Hello folks,
In the last week google maps has gone from only having the requisite (for this phone) slow to no gps issues to freezing the phone, causing it to reboot as soon as I do almost anything in maps. This was constant in v4.4 (which I updated to last week), so I downgraded to previous version, 4.0. This appeared to work better for about 3 whole minutes, and then promptly caused the phone to **** its britches. Have any of you folks experienced this issue? The phone hasn't been rooted (I figure I'll wait and see what's what with 2.2) and besides the stereotypical random lagging nothing else causes the phone to lock up and die the way Maps does. Is it the app? the dodgy gps? I didn't spend this much on a phone to not be able to use all of its features, so any help is appreciated.
Cheers,
Dennis
Mine sometimes locks up if I leave gps on. I leave it off and turn it on when it loads up fully

I'll have to try that out. I have gps set to come on when maps fires up. It just irks me that I would have to remember to do such silliness on such an otherwise very nice phone. I hope Samsung gets their stuff sorted on this gps issue., and fast. Lets hope september being when the fix comes isn't just smoke.

I'm getting the same issue. GPS and maps worked once for me after doing the quick fix. Since then i have updated the Maps and now opening it freezes the phone. Literally everything comes to an halt and renders my poor Vibrant useless till I pull the battery. Not a life altering problem but i do hope i can resolve it soon in case I might need to use it.

I turned off GPS and that seems to be the culprit. I even went back to using maps v 4.4 and it hasn't puked yet. I'm definitely tired of this dodgy gps thing.

Yeah I feel you on that but just have to believe samsung will hold true to their statement and a fix is on the way. Love my phone too much to worry about that

They already have. The Epic 4G contains the GPS fix and Engadget has reported that the GPS fix indeed works.
I have the same problem, had to uninstall Earth.

I had the same issue i used ROM manager ran the Fix permissions and rebooted and it works fine now..
I don't know what has happened, but the last two days my TB has just started randomly rebooting. I'm unrooted. It first did a random reboot after using GPS, then it has done it twice today without GPS being on, then the third time was when I started up GPS to use my speedo app, then the last time it was just sitting on the arm of my recliner and it just rebooted again. this time no GPS. It has just started in the last two days, so I was wondering if anybody else that is unrooted was experiencing the same issues?
Apparently there is another thread, I'm really sorry about. The title was a little misleading. Please merge mods.
Did you just update google maps?

No, it's currently waiting to be updated.
I'm having similar issues. I'm also having GPS issues. It takes a LONG time for the GPS to locate and my weather is often showing Brooklyn, NY. I'm in Washington state.
Dan
I started having GPS issues last week. (really the first time I had used it since getting the phone.
Has anyone else noticed that the Photon seems to self reboot at odd times. I have yet to have it reboot on me while using it, but my wife's Photon has rebooted on her during active use.
Anyone else experiencing this?
No, but you leave alot of unanswered questions. Is your wife rooted? what is she running (app's) that you are not running?
I have heard of this before and if i remember, delete everything and start new, just putting a few app's at a time back on. When it starts acting up, you found your app!

Shockingly enough, I did suddenly get that twice yesterday after updating YouTube. However I've been unable to reproduce it with any level of consistency at this point.
For the two Photons I have access too (both are doing the same thing), one is rooted one is not.
Apps in common are:
Enhanced email.
ADW Launcher
Car Home.
My feeling is that more people are having this issue they just don't know about it... I found it because I went to recently used apps and there were none, then I started to watch it...

There is something that we have in common between devices. What system version are you on? 45.3.7?

I've experienced it a couple of times while playing music. A song would be playing and then it would suddenly reboot.
I'm using Google Music...
I've heard of that happening before the 154 update came out. So not sure if you're on the latest OTA or Leak why you'd be getting it, unless as someone mentioned it was an app. Which is possible I s'pose.
i did noticed that when the phone is in the charger, when i take a call
while the phone plugged in i hear no voice and the phone reboots
the phone was pretty hot when it happens so i can assume it's a heat problem
(in my case)
Mine has been rebooting more and more frequently. I went to Sprint today and had them order me a replacement. I'm hoping the new one does not have this issue.
Have you tried wiping data and cache then installing the latest leak?
Sent from my MB855 using XDA App
Just curiues How does wipeing data helps rebooting problems?
You do that before flashing the latest leak. You won't do any good otherwise.

What latest leak? The 198_7?
Yes sir. That's the latest leak/OTA update. Though the reboot issue was fixed for most people with the 154 update. I previously had that issue as well. So you could try that, but not saying it will for sure fix it. That's really the only idea I have, unless you try uninstall your apps and see if it's an app related issue.
Had same famous random reboot issue, after 154 update and a wipe.
Exchanged for new Photon at Best Buy (no hassle swap) 3-4 weeks ago, So far no random reboots. For me, I believe it was hardware related, noticed the phone was getting fairly warm around the same time the random reboots started happening.

I guess it could be hardware related, but that WAS a known issue when the first Photons came out. I had to exchange mine three times due to the reboot issue before the tech told me it was a reported and known issue and they would be releasing a fix for it.
My Evo 4G and EVO 3D both did this sometimes (both stock, not rooted, hardly any 3rd party apps) when signal strength was low.
My Photon does it much less often (did it once today though, but I'm in Canada roaming). My Photon is rooted, but pretty vanilla.
I have gone with all of the OTA's, and have yet to have a reboot.

There was some dude who had this issue and he stuck a business card at the space near the top of the battery to keep it lodged with the connections near the bottom. Supposed ly this worked....but you probably want to get a phone that works straight up.

How stable is the cm10 18/04 ? I flashed the one before it and it would gave black screens and it would not let me download any music or documents from internet.
Try Chris's CM10 0.05.3, I've been using it for a few days now with no reboots or SODs.

I,average about two to three BSODs every other day. When they occur they seem to cluster, so I get a few, stops happening, and everything runs smooth for the next few days. Other than that, this rom has been smooth as silk and stable as can be.

Taking the plunge with the sgt7 cm10 2012-10-08 ROM
I just finished installing the 2012-10-08 ROM, and wanted to report my experience so far.
My Nook Tablet was already rooted and running CM7. I have been waiting to make the move to JB once the stability of the various ROMs seemed to be improving, and the recent work seemed promising. Thus, I decided to dive on in.
Here are the steps I took:
1. Downloaded 08/10 ROM, JB gApps, and CWM as referenced in the OP. Moved them over to my SD card.
2. From Rom Manager on the NT, I booted into recovery and flashed the new CWM. Rebooted the tablet.
3. Booted back into recovery again, did a factory reset (format data/ and cache/), then formatted Dalvik cache as well.
4. Flashed the 08/10 ROM.
5. Flashed JB gapps.
6. Rebooted the tablet.
After a short while, the OS booted up. I connected to my local WiFi, and then I configured the tablet with my Google account info, installed necessary apps, etc.
Everything seemed to work very well until the screen automatically turned off after the tablet stood idle for a while. Pressing the N button or power button did not turn the screen back on. I assume that this is the dreaded "Sleep of Death" (SOD) I have heard so much about.
I held down the power button for 10 seconds or so, released it, then held the power button down until the tablet rebooted. I thought that maybe turning WiFi off before it slept might help, so I experimented a bit, and it did seem to work.
I'm home now, and the battery life of the ROM seems very nice so far. I am playing around again with WiFi left on before it sleeps, to see if I can reproduce the same problem, but so far it is waking back up and working just fine.
All in all, it is a very impressive ROM, and I am glad (so far) that I decided to take the plunge!
Bug with 4/10 version
hi,
i also want to report few bugs with version 4/10: before i went to bed, and charged my NT 16G. from the screen, it confirmed that the charging started. but next morning when i checked again, the battery is still at the same level.
this means that it doesnt really charge, even it said the charging was under-way.
i can confirm that the charge cable was properly connected to my NT, so this is a software bug i think.
Besides, it seems i have the SOD problems sometimes. i tried to reboot, but the power button didnt seem to work. finally, i removed the microSD card, and it seemed to help to reboot my NT. another problem???
thanks.
I think I have to revise my endorsement. The 4/10 rom without enhancements is a buttery smooth, very reliable, daily driver. BSODs are rare, wifi dropping rarely happens. The enhancement pack and the 8/10 rom do fix the wifi dropping and imprive battery performance. Unfortunately they also seem to break a fairn number of apps, including com2us, scrabble, and words with friends I also experienced video freezing. on youtube and netflix. Also memory use seemed higher and I had to frequently (4 or 5 x per day) run fix.permissions to prevent force.closings.on apps . That ended up being a deal breaker, I ended up reverting back to the 4/10, the enhancements ended up causing more headaches then they fixed.
Still, the 4/10 is easily the most stable, functional rom currently running on the tablet. Huge thanks to everyone.who worked on this.
Just a quick update on the 2012-10-08 ROM. Last night, I picked up my NT after having it sit for a couple hours, and pressed the "N" button to wake it back up. The screen turned on, and I briefly saw a notification message scroll up top that said something along the lines of, "SD card unexpectedly removed", and then the tablet rebooted.
I saw that someone else had a similar issue on the DEV thread, and just wanted to confirm that I, too, seem to be having the same problem.

I've found that manually disabling Wifi before sleeping prevents the sdcard issue. The I have no idea why they seem related but it works here on 04/10 that way.

Thanks for the confirmation of my suspicion. It seeps that disabling WiFi before sleeping also prevents the SOD issues, so I will just try to remember to do that when I use it.
I've been trying to fix a problem that has stirred up for the last couple of weeks. Facebook has a new update that makes it run much better faster and more efficient however it has made my Internet connection has multiple drops I do not understand why it a simple app can do this but the minute I log into Facebook my connection becomes unstable sometimes I can get data force short period of time sometimes it is completely gone for 5 to 10 minutes. the only way to fix this is to reboot and not use Facebook app. I have wiped my phone five or more times every time I wipe it I wipe it in the recovery five or more times each time. every time I get things loaded the only thing that seems to cause problems is the Facebook app making my Internet connection unstable. does anybody else experienced this if so does anybody else know of a fix for this it is quite annoying I use Facebook for login for most of my games and from time to time I do not mind getting on Facebook to update his status or read everybody else's statuses. your help is appreciated thank you. I am on ROM liquid 3.2 with IMOS 6.1 overclocked to 1.6 however I have rand stock stats for a full day and still has a problem with the app
I hate to bump but am I the only one having this problem? I guess I should ask is this the only phone having this problem my friend has a thunderbolt also and he is getting the same issue... what does Facebook change to make data drop I don't understand it... it works just fine on Wi-Fi
im having the same issue thought it was just the app or verizon being retarted
Mine was doing the same. I would lose my connection and the facebook app would say something like no connection available and or something about no secure connection available.
I'm on a DNA now and never have any issues with the facebook app or any other dropped connection issue. My thunderbolt was getting bad about dropping connections.

It may be the rom that you're using. Are you still using the factory rom? Or a custom one off here?
My wife's phone is having the same problem. The phone is on the Infected Eternity rom currently with the ICS combo radio. I'm going to try some different radios tonight/over the weekend and see if that helps. I'll post my findings by Monday.
Any other suggestions?
This is happening on all of my family's five phones... I switched over to using FB in a browser and am much happier with the performance.
Sent from Hellâ„¢
ditched the ICS leak combo radios and running the .19 radios now. Everything seems better so far. Told Facebook it wasn't allowed to sync anymore and that also helped. I think the combination of FB syncing and a flaky LTE radio made for an unhappy phone (and wife).
I am running Infected Eternity. The new Facebook app worked fine for me on Gingeritis, but when I flashed Eternity... the app gave me issues. Basically the only problem I've experienced with it was pictures would not load on Eternity.
Can someone please post up the new Facebook apk?
I want to retry it but now the playstore won't let me upgrade. Ehhh..
