So I really like my new dinc4g. However the black menu bar under some of my apps is super annoying. Without there being a root method available, is there any way to get rid of that??

ARGH!!! I like the 4 inch screen, perfect size. But when some of it gets wasted it totally sucks.
I read that HTC might be pushing out a fix. Any merit too that??

Then tell the dev of the program to update the program to the new standards. That will get rid of it even with being on a stock rom.
What would they fix (unless, of course, they provide a hack like is supported here)? This is how Android deals with programs that do not use the correct programming standards for ICS and beyond.
Forward this to the developer of the application which has this issue.

I have a friend who works for HTC, he actually got me my Dinc, and he told me last night that HTC is hopefully pushing out an update within the next two weeks to address the black menu bar issue.

I know, tons of rumors on the forums. I've been getting phones from him for quite a while and he's usually pretty on point when it comes to release dates. He's pretty reliable. I got a Rezound from him with ICS right after the Rezound came out!!
I'll cling to that two weeks cause I can't stand these 3 friggin dots!!!
He didn't have any info on the dev site. That was the first thing I asked him!!

Yes, that should have much higher priority if you know someone at HTC

This is something built into ICS. I'm not sure what they would actually do about it. If they just take it out, then how do you access the menu on apps that still use menu?

Simple... apply the 3-button remap mod
I hope that HTC or Verizon does not push out an update within the next 2 weeks as that might delay or derail the current S-OFF efforts...
Just as bad would be if the update re-locks the bootloaders of those lucky few who were able to unlock via HTCDev...
I would LOVE to remap the "recent apps" capacitive button to Menu and go back to holding Home for recent apps. That black bar is seriously annoying!

Don't I need root to apply that mod?
You can still get temp root which would allow you to apply your mods. You would lose root upon rebooting the phone, but the mods will stick.

an OTA wouldn't delay S-OFF in anyway.
like i made the thread awhile go
DO NOT ACCEPT THE OTA IF! YOU WANT S_OFF,,,
I know this may look like a "first post" SEARCH kind of thread but I'm a long time lurker I am on a rooted ICS CleanROM 4.5 and after much diagnostics I've concluded there is a physical issue with the phone that is causing my prox sensor to fail. I have the typical symptoms most of you have with bad prox sensors- pull the phone away and it may come back on or you push power on and it immediately turns back off. What is the point of having a phone with simultaneous voice/data if you can't use your apps on calls?
I know many have had some success with blowing dust out but that's not the case here. When I push down on the upper right hand corner of my screen with Androsens fired up my prox sensor will start working perfectly. As i start using the screen the prox sensor will go dead again until I push hard on the upper right of the LCD. This appears to be a build flaw in these phones and I'm out of warranty and sick of it so I want to kill the feature.
Is there ANY way to completely disable the phone from turning the LCD off during calls? Good solution for those of us with this issue that are done dealing with the hardware with no resolution in sight. I know there was a property you could drop into the build prop on GB of "gsm.proximity.enable=false" but this doesn't have any effect in ICS. Thoughts?
Have this same problem it drives me up the wall. Not sure how to fix it.

Yeah I've seen a lot of thread with people ditching the rezound all together because of this one stupid issue... seems like something that can be management in the software
Well, if you are out of warranty, you could always open it up and clean it. I have to do it about every two months.

Not possible. Htc warranty is 1yr from original purchase date of phone. Phone came out last November
Sent from my ADR6425LVW using Tapatalk 2
This is beyond cleaning, the phone is immaculate and I already did that dance. And again, this is an asinine design flaw- I'm perfectly okay with (as I'm sure many of us would be) to just manually turn on and off the screen while on a call. There has to be a way to nuke this
Is this a general ICS issue or just certain ROMs?
If it's because anything official and didn't happen on GB, wouldn't it be able to be fixed with an OTA?
No this is sadly 100% a hardware issue being that the sensor will come back on when pressing down on the upper right of the screen. I've seen other posts where pushing on the screen has temporarily reengaged this as well. The "cleanings" that are being done I'm confident have nothing to do with the cleaning itself but of putting pressure in the right spots while cleaning.
Is this potentially something that could be addressed with the new open source projects coming out?
On Gingerbread, you could edit & add this to your build prop to disable the proximity sensor:
gsm.proximity.enable=false
Problem is, this doesn't work on ICS. I've read people Hex editing files in order to disable it while running ICS.

Haha and that 1000 was a repost I mentioned the GB fix in the original post and that's what's driving me nuts about this! There has to be a build prop toggle that I can use.
I think I've figured out how to disable the sensor. Seems to work for me on Venom Rom. If someone wants to test pm me.

If you pay for the $6.99 insurance you still have warranty. Its extended warranty that I believe is for as long as you own the phone and switches to any other phone you get as a replacement. I've gone from Thunderbolt-Bionic-Rezound-S3 all with same warranty. So as long as you pay for that you still have warranty and are all good if you don't pay for that then you still have warranty threw HTC till November.

I just received my DNA today and unfortunately it is running the 204 software.
My question should I leave it as is until a root method is acheived for the ota or won't it matter if I would take any other updates?
Thanks!
You posted in the wrong section.
To answer your question, you may have to wait quite a while to unlock your phone. Regarding accepting the update, if you're not having SIM card problems don't accept it.
I definitely recommend never ever accepting an update until an exploit method is posted.
A lot of people seem to update and then ask if they will be able to root, j recommend the opposite.
I work with steel, and when I'm doing markups for my fabricators on a crucial piece of steel I assume they may be slightly off with their cut. I can always take a little more off but if the length comes up short there's no way to add a little more without changing the steels structural properties.

I had to return my first HTC One for exchange because of dead pixels. I was working with a rep at AT&T and I had to restore my phone and my phone booted into TWRP right in front of him and I know he saw. I'm so glad those guys are clueless. Just thought i'd share, if you were worried that they wont accept it back if your unlocked the bootloader you have nothing to worry about. He had no idea that it was not the way it was suppose to work. He was more curious that I gave up the S4 for the HTC One.
Now I wouldnt recommend taking a chance so just restore before you go
Most reps don't have a clue.. But come to my store and let that happen I'll over look it because I'm all for having unlocked bootloader and s-off... It's the douche bags that try and lie to me about how there phones got bricked that don't like me

I return an iPhone 4S once that was jail broke with a theme on it because the headphone port was not working. Had I know he was going to actually look in the "About" section of the phone, I never would have left the theme on it. He didn't even care, we started talking about jail break stuff etc.. etc..
I've met quite a few people in my dealings as a AT&T corporate employee over the last 14 years that are far from clueless. I had a guy promoting rooting my Galaxy S2 for a multitude of reasons right in front of my buddy who happens to be my boss, and in charge of enterprise sales, right in the AT&T store.

yea the ones who know about jailbreaking and unlocking etcetc are cool about it hell i have had phones come back with MIUI on it and AOKP they didnt lie about it lol told me what was wrong i looked in to it handed them a new phone and with about my day .
whats funny is the "sneaky" ones lol attempting top tell me they have no idea how it happened IE a custom rom was flashed lol
I have actually been told by an AT&T support rep to root my phone and install a custom rom to help improve my phone. This was with an HTC Inspire back in the day but I just about died. A support rep, on the phone, told me the best way to fix my phone was to root it and install a custom rom. Still makes me chuckle.

Honestly, I don't think most of them even care. Like when I traded in my s3 for an s4 Paranoid Android was installed and he just did a factory reset and put the phone away before it could even boot back up. Same thing happened with my Atrix, GNex, and Skyrocket these past couple years at Best Buy.
I just sent my first One back to AT&T with TWRP on it. Keeping my fingers crossed they don't notice before I get my refund. I currently have $1400 tied up in these phones since I paid full price, so I really, really, REALLY hope they don't catch it. I did flash a stock ROM and unrooted it, and sent it back powered on with a full charge so hopefully they will just take a quick glance at it and refund me my $700. My new MacBook Pro that I plan to buy this weekend is riding on it :good:

I'm 99% positive that it wasn't enabled. I think it's disabled by default and I didn't turn it on. How would that affect it though? I don't think they are gonna go over it with a fine tooth comb, they are probably just gonna inspect it for physical damage and call it a day.
Or so I hope.

It was always enabled for me by default. When it is disabled on boot it will display red letters showing that it has been tampered. Either way you should be fine, unless the employees know about HTC they won't have a clue what that means.

Well my current one is still just stock rooted, and fastboot isn't enabled. I haven't touched it which is why I'm assuming it's disabled by default. I'm really not that nervous about it, even if they catch it and try to pull some grap, I am very good at arguing. I'll get my money back.

I wouldn't worry either but I have had 3 HTC Ones and every one of them had fastboot enabled on first boot. When you try to install recovery one of the steps are to disable it so maybe that is why it was disabled. If not they will give you the info because they will reimage anyways
That would definitely explain why I had to use adb to boot into recovery the first time after installing TWRP. Man I'm rusty lol.

Really? I tried to return my HTC One X a few weeks back due to a hardware issue with the handset speaker and they wouldn't take it because it was tampered. =/ The guy even asked his supervisor if they could take it because it wasn't bricked and was in perfect working condition with the exception of the handset speaker.
On the bright side I got the One because they wouldn't replace my One X. Lol. =]
As many if you know, the HTC hardware keys are not the most reliable. So my question is if the software keys found on devices like the nexus can be enabled on the HTC one by adjusting some data on the phone itself. I don't want to have to flash anything.
This may not be the first thread asking this. If there is a preexisting thread please just point me to it. I have see one though, so I will be surprised if there is.

Well, I know that you can mess around with the build.prop on an AOSP-based ROM like CM10.1 to get software keys. All you need is root and a build.prop editor. Adding the following line:
qemu.hw.mainkeys=0
Enables the softkeys. You'd have to devote a new line to it, unless you find the line sitting around in the first place.
Granted, doing so on previous versions of HTC Sense has never worked, but it might be worth a try with Sense 5. Still, you might want to follow standard procedure and make a backup of your build.prop before messing around with it. You can also make a backup of your ROM. There's nothing to flash in this instance unless something goes horribly, horribly wrong.
Now on the other hand, you could also take a look in the framework-res.apk. IIRC, the framework is different on HTC devices, but it might have changed. This method requires you to extract and decompile the apk and modify it, then push it back onto your phone. Since you don't want to flash anything, I suggest you ignore everything about the framework-res.apk and try the build.prop edit.
