. and at the data/app.... just organized it....

[Q] How to maximise RAM?

I am using nAa kernel 10 with MiniCM7-2.1.8 on my X10 Mini Pro with System theme. I use a PIN code for my SIM card. My SD-card is 16GB class 10 with 15.5GB FAT partition followed by 0.5GB EXT4 partition (for apps 2 SD)
My favourite apps that I have running most of the time are Swype, Keyboard Manager, TouchPal Dialer and MortPlayer. These all appear in my Running Services.
I have noticed that MortPlayer has been getting killed recently and I have noticed that Facebook and Maps are running all the time.
I think I am running out of memory and Android is killing MortPlayer. I have frozen Facebook and Maps with Titanium Backup to reclaim the RAM but this now means I have to unfreeze them to before I can use them. This is inconvenient.
At times I got down to 1.2MB RAM free. I had turned on CompCache to 18% but this did not solve all of my problems.
I read somewhere about moving the /data to /sd-ext (cache memory?) - this post is for an Arc but does the same principle apply? (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1333379).
As my SD card is a fast one can I make the SD card appear as extra RAM? I realise this would slow things down as a fast SD card still cannot beat RAM speed.
Is there any benefit in keeping my /sd-ext partition on my SD card? I thought it would enable me to store more apps on the phone and still be able to plug the SD card into my PC as a mass storage device (seeing the 15.5GB FAT) to copy music while still using the phone (apps being on the 0.5GB EXT4 partition).
I would appreciate any advice.
Thanks
Darren .)
In my opinion phones with EXT are much slower than normal phones, I talk from my experience. My phone was much slower after i created EXT particion.
To heve more free memory I recomend RAM Manager Pro and 256 swap and of course reformat the SD card with no EXY particion;]

RAM Manager bricked my phone after setting it up and it caused major FCs after installing every app.
RAM manager doesnt/cant brick phones.
ayhow, its not very effective. The most effective app for RAM conservation, after alot of browsing i can say, is Auto Memory Manager.
I get about 75+MB RAM with MiniCM7 2.1.8 with just the launcher running.[Adw ex]
The minimum ive seen with ALOT of multitasking is 40Mb. [Ive set it in such a way that when my RAM goes less than 35Mb, it starts killing hidden/empty/secondry server apps.]

i must say i tried both and i stay with ram manager pro! its amazing how smooth my phone is now! with over 40 mb free with different apps in the backround... i use balance(more free memory) settings which its more recommended to phones like ours... its even better than supercharger, and by now no forced closes or issues... i must say i use last kernel 10 minicm 2.1.8 ondemand 122/691 mhz and no more tweaks or scripts to improve performance, just thus wonderful ap, but ram manager pro,not the free one which does not have all availanle settings... one suggestion to the buddy who open this thread is to reboot the phone after appling the new setting im sure u will feel the difference ..hope to help!
I'm using minicm 2.1.8 with nAa kernel 10,and with ram manager pro 2.1.1. I always have 60mb or more of free ram. Just awesome apk.
Hi all ! + 1 Auto Killer Memory Optimizer ! I use it with miniCM 2.1.8 with nobodyAtall's Kernel and have , if only 360 launcher runs, around 70 free Ram. For me it's the best so far.

Problem is that when I used it for first time on rooted stock and minicm7pro, it caused bootloop at least, and I couldn't manage to do anything, didn't meant to say brick actually. On StornMix, it works normally.
