Might be a stupid question... - Verizon Samsung Galaxy Note II

I recently got into gaming and had a little concern. I was wondering if there is an possibility of damaging the screen by playing games for prolong periods of time. Not the actual glass but bleeding effects or something similar. I notice that I sometimes get into the game and realize that I am pressing pretty hard on the screen.
To give you an example... I got into order and chaos and in that game you use the on screen directional to navigate. Last night I was playing for several hours and had my thumb pressed on the directional pretty much the entire time. After I got done playing I was worried about long term effects such as screen bleeding from pressing on the phone to hard.
Not sure if this is even possible with these types of screens but would feel a lot better is someone can confirm. Not worried about pressing so hard to break the glass but things like screen bleeding worries me.
Thanks in advance.

Are you talking about pushing hard on the screen and having that ripple effect?
Moderate pressure is OK, but I've never pushed down that hard on my screen. Most likely pushing down as hard as you are describing can either crack the screen or cause dead pixels.
If you are talking about playing games for an extended period of time, this could potentially cause burn-in.

I guess that is my concern... Burn in and dead pixels... Anyone have this happen? I'm not pushing to the point of potential cracking but harder than typical tapping on a touch screen. I guess I am thinking of tvs and monitors. If you press on the screens, you will get distortion and if done to hard or enough times, can effect the screen. Grated they aren't meant to be touched but I'm still worried about that type of issue. I personally have never heard of this happening on a phone but it doesn't mean it hasn't happened to others.
The main reason I was worried is because my wife's used razr had some dark spots on the screen and not sure how they got there. Not sure if this could have been caused by the previous owner pressing to hard on the screen.

Well pushing on the screen won't cause burn in. Leaving a static image for extended periods of time will. Even then these screens seem to take abuse pretty well. As for pushing on the screen how the heck are you pushing that hard? Yes you could damage it if you see the screen distorting from pressing on it. Was her razr an AMOLED screen? If so amoled screens are know for black splotches on the screen. So if you made the screen on showing black you can see them. My GSIII had two huge spots and my note II has one insanely tiny spot that is hardly noticeable. Well known issue.

Home button too bright?

There is a bright light coming from the home button on my Vibrant. Is this an issue? Does anyone else have this?

Don't know how I can be to tell you the truth... Okay example:
Dark screen and the capacitive buttons are lit, above the HOME button you see a little shine of light, it is coming from the capacitive button. This is my second Vibrant phone(last one the 3g radio wasn't working properly) and the last one also had this issue, I checked the one at the store and it also had this, but it could just be that the shipments that the store got were all faulty of sorts, do you have this issue as well?
Is this a serious problem for you?
No but I am rather curious

Picture? Description isn't making a lot of sense.
okay.... I cannot get a picture with a camera at all... but I can try and explain a little more...
You know how the soft keys have lights to light them up in darkness? Well one of the ones from the HOME soft key seems to be showing some sort of light during dark screens outside of the button. Navigate to a black screen, now look above the Home soft key, mines has a little illumination from the soft key itself, I am wondering if it is too bright or something? I only see it during dark black screens but I just want to know if this is an issue.
Oh, I get it .. The screen itself glows, above the Home key? I just tried, max brightness setting and a black screen - no glow on mine. Manufacturing defect of some sort or you have better eyes than me.
Tilt the device so that the head phone jack is facing you, look at the soft keys, if it isn't there I might return mines because it makes things a whole lot different when watching a video

i think he meant theres a backlight leak from the softkey buttons

Angling it like that.. Only a very narrow sliver of light, only visible at a very precise angle. Definitely nothing I would encounter through normal usage, including watching a video.
Just checked the wife's Vibrant, slightly bigger spot of light but still a pretty narrow angle. There's definitely some variation going on here, but neither of ours are visible from normal viewing angles. If yours is interfering with video watching, I'd say that's a defect.
Yeah most likely, I can see mines... I think I just might return it and get a G2 this is my second Vibrant and I really don't want to go through another one, hopefully I can get my money back. Thanks for your help

I have the same thing. It's not that bad, but I know it's there. Doesn't bother me much, but it's there.
I just checked mine as well and there is a very very small spot at a specific angle. It does not cast enough light onto the screen to be noticiable even in the darkest situation.
Curious what symptoms you had on your first Vibrant with 3G. My 3G is horrible. When I had a G1 a few months ago I had much better 3g. Now, even if I get a 3G signal, I either can't surf at all or it is slower than Edge. I have resorted to leaving my phone set to 2G only. I figured it was a problem either in my area or with the Vibrant In general. Your comment makes me wonder if maybe there could be something else at work.
As far as the light on your screen, I can only barely see that when looking from above as described, definitely not any other time. If this is your second phone, it may have been refurbished and not put together exactly correctly.
As far as mine, I think I'm going to go to the tmobile store and compare my 3G to the demo phone they have on display.

I do have huge light leak onto my screen from the buttons. It is most apparent coming from the home button. That one makes a streak straight up when the screen is black. Like a searclight... But, I don't notice it when the screen is drawn. Definitely a manufacturing issue, but not a serious one. I am also considering heading to the G2 when it comes out. Still miss my G1's keyboard even though I give Swype FULL PROPS for a great virtual kb.

light bleed for tbolt?

just wondering if anyone else is also tolerating the unfortunate light bleeding around the bottom half of their phone and above the soft keys. is this an issue with most of the thunderbolts or did i just get a defective model?
Can't really see what your talking about, is it like that for you all the time for you?
Sent from my ADR6400L using XDA App
I only see it when tilting the phone down at an awkward unusable angle. Don't see anything anytime i've been using the phone normally.
found this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=12954063&highlight=light+bleed#post12954063 .
My phone has that too, but it really never gets in the way unless like said you're looking at your phone from an already unusable angle.
It's a problem with most thunderbolts and many phones/tablets in general (even the jesuspad isnt immune).
As already mentioned, I dont ever see it unless im intentionally trying to look for it (at an angle).
Have same issue at an extreme angle.
Have same issue only a problem at night. Daytime I don't notice a thing.
Sent from my ADR6400L using XDA App
like stated in the link posted above, its from the illuminated capacitive buttons at the bottom and not the LCD panel itself.
On my first thunderbolt, i actually had the entire screen rotated by a few degrees and pretty bad bleed from the back lighting of the keys at the bottom. VW overnighted me a new phone and the new one still has the back light bleeding, but as others have said, only at extreme angles.
The screen isn't bleeding. It's just the lighting from the soft keys. I only notice it when I have the phone at a certain angle. No big deal.
This normally happens with any device that has backlight keys, soft or not. My Droid X did the same thing.
i work for verizon and every thunderbolt i've sold hasn't had nearly as much light bleeding as mine. it is a painful thing to sell models that surpass mine haha, getting a new one sent to me though, just hope it's not the same. blast this ocd

Physical Screen Issue

So I am using my phone at night and I noticed some light bleeding. Not the usual one everyone talks about but at the very bottom of the screen where the Home button is. I can see light being emitted across the base of the screen where it meets the surrounding.
When I press the screen in on that section it goes away. So upon closer inspection I can see that the screen is slightly raised at that section and I can press down on it and it will be level but slowly raise back up causing the light bleeding.
Great. Anyway I bought this phone second hand. Do you think HTC will honor the warranty if I send it in to fix the screen?

After reading this I noticed I have this too. Im not sending mine since it doesn't bother me at all but if yours is really bad you should send it back. I don't see why they wouldn't make a warranty exchange.
Try and snap a picture, it'd help a lot more people see what the problem looks like

its normal, i have it too, so does my dad's amaze, both new phones
Hmmmm seems like another common issue. Ill try to take some pics today to show everyone what I am talking about. It amazes me, no pun intended, that I switched back to HTC from Samsung for better build quality and so far I've had so many issues already compared to the Vibrant I had before this phone.

I have the same issue, doesn't bother me though.
Sent from my HTC Amaze 4G
I also have it, Atleast i think its a light bleed, ive also thought that maybe its the light from the display just reflecting off the lifted edges/bezle??? Doesnt bother me much either anymore.
Noticed this the first day I have got the Amaze. Went back to the store, check the demo model, another new one sealed in box does the same thing, we are SOL
If I have the light enabled on the soft keys, I can see it.
Since day 1 it has been there but now it's creeping up the sides...as if the glass might simply 'pop' out one day, that's something I can reinstall.
Another vote for "visible".
thats really weird. I have a telus amaze and no problems here :/ just the normal screen bleed because of the light of the buttons.
Pics with and without the soft keys enabled, taken with my wife's amaze...which is also showing separation.
Always thought it was just a part of the design.

I am trying to learn to appreciate it as a pretty glow during scroll menus in portrait LOL, that is what I thought it was at first HAHA!
I learned that most Amaze 4G has this issue, so I was like:
Waiting for someone's screen to just pop off now lol

The gap has quickly moved from the bottom, up the sides.
After yeas of consistent use my HD2 case was bowed in on the sides, probably from the "stress" of 5 beautiful children...that includes twins.
lol.
The Amaze cases don't seem vulberable to such forces of massive rage grip, so hopefully no pop.
Both phones were complimentary due to a tmobile blunder, so no insurance (ocd kept my HD2 pristine, these should be fine) I'll do the 3m tape thing I've read so much about on the Sensation forums.
Now THERE'S a poorly built phone...kripes.

but you're not forever alone, more of a trolololololol.
however it is your pretty glow, win/win!
Screen bleed is normal in the sense that it is common, but I for one do not consider it acceptable. It is not inevitable, and you can get a screen that doesn't have it.
I just tell myself that these screens are made super quickly and put in these phones super quickly, assembled by some in all likelihood poor underpaid worker.
I cut them some slack, although screen bleed absolutely bothers me. What I dislike is the lottery process. I would pay more for a screen that could guarantee no screen bleed.

Screen Ripple effect normal? Or Defective?

Okay,
This happens only on the bottom right of the screen, if I press down with a little bit of pressure you can see the LCD screen distort, This occurred on my 1st device (requested a replacement) the replacement does the same exact thing in the same exact area.
So is this just a overall defect with the device (Since it's present on more than 1 device I received) or something with just a bad batch?
To test:
Open up the browser, on a white screen landscape mode, just use some pressure with ur finger press on the screen and the lcd will distort/wave into blue-ish color. Do the same test around you will see that 1 side will always have this effect but the other 3 won't.
The old device this issue was far worse than the new one. Only other note to make.
No issue here

That's bad.. but it wont cause any issues if you don't press on the screen really hard
Well I'm exchanging the second device as well.
Will keep going round and round until one without a defect lands in my hand.
On my Galaxy note 2 no matter how hard I press nothing. DNA little pressure it begins, the 1st unit was very easy to cause the ripple effect, but the second unit was much harder maybe 3rd times the charm.
Well 3rd device does it as well so its an inherent trait of the product.
It sounds to me like the screen is set in tilted a little. A lot of HTC phones have this, I've noticed. Almost all the replacements I had on my rezound you can clearly see the screen set wrong from the light leakage on the bottom of the panel. Actually, I just pressed the bottom right* corner of my screen (the part that's higher) and it actually does the same thing but it's barely noticeable though on my rezound and only on darker colors.
Well the DNA is going back this is basically un acceptable to me. 3 units all of them do it, if you lightly press on the screen it will ripple.
The funny thing is I can feel the difference when you press down on the left side of the device it's much stronger than on the bottom right.
This is definitely not an issue on my phone. My One X had this issue. (coupled with the light bleed from bottom ). Looks like some DNAs are affected by same issue.
But its definitely not common thing. The second DNA I had ordered for a friend was received yesterday and both are perfect with no sign of any such screen ripple issue. Might be the case of bad batch at particular store.
No issue here on my phone. No offense, but it sounds like you are looking for a reason to switch phones. You either have extremely bad luck to get three defective phones, or you are trying too hard to find something wrong.
It happens to me when you press directly in the middle of the phone. Although it's not an issue for me, since the amount needed to press to see it would not be used on the phone on a regular day.
I'm going to try a diffrent source. Yes all the devices have this issue.
I'm going to post a video as well.
Mine does this as well, turns like a purplish color like if you pressed hard on an lcd tv. It hasnt bothered me at all and i love the phone but just wanted to say i have it too
All of the devices have this effect.
My HTC One X has this thingy but you have to press hard...which is not what's intended with a capacitive screen, the problem is that the more the phones are slim and the more screens are fragile, just touch the screen not press it
Not all devices have it but the dna def does have it.

I bought from irepairfast.com, you shouldn't

I bought a screen from this website, for a self repair because sprint no longer fixes cracked screens themselves. Well they claim to sell OEM parrs and i beg to differ. Right off the bat when i took the screen out of the package, i noticed when the screens were off the original screen was Alot more dark. But i didnt pay much attention. The install went smooth (other than me breaking the captive button backlights(my fault, and its no big deal) But when i powered it on, it has a tint to it similar to samsung devices, also it has Way less dark colors. (Im comparing to by brothers phone, who also has the evo lte) and if i press kinda hard and let off on the screen it makes a whiter white in between the 2 fingers i press with, and when i let off it makes a clicking noise. I think the one peice screen/digitizer has a very small gap inbetween them. So i dont even know if it is gorilla glass.
Edit: yeah. I was browsing my twitter about a week ago when the digitizer randomly cracked all the way across the screen and now alot of pixels are drying everywhere. But im getting the htc one now. Eitherway, they are garbage as a company
